Chapter 1: Great Power
"I know your out there you wall crawling menace!" Says a man on a big screen calling out a certain hero. "It is the duty of every new yorker to report the actions of these masked miscreants, so listen up! As long as J. Jonah Jameson is CEO of Daily Bugle Communications-" In the middle of him talking, a certain someone shoots a web at the screen… "-I won't rest until New York has seen the last of Spider-Man!" Says Jameson after he finally finished.
"Does that guy ever shut up? Like seriously, stop talking. Let me shut up, I talk all the time." Spider-Man realizes. "Lots of other kids you probably know start their day with a glass of juice or something. But I have the biggest hater in the entire world bro, he just won't get off my back." Spider-Man says as he swings around the city. "Like, where's the love for ya boy Spidey? Every day I'm out here alone, just tryna make a good hero impression. Learnin' by yourself ain't that easy. And I'm pretty sure "super-heroing" ain't a high school elective." As Spidey keeps swinging, he finds a spot to land for a quick rest.
"Oh snap, I also gotta pick up a cake for my Aunt May before first period. Then I get to hang with my dawgs Harry and MJ, and I'm most definitely taking a nap in class." The web crawler says with a chuckle under his mask. He then sees a cop car about to crash. "I should probably go handle that before something bad happens." As the car starts sliding near the cake store, Spider-Man shoots a web behind it and saves the car. The cop comes out and looks at Spider-Man. "I'm starting to think Jameson's wrong about you Spidey." The cop says with a smile. "Preciate it chief."
As Spidey jumps down on the road, he sees someone walk out the broken down truck. "Hiya bug-brain. I knew that would draw you out." Says the boring-looking villain. "Ugh, not this clown again. His name's the Trapster. I've been Spider-Man for about a year and I've already beaten this punk so many times." Doodles of the Trapster's most terrible ideas come up and they all show the grade "F" on them. "Is it possible to get "F minus minus"? Spidey says with a humorous laugh. "Alright, time to beat this clown…again." The Trapster shoots Spider-Man with a sticky substance, but Spidey front flips over it and punches Trapster in the face.
"C'mon Trapster, I know even someone like you can do better than this." Spider-Man says with a yawn. Trapster gets angry and pushes two buttons which confuses our web-themed hero. Trapster throws them at Spidey, but he kicks them away, or he thought he did… Another one starts rolling towards him while he tries to jump away but, the substance had stuck him to a wall. "Okay.. that caught me off guard." Spidey tries to escape while Trapster is aiming at the Spider. He shoots at Spidey, but the hero already shot a web in his gun, which caused it to overload and explode. Spider-Man jumps down and walks up to Trapster as he is covered with his substance and can't move. "Aye man, you got a paper and pencil for me to write my Spidey note for the cops?"
Trapster's eyes widen as he sees something big approach the ground, but what is it… "Okay, he looks scared but my spidey-sense ain't tingling." The wall crawler said looking confused. Then he starts talking to you, the reader. "If you don't know what my spidey-sense is, I'll just explain it for you. Its basically just a warning that goes "ding ding" in my head whenever danger is happening, so I'm guessing my noggin isn't workin'." Spider-Man says as he knocks on his head three times. Then he turns around and sees a certain ship. "Alright bruh, now why is the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier coming in so low?" Spidey is still looking up in the air, when a certain spy comes behind him.
"Spider-Man." says the spy. "AHHH!" Spider-Man was startled after he seen who was behind him. He talks to the reader. "Nick Fury, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. That stands for "Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division", the super spies… don't ask how I know that." Spidey says after he finishes Nick Fury's introduction. "Boy what is wrong with you?! Don't you sneak up on a hard-working hero like that!" Spidey says with a little irritation. "Kid." Fury points over at the road as there is Trapster's sticky glue-like substance everywhere. "We gotta talk." The super spy says like he's going to interrogate Spider-Man. "What, I stopped the bad guy. What else is wrong?" Spidey says with confidence. "Nobody's saying you didn't stop the bad guy, but look around you. Is this the way Captain America would've done it?" Fury says. "Cap would've stopped Trapster in five seconds. You took three minutes. With lots of collateral damage."
