2 years later

"Moon Dragon Iron fist." a young voice called as pale lavender energy surrounded his hand and he threw a punch at a tree stump but the energy dissipated before his fist finished moving. "Ahh man I almost had it that time!" He said as he glanced back at his mom who was watching his training.

"You're close Shin, you just need to maintain your energy a little bit longer in your attacks. Why don't you rest for a bit before trying again." She said in a gentle tone as she smiled at her son. Shin pouted and opened his mouth to object but a stern look from his mother stopped that and he sat down on the grass.

'He had grown quite a bit in the last two years.' She thought as her son stared at the stump he had been using for target practice.

Shin had messy black hair that went down to the base of his neck. He was starting to form small muscles on his arms and legs but nothing significant. His stomach, while not tone, was not fat either. Though his best feature in her opinion were his bright emerald eyes that seemed to glow with excitement during their magic lessons.

Taukiyomi turned her gaze up to the sky, noticing the sun starting to set. 'I should get us something to eat soon.' She thought but before she could do anything else she felt a tiny pair of hands on one of her claws.

She looked down to see Shin's beautiful emerald eyes staring up at her. "Mommy? Can we stay up and watch the moon together?" He asked.

Tsukiyomi couldn't help smiling at the cute way her son asked. "Sure but once you start feeling tired it will be time for bed, you have more training tomorrow and I don't want you to be tired when you wake up." She answered with a smile, causing her son to jump up and down in excitement.

One of the traits Shin had gained as a Moon Dragon Slayer was enjoyment of watching the moon at night. 'No, maybe enjoying is too strong a word, but it is relaxing to the both of us.' She thought as she lowered her head down and gently nuzzled her son. "Now I need to go get food for us to eat tonight, I want you to stay in the cave while I am gone." She said in a gentle but commanding tone.

"Aww can't I come with you?" He asked as he tasted into her eyes.

Tsukiyomi smiled but shook her head. "No, my Little Moon, you are too young to hunt." She said much to his disappointment. "But maybe next year I will start to teach you how."

Shin's smile returned and he nodded in excitement before he ran back to the nearby cave she used as her den.

Once he was inside She spread her wings and took off into the air. Once she was high enough to lessen the sounds from her movement she began to scan the surrounding area with her eyes for any movement. Upon noticing some rustling bushes her eyes narrowed and she growled slightly. 'Let the hunt begin.' she thought as she took off after her prey.

Shin looked around the den as he waited for his mother to return. After a few seconds of that and getting bored and looked down at his hands and tried to focus his magic like before. A place lavender light surrounded his fist just like before as he focused on how it felt. "It feels warm and somewhat fuzzy." He said aloud, once he figured out how to describe the sensation he was feeling.

Upon notice the energy still surrounding his hands Shin did a quick fugitive glance around, confirming his mom was still out hunting before she turned to a small boulder near the side of the cave. He took a running start towards the rock and raised his fist like he was taught. "Moon Dragon Iron Fist!" He called out as he punched the boulder. As his hand hit the rock cracks started forming on its surface, soon it shattered and collapsed to the ground in front of him. The energy disappeared around his hand and he smiled and started jumping up and down in excitement.

"I did it! I did it!" He yelled happily.

"And what exactly is it that you did?" A stern voice asked behind him, causing him to stop his celebration and turn to face the angry Moon Dragon behind him, in one of her claws were two dead boar.

"O-oh hi Mom I was just waiting for you to come back." He said nervously as he backed a bit away from her. "How did the hunt go?"

"It went well. I found us dinner, but don't try to change the subject Shin." She said as she glanced over at the destroyed boulder. "That boulder was not like that this morning, did you do that?" She asked as she glanced back at her son he nodded slowly.

"Ya, I-I just wanted to get that spell down and I was practicing how to feel my magic like you told me when I realized what I needed to do so I punched the boulder and it broke." He explained.

His mother stared at him for a few moments in silence before finally speaking. "While I am proud of you for figuring out how to use the spell I am also disappointed." She said in a stern yet caring tone. "There is a reason I only let you practice magic when I am around, at your age using magic can be dangerous without supervision."

Shin blinked and tilted his head as he looked up at her. "What's supervision?" He asked.

Tsukiyomi smiled at his innocent question. "It means with someone watching or helping you, someone who knows more about what you are trying." She explained as she made her way further into the cave and set her catch down next to their makeshift fire pit. "Now it's late and I am sure you are hungry so let's eat before it gets too late to watch the moon." She said as she tore up one of the boars so Shin could have some to eat.

Shin nodded and followed her over to the pit and waited for her to finish work on the boar. Once she was done she set some of the cooked meat down in front of him as she ate the second boar.

The two ate in relative silence. By the time they were done eating the sun had set and the moon was raising into the night sky. Shin made his way over to the entrance of the cave and stared up at the sky happily.

