Now, in this chapter (I know it says "complete" but it the story is legitimately SCREAMING for this chapter) we're going to look at Calvin and Perry having the same conversation that Calvin and Della had.
Della and Perry were sitting in the office going over some last – minute notes the night before they were due in court the next morning. Calvin happened to walk in, as he picked up his niece from work everyday that he was in town, which didn't embarrass Della in the slightest. Her demeanor had changed for the better since he, his wife, and Della's cousins surprised her.
As Della was packing up,
"Do you love Della?" Calvin asked nonchalantly as Perry looked to him,
"She's a hardworking girl and I appreciate that." Calvin smiled softly,
"But do you love her?" Perry sighed,
"…I mean, she's kind to everyone we work with. She makes me smile when everything and nothing is going right. Gosh, it even hurts to breathe at times when she's close. She's the dictionary definition of a lady. There are nights where I only dream of her, especially the night after we met. Yes, I treat her like a gentleman. What are…" The same realization that hit Della like a freight train, hit Perry but it was a harder impact as he openly blushed in front of his secretary's Uncle who he had just met a few days before.
"…Are you trying to tell me that? Oh, no Mr. Street. I doubt Della feels the same way about me." Calvin was about to speak up,
"I'm ready, Uncle. See you tomorrow Perry." Della said as she smiled a sweet smile which Calvin looked back to Perry as he smiled a smile that was even sweeter back to her, which provided further evidence that Della and Perry were in love.
"Alright, kiddo. Let's go. 'Bye Mr. Mason." Perry only nodded his farewell to Calvin as he turned around thinking about what he and Calvin talked about,
Gosh darn it, Perry Mason. You're the biggest idiot to walk the face of the Earth. That smile she gave you wasn't any old smile she'd give to just anyone. That smile was for you and you only. I bet you $20 that the smile you gave wasn't just any smile you'd give to anyone, not even Paul your best friend, you love her, and she loves you.
Perry sighed an exasperated sigh as he packed up to head home as his gaze stopped at her desk as an idea struck as he picked up a piece of paper and a pen and wrote a note to let her know how he really feels about her and with a nod of satisfaction he headed home.
The following morning, Perry made sure to get to the office first so he could place the note on Della's desk. Once Della read the note she looked up and gave him a tender kiss as Calvin watched from the cracked door before he left with a gentle smile before heading back to his hotel.
I hope you all like it. (Yes, now the story is complete)