Fury says with embarrassment in his voice. "I do a good job bro." Spidey says kind of aggravated with the spy. "For a clueless rookie." Fury says with a chuckle. "Woah okay, watch yourself now." The spider says with some humor. "Look, everyone starts out clueless. Even Iron-Man back when he was a novice." As Fury says that, an image of Iron-Man failing badly appears. "But he learned, eventually. What would you say if I could turn eventually into right now for Spider-Man?" Spidey starts with a chuckle as he starts talking. "So you want me to buy a line a self-help books? Not interested."
The web-head says as he is about to leave. "I'm serious, Khalil Spears." Spidey stops clearly surprised, and turns back around. "You know my name?" Then Fury says, "I know EVERYTHING. Super spy, remember?" Fury says acting a little cocky. Spidey starts talking to you again. "And now one serious part of my life. Growing up with my Auntie and Uncle Ben was a pretty typical childhood, until that radioactive spider bit me." Spidey says kind of angry remembering that. "My powers came, but then I lost my uncle that terrible night…" Spidey says this with a bit of emotion in his voice. "After that, I promised to do something good with these powers I was given."
Spidey says not finishing his origin story, then Fury starts talking. "With great power-" Spidey's eyes widen as he knew what he was gonna say. "-comes great responsibility. Good word from a good man." Fury says, then Spidey says, "I don't ever want someone like YOU to say those words!" Spideys says with a little anger, but then calms down. "But your not lyin'. He was the best, man." Then Fury starts talking. "It's been, what, a year now?" Spidey starts getting sadder. "It would've been unc's birthday today…"
"You've honored him doing what you do. Now I'm offering you the chance to do better. To really learn about responsibility." Fury says about to tell him the offer. "English please?" Spidey says not understanding what he meant. "I want to S.H.I.E.L.D. train you to be a better Spider-Man. The Ultimate Spider-Man." Fury says as Spider-Man waves the title away from him. "Question, how ultimate is ultimate?" Fury pulls out a gun when Spidey sees Trapster running away. Fury shoots his gun as it breaks off pole, hits the Trapster in the head and knocks him out. "That ultimate."
Spidey is amazed. "Ight' man I'll admit, that was pretty cool." His phone starts ringing, and sees one of his best friends MJ calling him. "I should probably set this ultimate phone to ultimate vibrate" Spidey says trying to be funny. "Your tech needs an upgrade, try ours." Fury hands him something. "S.H.I.E.L.D. tech guys developed this next gen web shooter." Fury says as Spidey look confused. "Web shooter? But my webs are organic." After Spidey says this, the super spy says, "We know…" Fury says grossed out. "When you shoot your webs through this web shooter, it will changes your webs in different ways."
Spidey turns to Nick Fury. "So I'm guessing electro webs and smoke webs and etcetera?" Nick Fury looks surprised but responded. "You are right spider, with your talent and my training, you could learn to be a better hero. The next Cap, the next Iron-Man. One of the Greats." Spider-Man then says, "I appreciate the offer, but I ain't supposed to talk to strangers." Spider-Man puts the web shooter away and starts to swing away. Nick doesn't look surprised and says, "Teenagers."
In a place very dark…
"Impressed, Mr. Osborn?" Says somebody over a voice-com as he shows images of Spider-Man. "Very, Octavius." Says the one investigating the Spider. "More than ever I'm convinced Spider-Man is the key to Military superiority." He says with a sinister look on his face. "Once I replicate his abilities, I'll mark an army of spider-enhanced super-soldiers to the highest bidder." Osborn says as he goes further into talking. "Nick Fury is a fool to think he can get Spider-Man to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. I prefer Spider-Man the way he is, headstrong, undisciplined, easy to anger." The voice on the other side starts talking. "And easier to turn. I'll inform our remaining allies to begin phase two."
Meanwhile at Midtown High…
An African-American kid with red jeans on sagging a tiny bit, with a white jacket on opens his locker. Then a certain girl walks up and starts talking to him. "Khalil, I've been calling you all morning. Where have you been?" The girl asked as Peter thinks of Fury in a presidential way, in his head, "I want you Khalil to be the Ultimate Spider-Man." Khalil stops thinking and gives an excuse. "Bus broke down?" He said with a smile. "Sure" says the red-haired girl. He starts talking to you again. "Man, I hate lyin' to MJ. No one's been a better friend than Mary Jane Watson ever since we were kids. Like when we ran away when we were five, except we just walked down the driveway.." Says Khalil clearly embarrassed.
