Kikyo was used to men looking at her. But she was not used to liking it.

Rook Blonko was a warrior. He was strong and brave, and she respected his skill. But more than that, he seemed to adore her. It was...difficult to ignore.

She'd asked him out to quell the feelings, but it was only fanning the flames.

Kikyo sipped her drink thoughtfully.

"So I hear you have been assigned to Ben and I." Rook said.

"I was made aware." Kikyo said. "He's a rambunctious thing, isn't he?"

Rook laughed. "That is one way to describe him."

"How do you handle him so well?" Kikyo asked.

"He...grows on you." Rook said. "And do you feel that way about me?"

"No." Kikyo put down her drink. "You are not rambunctious. You are serious, careful, controlled. Like me. I find I am liking you more and more." She sighed. "It is a problem."

"Why is that a problem, Kikyo?" Rook leaned forward.

Kikyo looked in his eyes. "I've been burned before."

"I promise," Rook said. "I will never hurt you."

"It seems a relationship is unavoidable, Rook." Kikyo smiled and kissed him. "I just like you too much."

Rook was in shock.
