My responses to reviews will show up at the beginning of the next chapter I update:

Ms. Dragon Reader- Thanks!

Mía's overall work schedule revolved around her shifts as a CNA. She had three 12 hour shifts a week at the hospital, and then she filled in the rest of the week working part time at the cafe. Some days felt like she never had a moment to slow down and take a breath, but she knew it was necessary to keep living in New York. Her parents always offered, insisted even, that she move back home. They wanted to help her so she didn't overwork herself so much. They wanted to provide her with the opportunity to save up for her to start medical school. Mía loved her family, she was so grateful to have their offers, but she always declined. She liked living in the city, it was always her desire after growing up in a smaller town halfway to Albany. But mostly she didn't want to be a burden on them. She knew her parents would have to tighten their budget to make room for her, and there was nothing Mía hated more than being an inconvenience or bother to others.

So Mía remained in Manhattan, struggling to pay for her small apartment and undergrad loans even with her two jobs. It wasn't always that financially difficult, she used to be able to work just the CNA job part time during undergrad and then full time for the year after. However, that financial stability was not from her own source of money, and she knew it was better to be on her own then be back in her previous situation. Even on the particularly long days, she was grateful to be on her own.

But just because she was grateful to be on her own didn't mean she wasn't lonely. That was yet another symptom of her previous situation. She lived alone, she walked to work alone, she rode the subway alone, she even worked at the cafe most shifts alone. She hadn't gone out with friends in years, she didn't really think she had friends to go out with anymore. She often thought about calling Nora, Julie or Monica, but she always got too nervous. Negative thoughts alway prevented her from reaching out. It's been too long. They'll still be upset. They're better off without you.

The only time she felt like she had at least friendly acquaintances was at the children's hospital. The staff there were kind, they seemed to like Mía a lot, but she was hesitant. She enjoyed the workplace friendships she built, but they were always just that: workplace friendships. They didn't extend past her shifts. She loved interacting with the children most of all. She forgot about any of her own worries when she was spending time with the kids on her floor.

So after so long of feeling alone in every aspect except her CNA job, it certainly surprised her when she began to develop some form of a friendship with the new regular customer at the cafe. He didn't drink coffee, it was always tea. He liked to sit outside to drink his tea, so their usual interactions started with just the times he ordered and waited for his drink. He remembered her name, although he still sometimes called her ma'am. He was nicer than any other customer she had. They had small moments of morning banter and it was a nice part of her week.

The first day Steve ever sat inside due to the rain became the start of the best month she had in a long time. They talked more each day, and although it was all very surface level, it was still nice to have someone to pass the time with. She was shocked at how comfortable she felt around him. He began to sit inside every day after that first rainy one. Mía began to actually enjoy her shifts at the cafe, as soon as Steve showed up at least.

It was after a month of their routine when Steve finally had the courage to extend their time past her shift.

"Mía, would you like to go for a walk later this week? In the park maybe?" He asked her as he held the door open for her and they walked out of the cafe when her shift ended on a Monday afternoon. The request shocked her. She had been wanting to spend more time with Steve, hoping a real friendship could happen between them, but she had a nagging feeling in the back of her mind that he didn't really want to spend anymore time with her. She knew it was ridiculous, he sat inside and spoke to her every day they were both there.

Before she could respond, he tried to elaborate more. "I just enjoy spending time with you here, and I know most of your family and friends live a few hours away. Don't feel like you have to say yes, I understand if-"

"Yeah, that would be really nice," she told him, cutting him off as kindly as possible. He didn't talk much about his own family or friends, so she had a feeling he might be just as lonely as she was. Or maybe he was just being nice though, taking pity on her own obvious loneliness. She found it a little hard to believe someone as kind and handsome as him was unpopular with other people. She shook the thought out of her head, she didn't want to assume too poorly of the situation. Whether he had other friends or not, he was being nice and wanted to spend more time with her. She would take that as a successful step in the right direction regardless. Her family did all live a few hours away, and while she had some old friends in the area, it had been forever since they spoke.

"Do you want my number? We can talk about it another time?" She asked him. He nodded quickly and she wrote her number down on an old spare receipt she had in her bag. "You can text me or call me whenever, and we can figure out a time. It'll be nice to get out of the apartment for something other than work," she smiled as she spoke. He returned the smile, glad to have made the step to forming a friendship with someone new.

It was a few days later when she received a call from Steve. She was glad she answered, usually she let unknown calls ring out, but she had a feeling it could have been him. He had mentioned before that he wasn't big on the technology, explaining his time in the military he didn't have a cell phone and had never been able to afford one before joining.

"Hello, this is Mía Canales," she said.

"Mía, hi! It's Steve," she heard him say and smiled.

"Steve, it's good to hear from you, I'll be sure to save your number in my phone," she said.

"Well I was thinking maybe over the weekend we could walk near the park by your job. The one a few blocks from the cafe?" He asked.

"That sounds great! I can meet you there around three in the afternoon," she offered.

"I'll be there," he said. They hung up and Mía smiled. She liked Steve, he was a kind person and very easy to talk to. The thought of spending more of her freetime with him made her hopeful that they could have a real friendship.

Steve took in a deep breath as he put his phone down on the table of his apartment after the call ended. It had been a few months since he woke up in 2011, about 66 years after he crashed in the ice. He had no friends left, the only one still alive was Peggy and he was much too nervous to reach out. SHIELD had given him an apartment in the city, a phone, a car and files on all his old friends. Other than that, he was mostly on his own to figure out the new world. He felt it was a little harsh of them to just throw him into the middle of Manhattan with no knowledge of the 21st century, but he was trying his best to adjust. He didn't sleep much, and the days were long when he spent most of them by himself.

He was glad to have found Mía. She was the only person he interacted with that seemed genuinely interested in getting to know him. Most people in the city kept to themselves, he was just another face they passed in their daily lives. Steve knew he had to make an effort to reach out to new people if he wanted to do better in this new world, but he just felt so out of place all the time. However, he felt more comfortable around Mía. He was nervous about making a fool of himself around her or accidentally revealing that he was actually over 90 years old and a super soldier, but he didn't feel as on edge as he did around other people. He hoped that getting to know her outside of her working at the cafe would be a good step in finding a friend.

Sorry this took me longer to update than I expected, I've had a tiring week. I hope you liked the new chapter though!