"And when we was twelve, we was all like, "lEts GeT sEriOuS." That was a mistake." MJ starts talking to Khalil after and shows him a video of Jameson hating on Spider-Man. Khalil gets mad and says, "He needs to stop talking, like seriously, he is so annoying." Khalil says getting mad at Jameson. "Someday that guy will give this journalism student her first job." Khalil looks weirded out for a second. "Ew, you wanna work for Jameson, that's at the bottom of my list." MJ laughs at Khalil for a little then says, "Its not that bad Khalil. We gotta be realistic these days KJ." Mary Jane says as she looks at a certain someone on the hall. "We can't all be like Harry." As Harry comes through the hall, Khalil starts the introduction. "That's my dawg Harry Osborn. I really mess with that guy. Matter of fact, everyone loves him."
Khalil continues describing. "He's rich, girls think he's handsome. And he's been my number one homie when I really need him. Life at Midtown is pretty standard, but it can get wild at times." Khalil gets a vibrational sensation in his head as his rival comes down the hall. "Hey Khalil!" Says the guy trying to hurt him as he punches lockers down the hall. "Time for our rematch!" Khalil facepalms and starts another introduction. "That big punk trying to fight me is Flash Thompson. We've been enemies ever since elementary school. This time I'm just going to let him put me in a locker so he'll just leave me alone." Flash puts him in the locker and Khalil rolls his eyes. "That was easy. Later loser!" Flash slams the locker door, and after he leaves an old man opens it. "Hmph, so you let him win this time. I can't believe he thinks he actually won. Go on over to lunch now kid."
Khalil leaves the locker and heads to the cafeteria. When him and Harry are in the line, Harry starts a conversation. "You actually let him win this time? Can't believe he thought he actually beat you this time." The two friends go and sit down with MJ. "That might be the worst thing that I've ever done bruh." Khalil says with a laugh as he throws his food to the side, but then his spidey-sense goes off. "And there goes the spidey-sense I told you guys about." Khalil jumps over the table and brings Harry and MJ to the ground. "GET DOWN!" Khalil says as one of the school's walls explode. One of the villains showing up is levitating the principal and says, "Attention students, your principal has something to tell you." Then the principal says, "Students, your attention please. The school is now under the control of the… th-" One of the other villains interrupt and says, "The Frightful Four." Then Khalil starts laughing and says, "I only see three." Then he goes back to laughing while MJ and Harry facepalm.
Khalil starts talking to you. "Alright let me introduce these guys. The one with the purple gear is Wizard, Master of High-Tech Gadgets. The red outfit guy is Klaw. The villain made of living sound. And the lady who can't count is Thundra. Ruthless warrior woman from an alternate future timeline. Don't ask. And the Trapster, SIKE, I already caught that loser." The Wizard starts talking and says, "Before the Trapster was captured, we learned that Spider-Man attends this school, and unless he gives himself up, we'll tear this place down, brick by brick."
One of the students yell, "Yeah!" And then Wizard says, "We're serious!" The student covers his mouth while Klaw shoot a strong blast at the roof. All the kids start to run away. "So, who is our mysterious wall crawler?" Says the Wizard as he waits for an answer. "They seem reluctant to talk. Klaw, make them listen to reason." Klaw shoots a strong blast of sound which makes the kids scream in pain. "Aye you punk, stop doing that!" Khalil says with force. "Khalil don't get involved!" MJ says in terror. Wizard turns and looks at Khalil. "Hmph, definitely not Spider-Man." Khalil knows its good that he didn't know, but he was also kind of offended.
Thundra looks at Khalil and says, "I'll crush the runt." Wizard stops her and says, "Don't crush him, make an example of him." Klaw starts hitting him with strong sound, having Khalil scream in pain as he tries covering his ears. "AAGGGGGHHHHHHH!" Khalil managed to at least get on his knees and growls in anger, but couldn't do anything. "STOP IITTTTT!" MJ tries to help him, but gets stopped by Harry. Klaw stops and Khalil leans on a table. "Do you have anything else to say boy?" Wizard says with an evil chuckle. Khalil starts to laugh and says, "Yeah I do…. FOOD FIGHT!" Khalil throws a plate at Wizard and makes him hit the ground.
