Rootspring thought that Bristlefrost was acting weird at the Gathering. Though, he didn't really think that much about it. There was another Rebel meeting. Rootspring went to the Old SkyClan camp.

"We need to know who the false Bramblestar is." Tigerstar meowed in the meeting. "Squirrelflight?" he asked.

"The false Bramblestar said that he came back for me… But I can't seem to remember who he might be…" she answered. Rootspring knew that the conversation was important, but he, for some reason, couldn't focus. His gaze met Bristlefrost. For a moment, their eyes met, but Bristlefrost turned her gaze away, blushing (can cats blush?). He settled his gaze on Bristlefrost, she seemed to pretend to be looking somewhere else, but Rootspring knew that she was looking at him too.

"I know who has taken over Bramblestar's body!" Now that got his attention. He gasped, he couldn't believe what he had just heard. "And," she continued. "If I'm right, it's even worse than we thought," she said. (Okay, from now on, I haven't read that part, so I may get the identity of the imposter wrong, I just did what 80% of the web says it probably is if you search 'Bramblestar's imposter'.)

"It is Ashfur!" she announced. The crowd looked confused. What in StarClan? He thought.

"What?!" Tigerstar yowled. "I thought Ashfur was an honorable warrior." he meowed.

"He tried to kill me, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf," Jayfeather growled like he usually- wait, scratch that like he always does. Rootspring had like, zero ideas on what to do, so he backed away.

"It describes everything! His lazy behavior, how he feels towards me, and everything! (Yeah, to me, I still don't understand, but I guess.)" Squirrelflight meowed. Rootspring saw Bristlefrost pad closer to him probably in an instinct, guessing from the way she was staring so intensely at Squirrelflight. For a moment, their fur brushed (like it does in 85% of warrior romance fanfictions), though they quickly backed away, he shouldn't be thinking about her now. Not the time, me! He told himself.

"So, should we still keep him prisoner?" Tigerstar asked.

"Yes!" Squirrelflight said as if it was obvious. And the rebel meeting ended.

. . .

Rootspring was chilling in the SkyClan camp until he was assigned to the ThunderClan border patrol (which is a cliché event in forbidden loves in different Clans in fanfictions).

When they were halfway through, they met a ThunderClan patrol. Bristlefrost was there. Rootspring's heart fluttered.

"Hi!" Bristlefrost greeted him. One of her cats, probably older than her, gave her a death glare and Bristlefrost stopped.

"Hi." Rootspring greeted back less enthusiastically. Bristlefrost looked a little crestfallen.

"Rootspring, don't be so friendly to a warrior of another Clan," Needleclaw told him with clenched teeth.

"Why? It's not like we're mates or anything." Rootspring meowed, but he himself hoped that would come true one day. He'd had a crush on the ThunderClan warrior ever since she saved him. Bristlefrost has confessed that she likes him too. Well, not exactly… She said 'Yes, I do have feelings for you.' which can also mean 'I hate you.' or 'I love you.' maybe even 'I think you are a very good friend.' Rootspring thought. He suddenly got nervous. The yellow tom noticed that Bristlefrost looked a little disappointed at his comment about not being mates or anything. But she hid it in a heartbeat.

"Well, we shouldn't be sticking our noses in SkyClan business! Right?" the pale gray she-cat asked the rest of her patrol. Rootspring was sure that he saw a few grumbling about how she still acts like deputy but obeyed anyway. So, the ThunderClan patrol left. The fact that he saw Bristlefrost lightened him up. Though, of course, he finished the border patrol before going to his nest and thinking about what she was doing now. He couldn't wait to meet her again.

Oh my g- I mean Oh my Dark Forest, I haven't updated in ages, I apologize if my style of writing suddenly changed mid-chapter because I started this and I literally forgot all about it so I came back in 3-4 months or something.
