In Las Vegas, NV.
A man with jean shorts, a sleeveless buttoned-up shirt, and a straw hat walked through the city making sure to cover as much of his face as he could with his hat. His name was Luffy or Monkey D. Luffy. Also one of the most wanted men in the world. Luffy didn't do anything wrong. He even saves people but the government seems to want to take him in and use his powers for weapons.
A police car drove by and took a quick look at the man. The policeman in the car pulled over feeling as if he recognized him from somewhere.
Luffy sighed as he knew what that meant and ran as the policeman got out of his car and chased the man down. While running Luffy flipped over garbage cans behind him to slow the officer down but it was only when he jumped over a car that he did anything to the officer's chase. Luffy then ran behind a dumpster and hid there until the officer left the area.
"*Sigh* Finally," Luffy said but then suddenly felt the ground rubbing. He looked back at the street to see a Devil Buster Unit driving through the streets. Luffy backed up and then ran away from it.
The Devil Buster Units were made specifically for people with powers like Luffy. Devil Fruit powers. Devil Fruits are fruits with special abilities. Abilities like... turning your body into an animal or an element. The government says it wants to cure the people that have been turned but even Luffy could tell they didn't. What they wanted was an army of these Devil Fruit users.
Turning people into weapons, Luffy just wanted to be free. To have people stand aside from him and help make him and everyone else free of the hunt for Devil Fruit users that's the only reason why he's out there.
To get someone to stand with him.
Inside one of the Devil Buster's
"Report, soldier," ordered General Akainu.
The lackey replied, "Local police reported that a man fitting the description was sighted. They pursued but lost him."
The general's eyes narrowed. "It's him. The Straw Hat is in Vegas. Radio Sabo at the Cube. Tell him to get a containment cell ready."
"Uh, General Akainu, sir," another soldier called. "Why would Monkey D. Luffy come here? He's stayed away from populated places for months now. He's stayed out of the country. Why come back now?"
Akainu shook his head. "Right now, I don't know, and I don't care. We can get all the answers we want when he's locked away."
With Luffy
Luffy walked into a public diner and looked around. It seemed like a normal place but there was one person here Luffy was looking for. A person with powers.
Luffy's eyes wandered around the diner searching for anyone that would come to mind. He sighed when he couldn't find them and sat next to a man in a white jacket. He had 2 cigars in his mouth and white slightly spiky hair.
"Hey buddy," Luffy called out to the guy. He barely gave his attention while he ate his soup but did give a slight nod. "You've seen a guy named Smoky in here?"
The guy's eye twitched a bit "The name is Smoker kid."
"Ohhhhh right, well have you seen him?" Luffy asked, as Smoker almost fell off his chain and on to the ground.
'What's wrong with this kid?!' Smoker asked himself "I'M Smoker!"
"Oh ok." Again Smoker almost fell off his chair because of the stupid kid's attics "Well then I got to ask you something... It's about the cube." Smoker's face darkened a bit
"What about it?"
"The cube is known as a supervillain prison, holding people with all kinds of Devil Fruit powers. You were there," Smoker ate a bit faster as Luffy continued "I'm asking what you know about the experiments, and if you would stand by me if we try to take them down. I'm afraid that they are trying to turn people with powers like ours into weapons and I'm sure they are close too."
Smoker ate one more spoon full of soup before the bowl was empty. Smoker then looked at the spoon "Funny," Smoker spoke out which made Luffy raise a brow at him questioning whether he would accept the offer or not "You never asked how I escaped."
Smoker started to spawn smoke from his arms and legs. He looked at his reflection in the spoon he held in his hand and saw his face had also been emitting smoke.
Smoker then threw down the spoon and grabbed Luffy with his hand and threw him out a window of the diner.
