A.N.
alright i hope everyone is liking this version of the story, last chapter the only real change was how Naruto ended up in Hogwarts. However this chapter will see the first real big reboot change to the story that will have a great effect on the rest the stories to come.
"hmm, difficult very difficult." Said a voice in Naruto's ear.
"Wwaahh!" With a cry of shock Naruto ripped the sorting hat from off the top of his head. He had not expected for it to start speaking to him. Unfortunately for the sorting hat it was accidentally tossed through an open window that happened to be behind Dumbledore's desk. Naruto looked on in horror as the magical item left the room.
". . . . . oh uh." Naruto said as with a sweat drop, his hand still outstretch from when he had thrown the hat.
"Not to worry Naruto, perhaps I should have given you a word of warning." Dumbledore chuckled lightly to himself as he pulled a long narrow gray stick with white ridges and strange symbols carved into it from within his robes.
"What's that?" Naruto asked a bit confused as to why Dumbledore had pulled out a stick.
"This is a wand, an essential tool for one wishes to perform magic. Now watch closely, Accio hat." Dumbledore said as he pointed his hand over his shoulder at the open window. Naruto waited on bated breath to seeing what would happen next. A few seconds later the hat he had thrown out the window by mistake flew back into the room and landed on top of the desk neatly
"That was amazing." said Naruto excitedly to Dumbledore as he looked from the hat to the wand. The blonde teen was practically bouncing in his seat with excitement.
"Accio, a very useful spell. One must concentrate on what they want, say the incantation and name the item. When done correctly the item will come to you.
"So will I be able to do magic like that once I get a wand?" Naruto asked.
"In time you will be able to but first must be sorted and then you will be one step closer to starting your magical education." Dumbledore said with a light twinkle in his eyes.
"Yeah no problem, let's do it." Naruto said eagerly as he took the hat place it back over his head
"oh, it's you again" this time the voice in the hats sounded very grumpy.
"Sorry about that, you know where I come from hat's don't talk back to you." Naruto tried to apologize to the hat.
"Muggles" the sorting hat muttered to itself groucholey.
"What's a muggle? Naruto asked the hat but it just ignored his question.
"let's just get on with it, as I was saying it is very difficult to place you young man. I see within you great potential I see that you have suffered a great deal brave no question about that but also ambitious, you crave approval and attention you yearn for it. A chance to prove yourself and stop all the doubters and naysayers yes, an interesting set of qualities you possess. Slytherin would help you in those ambitions." The sorting hat said as he looked through Naruto's mind.
"Can I go to a place where I can make friends. . . real friends." Naruto muttered to himself in a hopeful voice. Hoping that whatever house he was put into he would be welcomed.
"Then I have found the perfect house for you, Gryffindor!" The hat said this last word out loud. With the sorting out of the way Dumbledorethat took off the hat an placed it back on in it's proper place. Naruto looked over at Dumbledore who had a pleasant smile on his face.
"Dumbledore what is Gryffindor like?" Naruto ask wondering what his new house was going to be like.
"Ah Gryffindor my old house." Dumbledore said with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. "Nobility and courage these are the strengths of character that set your house apart from the other Hogwarts houses." At this explanation Naruto felt himself swell up with some pride that this was the reason he was placed in Gryffindor.
"What about Slytherin the hat said it would be good for me to?" Naruto asked now a bit curious about the other house. At his question Dumbledore took a moment to think before he answered.
"Slytherin house is home of the cunning and ambitious. You will also hear from the rest of the school some not so favorable opinions." Dumbledore said as he adjusted his glasses and let out a deep long sigh. " I'm sure you can understand people can sometimes hold many prejudiced off of things they just don't understand or wish to not take the time to."
"Yeah." Naruto said simply completely understanding what the aged headmaster was telling him. From his own experiences living in the hidden leaf village.
"You know of what I speak, It is no different in the Magical World people see Slytherin house and just assume the worst. Naruto what you must understand Slytherin is not bad, perhaps misunderstood yes. misguided as anyone can be, but not bad why the greatest wizard to have ever lived Merlin was a Slytherin. so try to keep that in mind the Slytherins may have a reputation of dark Wizardry, but it does not say anything less of the person." With Dumbledore's explanation finished the two sat there quietly for some time before the headmaster cleared his throat.
