Hi! I edited the first chapter so it should be all good now, but it deleted by note before the chapter, so I'll add it here.
This is my first story in a hot minute, so please be nice! :) It's a series of one shots surrounding Wanda and Natasha and their mother daughter relationship!
Prompts are welcomed and encouraged, so please drop them in the reviews, or send me a PM if you are so inclined!
Disclaimer: I own absolutely nothing.
Wanda woke the next morning to a knocking on her door. Opening her eyes, she found the sunlight bleeding through the curtains. The emotions and the exhaustion from the day before must have caught up with her to allow her to sleep through the night without waking up, a true rareness in her life.
"Wanda, you up?" a voice called through the door.
"Mm, yeah," Wanda mumbled.
The door opened, and Wanda found herself face to face with Natasha, who had crept into the room on her catlike feet. Wanda stared up at her from her spot under the plushy blankets, confused. Natasha wore much more casual clothes than Wanda expected, a pair of jeans tight on her legs and a loose black blouse tucked into the waist of the jeans. Wanda couldn't see, but she was sure Natasha had on expensive shoes on.
"Big day today, kid, time to get up," Natasha stood at the bottom of the bed for a moment, just watching Wanda.
When she made no move to get out from the covers, Natasha pulled them off of her so quickly that Wanda didn't even realize what she was doing until the blankets were on the floor and Wanda was assaulted by the cool morning air.
"What-?" Wanda stuttered.
"Come on, you can't live in my clothes forever, kid," Natasha threw another pile of clothes on the end of the bed and tapped Wanda's bare foot in a move to encourage her to get up.
When Wanda, although slowly, got up and moved to pick up the pile of clothes, Natasha smiled encouragingly and turned to head back out the door.
"I'll be in the kitchen when you're ready!" Natasha called over her shoulder as she closed the door.
Wanda hurried through a morning routine that she was still unfamiliar with. Changing into the too big clothes that Natasha and lent her, a pair of black leggings not very different than the ones she had on earlier, a black long sleeve shirt and a pair of colourful running sneakers, she then dug around until she found the bin that Natasha had placed the towel in the night previously, and then moved to the bathroom. Brushing her teeth with the brand-new toothbrush and toothpaste that had been sitting in the bathroom, and then, when she couldn't find a hairbrush, she threw her hair up in a ponytail, still trying to avoid the mirror longer than necessary. She didn't have any makeup sitting in the bathroom, and while she wasn't sure how old Natasha thought she was, but she knew that without her thick eyeliner, she looked younger, much closer to her age than she was trying to go for.
When she felt that she was presentable enough to be around the other Avengers, who she was trying to make a good impression on, she headed out of the bathroom and into the hall, where she was surprised to find Natasha waiting outside of her door.
Wanda started, shocked by the sudden sight of another person when she wasn't expecting them.
"Sorry, figured you might need a hand figuring out where the kitchen was," Natasha smiled, walking along side Wanda toward the elevator.
"Oh, thanks."
When they got out of the elevator onto the same floor they had been on last night for dinner, Natasha then turned another corner, Wanda trailing behind her silently. They arrived in a large, modern looking kitchen. The cabinets and counters were different shades of grey, and the appliances all complimented the colour scheme as chrome accents. Everything screamed modern rich male.
"Yeah, the communal areas are pretty dull as far as décor, it's pretty hard to agree on something when there are this many personalities around. But we can do your room however you like, don't worry," Natasha commented, rummaging through the cupboards and fridge to gather something for breakfast. She must have noticed Wanda looking around at everything.
Wanda was silent, standing in the doorway awkwardly, watching Natasha dig around through the kitchen, pulling out a blender and a bunch of fruits and juice from the fridge.
"I'm not much of a chef, we normally leave that up to Steve, but I can handle some fruit smoothies," Natasha commented, trying to make conversation. "You okay with fruit?"
"Um, yeah," Wanda agreed, although some of the fruit she wasn't sure she had ever tried before.
Natasha smiled, pulling out a knife from a drawer beside her. Wanda watched her slice up fruit with quick, precise movements, tossing handfuls in the blender before dumping juice in and placing the lid on. She hit a couple buttons, and then walked away, grabbing plastic cups, straws and lids. When she returned, she turned off the blender and distributed the contents equally into the two cups, placed straws and lids on the cups and handed one to Wanda, taking a sip of the other herself.
Wanda stood silently for a moment, the cup in her hands, before she followed Natasha's lead and sipping the drink herself. She enjoyed the taste, it was sweet, but not enough to make her cringe in the morning. She decided she liked it and put the straw back in her mouth, switching between sipping the drink and chewing on the plastic straw in anxiety.