"Ahhh!" Luffy groaned in pain as he tried to stand. Smoker walked out of the diner and grabbed a metal pole and pulled it out of the ground. He then jammed it into Luffy's back making him hit the ground again
"I know who you are Straw Hat! And I have been looking to beat the crap out of you for a long time." Smoker then swung the pole into Luffy's hip and hit him into some rocks
Luffy stood up and glared at Smoker. Luffy then placed one hand on his leg and then his fist on the ground. His arm then sprung up like a spring and pink lines appeared around his body while smoke emanate from the pink spots
"Gear 2nd," Luffy spoke and shot his arm back and then shot it forward like a rocket. The attack connected with Smoker but then passed through him while some of his body opened up revealing it was made of smoke.
"Sorry kid nowhere to run." Smoker smirked as he charged at Luffy once again
"HB-1 to Command. Target is in sight. It's touching down in Monument Valley. We are en route."
Two beings flew through the air of Las Vagas Nevada desert, as the rubber man smashed his fist coated with what looked like metal into the other face, as the other used a metal pole and white smoke to bash against the other.
Smoker then surrounded the pole he held with the same metal substance Luffy had that coated his fist. It was Haki.
A spiritual power that everyone has, but has only been awakened by Devil Fruit users.
Both devil fruit users clashed their fists and hit the ground causing a big crater.
Smoker was the first to jump out of the crater and grabbed his fallen weapon. Luffy then was the next to jump out and smash his Haki coated hand against Smoker's face, Smoker was knocked back into dirt and rock and crashed into anything else that got in the way.
Smoker stood up with a smirk "They said you got soft. I didn't believe them, now I think I do." Smoker spoke and rushed at Luffy turning his body into smoke
Smoker then punched Luffy in the face and then quickly swung the metal pole coated in Haki and hit Luffy's stomach. Smoker then repeated the process of beating on Luffy with his Haki pole.
Smoker then smashed his fist into Luffy's face once more until he used the pole and hit Luffy right in the chin knocking Luffy on his back.
"Is that why you took us all the way out here because you wanted to make sure no one got hurt. Well let me educate you Straw Hat," Smoker then got ready to stab Luffy with the pole "Those people you're trying to save," Luffy then looked up at Smoker as he raised the pole above his head and began to hurl it down to strike Luffy "Think you're more of a monster than me!"
Luffy grabbed the metal pole and crushed it with his hand. Smoker barely had time to be shocked since he was punched in the face by Luffy. "Gomu Gomu no..." Luffy put his palm out as if he was aiming at Smoker "Jet Pistol!" Luffy launched his arm forward so quickly Smoker couldn't even keep track of it and was launched back into some boulders "Gomu Gomu no..." Luffy says as he launches both of his fists back extending them with his rubber limbs "Rocket!" Luffy says as he suddenly appears in front of Smoker. Smoker looked down briefly before he was struck in his stomach by the 2 extended fists.
Smoker was then launched back meters away before he was kicked in the face by Luffy. Luffy then extended his arm back and twisted it around giving it the appearance of spring.
"Gomu Gomu no..." Luffy said as he launched his fist forward while unspinning his arm "Rifle!" Luffy then punched Smoker in the chest sending him flying through the air and into a couple of dozen boulders
Luffy ran up next to him and looked at him to see he was surrounding himself with smoke. "You fool I can become smoke itself! You can't beat me!"
Smoker then ran toward Luffy while Luffy stood still, Luffy then in a slit moment launched a fist at Smoker.
Smoker looked at him to see another coming Smoker was just able to dodge it but just barely. Then one more, two more, three. The fists just seemed to multiple out of nowhere and suddenly Smoker was getting hit with dozens upon dozens of fists that smashed into his body.
"Gomu Gomu no... Jet Gatling!" Luffy kept up the onslaught but then suddenly stopped. Smoker looked up at him to see he stretching out his arm
"Wait, what are you doing?!" Smoker asked, Luffy's hand then started to burn and burn brightly. It burned so much it was set on fire and was launched forward
"Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk!" Luffy shouts out, the attack was just inches away from Smoker a strange beeping led their eyes to a missile headed right for them. An explosion rocked the entire area, launching both parties away. Luffy was relatively ok noting severe or life-threatening, but he felt abnormally weaker same with Smoker but he was knocked unconscious
Luffy looked towards the direction that the missile came from and a slight growl passed through his lips. Only one type of missile can really hurt 2 devil fruit users. Sea stone, that missile was coated with it.