"Well then, you have been sorted into your house. Now I believe it's time for the next important step towards your magical education." Dumbledore said as he stood up and moved from around his desk.
"Awesome what's next?" Naruto asked excitedly as he moved to follow Dumbledore.
"It's time for us to take a trip to Diagon Alley" the headmaster simply said in a matter-o-fact tone.
"Die-on-aly?" Naruto asked wondered what kind of place had that kind of funny name.
"Diagon Alley, it is the name of the place we're Hogwarts students can purchase school supplies, robes, and books among a myriad of things" However at the word books Naruto was reminded of all the boring lectures he had to sit through during his time at the Ninja academy. Then the blonde was reminded of something.
"Wait Dumbledore these books their magic books right?" Naruto said realizing that Dumbledore was talking about getting him magic spell books." At the blond enthusiasm Dumbledore could it help but let out a small chuckle before nodding his head in confirmation.
"More importantly you will also be getting a wand as well." The idea of getting his own magic wand had Naruto bouncing in his seat excitedly.
"Well what are we waiting for let's go." Naruto saud as he watched Dumbledore walk around the room.
"I believe the best way to get there will be by using the Floo-network, but first we must get you in some appropriate attire." Dumbledore said and looking down at himself Naruto realized he was still in his hospital clothes. With a wave of his wand Dumbledore had transfigured what Naruto was wearing into dark Indigo wizards robes along with black boots.
"Thanks." Naruto said as he stood and began to inspect himself more closely. His new outfit was nice and fit him perfectly however it was strange to have his feet fully covered.
"Now the Floo-network is one of the special ways the Wizarding World has developed in order to travel certain distances." Dumbledore explained to him
"Thats amazing." Naruto said as he tried to think of what kind of magic spell would be able to do something like that.
"Well then young man if you would kindly step this way." Dumbledore motion for him to follow as he stepped near the large fireplace in the room. "Watch very carefully Naruto and remember you must speak clearly." He took a pinch of glittering powder out of a small ornate porcelain pot, that sat atop the marble mantle. Naruto watched as he stepped up to the fire and throw the powder into the flames. With a roar the red fire turned emerald green and rose higher then Dumbledore, who stepped right into it, shouted.
"Diagon Alley!" and vanished. Naruto looked on amazed and trying hard to bear in mind what Dumbledore had told him. He took a pinch of Floo powder and walked to the edge of the fire. Naruto took a deep breath, scattered the powder into the flames, and stepped forward; the fire felt like a warm breeze; he opened his mouth and called out "Diagon Alley!"
It felt as though he was being sucked down a giant drain. He seemed to be spinning very fast — the roaring in his ears was deafening — he tried to keep his eyes open but the whirl of green flames made him feel sick. Something hard knocked his elbow and he tucked it in tightly, still spinning and spinning. Now it felt as though cold hands were slapping his face — squinting through his eyes he saw a blurred stream of fireplaces and snatched glimpses of the rooms beyond. He fell, face forward, onto cold stone. Dizzy and bruised, covered in soot, he got gingerly to his feet.
"Welcome Naruto to the Leaky Cauldron." Dumbledore said as he helped the blonde teen to his feet. They were inside a tiny, grubby-looking pub. It was very dark and shabby. A few old women were sitting in a corner, drinking tiny glasses of sherry. One of them was smoking a long pipe. A little man in a top hat was talking to the old bartender, who was quite bald and looked like a toothless walnut. The low buzz of chatter stopped when he stood up from the ground everyone seemed to know Dumbledore; they waved and smiled at him.
"The usual, Professor Dumbledore Sir?" The bartender asked as he started reaching for a glass.
"I must decline your offer today Tom, I'm here Hogwarts business," said Dumbledore as he clapped a hand on Naruto's shoulder. At the looks he was receiving Naruto gave them a bright smile.
"Come along, Naruto." Dumbledore said leading them through the bar an into a small, walled courtyard at the back, where there was nothing but a trash can and a few weeds. Naruto stood around wondering if this was the right place they were supposed to be at as Dumbledore was closely looking at the stone wall.
