Luna: Thanks for the feedback and support, everyone. I know the chapters seem a bit short so far but bare with me a little bit until I can get this plot going (and I'm sure it'll get a little more interesting). I've only really developed the characters while thinking of possible plots. Some of the ideas might seem a bit similar to the actual Warriors books and there might be characters who have similar names to canonical characters (such as if I accidentally named a character Jayfeather or something like that), it'd be purely coincidental, mainly because I've only really read the first/original series (The Prophecies Begins). Anyways, I hope you enjoy the update!
Disclaimer: The ladies behind the Erin Hunter name own the Warriors series. I only own the OCs contained in this original Warriors story and the ideas that were inspired by the canonical books. Any clan names or warrior names that sound like anyone else's fan made ideas or OCs or even similar to anything in the books is purely coincidental because it'd be impossible to scour all of the internet just to see if any characters or clans are too similar to any that I thought of.
Chapter 2
Her heart was beating fast, but hearing the familiar voice calling out her name eased her fears a little bit, but her body was still trembling with worry. Although she knew the territories of both StormClan and MeadowClan quite well, there was still the fear of being alone and out in the open, being so exposed. Every inch of her fur on her body was standing on end as she remained crouched as she ignored the mewling cries of the kit that was crawling under her belly fur.
"Lightningbriar?" came the familiar voice again.
This time, the queen gathered her warrior courage and called back in response, the name of another warrior escaping her mouth. "Paleleg?" She whispered, only loud enough for anyone within a close proximity to hear her. This time, his familiar scent greeted her nose and the scent glands at the top of her mouth, bringing back memories of him, memories of their secret trysts together. Nearly all the memories renewed the pain inside of her heart, mingling with the grief and pain she felt from losing two of her three kits.
Relief swelled within her, easing any doubts and fears she had as a blue mackerel tabby tom with long fur came out of the rustling grass. Just the sight of him made her want to pounce on him like a kit pouncing on its mother's tail.
"Paleleg, thank Starclan you're here." Lightningbriar meowed as she took a few pawsteps forwards and brushed her cheek against the blue tom's shoulder.
"I'll always come to your side, Lightingbriar." Paleleg meowed softly with a quiet purr as he returned his mate's affection. A faint mew caught his attention and he immediately spotted the small blue-cream kitten trying to get at Lightningbriar's belly. Pride and warmth bloomed in his chest at seeing the kit and he started purring. "Lightningbriar, is this…"
"Yes, this is our remaining kit." There was a sorrowful tone to the she-cat's response and Paleleg felt the same stabbing pain of sadness.
"What do you mean, remaining? There were others? What happened to them?" Worry flooded his mind, and with it came a flurry of questions. Lightningbriar bent down to Sleetkit, giving the kit a few tentative licks as she answered.
"There were three in total, but two were…" Every strand of her fur bristled and her muscles tensed, her heart beating fast in her chest. The she-cat didn't have to finish for Paleleg to guess what had happened.
"Lightnngbriar, I'm so sorry," The blue tabby tom meowed softly, unable to hide the sadness in his tone. He leaned into Lightninbriar's smaller body, resting his head against her's, lapping at the fur atop of her head gently to console her. When a few moments passed, Lightningbriar pulled away from him, still remaining just within reach, and she glanced down at their remaining kit.
"I need you to take Sleetkit and raise her in your clan." She looked into Paleleg's green eyes, her tail twitching softly, "You said Snowleaf and Addergaze lost one of their kits awhile back. Maybe they can take Sleetkit in."
His ears twitched in thought as he took a moment to think it over. He was thankful for the warm weather that was still lingering from Greenleaf, but it still wasn't good for a kit to be out at night, even if it was with its mother. Lightningbriar sat there, waiting for his answer while curling her tail around her kit. The small kitten had finally quieted down. The warmth of her fur was enough to comfort the kitten. A moment passed and Paleleg finally nodded.
"Alright, I'll take her, but I don't know if Snowleaf will take her, but someone in my clan will." Paleleg said with a soft meow. Lightningbriar meowed her thanks, butting her head against her mate's body before turning to her kit.
The kit mewed in response to the queen's loving licks.
"Goodbye, little one, perhaps I'll see you at a Gathering one day and hopefully not in battle." Lightningbriar murmured before sitting straight. After trading a few more words with her, Paleleg carefully and gently picked up Slatekit by the scruff of her neck. He then walked off with the kit, and Lightningbriar watched them disappear into the tall grass before looking up at the cluster of stars shining against the dark sky above.
Please watch over them, StarClan. She pleaded softly to the Silverpelt above. With another sigh, the she-cat rose to her paws and headed in the opposite direction, heading back to her Clan's Camp.