"Akainu!" Luffy says
Inside the command center, Akainu ordered, "All devil buster units, open fire!"
Several artillery shells fired at Luffy, Luffy's eyes turned a slight color of red, as the shells launched at Luffy, Luffy himself tilted his head a bit dodging one of the shells that were about to hit. Luffy then did the same with several other shells
"Too slow." Luffy comments as the rest of the shells explode behind him. One of the drone choppers shot down at Luffy while he was airborne. Machine gun fire rained down on him, creating a small dust storm, but when the dust cleared everyone saw that the bullets didn't pierce Luffy's skin, instead it seemed to shoot his skin forward. Thanks to Luffy's rubber body, bullets don't affect him. The bullets suddenly then shot back and hit the drone's cannons destroying them.
Back inside the command vehicle, Akainu ordered, "Keep firing. Don't let him get away."
Suddenly, a strange voice comes over the speakers. "General Akainu, withdraw your men now."
"This is a secure channel! Who is this?"
Hundreds of meters in the air, a green-haired assassin responded. "You're superior. Now back off."
"Time to target: two minutes. We have eyes on the target." the pilot called over the loudspeaker.
Meanwhile, one of the soldiers in the ship readied a knife.
With Luffy
Luffy looked at the last devil buster left, he took a step towards it muttering "Akainu..."
Then a large ship casts a shadow over him, Luffy looks up to see the back of it start opening. "Who the hell are these guys?"
Luffy narrowed his eyes as he saw tiny black marbles fall on the ground around him. Luffy raised a brow looking down at them and then looked back up to see 2 people dropping in front of him.
One was a girl with green hair, another was a boy with blue hair. The girl had hazel eyes while the boy had blue. They both seemed to wear gray camo clothing. These 2 were Kaede Kayano and Nagisa Shiota.
"Boom." The blue-haired boy said. Luffy's eyes turned red again and looked to the ground to see the black marbles exploding the ground and himself. To the assassin's disappointment, they were completely unharmed.
Luffy glared at the two. "You bastards, what's your problem!" Luffy shouted out pissed
Kaede put her hands to the back of her neck and lifted her hair off of it, as she did so 2 green tentacles sprouted from the back of her neck. Nagisa took 2 knives and twirled them around his hand.
"Sorry, just part of the job," Nagisa states as he charges at Luffy. Luffy slung his arm back and got ready to hit the blue-haired assassin but right before the fist connected Nagisa dodged the fist in the last millisecond. Before Luffy could express his shock he was struck in the stomach with a green tentacle. He looked toward Kaede to see she was walking around them circling them.
Luffy grunted, usually he would have no problems dealing with these 2. Beside's the green tentacles they were normal assassins just trying to take him in. These weren't the first either so what was the problem now? The sea stone. In all of Luffy's hiding away or dodging the military. He wasn't hit by Sea stone the way he was today.
It was a direct hit.
Luffy felt his bones aching, feeling as if they were mush. His power felt more draining then it should have. He was slower, weaker. Even so he still wasn't giving up.
Luffy looked back at Nagisa and tried to hit him once more but Nagisa was able to dodge again. Luffy was now really pissed he looked towards Nagisa once more but he was nowhere to be found. Luffy's eyes lit up red and he ducked out of the way of Nagisa about to slice a part of his back.
Luffy looked back at him to see his figure. But it was like he was a shadow, his presence was almost completely gone, the only thing he could see was a silhouette.
Luffy tried to strike the silhouette but he was hit again by a green tentacle and then again and again. Luffy dodged out of the way of the last tentacle and smirked. But then he quickly had to dodge a knife coming at his face and then suddenly.
