A/N: Aaaand, it's (at least) a two-shot! Enjoy~
The same heavy air of tension that had hung over the girls was still present, even after they had finally left Tori's bed to get dressed and go downstairs. Tori had made them some coffee and poured them each a cup before they sat at the Vega's dining room table to try to talk things out with Jade. They hadn't made much progress in their talk (Tori had tried on multiple occasions to start up a dialogue, but Jade had only given her one word responses to things and occasionally sipped her coffee).
Just as Tori was about to try again, Trina loudly announced her presence as she came down the stairs. She had been present when Jade had arrived the night before, while she and Tori had been watching a movie together. Their parents had gone out of town for the weekend, so the Vega sisters had been spending some time together. Trina had actually been the one to suggest that maybe Tori and Jade should go upstairs to talk (once Jade had calmed down from her initial emotions and settled down to try to watch the movie with them, Trina had noticed Jade slowly and subtly getting closer and closer to Tori until she was practically snuggling with her, to which she had made the suggestion so she could continue watching the movie).
Tori had given up trying to talk to Jade while Trina poured herself a cup of coffee, the awkward silence still hanging in the air before Trina came over to the table and looked between the girls.
"Well, Jade doesn't look as bad as she did when she showed up here last night, so it seems like you made her feel better," Trina commented happily, bringing her free hand up to ruffle Tori's hair. Jade watched with narrowed eyes as Trina ruffled Tori's hair, prepared for if Trina was about to try the same thing with her. Trina then looked to Jade.
"But maybe next time you could try to be a little quieter about it," she said with a smirk. "I do live right next door to Tori's room, after all..."
Jade's death glare caused Trina to drop her cheerful smile and quickly scamper away with her coffee cup, back upstairs to her room. After she was gone, Jade looked back to Tori, who was biting her bottom lip to try to keep from laughing.
"Oh, shut up."
Tori turned to Jade, still trying hard not to smile. "It is kinda funny that she heard—"
After she got the next death glare, Tori raised her free hand in a surrender gesture. "Fine."
She sighed and lifted her coffee cup to take another sip. "Jade...what do we do?"
When she looked up to meet Jade's eyes again, Tori was a bit surprised to see tears in them once again. It felt very much like the previous night, after Tori had thought she'd comforted Jade but then Jade had gotten emotional all over again.
"I loved Beck. He was my first boyfriend," Jade said. "But you showed me more attention and affection than he's shown me in months, and it made me feel..."
She trailed off, and Tori debated carefully about her next words.
"Jade...do you like girls? And were you just dating Beck to hide your real feelings?"
Jade scoffed, bringing a hand up to wipe the tears away quickly. "No. Projecting much?"
"No, because I've never dated guys to try to hide how I feel."
Instead of replying to that, Jade turned the question back around on Tori. "Well, do you like girls?"
The question made Tori's heart skip a beat. She felt like it was pretty safe to say she liked both girls and guys, but maybe not directly right out loud to Jade. "I...I don't know, either."
"Clearly you liked at least one girl last night, right?" Jade mumbled quickly, chasing her words with another sip of coffee. Tori nodded.
"Ah, there's the Jade I know and..." Tori bit her lip to resist finishing the saying properly. Saying 'love' just after what they had talked about felt a bit dangerous. Or exciting.
"What?" Jade asked, staring at Tori, and Tori steeled herself.
"Love." She quickly continued as Jade raised an eyebrow. "I love snarky Jade and am glad she's back because it means you're back to normal and not sad anymore."
She thought she saw a slight look of disappointment cross Jade's face, but if that had been the case, Jade quickly passed over the moment by raising her coffee cup.
"Snarky Jade's back," Jade said. "But you know that wasn't what I asked."
Tori sighed again. "Well, when you started snuggling against me last night while we watched the movie with Trina—"
Jade held her free hand up. "Stopping you right there, because I wasn't snuggling you. I was just leaning on you because your couch isn't very big and I didn't want Trina to fall off or something. There's a difference."
"Oh, you were just leaning on me, okay," Tori said with a scoff. "And the kissing right after that was just to keep your lips warm because it was cold out?"
"N-no," Jade said, backing down a bit and looking down into her coffee cup to avoid Tori's eyes. She swirled her cup around a bit, mixing the remaining liquid in her cup. "That was kissing."
Her words lingered in the air, but there were still things to discuss. Not dwelling on why Jade refused to say she was snuggling her but was fine with admitting she'd kissed her, Tori continued.
"Anyway, when you were just leaning on me and definitely not snuggling me, I kind of realized that I maybe...like you."
Jade waited a moment to reply, before her words came out in a quick mumble under her breath and barely audible. "Well, maybe I like you, too."
"What?" It was Tori's turn to ask the age old question. Jade looked up from her cup to lock eyes with her.
"I said, I guess you're not the worst girl I could have picked to find comfort in after dumping the guy I was dating to pretend I didn't like girls."
She looked back down into her cup once more, watching the coffee settle. "And the snuggling and kissing and oral weren't too bad either."
Tori nearly choked on the mouthful of coffee she'd taken at Jade's added statement, but managed to keep her cool, swallowing it without much of a problem.
"So, uh..."
The girls met eyes again.
"Would you maybe like to try to feel this out a bit more too, and..." Tori gestured vaguely, sloshing the remaining bit of coffee in her own mug. Jade fought the urge to smirk.
"Are you asking me out, Vega?"
Jade's words caused a swarm of butterflies to flutter in Tori's stomach, and she nodded quickly. Jade looked at Tori over her half full coffee cup, which she'd brought up to her mouth so she could take another sip. She hoped it did the job of shading her blushing cheeks well enough to be able to use the excuse of the steam being the cause of her blush if Tori called her out on it.
Because the thought of dating Tori Vega also gave Jade a case of the butterflies.
A/N: I'd like to thank everyone for the reviews (and inspiration) to continue this story. I'd honestly intended it to just be an ambiguous ended thing when I first wrote it, but I truly feel better to have given it some kind of resolution.
Would it be bad to admit that this finally got going because everything started coming after Trina's line came to me in the middle of the night due to my wonky sleeping schedule and overly active 2 am brain? I hope not, lol.
Thanks for reading! :)
