Chapter 3:Shattering revelations
Maka could safely say she had dealt with many, many unpleasant and downright crappy moments in her eventful time as a meister.
Bruises received from a particularly powerful evil human.
The rare concussions from an unlucky blow to the head.
The stinging feeling of nasty slash wounds that would later become scars.
And of course the sheer agony she'd felt when she was stabbed in the chest by the kishin himself.
But throughout this long line of unpleasant experiences, maka could safely say, the only thing that could even rival the agonizing pain of being stabbed through the chest; was the nasty feeling of waking up after a long and chaotic fight.
Needless to say, it sucked.
God, it sucked so much. Everything in her body would feel so sore, pain would flare up in places where she was injured as they reconnected to her nerves. Making maka simply wishing she didn't wake up, to begin with. And that's what made maka right now want to do nothing more than continue sleeping away. It Being a much easier alternative than to awaken to such an unpleasant feeling. Okay yes, it sounded lazy as hell, but it's not her fault she couldn't just wake up feeling nice and comfy every time this kind of thing happened to her. Heck even as she felt being on some kind of bed or mattress, she still felt kinda crappy right now.
And this was only made worse when maka began hearing a strangely familiar voice ring in her ears.
"Maka...maka, Are you awake?"
"Go away...just five more minutes," Maka murmured groggily, It was too damn early for this crap.
"Cmon maka it's me, wake up already."
Okay seriously, whoever this annoying person is, he was about to get a world of hurt if he kept interrupting her sleep. But now that she thought about it, that voice sounded very familiar. Did it sound a lot like...soul?
But wasn't he?...weren't they...
Inside asura's soul to find crona...
Who was preparing to seal himself away with the kishin using BREW...
The book eibon and BREW acting on their own...
Dragging them all to some gateway...
Waking up in a park...
A city in Japan...
Those people with bizarre features and strange powers...
Those freaky robbers...
Being hunted down by costumed people...
That rabbit woman and birdman...
The collapsing building...
The feeling of her foot getting crushed by a piece of rubble...
The little girl...
Crona saving the child at the last minute...
Her friend falling to the ground...
Catching him in her arms as he fell unconscious...
The police cornering them...
The ambulance...
All these memories and feelings came rushing through her head all at once like a tidal wave. Pushing through her skull and brain until-
Maka's eyes shot wide and gasped, shooting herself out of the pillow she laid on and was now sitting upright on the bed she was on.
After taking a few breaths she managed to calm herself down enough to look around her new surroundings. She was clearly in a hospital, as the room she was in had clean white walls and floors with the sound of beeping IVs being heard. The rooms also had windows but long white curtains blocked the bright sunlight, yet the room's bright lights on the ceiling were more than enough to replace having natural light.
She also noticed that she was now wearing instead of the spartoi clothes she had worn yesterday. She now only had a light bluish/green hospital gown on her body while lying on a white medical bed.
The first thing that came to maka's head was the simple question of where was she? Did everything that happened yesterday was merely a vivid dream or hallucination brought on by going inside asura? Yet that theory was immediately dismissed, when she saw two damning pieces of evidence lie right in front of her that proved that idea to be otherwise.
The first one being that her right foot was hung up in a sling attached rod, while the limb itself was wrapped around a tight cast with a certain level of thickness; only exposing her toes that peeked out a purple bruised discoloration. At first, maka was confused by how this had happened, but soon enough, the flood of memories began seeping into her head. helping the ash-blonde girl remember straight away how she first got that nasty injury.
So yeah, everything did happen yesterday, as insane as it was to believe it. Yet despite how much maka didn't want to believe it all didn't happen, she couldn't just straight up deny the truth either. Especially since the second piece of evidence that proved what happened yesterday, was a certain somebody peacefully resting in a bed right in front of her.
Just across from maka, was on a bed just like her own, the still unconscious form of crona. Like herself, the attire he wore from yesterday was gone and had been replaced by a hospital gown just like hers. The pink-haired swordsman now having bandages wrapped around his forehead, clearly due to the minor head injury he suffered when fighting those robbers.
He also had some other bandages wrapped around his arms, some being from his shoulder to bicep areas, while others were around both his forearms. Not only that if maka looked closely enough, but she could also see even more bandages were wrapped around his upper torso as well; being where crona had taken the most injuries from his previous opponent.
Overall the poor guy looked like a quarter-wrapped mummy, no doubt due to all the slashes and cuts he got when fighting that birdman from yesterday. Sure in the end those cuts and other injuries were barely much to the ex-demonsword, the only reason he passed out was out of sheer exhaustion from separating from the kishin. Otherwise, crona would have just shrugged it off like it was nothing and kept going for hours on end.
But it still made maka cringe at just how much this poor boy had gone through, and all of it being for her sake no less. Making her feel so guilty that she was what drove crona to go through such lengths, to the point of endangering his body and health just to make sure she was fine.
Yet at the same time, it was honestly heartwarming to see such loyalty to her and his friends, just another sign that her friend had finally returned; yet hopefully, after crona wakes up she could tell him just how grateful she was for all he'd done.
Yet as maka stewed over these concerned thoughts, had jolted when she suddenly felt a hand rest on her shoulder. Maka turning to see sitting on a chair next to her bed was none other than her death scythe soul.
"Hey, hey take it easy maka, it's only me," Soul assured his meister who after seeing his face, calmed down a bit. "Gotta say though, I never thought I'd be the one having to wake you up from the bed. Usually, it's the other way around."
"Well, you didn't have to run to save someone while your foot was crushed." Maka remarked. "so excuse me for feeling a bit drained."
"Yeah you got me there, we did kinda go through a lot yesterday. I'm honestly shocked that I didn't flat out pass out like crona did when we got here." Soul reflected, however this caused maka to remember more clearly the events that transpired before she fell asleep. Of how they were forced to surrender to the police and those costumed people.