Everybody starts throwing food at the villains while Khalil tries to put on his suit. "Man, how did they even find me bruh?" Khalil lifts his arm to take off his his jacket and sees a tracking device under him left arm. He then remembers his fight with Trapster and how his glue got under his arm, that must've been how it got on him. "Man, I really do need to learn responsibility." Khalil says as he crushes the device with his fingers and pulls down his mask. As Klaw is about to shoot some kids, Spidey says, "Aye my boy, that thing might go off if you point it like that!" Spider-Man shoots a web at his sound arm and points it to his face so he shoots himself. "It must stink being you today, or everyday in fact. Wait, that might be me. I ain't wash this suit in a week." Spider-Man says as he jumps down at Thundra. "Hey little miss muffet!" Thundra turns around and catches a kick to the chest. "Spider-Man. Finally. Doctor Octavius, we found him. Transmitting now." Wizard says.
Octavius on the other side says, "Excellent. The Wizard has Spider-Man engaged in combat. The team will gain a detailed profile of his powers." Osborn then says, "Good." As he accepts what he said, Octavius then says, "There is a small matter of witnesses. Shall I have the Frightful Four destroy Midtown High?" Norman's eyes widen and says, "Midtown? No you fool, my son is there!" He says as he runs out his office. Spider-Man is still dodging the three villains when Klaw is about to shoot him with another sound blast. Spidey jumps up, webs his sound arm, lands on the ground and turns it towards Thundra, which pushes her to a wall. He then tries to throw Klaw at Wizard, but he blocks himself with several tables.
Wizard then throws all the tables at Spider-Man and Spidey says, "And now, to get the wizard!" He says this with a smile and starts to jump from table to table. He flips and webs one of the tables, dragging it at the Wizard and slams him into a wall. "I am such a goat bro." Spidey says in a cocky tone. Thundra comes up from the ground and looks angry at Spidey. "That's a nice look for you Thundy, too bad I gotta knock it off ya." Spider-Man says which makes Thundra angry. He jumps up and tries to web her but she grabs his webs while they still leave his body and pulls him down to the ground. "OW! This stuff IS coming out of me ya know!" Spidey says which grosses out some students.
Thundra starts running towards him but MJ pushes a plate under her and makes her fall. MJ pulls out her phone and says this with a smile, "Here's my first front page story." Klaw shoots at her and makes her drop her phone. Harry covers her and says, "Leave her alone!" Klaw then shoots harry and pushes him back. "AH!" Screamed Harry in pain. Spidey sees this and says, "DANG, don't do my dawg like that!" Klaw then says, "This school is filled with would be heroes." Spidey then web-slings over to Klaw and kicks him in the face. Thundra tries to punch Spidey from behind, but he catches her punch. "Will you dance with me?" He says humorously as he covers her with his webs and all the students cheer. But then Wizard puts gravity devices on their backs and makes them all float.
"Floating hostages. Spider-Man won't dare attack." Said the Wizard. Spider-Man pretends to throw webbed-up Thundra at Wizard, but he covers himself with the students, that was his first mistake. "You gotta be the stupidest person I ever met." Spidey says as he slides under him and webs him on the back, pulling him towards a pile of tables, and then kicks him through the doors. "Spider-Man! I'm your biggest fan, let me help bro!" Says the rival of Khalil Spears. "Alright, you can help buddy boy." Spider-Man opens a locker. "Step right in." Flash does what Spidey says. "Now what?" Flash asked clearly excited . "Wait for my signal. Jump out, and we'll surround them. Only come out on the signal." Spidey slams the locker door in his face.
Freeze Frame Starts
"I know that was immature, but I just had to clown this dude!" Said Spidey.
Freeze Frame Ends
Thundra breaks through the doors angrily. "Where is he?!" Said the future warrior. "We're not being paid to fight cops. Lets go." Said Wizard. Spidey is hiding in a vent as he sees them run away. When their gone, Khalil goes to check up on Harry. "Harry, it's MJ. Can you hear me?" All of the kids looked worried for Harry Osborn, then came along the father. "Mr. Osborn." Khalil as he looks up. Norman looks completely upset. "I'm sorry, man." Said Khalil sadly. "Why apologize, Khalil. What could you have possibly done?" After he says that, Khalil starts walking the halls by himself. "I should've done something, man." He then hears a knocking in one of the lockers. "Spider-Man? Hello? I'm ready. Spidey?" After hearing that, he smiles. "Alright, that's actually helping."
