Four earth-shattering cracks sounded off as the Ellis squad landed in a lightly forested area. Their titans scanned the surrounding area and found nothing but small animals fleeing into the forest because of their landing. The Titans stood and disengaged their landing shields bringing about their weapons as they got ready to move out. The pilots gazed at their surroundings with a minor sense of surprise for even in another dimension it looked like any other colony. The implications of that were astounding as from what their titans could tell this planet could sustain human life easily.
But when they looked in the night sky they had a true taste of wonder.
A shattered moon.
They knew it was like that from their briefing but seeing it in person set in a new wave of awe. If they still had their human eyes it would look even more beautiful.
"How the hell are those shards not falling. That moon shouldn't have enough mass to hold them there." Harold asked himself.
But his titan Charlemagne answered anyway "Cursory scans indicate the main mass of this planet's moon is producing a gravitational pull 1.59 times stronger than its estimated mass. It should also be noted that this planet's gravity is measured at .90 G's. I have a recommendation that jump kits should be adjusted to suit this difference and that investigation into the moon anomaly will be addressed when atmospheric flight units are produced or reinforcements arrive." She listed.
Jarod grunted in agreement and said, "You heard her we'll look at the moon later but right now we need to establish camp, Caeser you pickin' up any mineral deposits nearby?"
"Scanning... Complete, my electromagnetic sensors have detected several mineral deposits vital for the construction of MRVN units, please proceed to these coordinates." He ordered.
As they set off they took up a loose formation diligently checking their radars and thermals for possible threats, so far showing nothing but small animals that either stood stock still or fled from the metal behemoths. After around thirty minutes they found the points where deposits of oil, various metals, and sand could be found deep underground.
When they set down their emplacements they started to expand and extend and when they stopped various warning lights and klaxons started up as doors opened up. Various MRVN units were seen in each pod painted safety orange and fluorescent green. They carried various sets of mining equipment and started up as work in progress signs flashed on their torso screens. When they started mining the sounds of drilling sounded out through the forest as they began their work.
"Ooo Look at them go," Ellen cooed "Hey cap do think I could..."
Jarod butted in "No, last time you modified one of them we were chewed out by management due to 'Tampering with company property' so unless you're buying them... "
Ellen "Yeah yeah fiiine." She sighed.
They sat in silence for a minute listening to the sounds of mining
"Well..."Harold started "what now?"
"Poker night?" Terrance asked.
The poker game went for many rounds and ended with Harold several hundred credits richer and feeling smug with bragging rights. For the rest of the night, they sat and watched videos of the Apex games saved on Terrance's personal holoprojector before finally going to recharge their bodies and having their minds going through the pilot gauntlet and training for the changes in the planet's gravity.
Finally, morning arrived and the pilots were pleasantly surprised at the MRVN's progress. A square outer wall two kilometers long and 15 meters high made of reinforced steel dotted with automatic turret emplacements and autocannons sat at each corner of the walls. Within this compound was a large three-story-tall metallic grey building lined with solar panels on its roof labeled 'Main Production Facility'.
The original emplacements were now converted into elevator platforms that ferried MRVNs carrying containers filled with raw materials heading into the factory or MRVNs heading back into the mines.
New yellow construction MRVNS that trailed out of the factory were assembling a new building labeled 'Pilot Facility' that seemed to be a quarter way into completion.
"Pilot," CZ spoke up "scans indicate that this area will be depleted of terrestrial resources in 10.45 days it is recommended that new resource deposits should be located to keep up production."
"Alright alright but first we're calling command," Jarod confirmed and switched on his radio. "Command this is E-1 please respond."
The radio crackled for a second before he heard "This is General Williams we read you, report."
"Landing was successful and we can confirm that this planet is suitable for human life and that FOB 'First Establishment' is in phase two but we have made no further progress in our mission. Recommendations?"
"Previous data confirmed. We recommend you create a complete topographical survey of the continent you are currently on and mark potential colonization sites, resources, and points of interest." The General replied.
"Yes sir orders confirmed E-1 out." Jarod finished "Alright people were moving out, standard formation!"
"Road trip!" Terrance blurted.
So the Titans moved out of the northern gate of the compound with CZ in the lead, GL to the left, CM to the right, and AR in the back. They marched through the trees each footstep imprinting the soil taking in the sights around them vigilant for hostiles and it remained that way for about an hour till they heard something familiar.
Gunshots.
All the Titans halted and Ellie asked "Were those gunshots?"
"North by Northwest gunshots confirmed possible 9mm weapon" AR confirmed.
They also heard what sounded like explosions and the occasional roar of a monstrous creature.
"Orders Captain?" Harold asked.
Jarod spoke up "I just got done with command and they've given us the green light to make contact. We are now in active combat, a-firm?"
A chorus of 'a-firms' rang out and they advanced towards the gunfire.
Summer Rose was on the ropes.
Her Black hair with red tips was matted. Her silver eyes slightly bloodshot. Pale skin was covered in bruises and cuts. Her black corset and white undershirt had several tears and her black leggings were frayed in some places as her boots were covered in muck. Finally her white cape had several long slashes. Then her weapon ,a short bow that combined into two sabers was dull and chipped with little ammo left.