"Wait a minute, the soul just where exactly are we anyway?" Maka asked causing the albino to close his eyes and sigh in response; before he decided to indulge his meister in the details of what happened while she and crona were snoozing away.
"Well, I got good news...and I got bad news," Soul said while scratching the back of his head. "To answer your question we're in what they called central hospital, one of the best hospitals around here apparently. the doc already examined you two and wanted me to tell you that despite your injuries you and crona are gonna be fine."
"How's crona though, I know you said he'd be fine but I honestly doubt those cuts were the only injuries he had," Maka said while turning to look at the sleeping form of crona.
"Well besides the cuts, he also has a minor concussion from that asshole who bashed him in the pavement; along with some blood loss. The doc said due to his peculiar blood it'll take time to resupply itself, so he just needs to rest for a few weeks and he'll be up and running in no time." Maka then let out a sigh of relief at this news, happy that crona would be fine in the end despite everything he went through. Yet there was still something nagging at her mind, as she eyed her casted leg anxiously.
"And my foot?" maka anxiously asked her weapon who was quick to answer.
"Thankfully nothing's broken, it's only heavily bruised. Doc said you were pretty damn lucky that rock wasn't too big, otherwise, you'd probably would need surgery." Soul repeated what the doctor told him half an hour ago. With Maka nearly shuddering at the thought of something so extreme like that needing to happen to her. "Yet it's still gonna be a while before you can walk without crutches though."
And the minute those words came out of soul, maka felt a pit form in her stomach, as she was dreading to ask her weapon her one question. Yet with enough courage she managed to ask her main concerns over her injury.
"How long soul?" Maka asked with that same worried tone in her voice. "How long is it going to take for my foot to heal?"
"...About a month or two, tops," Soul answered his meister and couldn't help but wince at maka's aghast expression.
Two whole months...she was going to be stuck like this for the next two months and there wasn't anything she could do about it. Maka could only grit her teeth in frustration at the injured state she found herself in.
How the heck was she going to help everyone defeat the kishin like this!?
There's no way they'd be able to wait out a few months for her bruised foot to heal up. By the time that happened the world would've completely fallen into madness by then. So even if she and her friends got back to death city she'd be completely useless in helping to save the world from asura.
Perfect...just fucking perfect.
But somehow her own dilemma had to wait, as yet another important matter had to be dealt with. Thus after a calming breath to reel in her emotions, looked back at soul with an uneasy look on her face.
"And what's the bad news?" Maka quietly said, as she already was having a bad feeling as to what Soul was about to say next.
"The bad news is that the police and those costumed weirdos apparently called 'heroes', are waiting to interrogate us all once you and crona were awake and ready." Soul paused nearly chuckling at maka's incredulous expression at those people being called something like that before continuing. "At first they tried getting something out of me, but let's just say that I just wasn't in the mood." Soul said with a shark-toothed smirk on his face as he fondly remembered the "interrogation" he had with the officers last night.
FLASHBACK: 9 hours ago
"Alright punk, listen up! Your vigilante friends are currently being treated for their injuries by the doctors here, which is gonna take a long ass time to wait for; so in the meantime, I and my partner here think it's a perfect time to get some answers out of you." police officer who appeared as a humanoid elephant, explained in English to the bored teenager sitting on the other side of the table.
The hospital had lent the officers and the heroes a spare room in the facility to allow for the authorities to interrogate the albino teen for answers to everything that happened tonight. Luckily the police chief had two officers one of who was sorta decent with the English language, while the other was an American transferred to Japan. So with that in mind, it was up to these two officers to get information out of the teenage vigilante.
"Normally Hawks and Mirko would be here instead of us, but thanks to you and your friends beating the crap out of them; They're ALSO currently getting treated for the injuries your little gang inflicted. so they ain't gonna be ready till tomorrow to talk to you brats, thus that leaves us here to get the answers we need." The elephant officer explained yet Soul didn't seem at all interested in what he said, only yawning in response; much to the American officer's frustration.
"Hey! We're talking to you!" The same officer shouted in irritation as he slammed his bulky hands at the table. Which seemed to get soul's attention as he raised his head to look at the annoyed officer.
"Huh? Sorry, the heck we're you guys saying again?" Soul asked lazily, looking completely disinterested in what this guy was saying to him.
"Grrr...I was saying that your gonna answer our questions! You have no choice in this matter as your friends aren't here to cover your ass now! And to top it off your facing multiple serious charges here for your stunt with that building. That includes attacking and injuring two top pro heroes, So the best thing you can do to not end up in Tartarus is tell us everything you know." The officer firmly demanded as he waited for the boy's response.
"Yeah, yeah sure, whatever you say, pal." Soul accepted without reluctance, as he leaned back on his chair.
"Hmph, That's better. Alright to start things off-"
"-Unfortunately, if you're expecting me to answer everything you want as of right now, then sorry to break it to you but I'm pretty beat. It's kinda hard to answer anything when I'm feeling so wreaked from today; so how about I talk to you guys tomorrow?" Soul calmly reasoned with the officer, who practically had steam fuming flying out of his elephant trunk.
"What!? Kid this is not a damn negotiation here! You will answer our questions right here, and right now!" The officer demanded immediately.
"And I got no problem with that, but doesn't it feel wrong to just demand answers out of a guy, who did nothing but run and fight all day? That's just not cool man." Soul cooly remarked with a small smirk.
"NOT COOL!?" The officer repeated in utter fury as a vein popped on his head. "Now you listen here you wise-ass punk-!"
"Johnson just stop, don't give yourself a stroke over this guy, he ain't worth it." The officer's partner calmly said in fluent Japanese, having been in a corner of the room this time; as he walked over to his partner, revealing to be completely covered in purple feathered skin. "And besides I just got a call from the chief while you were talking to this kid." The second officer whispered to his interrogation partner.