Meanwhile in the city…
"In a shocking betrayal of the justice system he claims to uphold, Spider-Man today led known super criminals in an attack on innocent school children. Believe me, ladies and gentlemen, it gives this humble commentator less pleasure—I imagine to say I told you so. It is the opinion of Daily Bugle Communications, that the police should issue a warrant for Spider-Man's arrest. And that nothing less than deadly force should be employed in the pursuit of Spider-Man." Said Jameson stating that he clearly hates Spider-Man. An old lady then changes the channel and sees her nephew come in. "Khalil…" The auntie said very happy that he isn't hurt. "Hey auntie." Khalil said. "Are you okay? I heard there was trouble at your school."
Freeze Frame Starts
"I know what most of y'all thinkin' right now. "This dude Spidey really lives at home with his doting old auntie. You really a goof." But think again, my auntie be workin' all day. Monday night's, she be at yoga, Tuesday be French cooking, which I think is pretty cool. And Thursday is bowling. That lady's full schedule lets me come and go as I please. I obviously gotta keep the Spidey thing on the down-low, cuz' ain't no way she would approve of me fighting super villains."
Freeze Frame Ends
"Those psychos ain't touch me auntie." In his head he says, "I wish I could say the same for my dawg Harry." 30 minutes earlier, Khalil is at the hospital visiting Harry. "There's still some ringing in my ears. But the doc says I'll be fine tomorrow." Harry says with a smile. "That's good. Can't have nothing bad happen to you, man." Khalil says relieved that he is fine. "Strangest thing, Khalil. Those villains seemed to believe Spider-Man goes to your school. Do you know anything about that?" Norman asked curiously. "He probably sits next to me in Spanish class." He says with a laugh, Harry starts laughing with him. Norman just chuckles and leaves the room.
Back to where we were, "You know what, if we had Norman Osborn's money, I'd put you in private school immediately." Aunt May said, finishing cutting carrots. "Yeah ok, when's dinner?" Khalil asked as he ate a carrot. "It's almost ready. Put the candles on the cake." Khalil's eyes widen as he realized he forgot the cake. He then covers his face with his arms on the table, making a "boom" noise. "You got distracted again, didn't you Khalil?" Aunt May said a little upset. "I'm so sorry uncle Ben…" Khalil said sounding like he was going to cry.
"Its okay Khalil, with all that happened at school toda-" Khalil starts to walk into his room, and closes the door behind him and sits on his bed. "How could I forget like that? I'm a terrible person.." He says as he holds a picture of uncle Ben. "Oh suck it up." He heard a voice and looked at his mirror, and saw himself in his Spider-Man suit. "You hurt everybody that's close to you bruh. Uncle Ben, Harry. And how you gonna be one of the greats if you can't even get a cake home? So here are your choices, you can either take up Fury's offer and take advantage of his training and tech, or just be known as a goofy hero who can't do nothin' right. What's your choice… Spider-Man? Do you wanna stay amazing or do you want the ultimate upgrade?" The mirror image goes away as Khalil picked his choice and appears outside.
"Alrighty then, S.H.I.E.L.D. You better bring a welcome mat, cuz' here comes Spidey!" Says the web-slinging superhero. "I can do better with Fury's help. I ain't doin' this loser routine anymore. I'm bout' to step up, and show the big boys what your boy Spidey can do!" As Spidey says this he shoots a web under the hellicarrier and sticks himself on the side. "INTRUDER ALERT! INTRUDER ALERT!" Guns rise up and start shooting at Spidey. "WOOAAHH CHIIILLLL! YOU WON'T GET A PRIZE IF YOU HIT ME BRUH SO JUST CALM DOWN!" As he says this, he webs himself up to the top of the hellicarrier.
Multiple more guns pop out and aim at Spidey, ready to shoot him, until… "So, you came." A certain spy said as he deactivates the guns. Spidey pulls off his mask. "Alright Nicky boy, I'm ready for whatever you got, ain't nothin' that's gonna stop me." He says in a cocky tone. "Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D. Spider-Man. Hope you survive the experience." Said Nick Fury which caught Spidey off guard for a second.
Spider-Man smiles of excitement. "Aw yeah, to be continued bro!"