*Clap*
Nagisa clapped his hands in Luffy's face. Luffy felt something within his vibrate and then he couldn't move, he felt paralyzed.
In the agent's comms, Akainu exclaimed, "I told Mustang to stay out of this! I've been chasing Straw Hat Luffy since day one!"
"The chase is over, General," replied Kaede. She hit Luffy again with a green tentacle. "Sit back and let us do your job for you."
On the other line, Akainu growled. He turned to his subordinate. "Open fire on Straw Hat Luffy."
The soldier hesitated. "But, sir, they are SHIELD- they're right there."
The general glared at the defiance. "That's a direct order, soldier. They knew what they were getting into when they took the job. We need results now! Fire!"
The soldier reluctantly began the launch sequence.
Back on the battlefield, Kaede noticed the movements of the command vehicle. "No. Akainu, you are ordered to stand down! Do you hear me? Stand down!"
"That you for your service, but you're expendable," Akainu simply replied.
Luffy shook his head and looked around, he took notice of the worried looks on the assassins and then looked at the command vehicle. He growled, just like Akainu to fire at his own comrades.
Luffy ran forward towards the vehicle as a missile was launched "You bastard!" Luffy shouts as he takes the missile head-on resulting in an explosion of blue energy.
Luffy crashed and lodged into a nearby rock plateau.
Seeing the structure's instability, Nagisa shouted in concern to his friend that was piloting the ship. "Irina, move out of there now!"
His warning came too late as the plateau toppled over and damaged the ship's aerial stabilizers. Irina tried to regain control, but it came to no avail. "I'm comin' down!"
While clutching his head Luffy noticed that everyone had eyes on the ship. Luffy looked up towards it. He didn't hesitate, hell he probably didn't even consider another option, even though he had a clear chance to escape.
Nagisa and Kaede watched helplessly as their friend began crashing down. Irina closed her eyes and braced for impact, only it never came. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw 2 hands holding onto the front of the ship's nose. The whole ship flipped around for Irina to see Luffy had extended his arm out to catch the ship before it landed. The next thing she saw was the man drop from the rock wall and onto the ground.
Luffy closed his eyes to take a breath. Fighting Smoker, then some devil busters, than assassins and then having to catch a plain took a lot out of him. But before he could truly catch his breath his head was knocked with a green tentacle and he crashed into a boulder, knocking him out.
At the cube
Luffy was transported in on the SHIELD ship and was transported into the facility with shackles binding him. So was Smoker except he was in a cantonment pod.
Once Luffy was in a cell he was greeted by an old friend. Sabo. One of his long time friends, that after Luffy got his powers he was obsessed with finding a cure for him.
Sabo then stuck a syringe into Luffy's arm to take a sample of Luffy's blood. "You have to believe me, Luffy. With the resources I have here, I will find a cure for you."
"Sabo, don't." Luffy shook his head. "My powers are not some disease. And it's not like I hurt anyone, and if Akainu says I have then he's a liar! He can't be trusted!"
Sabo placed the blood sample in a metal case. He sighed. "I'm not going to give up, Luffy."
As he walked out of the room, Nagisa walked in. Seeing Luffy's current state, he raised a brow.
Luffy noticed his expression. "What?"
"Nothing." Nagisa placed both hands behind his back. "Luffy, you're supposed to be the bad guy, right? I mean, Shield, Military, you name it and they chased you. Hell, we aren't even the first assassins to take you on."
"And?"
"Why did you save that ship? You could've just escaped." Nagisa sounded unsure of himself. "I saw it. You had a way out, but you saved my crew instead. Why?"
Luffy raised a brow "Really, I could have escaped?" Luffy said, sounding confused. Nagisa sweatdropped. Luffy's face then was covered by his bangs "Either way it didn't matter. They needed some help, so I helped. What's so wrong with that?"
Nagisa narrowed his eyes, it sounded way too unbelievable with him to hear all the stories of this guy's untold destruction, but then again why would he lie.