"Really? What did he say?" Johnson quietly questioned, now speaking in Japanese as well.
As the two officers had begun whispering to each other, soul merely watched the two cops discussing to themselves. Whatever they were talking about it was pretty important, especially if they switched languages as a precaution to keep him from hearing anything else.
Yet honestly it didn't matter to the death scythe anyway, these cops could bark at him for answers all they wanted but in the end, he wasn't planning on giving them a single letter out of his mouth. Besides he wasn't lying either, soul was genuinely exhausted from this whole experience today and just really didn't feel like being yelled at by Mr. tusks over there.
But after a minute or two of waiting the two officers turned to face him again with a look of calm reluctance.
"Well congrats kid, you getting what you want, The chief wants to resume our talk once your friends are awake." The pink feathered officer told soul in broken English.
"But it's really because we're waiting for a detective coming to deal with the case tomorrow." The elephant officer explained further, causing soul's eyes to widen in surprise before regaining his composure.
Wait, a freakin detective was getting involved in this? That could either end pretty well or pretty badly for them if they don't play their cards right. Shit...He'd needed to warm maka about this new little development on their way.
"Well then if that's the case, I guess I'll be heading to a hospital bed for a snooze till tomorrow then," Soul said as he was about to get up from his seat.
"Who said you'd be having a bed?" The elephant officer interjected causing Soul to look at the large man in confusion. "The docs told us you were the least injured out of all three of you. All you have are some scrapes and minor bruises, nothing more. And since you don't need such intensive care, I think I know the perfect spot where you can 'snooze' nice and easy." The elephant man told the albino teen with an almost condescending smirk under his elephant trunk, proceeding to raise in front of the teen a pair of handcuffs in his face.
Well...shit.
"And that's pretty much what happened while you were out." Soul finished explaining. "I'd say I did pretty well keeping those cops off my back all things considering. I guess I was just too cool for them to handle." Soul said proudly, yet maka was not at all amused by this one bit.
"Yeah sure, and I'm guessing that getting handcuffed to the chair was also because you were 'too cool' as well?" Maka deadpanned as she pointed to his handcuffed wrist, one that had been attached to the arm of the chair he had been stuck sitting in since his attempted interrogation.
"I've dealt with worse than this maka." Soul remarked as he briefly looked at his handcuffed wrist. "Besides, at least they let me stay in the same room as you guys were in; so I'd say it ain't all bad all things considered."
"If you say so, soul." Maka relented without further argument, not bothering to deal with soul's antics after just waking up. "So anyway, is there a detective coming here for us?"
"Yeah, apparently our little 'incident' must be enough to call the attention of the city's top cops; then again, considering all the damage my dumbass stunt caused I-"
"You stop right there." Maka cut off her weapon partner. "I told you before, what happened last night was an accident; you didn't mean for that building to collapse."
Souls face after hearing this became a more solemn expression. His eyes were now scrunched with lingering guilt, while he slumped back on the chair he was sitting in. He had been hiding his true emotions since last night, with maka being the one thing that got him to crack open.
"I know...but it's still my fuck up maka, I'm the reason all this all happened." Soul persisted as the swirl of guilty emotions from last night began leaking out. "I was so damn desperate for a shortcut out of the fight with that rabbit girl that I got reckless. I thought if I just used that ability from the black blood with all my will for only a moment, it could allow us to beat that woman and get us and crona out of this place sooner." Honestly, in retrospect, it was so damn stupid, a stupid ass decision that resulted in so much destruction occurring.
"Yet look what happened instead, All I ended up doing was putting people's lives in danger, get us stuck in this weird-ass city, and get you injured in process of all this. I caused you, my very meister, to get hurt because you were helping me fix my mistake; so how the hell could I not blame myself for all this!?" Soul shouted as he finally released a flood of the shame and guilt that been gnawing at him since last night.
Those emotions that were already swimming inside him, had skyrocketed into tidal waves when he first saw his meister get injured from that rubble. Seeing the horrible sight of the person he cared so much for, was like being stabbed in the gut numerous times for the demon weapon.
Soul knew full well the rubble that crushed maka's foot, was from the building he ended up blowing to bits from his dumbass move with that sonic attack. He might as well have crushed her foot himself. It was because of his screwup that they were forced to surrender to these people, and await god knows what punishment for the damage he'd done.
He can already imagine the disappointment on Maka's face right now, and what she must be feeling right now. But as soul looked up to look at Maka, he was instead met with a strong yet familiar sensation. That being of a thick textbook smashed on top of his poor skull.
MAKA CHOP!
"Ow! The hell!?" Soul cried out in pain while he continued clutching his now bruised head, all while a fed-up maka gripped her weapon of discipline in her hands.
"I swear, I'm starting to lose track of how many times I have to get your head straight! How the hell could you even say that!?" Maka shouted at the pained albino, who looked up at his meister in confusion. "Yes, you were an idiot, but don't you dare blame yourself for what happened to me; that is not nor will it ever be your fault!" Maka said to a stunned soul who stared at her without anything to say.
"The only one who's responsible for this is me, soul." Maka muttered as her voice became a tone laced with sad bitterness. "when that girl was about to get crushed by rubble...I panicked, I was so terrified of that girl dying that I went into complete tunnel vision and didn't regard my surroundings at all." Maka told soul as she turned to look at him with those regretful green eyes. "I'm at fault for my own injuries soul, so I don't want to hear for a second of something I know is not true. Besides, you think I don't feel my share of guilt from all this?" Maka retorted causing soul to look up in complete confusion by what maka said.
"What do you mean?" Soul asked the wheat blonde girl, whose face became scrunched with a sense of guilt similar to his own.
