A/N: Thank you for all the kind reviews you left on the last chapter, it meant a lot to me that you enjoyed it and I hope you like this one. Happy reading :)
'Em, I understand that you're upset…'
'Whoa, whoa, whoa…upset?' Emily hissed as she stopped pacing and turned to face Aaron as he laid hooked up to a morphine drip, nothing but hurt and anger in her eyes as she strode towards the bed with her hands on her hips and chewed on her bottom lip while glaring at him. 'Aaron, I am not upset. I'm livid and the only reason I haven't slapped you yet is because you're in bad enough of a state as it is. What were you thinking? You disregarded the team, you went behind my back, you blew your cover and I think we both know where that bullet would have ended up if Morgan hadn't had intervened and taken Morales down when he did. I realise that you had good intentions, but what you did today was so stupid and reckless and underhanded and…and it made me hate you for the first time. I hate you for making me hate you.'
Even though he was still heavily drugged up on pain medication and he had to admit that everything was still a little hazy since he had only just come round, the tear that rolled down her cheek didn't go unnoticed by him and his heart sank in his chest. 'Come here.' He said gently.
She gave him a silent shake of her head in response as she wiped the tear from her cheek and diverted her gaze from his own.
'Emily, that wasn't a request it was an order,' He realised that he was starting to sound much more like her superior than her boyfriend, but his tone managed to get her to look up at him again and so he wasn't too bothered about that. She stared at him silently for a time, picking the black nail polish from her nails as she resisted the urge to start biting them before she sighed deeply and began making her way around to him. Despite the pain he was in, he succeeded in moving over a little to make some room for her on the bed and when she laid down next to him he wasted no time in putting an arm around her waist and pulling her close to him. 'You're right, what I did today was careless and as a result I put all of us at risk, but I refuse to apologise to you or anyone else for making that choice because I only did it to keep you safe.'
'Yeah, but…'
'Just shut up and listen for a minute, will you?' He grumbled before using the hand on her back to pull her shirt up a little, a soft smile appearing on his lips as she relaxed in his arms when he rested his hand at the base of her spine and started running it across her pale skin. 'Morales and Rivera were suspecting you, I could see it every time they looked at you and I knew that sooner or later something was going to prove them right. I've been in this job long enough to know what they would have done to you when they found out that it was all just a cover and you were a federal agent, so I blew my cover because there was no way that I was going to let either one of them put their hands on you. You are by far the strongest, most fearless woman I have ever known and I know for a fact that you would have been able to take it, but the thought of potentially losing you made me sick. I love our team, you know that, but you and this little one have to be my main priority.'
When his hand moved to cradle her tiny baby bump beneath her shirt, she smiled at him for a moment before lowering her gaze to her belly and sighing as his thumb brushed against the unmistakable proof of their first child. It had taken them completely by surprise when the test she had taken had come back positive. A baby hadn't been part of the plan, not when the two of them had only been dating six months and living together two, but instead of being disappointed they had been delighted and she had loved seeing how desperate he had been to tell the team. For weeks, every time they entered the bullpen he had quietly begged her to let him tell someone and every time she had refused. She had just wanted to wait until the twelve-week scan to be positive that everything was all right with the baby before they said anything.
Miraculously, he had managed to keep quiet about it and when she had finally given him permission to tell everyone about it once they had told Jack he had pulled her into the round-table room. The team had all been ecstatic at the news and it was still all that Penelope was able to talk about whenever she saw them. She was nearly seventeen weeks now and they were both growing increasingly impatient to find out whether there was a little boy or girl hidden away in there. Jack was desperate for a baby sister, bless his heart, and whenever he came and got into bed with them for cuddles in the morning he loved to leave kisses on her stomach and talk to the baby even though she and Aaron knew it was unable to hear him. In his mind though, his little sibling could hear everything he said and they were happy to let him believe it.
She slipped her hand underneath her shirt so that she could rest it over his as she tilted her head back on his shoulder and looked up at him again, her eyes closing when he leaned in and pressed his lips to hers in a warm kiss. Under most circumstances, she would have given in to him when he tangled his spare hand in her hair and swept his tongue across her bottom lip, but she knew that he was still in bad shape and needed to rest and so she pulled back after brushing one more kiss against his lips. They gave themselves a moment to catch their breath as she cuddled against again, being careful not to knock his side as she slid an arm over his stomach, and when he stroked her hair she sighed. 'Aaron Hotchner, you ever put me and our child through this again and I promise you that I'll put an end to you myself. Is that understood?'
'Understood,' He chuckled against her temple before kissing her there and smiling against her skin. 'Understood…'
