By the time Ginny went to her potions class, she was very sleepy. Finally the night of sleeplessness had caught up to her. She usually partnered up with Hermione because she was brilliant and Ginny needed to pass potions. She yawned as she took her seat next to Hermione and laid her head on the desk to take a quick nap. Hermione pulled her up.
"I'm so sleepy. Let me sleep." Ginny said.
"You can sleep after class." Hermione gave her a stern look and Ginny pouted.
To her dismay, they were given a surprise test. They were asked to whip up The Draught of the Living Dead. Ginny was glad Hermione was with her because she knew nothing. Again Ginny received a shock when they were told that they will not be working with their usual partners. Hermione got paired with Luna. Harry was paired with Neville, and Ron was paired with Blaise. He didn't look happy about it. Luna waved at Ginny, and Hermione gave her a sorry look.
"Ah, Miss Weasley, you can work with Mr. Malfoy."
Ginny caught the eye of Draco Malfoy who stood at the back of the class. His face betrayed no emotions. He was looking at her calmly. Ginny, on the other hand, didn't know what to feel. She had to work with Malfoy, her enemy. But he was the best in potions. At least she will get good grades. She walked to the back of the class and joined in. Her sleep disappeared and she was alert.
"So we've to make The Draught of the Living Death. You know how to, right?" Ginny asked.
Before Draco could say anything, they were given a time limit. They had to finish it within an hour. Ginny saw Hermione jump up from her seat and rush to the potions cabinet. Luna merely sat at her place and waited for Hermione. Draco got up and went to the potions cupboard to take out the ingredients.
"Crush these beans." Draco said.
Ginny got to work. Draco got to work himself. Ginny couldn't help but stare at him as he was stirring the cauldron. He was so relaxed but efficient, unlike Hermione who was looking rather jumpy. It didn't help that Luna was taking her time with things. Ginny felt sorry for her as Hermione snapped at her. It didn't matter because Luna didn't mind at all.
"Here, stir it." Draco brought her out of her trance. "Clockwise."
Ginny was nervous. Draco was looking over her shoulder. It was somehow worse than Snape scoffing at them. As she stirred once, Draco immediately pushed her aside. "No, slower, like this."
Ginny would have said something but she wanted a good grade so she let him continue. He mainly shouted at her whenever he needed something, but did most things himself. They were almost done. Draco was stirring the cauldron a couple of times.
"Hey Malfoy, why is Blaise looking at me like that?" Ginny asked. She had been noticing him looking at her again and again. Ron noticed this and looked swatted his arm to get his attention. But Blaise didn't budge.
"Oh him. I guess it was something in the lines of 'That Weasley's got amazing legs. When did she get so hot?'" Draco imitated his Italian accent.
Ginny looked down blushing. She wanted to look unfazed in front of Draco so she said, "I've got amazing legs."
"I never said you didn't."
Ginny looked at Draco shocked. Was that a compliment? Or was he flirting with her? That didn't feel like a compliment. Draco gave her a hint of his smirk and went on with his work. What the-
Their time was finally up, and Ginny and Draco's potion got the best marks. They made the best potion, and yes, Ginny knew Draco did most of the work but she beat Hermione Granger in potions, who was giving a death glare to everyone around her. Draco slipped out of the classroom quietly and Ginny knew she had to speak to Hermione and Luna about everything.
"The only reason you got more marks was because of Malfoy. I don't understand how he does so well. Does he cheat anyhow?" Hermione asked. She was still going on about that potions test.
"He is good at potions. Can we please focus on my problem?"
"He said you have nice legs?" Hermione asked. The three of them were sitting by the lake. Luna brought chocolates. This girl is a lifesaver, Ginny thought.
"He didn't actually say it. He was just implying it." Ginny said. "Do you think he was flirting with me?"
"I don't know. You are expert on boys." Hermione said.
"I know! But this is Draco Malfoy. He's not the kind of boy I have dealt with in the past."
"Do you want him flirting with you?" Luna asked. One could always trust her to ask difficult questions. Hermione grinned beside her looking at Ginny's face.
"I don't know. It could be… interesting?" Ginny found that she was not repelled by the idea of Malfoy flirting with her.
"Okay… Would you flirt back if he flirts with you?" Hermione asked.
Ginny's cheeks turned pink. This conversation had taken an unexpected turn. She wanted to know about Draco, but these girls were making it about her. I shouldn't have told them.
"Would you?" Luna asked.
"No." Ginny replied. "Of course not. I hate him."
"Wow." Luna giggled.
"She protests quite strongly." Hermione had the same smile on her face. Both of them started laughing loudly.
"You guys suck!" Ginny said as she walked back into the castle.