"It's like I said soul, it's my fault that I got this injured. And it wouldn't have bothered me as much...if someone almost didn't die because of my shortcomings." Maka somberly explained to the stunned soul. "I've never felt so helpless before. My body was practically stuck on the ground, unable to do anything, but watch as some innocent kid was about to get crushed in the rubble like a bug. And the only reason why that didn't happen was because of crona coming at the last minute to save her. Now one of my closest friends is lying unconscious right in front of me in a hospital because he overexerted himself trying to help me save someone I failed to do myself."
"Maka, don't say that! That was something completely out of your hands, there was nothing that could've been done." Soul told the scythe meister, who merely shook her head.
"It still doesn't change that I feel partly responsible for this as well. But just because I feel guilty for it, doesn't mean I'm not gonna work harder to prevent it from ever happening again. Soul, what I'm just trying to tell you is that I made my own mistakes yesterday too. I know for a fact, you would never mean anything bad to happen or me, or all those people who got caught for that matter; so stop blaming yourself for all of this. You made mistakes soul, everyone does in life, that's what makes us human."
"But maka...I can't just-" soul was trying to say before maka placed a finger at his lips silencing the guilty weapon.
"Soul I said that's enough. I won't hear my death scythe beat himself up like this any longer. I'll admit you shouldn't have used the black blood like that, yes, that technique would have been effective but you had no prior experience using that sane. It was dumb but your heart was in the right place, nobody else got seriously injured yesterday so just go easy on yourself dummy." Maka lightly scolded her demon weapon, who slumped his shoulders down a bit as maka removed her finger and let the boy speak but had nothing to say. Instead of looking at maka for a minute in stunned silence, completely floored by her willingness to look past his grievous mistake that caused so much trouble for her and everyone else involved.
Yet at that moment soul instantly remembered just who he was talking to again. The girl who had always believed in her friends with such conviction and care, the girl who no matter the obstacle or impossible challenge would always bring out the fiercest of bravery within herself and those around her. And of course, she would be the one to set people straight and not allow their fears to get the better of them, that was the kind of person maka Albarn was and he was beyond lucky enough to be her demon weapon.
As very few meisters would have the fiery spirit to help their friends be shaken away by such guilt and remorse. Besides it was just too uncool to act like that in front of her, god he can only imagine how he looked right now. He needed to get himself together already before he starts embarrassing himself further. So with that soul shook off the remaining guilt in his mind and gave mama his iconic shark-toothed grin, much to maka's relief.
"Yeesh, since when did you become my mom?" Soul asked in amusement, as maka merely rolled her eyes at him.
"Oh please, be glad I wasn't, or otherwise you'd probably be getting my chops daily if I had to deal with you as a kid." Maka teased the death scythe who merely chuckled in response.
"Alright, alright fine you win. Just don't fill my head with that nightmare scenario, the last thing I need is seeing that haunting my dreams." Soul teased back with a mock shudder.
"H-Hey! what's that supposed to mean?" Maka pouted as soul erupted into amused laughter, with eventually maka herself not helping but to join in, as the mood quickly lightened up in the hospital room. However, it would seem the lighthearted laughter was enough to stir up the room's third resident, as before the two knew it a third voice had made itself known.
"...M-maka?" A tired yet familiar voice muttered, causing the two spartoi members to cease their lighthearted laughter in an instance, and quickly turned their heads to where their pink-haired friend was resting; as he was now beginning to awake from his slumber.
They watched as crona's lavender eyes peeked open from his eyelids until after blinking a few times fully opened up as he took in his surroundings; the first being Maka and soul on the other side of the room. "Maka, is that you?" Crona asked, his voice still sounding sleepy but thankfully was becoming more awake by the second.
"Crona you're awake!" Maka shouted out joyously, beyond relieved to see her dear friend finally awake again. She moved and sat up as close as she could to the bed but given the state of her injured foot, had to make do with just sitting upright enough to see him.
"Glad your up and about man. I honestly was getting worried you fell into some kind of coma or something." Soul welcomed to the now awake crona.
"How are you feeling crona? Are you alright?" Maka immediately asked the pink-haired boy, as he sat upon the bed he was on.
"I'm alright, I feel a bit sore...and I think I still have a headache, but It's nothing." Crona yawned out while he began shaking off the drowsiness still inside him.
"Well considering everything that happened, I'm just glad you only passed out from exhaustion with some cuts," Soul said, causing the bandaged boy's eyes to slightly flinch as a swarm of memories slowly but surely began reentering his foggy mind.
"Wait a minute, W-what happened? Where are we?" Crona asked while he rubbed his eyes, the remnants of exhaustion beginning to soon fade away from his body and mind.
"Oh, We're in a hospital crona," Maka answered the teen. "After you passed out those costumed guys and the police surrounded us. So with you out like a light and me injured like this." maka gestured to her casted foot hanging on a sling. "There just was no way we could escape them. So We had no other choice but to surrender and took us here for medical treatment."
Crona's eyes widened as he began remembering everything before him falling unconscious. Did...that happened? It wasn't all some kind of bizarre dream his mind had concocted from a cocktail of madness and desperate emotions? Crona looked down to find himself now without his black robe but instead was wearing a light blue hospital gown. Along with finding out he...had no undergarments in his hospital attire.
A fact that made crona blush red from the sheer embarrassment of finding himself so bare naked underneath this flimsy gown.
But The swordsman soon noticed that that parts of his arms and upper torso were now covered in multiple bandages. Which only further cemented the fact that yesterday was real. As crona looked back up, practically recoiled in horror as he saw maka's right foot now wrapped in a white-clothed cast. Thus unfortunately confirming the part of the recent memories he wished wasn't true. That maka had gotten injured before he could arrive in time to help her and soul. His heart then became clenched with great guilt, as sorrow poured into his soul like a flooding river the longer he looked at maka's injured limb.
