"Good morning Dr. Shepherd" the nurses greeted him.
"Good morning" he smiled at them, the infamous McDreamy smile.
As he walked towards the patient's room with a chart in his hands
"Dr. Bailey" to his surprise
"Dr. Shepherd" she greets and shot the infamous nazi glare
Derek cleared his throat "ahem who's presenting?" As he smiled at the patient and Dr. Bailey
"Mr. James Thompson, 37, suffers from having a severe headache for one week, was admitted last night" as the intern finished his presentation. He looked at the interns and spotted a familiar blond girl from the bar last night
"Thank you, Dr."
"Karev" stated with arrogant and confidence reminds him of his best friend
"Ok Dr. Karev" then turn himself to the patient "Mr. Thompson we're gonna run some test first to find out what causing you that severe pain, after the result came I'm gonna give you an answer and what kind of procedure that we're going to do if needed. For now, let's rely on the morphine"
Derek walked out to the patient's room and so is Dr. Bailey and her interns. Derek turn around
"Dr. Bailey I need an intern" he uses his McDreamy smile
"Don't you dare use that McDreamy smile at me? It makes me puke" turn around to her interns "Grey you're with Dr. Shepherd" and walked away
"Dr. Grey"
"Dr. Shepherd"
Derek smirked because he knows what's she's thinking
"Run these labs and page me when you're done" and he walked away
Derek went up to the rooftop to think and reminisce the time he had with Addison. He knows Seattle is different from New York but that's the only thing that they connected, it's been 4 years and he still misses her. Her smile, her laugh, when she got angry, her kiss, her touch, just everything about her.
"Derek where are we going? Richard will be mad if he finds out we're not doing rounds" Addison said as they went towards the rooftop
"This will be quick, besides its outbreak"
Opening the door Addison was shocked because the view was breathtaking not as much at the empire state building but pretty damn close
"Addie"
Addison turned around and see that there are table for two she was touched by how sweet and perfect her boyfriend was
"You did this by yourself?"
"No, Mark helped"
A laugh from Addison makes Derek's heartbeat fast as he ran from a marathon but he kept it cool. Everything that Addison does from waiving her hair to perform a difficult case he admires at her.
"Wow. That's a surprise romantic gesture from Mark"
"Yeah" he smiled the real DEREK SMILE "so let's eat before our break is over"
She smiled "bon a petite"
They laugh and talked about patients, surgeries until their pagers went off and hurried down to their destination.
"You remembered that too"
"Yeah, it was fun. Thanks for your help there"
"No problem" Mark sited next to him "It's been 4 years, aren't you gonna try dating again?" a sigh from Derek "you know she wanted you to be happy"
"I know"
"I saw how you looked at Grey earlier"
Derek turned to his side to look at his friend
"It's not like how you looked at Addison but I know you're interested in her"
"Yeah, I guess so. She seems nice" Derek looked up the sky
"Asked her out then"
"Maybe" and their pagers went off
For a few weeks, Mark's suggestion to move on and a date was ignored by Derek, he doesn't have time to fall in love again. But he knew if Addison were there she's going to be mad at him for stopping his love life for her.
Addison was sitting in their living room while Derek lay his back on the couch his head was on her lap watching t.v, it was their day off. It rears that they both had the same day off, nothing fancy, they just wanted to spend their off day together.
"Derek"
"Hmmm" still looking at the t.v
"What would you do if I die first?" Derek looked at her with a questionable look
"Why are you asking me this? You are not going to leave me." and looked at the t.v, she laughed.
"Come on Der" with a sweet tone. She heard a loud groan and made her chuckled, he turned and looked at her once again.
"If you die first, I would never fall in love again. You're the love of my life, I'm yours and you are mine" cliché but that was what he felt. He received a kiss from her and smiled
"That sweet. But promise me that you'll never do that" with that Derek sit up and turned his side to her
"What?"