"Three up . . . two across . . ." he muttered. "Right, stand back, Naruto." He tapped the wall three times with the point of his wand. The brick he had touched quivered, it wriggled, in the middle, a small hole appeared. It grew wider and wider a second later they were facing an archway large enough even for a giant man. The archway open on to a cobbled street that twisted and turned out of sight.
"This Naruto is Diagon Alley" said Dumbledore, He grinned at Naruto's amazement. They stepped through the archway. Naruto looked quickly over his shoulder and saw the archway shrink instantly back into solid wall. The sun shone brightly on a stack of cauldrons outside the nearest shop. Cauldrons — All Sizes, Copper, Brass, Pewter, Silver, Self-Stirring, Collapsible, said a sign hanging over them.
"You'll be needing one, but we will need to get you some money first." Dumbledore said. Naruto wished he had about nine more eyes. He turned his head in every direction as they walked up the street, trying to look at everything at once: the shops, the things outside them, the people doing their shopping. A low, soft hooting came from a dark shop with a sign saying Eeylops Owl Emporium — Tawny, Screech, Barn, Brown, and Snowy. Several boys of about Naruto's age had their noses pressed against a window with broomsticks in it.
"Look," Naruto heard one of them say, "the new Firebolt, it's been made the national quidditch teams broom." There were shops selling robes, shops selling telescopes and strange silver instruments Naruto had never seen before, windows stacked with barrels of bat spleens and eels' eyes, tottering piles of spell books, quills, and rolls of parchment, potion bottles, globes of the moon. There was so much that Naruto's head was spinning.
"Gringotts," said Dumbledore. They had reached a snowy white building that towered over the other little shops. Standing beside its burnished bronze doors, wearing a uniform of scarlet and gold, was.
"That Naruto, is a goblin," said Dumbledore quietly as they walked up the white stone steps toward him. The goblin was about a few feet shorter than Naruto. He had a swarthy, clever face, a pointed beard and, Naruto noticed, very long fingers and feet.
"Good day Mr Dumbledore." One of them said as they walked inside. A pair of goblins bowed them through the silver doors and they were in a vast marble hall. About a hundred more goblins were sitting on high stools behind a long counter, scribbling in large ledgers, weighing coins in brass scales, examining precious stones through eyeglasses. There were too many doors to count leading off the hall, and yet more goblins were showing people in and out of these. Dumbledore and Naruto made for the counter.
"Good Morning," said Dumbledore to one of the free goblins.
"Mr. Dumbledore, how may I assist you." The goblin asked as he put down the long quill he was writing with.
"Yes, I've come to withdraw from the Hogwarts Foster Funds." Dumbledore said as he pulled out a long-folded piece of paper and handed it over to the goblin. The goblin took the paper and unfolded it as he started to read it over.
"Very well, that seems to be in order. I will have someone pull that out for you. Griphook!" Griphook was yet another goblin. At this new goblin Griphook walked off to on of the many side doors in the hall. In the mean time they decided to wait for Griphook to return Dumbledore took Naruto over to a small sitting area to wait.
"Hey, Dumbledore how am I getting money for all my things anyway?" Naruto asked as he looked around at all the goblins in the bank who had small piles of gold, silver, and bronze coins in front of them.
"Well, the Hogwarts board of governors have established such a fund for this kind of situation." Dumbledore said as he started to explain how a yearly money allowance has been establish for any student's who have no means of providing for themselves. It wasn't long after Dumbledore's explanation that the goblin Griphook had come back out and had handed a small bag to the Hogwarts headmaster.
"Here you go, will that be all." Griphook asked
"Yes thank you. You have been most helpful." Dumbledore said as the goblin walked off.
" Here you go Naruto have a look." And taking the bag, Naruto opened it up wide and took a look inside at the wizard money.
"The gold ones are Galleons," Dumbledore explained. "Seventeen silver Sickles to a Galleon and twenty-nine bronze Knuts to a Sickle. Back outside in the sunlight in front of Gringotts. Naruto didn't know where to run first now that he had a bag full of money. He had never been allowed to shop wherever he wanted back in the hidden leaf village.
"I believe our first step should be your uniform," said Dumbledore, nodding toward Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. Naruto along with Dumbledore entered the little shop. As the approached the counter Naruto started feeling nervous. His whole body tensed which didn't go unnoticed by the Headmaster.