"Crona, What's wrong?" Maka asked in evident concern as she saw crona's expression become scrunched in sadness and his eyes looking more melancholy than even usual.
"Maka...I'm so sorry, i-if I had just arrived on time sooner then y-you wouldn't be like this." Crona berated himself with tearful guilt dripping from his voice, as he tugged on the hospital sheets tightly. "Why can't I do anything right for you, just once? Every time I try to help you and my friends, I just end up either failing miserably or making things worse; it seems to be all I'm capable of doing."
"Crona what the hell are you talking about?" Maka gawked at her friend's guilt, before pinching the bridge of her nose and releasing an exasperated sigh. "Just how many times do I have to keep telling soul and now you this? What happened to me was my fault for getting careless; nobody is to blame for this." Maka chastised the pink-haired boy.
"B-but I-"
"Crona please, just let me speak," Maka asked the boy who stopped what he was about to say and let her speak. "As I was saying, you don't make things worse crona and you especially don't fail me or anyone else. I mean, did you already forget about what you did last night? I'm pretty sure saving a child from mortal danger counts for helping us, if you hadn't arrived when you did crona...then let's just say things would have ended very differently." Maka finished on that grim note, as the dark possibility of what could have happened last night sunk into the young man's head.
Needless to say, it was enough to stop whatever more blame he would put on himself in its tracks. Maka was right, he may have been unable to stop her from ending up like this, but at least he saved a life that had to mean something? Yet as much as he wanted it to, he still felt very unsatisfied by that. It may have sounded greedy, but crona would have instantly preferred to have both saved a life AND prevent maka from getting injured like this.
It just made him feel so disappointed In himself, true it had only taken a few minutes to get there; but had his body not been so exhausted he could've been there MUCH sooner. Hey, he flew to the moon for crying out loud. If he was at 100% he'd have flown there to aid maka and soul in less than half a minute, or even a quarter of that. But he couldn't let this guilt get to him, what's done was done. At very least he'd made his first step to atonement last night by saving that child. Sure it wasn't enough to make any significant difference from the ocean of blood he's spilled, but it was a start.
A minor and ruff start, but one nonetheless.
"Y-your right, I'm glad that I was able to save that child but," Crona paused for a moment. "I-l just w-wished you didn't get hurt in the end, you tried so hard to save those people, yet all you got was your foot getting m-messed up." Maka's expression softened at the sight of her friend's immediate concern for her; and the remaining regret for what happened.
"It's alright," maka waved it off. "I'm just happy we're all safe and sound, and if it meant getting a little injured then I can deal with it," Maka assured the bandaged swordsman in front of her, it seemed to work as crona now had a faint smile on his face. Yet that small smile soon faded and his expression turned into one of realization as a certain set of memories came rushing back to him.
"Wait maka, what about all those people in costumes and the police? Did...did we?" Crona trailed off as he saw a pair of handcuffs on soul's wrist and the right arm of the chair he'd been sitting on.
"Yeah...we got caught." Soul grimaced, causing crona to lightly gasp in shock. "After you fell asleep, those guys and swarms of the police took the opportunity to surround us. With Maka's injury and you out as a light, we didn't have much choice but to turn ourselves in." Crona's stunned expression immediately returned into one of frustrated regret, as he clenched his eyes tightly and his hands now tight fists.
"Crona." Maka said in a tone of near parental scolding. her face saying it all, as maka's expression was now one of vehement disapproval. Crona instantly flinched at the sight of it, as he already knew that he was close to getting a maka chop if he kept it up.
"S-sorry, I know it was out of m-my hands maka. All I can do now is to do better next time." Crona replied, causing her scolding expression to disappear and become a more warm and understanding one instead.
"Again it's okay, no one to blame for last night's outcome. But you're right about one thing crona. We all made our fair share of mistakes last night, but while we can't undo them. we can instead work harder to prevent our mistakes from repeating in the future." Maka said with an optimistic smile, her presence beaming a wavelength of hope and belief to her friends around her.
Crona slowly but surely smiled at maka's positive presence, her soul's wavelength already giving off the same hope he felt when they first met and was enough to make any feelings of shame or regret for his failures wash away. And as for soul, well he simply looked on in approval and feeling the same infectious optimism that currently had crona.
Yeah, it was true they had made mistakes and wished they could undo them to prevent the consequences that came from those actions. Whether it was being reckless out of desperation, or simply not coming in a friend's aid in time. But they couldn't let their regrets or guilt eat away at them, the best thing now was to learn from their shortcomings and improve themselves later on. That was the kind of thing maka would also give to her friends besides courage; that being the hope to improve themselves for the better and overcome their flaws. It only proved that they at least had each other, no matter what happens next.
Thus as the trio sat there in the hospital room in optimistic silence, crona eventually had to break the tender moment; To ask an important question involving their current situation.
"S-so what now? I'm guessing there's going to be someone coming to talk to us soon, is there." Crona questioned his two friends in front of him.
"Yeah actually. A detective is coming here to personally interrogate us." Soul answered the swordsman.
"You think he can help us with our situation soul? I mean this city has to know about lord's death right?" Maka asked the albino sitting next to her, who only scratched his head in response.
"I don't know maka. I mean do you remember what red wings said last night before we duked it out? The guy didn't seem to know zilch about Shibushan only that it was a school of some kind. same being for the other guy in a blue leotard before we were chased around the city." Soul pointed out already seeing the pattern that this place doesn't seem to know anything about those widely known topics. "What makes you think that detective is any better than them?" Soul raised his eyebrow while awaiting a response.
Maka thought it over, and as much as she didn't want to admit it. The people's ignorance of shibushan did concern her more than she'd thought. I mean how come nobody knew about such topics that were downright historical in humanity's knowledge. Even the most rural villages in the world had some knowledge of the demon weapon/meister academy and the god that governs the city it's in. So why didn't this mysterious city in Japan know?