Soon he hears footsteps behind him as his mother walked up to the entrance of the cave and laid down beside him.

"The moon is quite beautiful tonight." She said as the two of them stared up at the night sky, their bodies glowing slightly as the moonlight refilled their magic.

Shin nodded back at her but said nothing as he continued to enjoy the night sky.

"Despite my earlier anger, I am quite proud of you Shin." Tsukiyomi said as she watched him out of the corner of her eye. "I am only upset because I do not want you to hurt yourself."

Silence followed her statement and she turned her attention back to the Moon. A few moments passed and Tsukiyomi was about to speak when she felt something touch her side. She glanced down and found Shin had scooted over to her and was leaning into her side as he watched the moon.

"I'm sorry Mom, I just wanted to make you proud, I promise I won't do it again." He mumbled as he nuzzled into her scales, his exhaustion starting to show.

She lowered her head to her son and nuzzled him gently. "Go to sleep, my little moon, we have a lot to do tomorrow."

2 years later.

The next few years were busy for both Dragon and Slayer. After Shin finally got his first spell working Tsukiyomi had him practice it till he could do it every time without issue before she moved onto the next two spells: Moon Dragon Talon and Moon Dragon Wing Attack. When he turned four she started to take him with her on her hunts, showing him how to track down other animals silently and catch their prey. Shortly before he turned five she started him on one final spell.

"Moon Dragon's Roar." Shin called out as he took a deep breath and infused it with his magic. He then released it, only to release air. He pouted and gripped his hair in frustration. "What am I doing wrong!"

"Try holding the breath in longer so you can gather up more magic." A calm voice called out to him.

He turned around to look at his mom with an annoyed expression on his face. "But if I do that then I can't use it in a fight since it will take too long." He responded, his mother just shook her head.

"Don't worry about using it right now, focus on getting it right. Once you have that down then you can focus on the charge time." She explained in a gentle tone.

Shin stared at her for a moment before he nodded and turned back to the rock he had chosen as his target. He took another deep breath and held it much longer this time, letting the magic fill the air in his mouth before finally letting it out. Instead of just air a light lavender flame shoots out, blasting the rock much to Shin's surprise. Soon the flames vanished leaving a charred rock.

"Very good Shin, but it is far from perfect. With more practice I am sure you will have the power and timing down." She said as she watched her son collapse to the ground, panting from using so much magic. "I think we are done for today. Go rest in the den while I catch dinner." She walked over to him and gave him a gentle nuzzle.

He nodded and got to his feet before he slowly made his way back to the cave. "He must be tired if he does not feel like arguing with me." She said with a smile as she waited for his. To enter their den before taking off on her hunt. She returned a short while later with two animals and some fruit for Shin to eat. Dinner was quiet due to Shin's exhaustion and soon the two found themselves watching the evening sun set

Before long Shin closed his eyes as he snuggled into his mother's side. Tsukiyomi smiled as she looked at her son who had already fallen asleep. She then turned her head and looked out of the den and frowned as she stared at the evening sky. "It's time isn't it." She muttered as she gently picked up her son and stood up. "My little Moon, I am sorry for the pain you are about to face." She said as she cast a simple sleeping spell and moved out of the cave. She glanced back at their den and closed her eyes as she spread her wings, taking her son for one last flight.

She flew across the land, glancing at her son as she flew, her eyes filled with sadness as she quickly approached their destination. In front of her were five other dragons, five sleeping children were on the ground in front of each of them.

Tsukiyomi sighed and landed in the clearing next to her brethren and set her son down. "It is good to see you all again." She said in a sad tone as she glanced at the others.

"Sad though it is, this is the best option." the Sky Dragon Grandeeney said as she stared lovingly at a young blue haired girl in front of her.

"Yes but unfortunately we do not have much time left, we must perform the spell now." The fire Dragon King Igneel said as he looked around at the others before he turned to Tsukiyomi. "Don't worry, unlike us you are still complete, when you emerge you will be together again."

She nodded in response but remained silent as she stared at Shin. The dragons around her glowed brightly before vanishing into their respective slayers. Tsukiyomi stared at her son, a single tear ran down her cheek, "Goodbye my son."

Shin woke up with a gasps as he looked around and he quickly realized something was wrong. It was somewhat cloudy morning, that was normal but he was in a field in the woods and his cave was nowhere to be seen

"Mom?!" He called out, as he looked around the field frantically, he sniffed the air looking for her scent but he could not find it.

"Mom where are you?!" He yelled as he stood up, tears running down his cheeks. Only the wind and rustling of the leaves answered him. This left Shin with one thought as he broke down. His mother was gone and he was all alone.

I had started writing this shortly after I finished the first chapter so I decided to get this finished up before I moved onto my Naruto story, so do nto expect a update in a while unless I get hit with massive inspiration for the next chapter.