"We've got a big day today, what do you say we take these to go and get going?" Natasha asked, smiling at Wanda.
Wanda looked up from the cup to look at Natasha, who was smiling encouragingly at her.
"Where are we going?" Wanda asked.
"Well, like I said, you need clothes of your own, and also, I figured we can make your room feel a little more like yours. We can get you some of your own bedding too, maybe some decorations, books, whatever you'd like," Natasha listed off, discussing the plans for the day.
With the list growing, Wanda perked up at the mention of books, but still felt overall anxiety about the entire plan.
"But, I don't have any money," Wanda mentioned quietly.
Natasha laughed, but Wanda didn't understand what was so funny.
"Don't worry about it, kid, Tony's fronting the bill for this one. If anything, he owes you this and more."
Wanda couldn't disagree with the older woman, and smiled to herself, thinking about their impending trip to the shopping center.
"I'll be with you the whole time, and we'll try to be quick about it. But, you are going to need your own stuff," Natasha tried to comfort Wanda, so the anxiety must have been clear on her face.
Wanda took a deep breath, nodding along with it, agreeing to Natasha's plan. The anxiety of going out was looming over her head, but she knew she'd have to do this sooner or later, like Natasha said, she can't live in Natasha's too big clothes forever. She might as well get it over with.
"Okay, when are we going?" Wanda mumbled, the straw still in her mouth.
"We can go in a couple minutes, finish your drink and then we'll get going," Natasha smiled, taking a seat at the island counter before pulling out another stool. Natasha could sense the anxiety falling off Wanda in waves, maybe taking a few minutes for her to relax before dragging her out to the mall.
Wanda followed the instructions, climbing up into the stool and placing the smoothie cup on the countertop, taking another sip. They sat in silence for a few moments, sipping the drinks and before they knew it, the cups were empty and Natasha was gathering the dishes, putting them into the dishwasher and closing it before turning back to Wanda, who was nervously fiddling with her fingers and twirling her rings around.
"Ready?"
Wanda was silent for a moment before she answered.
"Sure."
"It's gonna be fun, don't worry," Natasha smiled, ushering Wanda out of the kitchen toward the elevator.
Wanda wasn't sure how to respond to that comment, having no idea what to expect from the day ahead, so she nodded and followed Natasha out of the room. Before entering the elevator, Natasha snagged a set of car keys off of a hook on the wall, and what Wanda assumed to be her purse from the ground. Wanda followed behind Natasha quietly, and when they reached the garage, she was sure her eyes were going to come out of her head. While Wanda didn't know much about cars, she knew what expensive ones looked like, and when the two entered the huge garage on the bottom floor of the Tower, Wanda was met with a row of expensive looking, shiny cars.
Natasha didn't seem phased as she lead Wanda down the line of vehicles to a sleek black car at the end of the row.
"This one's mine, we can take one of Tony's out for a joy ride another time," Natasha winked at her, opening the door and climbing into the car.
Wanda followed suit, climbing into the passenger side seat as Natasha started the car. Pulling a pair of sunglasses out of the center console, Natasha threw the car into drive and pulled out of the garage. They cruised down the road at what Wanda only assumed was faster than the speed limit would generally allow people to go. But they didn't seem to run into many other vehicles until they were almost at their destination. When Natasha pulled the car into the parking lot, Wanda let her eyes roam over the rows upon rows of vehicles sprawled out across the lot, shining in the sunlight.
Finding a spot, Natasha pulled in, placed the car in park and turned it off. She turned in her seat to face Wanda, placing the sunglasses on top of her head.
"Ready?" she smiled.
Wanda swallowed and looked at Natasha, playing with her fingers in her lap.
"Come on, it's going to be fun," Natasha smiled, putting her hand on top of Wanda's for a moment before breaking apart and opening her car door.
As they walked into the mall, Wanda's eyes flicked around quickly, looking around at her surroundings. The area was huge, people everywhere in the halls, big stores filled with merchandise in the front windows and harsh lights bombarded her from every angle. Natasha walked beside her, and when she noticed Wanda's fingers tangle together tightly, she took her hands gently, pulling them apart and keeping hold of one of her hands.
"It's going to be fine, kid, don't worry," Natasha put an arm around Wanda's shoulders and pulled her into a hug. Wanda relaxed briefly, thankful for the comfort from the older woman in the midst of the extremely crowded area.
"Now, shall we start with clothes?" Natasha smiled, looking down at Wanda.
"Sure," Wanda tried to smile.
"Come on," Natasha hooked her arm through Wanda's and lead her down a hall toward one of the big bright stores.