The best explanation she could come up with was that this was some kind of hermit city in Japan. Maybe through centuries of isolation from the rest of the world, they had little to no knowledge of the ongoing events or topics in the world. Yet even then, there were still some big gaps in that theory.
Like why was this city so big and modern if it truly was this isolated from the rest of global society? How did they get the resources without compromising their isolation?
Second, what was with these freaky powers and appearances people had here? Everyone either seemed to have some kind of biological feature called "quirks". These powers that not only altered some people's appearances but seemed to originate from a core implanted in their souls. That must have been what gave them their forms and powers.
They seemed to have some kind of system for it if the terms "heroes" and "vigilantes" were anything to go by. Yet why haven't they been noticed till now? Shouldn't meisters or demon weapons with soul perception have spotted such a large number of people with this irregularity to their souls?
Ugh, there still so many questions to their seemingly infinite list of problems. Just when will it end already?
"Look, maybe we're in some kind of city isolated from the rest of Japan? It has to be the best explanation for why nobody knows about shibushan. And this detective coming here might be from a branch in the police that still knows of the organization and lord death. he's probably here to clarify why meisters are in the city." Maka reasoned to a now skeptical soul who raised his eyebrow at her answer.
"That does sound reasonable and it explains a few things, but that's a bit of a stretch don't you think?" Maka in response sighed in exasperation before speaking again.
"Look, I know it doesn't explain everything but it's the best explanation we got right now. I mean what else could there be to explain where we are?" Maka rhetorically asked soul who in return simply shrugged. It did seem like a decent answer, nowhere near a perfect answer but one nonetheless. And maka did have point though, what else could be the answer to this?
However little did the two spartoi meisters know that crona who had remained silent throughout their conversation had been silently panicking as they talked. Having just been reminded of a certain piece of information thanks to maka and soul, that he for now only knew. It was something he'd discovered since yesterday, a discovery that he'd been keeping to himself until the proper time came to reveal it. Yet it seemed that with so much going on, and coupled with his bodily exhaustion, he had forgotten all about it...till now that is.
'How could I forget something like that so easily? I-I can't keep this hidden much longer; they need to know the truth soon. But how do I even tell them?' Crona thought in sheer fear, his now cerulean eyes looking panicked behind his bangs. Those very eyes seeing maka and soul continue optimistically talking about how they'd get back to death city and see their friends again.
They seemed so optimistic about getting back home, their faces showing nothing but hope and excitement for such thoughts. So how could he reveal something as world-shattering as that, while watching his friends mentally broke down from the truth?
He couldn't, there was no way he could handle doing something as cruel as that to them. He'd already done more than enough wrong before, he didn't want to add shattering his friend's hopes to that list. But what other choice was there? He can't keep something like this hidden for long, it was inevitable for them. The best thing the swordsman could do was find a way to tell them that wouldn't result in them falling apart.
'But how?...what way is there to tell them the truth without breaking their hearts...and their minds?'
Crona just didn't know. He kept thinking of a way to tell them this accursed secret he'd been keeping since yesterday. A way that wouldn't end badly for them or cause any serious breakdowns. But how the hell was that even possible? 'How do reveal to someone...that, and not expect them to freak out? No, there's no way around it. I just need to tell them now before it's too late. They at least deserve to be told the truth from someone they know.' Crona grimly accepted, as his once panicked eyes now became calmer, yet still with lingering nervousness in them. Crona knew full well the grief his words would cause to them.
It was something that no one could ever handle so easily. Hell, he could barely handle it as it is. yet crona knew without a doubt that if they were to be told the truth about where they are, it should at least be from someone they know and trust.
Well, he knew after telling it would no doubt waver or outright shatter that trust they had for him. But if it meant preventing maka from falling into despair, then he'd take that sacrifice without regret. Thus without further delay, he raised his head and spoke.
"H-hey guys," Crona muttered as the two turned their heads towards him. "Can we talk for a minute?"
"Sure crona, what is it?" Maka asked curiously with a hint of concern, as she noticed how strangely serious crona looked right now. Soul had noticed this too and slightly narrowed his eyes at the swordsman right now.
'Somethings not right. why does crona look so anxious all of a sudden?' Soul wondered in suspicion, trying to see what was causing the timid teen to act like this out of nowhere.
"There's something I n-need to tell you. I've been waiting to tell you this; b-because I...I couldn't...I can't...I-I don't-" crona tried to speak more but his throat just got caught up in fear. It becoming very clear to him that this was much harder than he originally thought it be.
"Crona calm down. Just tell us what's wrong?" Maka asked her close friend in worry, already concerned about the sudden tension and seriousness in his features. "You look so tense right now, What's causing you to act like this?"
Crona realizing he was stalling and potentially making this worse than it needed to be took a few deep breaths. Swallowing his jittering stutter that was causing him to stall this, and just tell his friends already. "I-it's-"
Yet suddenly as if the universe had commanded it out of sick amusement. Crona felt a tingling pain hit his back, as a glob of black blood came out and formed into none other than Ragnarok.
"Ugh, my head...I feel like my freakin skull is about to split open," Ragnarok muttered before he took a moment to view his surroundings. "Wait for a second, where the hell are we?"
At first, everyone had just stared at the little demon weapon on crona's back, surprised by his sudden appearance. But for crona, his surprise quickly turned into quiet frustration as he gritted his teeth behind his lips.
'Dammit Ragnarok! Why did you decide to come out now of all times!?' Crona internally yelled, tightly gripping the bedsheets in frustration. He was just about to tell maka and soul the truth of their situation; only for Ragnarok to have woken up with the worst timing possible. It was already hard enough as it was to tell his two close friends about this secret, but his brash weapon too? At that moment crona soon felt his headache return as he tried to find a way out of this mess.