"Professor Dumbledore how may I help you today." The witch asked as she walked over to them. Madam Malkin was a squat, smiling witch dressed all in mauve.
"Good day my dear Mrs. Malkin, I have brought young Naruto Uzumaki here to be fitted for his Hogwarts robes." Dumbledore said good naturedly as he motions to the teen to follow the witch in to the back of the shop. Madam Malkin stood Naruto on a stool and slipped a long robe over his head and began to pin it to the right length.
"What Hogwarts house are you in dear." Madam Malkin asked as she started to work on the length of his robe sleeves.
"Gryffindor." Naruto said happily Madam Malkin gave him a small smile said
"I don't recall ever seeing you in my shop before and I would have remember such an adorable face." Madam Malkin spoke sweetly as she lightly pinched his cheek. At her words Naruto had becoming vary bashful this being the first time anyone had ever called him adorable.
"I-Im a new transfer student to Hogwarts." Naruto said his voice cracking a bit. And they continued to make small talk for a few more minutes.
"That's you done, my dear." And Naruto hopped down from the footstool. Paying for his robes Naruto and Dumbledore left Madam Malkin's shop and then they stopped at another shop to buy parchment and quills. To his amazement found a bottle of ink that changed color as you wrote. And another that said invisible but when Naruto took a closer look he saw that it was empty.
They bought Naruto's school books in a shop called Flourish and Blotts where the shelves were stacked to the ceiling with books as large as paving stones bound in leather; books the size of postage stamps in covers of silk; books full of peculiar symbols and a few books with nothing in them at all. Even Naruto, who never read anything, would have been wild to get his hands on some of these. Dumbledore almost had to drag Harry away from Curses and Countercurses (Bewitch Your Friends and Befuddle Your Enemies with the Latest Revenges: Hair Loss, Jelly-Legs, Tongue-Tying and Much, Much More) by Professor Vindictus Viridian.
After leaving the book shop they got a nice set of scales for weighing potion ingredients and a collapsible brass telescope. Then they visited the Apothecary, which was fascinating enough to make up for its horrible smell, a mixture of bad eggs and rotted cabbages. Barrels of slimy stuff stood on the floor; jars of herbs, dried roots, and bright powders lined the walls; bundles of feathers, strings of fangs, and snarled claws hung from the ceiling. While Dumbledore asked the man behind the counter for a supply of some basic potion ingredients for Naruto, Naruto himself examined silver unicorn horns at twenty-one Galleons each and minuscule, glittery-black beetle eyes (five Knuts a scoop).
"Naruto, I believe I forgot to tell you that Hogwarts students are permitted to have a pet." At this new piece of news from Dumbledore, Naruto became very excited at the thought of having his own pet. Having left the Apothecary they crossed the street to the Magical Menagerie. There wasn't much room inside. Every inch of wall was hidden by cages. It was smelly and very noisy because the occupants of these cages were all squeaking, squawking, jabbering, or hissing. The witch behind the counter was already advising a wizard on the care of double-ended newts, so Dumbledore and Naruto waited, examining the cages.
A pair of enormous purple toads sat gulping wetly and feasting on dead blowflies. A gigantic tortoise with a jewel-encrusted shell was glittering near the window. Poisonous orange snails were oozing slowly up the side of their glass tank, and a fat white rabbit kept changing into a silk top hat and back again with a loud popping noise. Then there were cats of every color, a noisy cage of ravens, a basket of funny custard-colored furballs that were humming loudly, and on the counter, a vast cage of sleek black rats that were playing some sort of skipping game using their long, bald tails. The double-ended newt wizard left, and Dumbledore and Naruto approached the counter.
"Hi, I'm here to pick out a pet." Naruto said excited as he looked around at all the different animals.
"Hogwarts, well right this way young man we have a nice selection of rats, cats, and toads available for you to select from. The witch, behind the counter said as she stepped around the counter and started to show Naruto around the small shop. Naruto quickly looked passed at the rats and was captivated by a strange orange toad with dark blue spots all over its back. However, the sudden sound of a loud squawk caught his attention. Moving past the toads and other things he found a large cage near the back of the shop.