"Derek I want you to continue your life. Don't stop because I'm gone, you'll find someone who will love you and will not hurt you. And love her more than you love me" Derek just stared at her
"Are you leaving me?" evidenced of sadness and like he was going to cry. He cannot understand why she was talking like this. Is she dying or maybe she'll leave me with another man, a lot of things are going to his head right now because the love of his life just said him loving someone else
"Of course not" a chuckled can hear from her "we're all gonna die soon. So promise me that, you'll have a happy life okay" Derek just nodded
Every night when he comes home he looked at the albums with their memories, remembering the conversation that they had before it made him cry. He misses her so much that's why he lived in a trailer deep in the woods so that his feeling of missing her could lessen, there is no living room to looked at and remembered their time together, the big kitchen when they had so much fun cooking food and sometimes it was more than just foods, and the bedrooms that Addison personally decorated. Her classy, sophisticated interior designs. He bought the trailer to make a changer, to start to move on.
Derek didn't realize that he fell asleep crying and holding their photo album. He put back the album and start getting ready for himself, for 4 years this has been his life. Every morning he gets up wear whatever he can grab to his wardrobe, go to the hospital, perform surgery, rounds, sometimes he went out drinks with Mark, Burke, and when he got home he will pull the photo album and looked at it and cry till he falls to sleep.
Tiredness was evidenced at him when he got to the hospital but still, he can be McDreamy. After rounds, Derek felt someone behind him
"What do you want Mark"
"Geez grumpy, good morning to you too" Mark leaned his back at the nurse's station
"Don't you have patients?" finishing up filling his charts
"I just finished her" looking at his best friend with a smirk
"No you didn't" Mark just nod "disgusting" Derek looked away
"Perks of being single got to sleep with everyone"
"Yeah, and major percent of having a child with millions of woman and getting an STD"
"I'm not a moron teenager, I'm a doctor Derek"
"Well let's see where your degree takes us when one day there's 18 years old asking for you" Derek just laugh at him.
"Dr. Shepherd here are the labs" Grey handed him the results, Derek took it and analyzed it
Mark who's silently eying Meredith and Derek a smirk form on his face and Derek can feel it and knew that his best friend was up to something.
"Thank you, Dr. Grey, after lunch meet me at the patient's room and you'll explain the procedure" as Meredith starts walking away Mark called her
"Dr. Grey" she turns around
"Yes Dr. Sloan"
"Are you interested in having dinner with my best friend here?" put his hand on Derek's shoulder. Both Meredith and Derek is shocked, Derek push Mark a little, nervousness is evidence in Meredith
"You don't have to answer that Dr. Grey" Derek said
"Oh okay" and started to walk away. Death glare are shooting at Mark,
"Come on man, I know you are interested"
"Shut up"
"Just give it a try, Red would want you to be happy" as Mark started to walk away leaving him thinking whether he would ask Meredith for a date. There's nothing wrong with moving on right
The evening has come and Derek was in the lobby waiting for someone, when he spotted a group of interns he approached them. The interns were shocked by the sudden movement of their attending
"Dr. Grey may I speak with you for a moment" looking nervous, Meredith just nod
"We'll be at Joe's," George said and interns walking away but still glance at their friend and attending
"I'm sorry about earlier, about Mark. He can be a jackass"
"It's ok Dr. Shepherd" silence is filling their space till Meredith cleared her throat
"Ahem. So" Derek looked at her in the eye
"So"
"Are you going to ask me out or what?" Meredith said
Derek smiled "do you wanna go out with me?"
"Yes"
Both of them leave the hospital and went to Joe's
"50 bucks Meredith will walk in here together with McDreamy," Cristina said
"40 Meredith and Shepherd will have sex tonight" Alex bet
"40 I'm betting with Cristina," Izzie said
The three looked at George "I'm not betting" rolled eyes and groan are heard. They keep their eye at the entrance hoping Meredith and Derek came through that door. A few minutes later there they are talking and laughing
"Give me my money," both Izzie and Cristina said, they know betting on their friend's love life is brutal but it's fun, and as long as Meredith is happy their good.