"Hey, the hell is with that face?" Ragnarok asked while peering to see his meisters frustrated expression. Crona then raised his eyes to reluctantly look at his weapon. Giving the attached imp a clearly annoyed glare. "I don't know why you look so pissed off, if anything I should be the mad one considering the stunt you made us pull last night!"
"Ragnarok that's enough." maka ordered the ranting weapon. "Quit bugging crona with your whining already, he's done a lot for us, and the last thing he needs to hear is your screechy voice."
At hearing maka's voice, Ragnarok's ping pong eyes swirled to the young teen. The little demon taking a good look at the meister; particularly the cast that was wrapped around Her right foot. It would then only take a moment before Ragnarok began guffawing in mocking fashion. Pointing towards her injured leg with one of his balled hands.
"HAHAHAHA! I gotta say, You got balls to talk to me like that cow considering one of your hooves is all busted up!" Ragnarok sneered at the ash-blonde meister, who felt an angry vein pop in her head. Soon enough, a peeved rage began to emerge from within her. All of it is directed towards the irritating devil attached to crona. maka growled in annoyed anger as she raised her right fist in fury, as a clear warning to the little hellion attached to crona's back.
"Ragnarok...I swear to lord death himself if you don't stop your bullshit, I'll-"
"You'll what? Hit me again? Bitch please, I'd like to see you try and do anything to me in your crappy condition. But hey, at least I'll get the entertainment of seeing your limping ass, crawl to me like the cu-"
And just like that, a thick textbook was violently thrown across the room, firing straight towards the spherical head of the little demon weapon. His pained scream filling the entire room they were in, as the hellion frantically rubbed the large sore bump on the top of his head.
"Wow, not even 5 minutes, and your already starting up trouble," Soul remarked in exasperation at the imps troublesome nature. Crona meanwhile sighed in irritation at the scene, his attached weapon partner was causing it yet again.
Honestly, as much as he missed Ragnarok, he was starting to wonder if there was a way to keep his consciousness "hibernated" like before. Cause right now he can already feel his headache beginning to turn into a full-on migraine from his demon weapon's noisy antics.
"Why!? Why do always go for my head you fucking sadist!" Ragnarok angrily wailed in utter pain from the bleeding dent now on his little forehead.
"Cause you always know how to push my buttons, that's what! God, can just go one moment without being such an annoying asshole?!" Maka yelled back at the bratty demon weapon.
"Well blame yourself for making it too damn easy! I mean how the hell did you fuck up your foot that badly anyway? I thought you were some big badass meister, yet here we all are in this hospital waiting for your sorry ass to heal..." Ragnarok trailed off while the gears in his, brain or whatever counted as one, Began working on overdrive. "Wait a minute." The demonsword muttered as he soon realized something was off since he woke up just now, as a certain piece of information had remained completely unanswered to him.
That detail being...
"How the hell did we end up in a hospital?" Ragnarok asked the three teens, who simultaneously widened their eyes from the demon weapons question. "Weren't we running around all day in this nutty city like a bunch of freakin fugitives yesterday? And what about those cosplaying assholes we were fighting from before? did we kick their asses or what?"
At that moment soul, maka, and crona all said nothing, only continuing to stare at each other with uneasy eyes. Having only now realized that they had forgotten to tell Ragnarok of their current predicament and what was going to happen next. To be honest the three were all hoping he just wouldn't ask the question itself. At least not until after they had their chitchat with the detective. But right now that wishful thinking had now been completely dashed away from them. As the now impatient demonsword was awaiting his answer from any one of them.
"Goddammit." Soul cursed in a barely hearable tone. Trying to figure some way out of this unpleasant situation. He turned to look at his two friends who shared the same look of cringing hesitance on their faces. Clearly showing that they did not want to deal with the fallout of answering Ragnarok's question. Soul really couldn't blame them as he felt the same way. For they all knew very well the massive tantrum to come from the bratty demon weapon should he be told how and why they were here.
"Well? Are you asses going to answer my goddamn question already? Tell me what the hell happened yesterday!" Ragnarok impatiently demanded while angrily crossing his little arms. Getting fed up with their persistent silence and wanted an answer from them right now.
Soul looked at crona who was looking down at the bed while nervously trying to avoid his weapons annoyed gaze. Already soul felt bad for the poor guy, as he would no doubt be both the first and primary victim to Ragnarok's rage should he be told the truth.
The last thing crona needed right now, was to be thrashed and bashed like a punching bag by his bully of a demon weapon on his back. But at the very least the demonsword's anger would be the most directed to the one who told him. So Soul resigned himself to be the sacrificial lamb in this dilemma. Yeah, it is a pain in the ass to go through, but it's better to just rip off the band-aid than just delay this any more than necessary. But as soul was about to open his mouth and prepare to speak, someone had already beat him to the punch.
"Alright, Ragnarok I'll tell you what happened." Maka calmly told the little demon, causing crona's and soul's eyes to widen in surprise by the girl's bravery. Was she seriously going ahead with this?
"Are you really doing this? You do know what's gonna happen if you tell the guy about last night, right?" Soul cautiously asked his meister, wanting to make sure she knows what the girl was getting herself into with this.
"It's okay soul, I can deal with Ragnarok's tantrum, besides you and I both know that there's no avoiding this now." Maka whispered to soul. " I'll just have to make sure he doesn't go do something stupid."
"About fucking time! I mean seriously what's the big deal about this, that's making you guys act like it's the end of the freakin world!?" Ragnarok loudly questioned, already itching for an explanation.
"M-maka are you sure about this? Maybe I'll just tell him, it'll b-be easier for you if I tell him?" crona tried reasoning with the ash-blonde girl but waved his concerns off.
"It's okay crona, I'll handle this, you've done more than enough for all of us," Maka told the nervous crona before turning back to plushie demon plopped on the boy's head. "But I'll only tell you if you promise to not take your anger out on crona, or anyone else for that matter."