He surely wasn't stupid enough to think he would let him out otherwise... right? Either way, he was unsure now about the man in front of him. He turned around and started to walk to the door.
"You're an assassin, right?"
Nagisa turned "Yeah- I work for SHIELD but yes."
"You should be asking the question of what SHIELD and the devil busters want me for, and want all the people here for. Open your eyes. Look around this place. Look at the men and women with powers here. Do you really think the Cube is a jail? And now they have samples of my blood. Do you think they want to cure me? Sabo does! They don't. They want to make more of me."
Nagisa wasn't sure how to respond. On one hand, this man was accusing the military of crimes against humanity. On the other hand, the evidence seemed to be pointing in that direction.
He nodded at Luffy before locking his cell.
As Nagisa left the cell he caught a bit of a glimpse of Kaede walking in the halls. Nagisa quickly made his presence completely disappear and decided to follow her.
He followed her all the way to the sample room and watched as she took out and admired the one labeled 'Luffy.'
Nagisa then went into the SHIELD ship and went on the computer. "Initiatevoice command, Username: Silent Snake, Password: Gender." Nagisa said as the computer's voice gave access granted "Bring up all communication and field reports about Kaede Kayano."
"Files are not located on the network."
"Well, then where are they?" Nagisa asked
"Kaede Kayano's own computer."
Nagisa raised a brow "Fine, connect to the remote computer."
"Password needed."
"Tentacle?"
"Access denied."
"Green?"
"Access denied."
"Whip?"
"Access denied."
"Forever flat?"
"Access denied."
Nagisa knew he was taking a long shot with that one but he had to make sure. Nagisa took a deep breath and then realized what it was.
"Pudding."
"Access granted."
Of course, it was that
"Play the most recent report."
The computer then showed a hologram of Kaede speaking to a Hydra agent. Nagisa gritted his teeth.
He then ran off before she took the sample of blood to Hydra.
Nagisa was able to track Kaede down and follow her to the meeting.
He shot the case holding the sample of blood which seemed to surprise them all.
"Why Kaede?! Why did you do it!?" Nagisa asked holding a gun towards her "We've been partners for years, so why!? Tell me the truth!" Nagisa said holding his finger right on the trigger
Kaede looked towards him "The real question is why did you do it. Was it the power, or money? After all, the blood can be worth millions to the right people but you know that."
"What are you talking about?" Nagisa asked, he then saw Kaede sprout 2 tentacles from her neck and knock out both Hydra agents. Nagisa was even more confused now until he felt a cool breeze down his spine. He looked up and saw the SHIELD ship hovering over all of them
"Nagisa is a double-agent for Hydra, take him down!" Kaede spoke on a communicator
"What?! I'm not the double-agent!" Nagisa shouted but to no avail as SHIELD agents came down and surrounded Nagisa
The agents then started to shoot at him. Nagisa dodged out of the way of the blast and shot the weapons they were holding. Nagisa then jumped over to one agent and punched him and took his jet back and used it to fly up.
The other agents followed him upwards but then were surprised when Nagisa took off his jet pack and threw it at them.
The jet pack hit 3 agents and they all went to the ground while the other 5 flew towards Nagisa. The blue-haired man then threw one of his knives at one of the agents making him dodge out of the way but bump into the agent next to him. Which caused the other agent to bump into the next sending those 3 down as well.
Nagisa then took out a gun and fired at the jetpacks and broke off part of the wings. Both agents lost their balance trying to regain control but failed and both of them went head first onto the ground.
Nagisa landed safely until he was hit in the back of the head with a green technical.
"Take him to the Vault. I'll deal with the Hydra agents." Kaede said as the agents complied
As soon as they left Kaede smirked and took back the blood sample
"It worked. Well have to arrange a new meetup, but as far as SHIELD is concerned I took down a double-agent. Hail Hydra." She spoke with a bit of a giggle in her voice.