After hours of wandering the shops, Wanda came away with all new bedding and decorative pillows in shades of reds and greys, a pile of little knick-knacks to display around her room, soaps and other toiletries for her bathroom and an entire wardrobe to fill the closet, comprised of skirts, dresses, cardigans, shorts, jeans and more athletic clothes than she thought she could ever wear, when Natasha finally decided to break for lunch.
"I'm getting hungry, you want to drop everything off in the car and then we can stop at the food court before we hit the last store?" Natasha suggested, hefting the pile of bags in her arms.
Wanda nodded, trying her best to keep her own pile of bags in her grasps, the weight starting to get to her. She wondered how Natasha didn't even seem to be breaking a sweat.
They marched to the car, shoving as much as they could in the trunk before putting the last few bags in the back seat. Heading back into the mall, Natasha guided them toward the food court, getting Wanda to pick a table while she goes to find them something for lunch. As Wanda sat down at the table, she found herself watching everything around her, eyes flickering frantically around to try to keep an eye on everyone and everything she could. Before she could work herself up too much, she found Natasha stepping into her eyeline, sitting down across from her at the little table with two sandwiches in her hands.
"Eat up, I think you're going to like this last store," Natasha smiled, handing one sandwich over to Wanda.
They ate in relative silence, the background noise of the mall filling in the noise as they ate. And finally, when they were done, Natasha stood from the table, gathering up all of the trash from their lunches and throwing it in the trash can near them.
"You ready for the last and best store of the day?" Natasha teased, trying to get Wanda excited for the last shop.
"What else could I possibly need?" Wanda asked as she stood up from the table.
"Well, you'll need something to entertain yourself. Stark will have hooked you up with all the tech you could ever need, but I know that I'm more privy to enjoying the simpler entertainments in life," Natasha smiled, leading Wanda down a quieter hallway toward a large store in a more secluded section of the mall.
When they walked through the door, Wanda was floored by the displays in the front of the store. Books. Piles and piles of books everywhere. In all different colours and sizes. She was in awe, trying to take everything in all at once.
"Take your time here, kid," Natasha chuckled.
Natasha stepped back, letting Wanda take the lead as she had in any other store. Snagging a basket from the front of the store, Natasha followed the younger girl around the shelves, letting her browse along the spines of the novels. Every once and a while Wanda would pull out a book from the piles, read the back of the novel and then, after debating, would place it back on the shelf. Of course, Natasha, being an expert in reading people, would snatch up the books that Wanda would linger on, placing them in the basket that grew heavier as they wandered on. By the end of their rounds in the store, it had been another hour and a half, and Natasha had the basket filled with books, and a few more in her arms that were overflowing from the shopping basket.
"That everything?" Natasha smiled, bumping hips with Wanda as she walked up stand beside her.
Wanda took a moment to look at the basket, she hadn't realized that Natasha was collecting all of the books that she had even dared to touch. Her eyes grew wide when she saw the piles in Natasha's arms.
"That's so many," Wanda gasped, unsure on whether she should ask Natasha to put some of them back, overwhelmed with the size of the stack.
"Don't worry about it, like I said, Tony is paying. And plus, you need something to do with your time between training sessions," Natasha teased.
Not taking no for an answer, Natasha headed straight for the checkout, placing the entire pile on top of the counter and watched the girl at the desk ring each of them through, placing the piles into shopping bags. Wanda watching each book going from the basket to the bags, eyes drinking in the covers, eagerly watching all of the books Natasha had snatched up. When the cashier was finished, Natasha flashed a shiny black card and paid without a second look. They each took an oversized bag and hefted them out to the car.
As much as Wanda was eager to keep them in her hands, she knew that the bags were too heavy for her to hold on her lap for the entirety of the ride back to the Tower. When they situated themselves in the car, books safely secured in the backseat, Natasha turned to smile at Wanda.
"Thank you," Wanda smiled, looking at Natasha and trying to convey her genuine thankfulness for the day to the older woman.
"Don't worry about it," Natasha smiled.
The two sat in silence for a moment before Natasha turned and started the car.
"What do you say, why don't we finish this day off right, and get some ice cream for the ride home?" Natasha smiled eagerly, looking across the console at Wanda.
Wanda smiled eagerly, just as excited as she was to walk into the bookstore earlier. With the lightened mood, Natasha turned the radio up, playing some pop song through the speakers and rolling down the windows as she pulled out of the parking lot. Wanda enjoyed the breeze on her face, a smile stretching across her face as she enjoyed the last of the day that she had spent with Natasha.
As Natasha handed her an ice cream cone from the drive thru that had gone through, Wanda felt herself thinking about how she had already been accepted by the woman that she had put through hell about a week before this. She was already thankful for this woman, and the kindness she had shown, and sat back in her seat, enjoying the cool, chocolatey treat that Natasha had given her.