Her opponents on the other hand seemed fine.
One man wore an open white jacket with X shaped scars on his chest and tan pants. He had black hair braided to look like a scorpion tail with pale demented yellow eyes and sometimes what looked to be a scorpion tail that would randomly strike out from the small of his back. He wielded wrist-mounted submachine guns with blades on their sides held by chitinous braces completing his scorpion motif.
The other man was around 7 feet tall and only wore a frayed green tunic and brown cargo shorts. He had dark brown hair in a crew cut and similar brown eyes. Every now and again he would pull out syringes filled with Dust and inject himself. This would cause himself to glow with elemental power and increase his speed and strength leaving craters when if he missed.
Finally there was the impromptu arena.
Surrounding them was a horde of Grimm. They each had pitch black fur that seemed to absorb light and glowing blood red eyes. Some Grimm had extensive bone like plates and spikes on their bodies. They also took the forms of wolves, bears, boars, and raptors. The fact that she isn't being mauled to death right now meant that the these men were working for the Grimm Queen.
As the two men closed in for the kill she prepared for a last stand but suddenly they stopped and looked around confused she did to until she heard it.
CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK
Four pairs of heavy footsteps approached them through the forest as her eyes darted around looking for the source.
But then she saw them and she was damn sure they were supposed to be in Atlas.
Titans.
As Ellis squad parted through the trees they spotted of what looked to be a hoard of demonic looking wildlife surrounding what appeared to be some oddly dressed humans.
"Well shit cap I just won the bet." Ellen quipped.
Everyone else groaned in reminder while Jarod spoke up "We'll sort that out later but now we're doing pest control," he would have smirked at Ellen's timing if he was able to, "Everyone open fire!"
As CZ's predator cannon spun up and released a power shot that obliterated a good chunk of the Grimm. The beasts that survived charged at Ellis squad as he set the cannon to full auto the massive rounds shredded the creatures that were in its sights.
AR began to hover in the air and fired several low power rail gun shots which decimated packs of beowolves and left small valleys in the dirt. She then launched a tether that trapped several ursa in place as she launched cluster missiles that took out another large group. When her hover ran out she dropped down on top of a couple unlucky ursas.
GL unleashed waves of plasma as her splitter rifle blistered and charred the various Grimm plates and skin till they were burned to ashes from the intense heat. She launched several laser shots that cored or bisected the smaller Grimm and at least decapitated the larger ones. Her laser tripwire was deployed as a couple packs of beowolves got close enough and were then obliterated by the explosive force.
CM opened fire with her 40mm cannon that obliterated groups of creeps every shot. She then deployed a sonar pulse that locked on to every Grimm in its radius and unleashed her tracking rockets which launched any Grimm that weren't immediately dead on impact.
The three agents looked at the Titans in awe and slight fear until Summer shook it off and made a break for it. When the two men refocused on their target they noticed she was gone and cursed themselves and the massive mechs for the distraction. They decided to cut their losses and return to their leader to report the new weapons that could so easily cull a Grimm horde thousands strong.
"Well, it looks like they ran off" Jarod observed "Alright Ellis, were finishing this!"
A chorus of 'affirmatives' sounded off as the various Titan cores activated.
A laser core disintegrated anything it touched.
A smart core with seemingly infinite ammo let none escape as its bullets tracked any and all targets.
A salvo core and flight core let off innumerable rockets that flattened the land with high explosives.
Soon enough all that was left was four Titans in what looked like a burned out wasteland.
BT-7274 sat in silence staring at the General in front of him. His were limbs braced to the wall as his charred chassis was only moderately functional. He could also spy the two scientists assigned to studying him and his fellow Titans behind a viewing screen looking down upon him. Around him hooked up to various braces and analysis tools were other Titans of various chassis which were also caught in the fold weapons self destruction. They also stared at the General waiting to be released and returned to their factions or face self destruction. The General had coal black hair combed to the side, steel grey eyes, a clean shaven and wore a solid white uniform with red and navy blue accents narrowed his eyes he also wore a white glove on his right hand.
He let out a deep breath, "At 11:23 pm last night four objects were observed entering Remnants atmosphere in a manner similar to yours and soon after that you were reported to say 'Warning Incoming Titanfall'. I want you to tell me who they are and what they are doing here."
The General stared at the single blue optic hoping that they wouldn't just say-
"Access denied please report to Militia high command for further access privileges." BT dashed those hopes in an instant.
The General growled, his top computer scientists couldn't get anywhere close to just forcing any of the Titans to answer as they seemed to have the ability to fight back any attempts at hacking.
"So how can I get into contact with Militia high command?" The General asked.
"Release us." BT ordered.
The General growled once again "Bullshit!" He slammed the desk "Around a year ago now you all appear out of thin air as the most technologically advanced force on this whole planet and there is nothing to show of your existence and your only supposed allegiances are to groups that don't exist and now four more of you have appeared OUTSIDE THE ATMOSPHERE something literally impossible with the use of dust. Now you want me to release the biggest unknowns on the planet, fat chance."
The General stood up to leave and walked towards the door until he heard one word.
"Harmony."
When he turned around he saw every titan optic turned towards BT then back at the General.
The General sighed again and made his way to the intelligence wing.