Stepping closer Naruto came face to face with a large handsome midnight blue raven. It stood stoically a top it's perch it's head bobbing slightly from left to right as it observed him. What really took Naruto by surprise was the fact that this happened to be a three-eyed Raven. It was a bit unsettling the way it's three blood red eye bored into him unblinkingly.
AAAAAAHHHRRKKK!!
"Ah!" Naruto game a sudden cry of fright as the raven cry out loudly as it started beating its wings against the cage. As Naruto clutched at his chest trying to slow down his pounding heart the raven in the cage began to bounce up and down squeaking at him in amusement.
"Hey!" Naruto said indignantly as he walked back up to the cage. However the raven just turned its back to him it began to clean its wing. "Why you damn bird." Naruto said as he started to shack the cage inorder to get the birds attention. This how ever only caused the raven to start up it's loud cry's. Soon the shop witch and Dumbledore were witnessed to the teen and bird yelling at each other. Finally after a few minutes if this Naruto and the bird finally stopped fighting and where staring at each other.
"I'll take him." Naruto said with a big grin on his face as he looked back towards Dumbledore and the witch. Meanwhile The Raven just closed its eyes and turned its head giving a short squawk. Dumbledore payed the witch as Naruto opened the birds cage and let the bird fly onto his shoulder on his shoulder.
"He is quite a handsome creature Naruto, what will you Call her." Dumbledore asked as they left the shop. Naruto had to think about it before finally getting a foxy grin on his face.
"I'll call him Teme after my old teammate." Naruto said with a sad smile. It was a little funny how the bird reminded him a Sasuke. Then the blonde teen proceeded to stammer his thanks to Dumbledore for buying him his first real pet.
"Not to worry Naruto, I expect you've haven't had a lot of experience receiving gifts, now I believe it is time we head over to Mr. Ollivanders, a maker of some of the finest wands in the world." Dumbledore said. A magic wand, this was what Naruto had been really looking forward to. The last shop was narrow and shabby. Peeling gold letters over the door read Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 b.c. as they walked up Naruto saw a single wand lay on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window. Reaching the front of the shop Naruto took a deep breath before turning the handle.
A tinkling bell rang off somewhere in the depths of the shop as they stepped inside. Whatever Naruto had been expecting for a place that made magic wands this was not it. The shop was a tiny place empty except for a singles spindly chair which Dumbledore sat on to wait. Naruto felt strangely like he had just entered a very strict library he looked at the thousands of narrow boxes pilled neatly right up to the ceiling. For some reason Naruto got the feeling he was being watched. The very dust and silence in the shop seemed to tingle with some unseen magic.
"Good afternoon said a soft voice, which made Naruto and Teme both jump. Dumbledore however didn't seem to be affected by the sudden appearance of a voice. An old man was standing before them his pale eyes shining like moons through the gloom. Naruto was reminded a lot of Hinata.
"Hello" said Naruto awkwardly
"Albus Dumbledore this is an unexpected visit" Said Mr. Ollivander as he moved closer to Naruto who wished the old man would blink already, his silvery eyes were a bit creepy
"Girrken I've have bought Mr. Naruto Uzumaki here for his first wand." said Dumbledore. Mr. Ollivander had come so close that he and Naruto were almost nose to nose to the point that Naruto could see himself reflected in those misty eyes.
"First wand at his age?" Ollivander asked taking his eyes off the blond teen.
"A special circumstance." was all that Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eyes. Naruto was expecting Mr. Ollivander to ask questions about him, but was surprised when he went back to staring at him.
"Hmmm well now Mr. Uzumaki let me see, which is your wand arm?" asked Mr. Ollivander as he gave Naruto a piercing look as he pulled out a long tape measure with strange silver markings out of his pocket.
"Well I'm left handed" said Naruto hoping this would help. By this point Teme had flown off his shoulder to avoid the measuring tape and was now purged a top the shop doorbell.
"Hold out your arm that's it." Mr. Ollivander then proceeded to measure from his shoulder to finger, then wrist to elbow, shoulder to floor, knee to armpit and around his head as he measured, he started to speak.
