TEEN IN LOVE

Monday morning Donna was trying to forget about everything concerned to the disastrous evening of the party as she was getting dressed. She eventually convinced herself that it was nothing and that probably she had been the focus of the night just because she was new and nobody knows about her.

She went downstairs, ate some cereal quickly and opened the door to go out. When she opened the door, she was met by a person waiting outside. He was wearing some black jeans, a t-shirt and a simple coat.

"Oh, you" she said.

"Me" he smiled, "I realized we weren't exactly introduced to each other properly. I'm Harvey"

He stuck out his hand and she shook it, rolling her eyes. He caught her attention, a lot, but after the other night she learnt that no one in his group of friends is kind and respectful, so why should she trust him?

Donna looked at him one more time before passing him and continuing her way to the school.

"Hey, wait. Don't you have a name?" he called after her.

She eventually stopped and turned to look at him. He was smirking and, fuck, she was hipnotized by it.

"Donna" she said, smiling. "I'm Donna"

"Here" he extended his hand again, just this time he was offering her a coffee.

Donna cocked her head to the side and looked at him like she was analyzing him, "Look, I don't know why you're doing this but if this is because you want to apologize it's not necessary"

"I'm not here to apologize" he said quickly, and he saw her offended expression, "well, not just for that" he added.

She crossed her arms and stood still daring him to keep going.

"Look, Donna, I know we started with the wrong foot, but I was hoping maybe we could be friends"

"Friends?!"

"Yes"

"Why would you want to be my friend?" Donna asks.

"Because I like you" Harvey looks at her and she gulps, "I mean… not like like in that way… I mean… I just, I would like to get to know you better" he stummers.

Donna nodded slowly and shook her head, "Okay... I really don't know why you're here but no thank you"

"No to the coffee or no to me?"

"Both"

She turned around and smirked because she knew she left him speechless and she liked it. She kinda felt like their path will cross again sooner or later and she wasn't going to say no to it. She was intrigued by him but before she had to know if she could trust him.

After school Donna waited for Rachel to finish her lessons. Rachel ran after her the night of the party and consoled her and they kinda grew closer.

They agreed to meet for lunch and then go to the library to study. Donna usually goes home after class but since today was Monday and her mother had therapy from 3.30 to 6 and Donna's grandfather would take her, she had time to study with her new friend.

"Hey Donna, I'm sorry but seems like Mr Jonson didn't want to end that freaking lesson"

"Don't worry"

"You ready to go? I know this new little place not so far. I thought we could go and check it out and return to the library after eating"

"That's perfect for me"

They took a table by the window and immediately ordered two colas and two delicious sandwiches.

"So, you and Mike huh?" Donna asked and Rachel choked on her coke.

"Wh-what? No, no it's not like that between us"

"Really?" Donna quirked an eyebrow, "because the way you looked at each other at the party tells me a different thing"

Rachel blushed and looked down at her sandwich, "Last year, at the end of the semester, we kissed. But then, on vacation, he never called me and when we got back he couldn't even look at me"

"Maybe he is waiting for a sign"

"We kissed, what better sign is there?"

"I don't exactly know Mike but he gives me the impression of being a little shy, maybe he doesn't think you like him that way" Donna suggested.

"Maybe…. I don't know" Rachel shrugged and Donna didn't push more.

They finished their sandwiches and split the bill. They began to know each other and share memories and passions. They decided to go back and get on with the study. About halfway through the way to college, Donna could no longer hold her curiosity and the question came spontaneously.

"And, what exactly are Harvey and Scottie?"

Rachel looked at Donna and frowned in confusion but answered the question anyway, "Oh they hook up occasionally but they are not a thing. I think she likes him but I'm not sure that he likes her that much. I think that if he did, they'd be together by now"

Donna nodded and became thoughtful.

"Why'd you ask?" Rachel's voice brings her back to reality.

"Well, she seemed pretty protective and possessive the other night"

"Oh yeah, she gets jealous every time Harvey looks at another girl… and this brings me to another topic"

"Which is?" Donna asked curiously.

"Harvey" Rachel firmly said.

"What about him?"

"He was checking you out at the party"

"What? No he was not" Donna blushed and her mind went back to this morning, when he told her he didn't like her that way.

"Oh he was, that's why Scottie reacted that way"

"I'm sure he was not. I think he is smarter than to go behind me when he could easily have every girl in this campus"

"Yeah, he is kinda popular but strangely he doesn't go after many girls, many of them try but it seems like he never gives in to their flirt. Another thing that drives Scottie crazy by the way, she is always all over him but he doesn't seem to be interested"

"Oh" Donna didn't know how to react to that confession and luckily they were already in front of the library so the conversation ended as they entered and hit their books.

Donna and Rachel sat at a table one in front of the other. Both so deep inside of their studying that they didn't notice that an hour had already passed since they sat at the table.

"Jeez, I need a bottle of water, I'm going out, I'll be back in a few minutes" Rachel announced in a sigh and closing the too boring book she was reading.

Donna nodded but continued with her head buried down.

Donna was reading the first line of the new chapter of her book when she heard Harvey's voice whispering in her ear.

"You're always this serious Paulsen?" she shivered, his breath hitting her neck and the spot behind her ear.

She closed her eyes and her body tensed and she knew he was smirking.

"You again?"

"Yep" he half sat on the table and leaned forward to her face, enjoying how her gaze fell on his lips for just a millisecond.

She blushed and looked down. Just then she noticed he had two cups of coffee in his hands like he had that morning.

"Do you have some kind of deal with the coffee cart guy?"

"I don't know, maybe, would you like me to?" was he flirting with her now?

Confused, she was confused. She just rolled her eyes.

"If I take the coffee you promise you'll stay away from me?"

"Nope" he smiled and emphasized the 'p'.

Donna nodded her head, her gaze losing itself in the void in front of her and then focused on him again.

"So give me a good reason to take it" she smiled flirtatiously.

"Well, you wouldn't have to go out there when it's raining and get all wet just to buy a coffee you could have easily gotten from me right now"

"Ok, you convinced me" Donna took the coffee from his hands and gave him a small smile.

"Well, I have to go now" he said.

"You came the whole way here just to give me coffee?" she asked, couldn't help herself. He stood up from the table but instead of going away he leaned towards her again to whisper in her ear.

"Don't feel so important Paulsen, I have a study group in a minute" he smugly took some distance and turned to go away.

"Oh Harvey?" she called after him, "I take vanilla in my coffee. So you know for next time"

"Oh, I already gained a next time Paulsen?" he smirked and she blushed even more.

"If you play right your cards Specter" she winked and tried to regain the focus on her studying.

She went home that evening more confused than ever; first there was the party, they held gaze and it was intense, then this morning the 'I like you but not like like you' and then the library episode. He was most definitely flirting with her and she flirted back.

The day after, in class, Donna was drawing instead of listening. Her attention had diminished by the exchange of words she and Harvey had. She was drawing two people on a park bench and each was holding a cup of coffee in their hands.

"Miss Agard and Miss Scott, Miss Zane and Mister Ross, Miss Wheeler and Miss Pearson, Mister Specter and Miss Paulsen-"

Donna's attention returned to her teacher when he said her name but she didn't catch the name of her partner.

"You have to develop a detailed research on the economy of a country of your choice and you have to do it well because it will be worth half your final grade. So you have the whole semester to work on it. Do you have any questions?"

"Ehm yes, I didn't get the name of my partner" Donna raised her hand.

"Miss Paulsen you're paired with Mister Specter"

Donna turned around to see Harvey's smug grin and shook her head slightly.

"You've got to be freaking kidding me" she whispered.