"Every Ollivander wand has a powerful magical substance, Mr. Uzumaki we use unicorn hair, phoenix tail feathers, and the heart strings of dragons. No two Ollivander wands are the same just as no two unicorns, phoenixes and dragons are quite the same and of course you will never get such good results with another wizards wand."
Naruto suddenly realized that the tape measure which was measuring the distance between each of his nostrils was doing it all on its own. Mr. Ollivander was flitting around the shelves taking down boxes.
"That will do" he said as the tape measure crumpled in to a heap on the floor. "Mr. Uzumaki beechwood and dragon heartstring nine inches nice and flexible just take it and give it a wave." the wand maker said, and Naruto took the wand and ready for something amazing to happen he whipped it high above his head and waves it around energetically but Mr. Ollivander snatched it out of his hand almost at once.
"Maple and phoenix feather seven inches quite whippy try." Naruto tried but he hardly raised the wand when it to was snatched back by Mr. Ollivander.
"No, no, here ebony and unicorn hair eight and a half inches springy go on, go on try it out" Mr. Ollivander said eagerly Naruto tried and tried he had no idea what the old man was waiting for. The pile of tried wands was mounting higher and higher on the shops counter it was almost to the top of the shop, but the more wands Naruto tried the more excited Mr. Ollivander became.
"Tricky customer eh? Not to worry well find the perfect match here somewhere." said Mr. Ollivander as they went back to trying wands. on and on they went to the point that Dumbledore had summoned two rather large and comfortable arm chairs for him and Naruto. Naruto himself had lost his excitement and was now beginning to wonder if he would ever get a wand.
"I wonder, but no not possible… then again why not deathly combination elder and thestral hair thirteen inches unpredictable." Mr. Ollivander said as he walked over the long narrow box sitting in the shops window display. The box had a thick layer of dust showing it had not been touched in many years. The one itself was rounded with its handle being somewhat ribbed with strange markings and it's color went from snowy White at its tip which gradually faded to Black at its base.
Naruto took the wand out of its box and at once he felt a burning heat travel up his arm. It felt like he was being pierced by invisible white-hot needles. Naruto wanted to drop the wand to end the pain, but something deep down told him not to give in. Knocking his chair back as he got to his feet, he raised the wand high above his head and brought it slashing down through the dusty air. A blast of brilliant blue and white fire shot from the end of the wand like fireworks throwing the shop in to a ghostly light, Dumbledore cheered and clapped as did Mr. Ollivander.
"Bravo. . . yes indeed, oh very good. . . well, well, well how unexpected. . .but the best things are one might suppose." Mr. Ollivander said as he put Naruto's wand back into its dusty old box and started to wrap it in brown paper on the counter.
"I remember every wand I ever made Mr. Uzumaki, but never in all my years did I think that particular wand would pick a master." Naruto was starting to feel uneasy about his new wand but quickly brushed the feeling aside because he was too excited about finally having his own magic wand.
"A word of caution, Mr. Uzumaki. Elder wands have a reputation of being deeply unlucky and trickier to master than any other wand. This wand in particular contains powerful magic core. It takes a remarkable wizard to keep an elder wand for any length of time, oh yes the wizard in question is marked out for a special destiny indeed." Mr. Ollivander said as he looked over at Dumbledore.
Naruto was determined to prove he was the master of this wand. He paid thirteen gold galleons for it and Mr. Ollivander bowed them out the shop. With Teme back on his shoulder Naruto and Dumbledore made their way back down Diagon Alley. As they walked Naruto noticed how people doing their shopping and running errands would look over at him and Dumbledore smile at him in a friendly manner. It was a bit strange for Naruto walking down a crowded Street and not have any dark looks thrown at him. By now the afternoon sun was hanging low in the sky as they made it back through the wall that led to the Leaky cauldron and finally back to Hogwarts.
A.N.all right I hope you guys like chapter 2 with the biggest changes being Naruto's pet ;) and the house he has been sorted into. these changes have been made because I feel that having Naruto in Gryffindor House will have him become more included than he already was with the events of the books as well as change many of the dynamics of his relationships with different charactersalso I have not yet decided if the pairing will stay with the original Naruto/Luna or if it will be changed let me know in the reviews or PM with some suggestions.Thinking of maybe Hermione, Ginny, Cho, Bellatrix, Pansy, or Tonks