"Pffft, please why the hell should I listen to-" and before he knew it another textbook was thrown in his direction, barely missing his head as the little devil yelped in terror at being nearly maka chopped yet again. Maka herself with her arm still extended from the throw glared at the bratty creature at her mercy.
"That's why dumbass...now then, do we have a deal?" Maka sternly asked the merged demon weapon who after a few seconds of sputtering, slumped his ball-like shoulders and looked up at the girl with his ping pong eyes.
"Fine, you win, I'll...play nice." Ragnarok growled out, finally caving into the meister's demands. Maka couldn't however help but give a victorious smirk at Ragnarok's irked expression, who looked liked he chewed up an entire lemon.
"Good, now here's what happened after you and crona passed out." Maka began, and as she started recounting last night's events, crona and soul cringed in dread for what's soon to come. Both boys slowly but surely covered their ears with both hands. Getting ready to protect their eardrums from the explosive noise that was about to come out of Ragnarok's big mouth in but a moment.
In the halls of central hospital, the doctors and nurses walked about to do their daily business. The numerous hospital staff going about to help their many patients within the medical facility. The Sounds of doctors and nurses, footsteps being the only sounds throughout the white Pearl halls of japans, the most technologically advanced hospital. And despite the police's presence in the building to keep watch over the vigilante patients the building; today appeared to be like any other day for the men and women working here.
...That is, until the extremely loud and furious scream of someone on the upper floors, was unfortunately heard throughout the building.
"WHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!"
The panicked doctors and patients stumbled about, as the scream nearly shook the majority of the hospital. After a couple of seconds, the loud shriek had shortly stopped, allowing the shaken hospital staff to take a moment to gather themselves.
"W-what the hell was that doctor?" A brown a haired nurse shakily asked the doctor getting himself back up next to her.
"I don't know Zuni, but it sounded like someone who was REALLY, REALLY pissed off." A doctor with thin ropes for fingers nervously said while he intently gazed at the ceiling.
The man was cautiously waiting to see if whatever made such an angry scream had gone away. Only to be immediately proven wrong. As he and the several others on the floor heard in ten seconds, "slightly" quieter yelling from the same scratchy voice above them. Now being able to make out some colorful language being shouted out to someone. The doctors and patients on the floor below felt nothing but pity, for the poor souls being forced to endure the foul-mouthed screeching above them.
TEN MINUTES EARLIER
In the halls of central hospital's second floor, past the doctors checking on patients or examining important medical information, was a single man walking by.
He was a slightly aged man with short, balding black hair that was slowly graying by its ends along with a thin beard. The man also wore a dark-colored suit, a black waistcoat, a pair of black gloves, and a plain tie. This man casually walked through the passing staff, as he searched for a particular room On this hospital's floor. He'd been assigned to this particular case on a whim, due to the nature of the situation itself. That three Americans with powerful quirks had not only committed a string of vigilante activity. But also caused major collateral damage to the city block they fought two major pro heroes in.
Needless to say, it had become a major concern to the hero public safety commission. Not just because of the raw power and skill these teens supposedly possessed, but due to the likelihood of this becoming an international affair if not handled carefully. Thus the government organization decided to send a detective to investigate the case and get the answers needed to resolve this problem.
Normally most detectives would have gone straight to the suspects of interest and interrogate them immediately. But for someone who's been doing this job as Eizo tanuma has; you'd be wise to get a perspective of the committed crime before heading into the fire. He'd been a detective for the Japanese police force for about a decade or two at least, having seen and gone through many things in his career. But the one thing he had the most experience with, being the very reason why he had been assigned to this particular case in the first place; was his expertise in dealing with vigilantism.
Particularly young ones like these three teenagers. It honestly made sense why they picked an old geezer like him to interrogate these particular vigilantes. After all, he'd been around to see all might first begin his hero career as the symbol of peace six years ago.
During a time where vigilantes and villains were practically swarming throughout the country. It was an era of chaos and conflict for the people at the time, and if it weren't for allmight stepping up to keep the darkness of society at bay Japan would be very different today. But Ezio could remember very well that despite there being some vigilantes who'd abuse their quirks for their warped beliefs of justice.
But they're also still being a couple of vigilantes that fought for what was truly right.
The ones that the hero system begrudgingly allowed to do their illegal actions, as long as they kept on the right path. Hell, one of those vigilantes would even go up in high places and become one of Japan's top ten pro heroes.
That being none other than Rumi usagiyama otherwise known as Mirko the rabbit hero. She had to be one of the loudest, energetic, and battle-hungry women he'd have ever met. Hell, the first time they had met, was during a literal fight against a mob of crazed villains.
He knew the girl had the potential for the hero's work and despite her illegal activities, had a good heart. and while he knew she'd go to high places one day, he never thought she'd eventually become the number seven hero of Japan. Yet it was still a welcomed surprise to the detective, showing the country that not all vigilantes were self-righteous thugs on the street. But some being good people who have the potential to be true heroes. Ezio could safely say that was a good day for hero society on that day, feeling proud for that girl making it so far.
Yet today was not such a day.
As right now, that very same woman was in one of these rooms along with the number three hero, from the nasty battle she and him had from these three teens. The hero public safety commission immediately knew the consequences of what would happen if word got out that some of their best heroes were beaten by a bunch of teenage vigilantes. And at the same time failed to properly stop a crisis that occurred from the battle.
This series of events would easily start a wildfire of bad publicity for hero society, as already a good chunk of the internet was swarming with the news of the commotion these kids caused last night. Blogs were already talking all about these kids, even going as far as to praise them for their courageous actions to save so many people from that collapsing building. Especially when a few videos leaked of those some kids stopping that group of robbers from yesterday, that alone expanded the phrasing for the teenage vigilantes.
Yet there was also the other spectrum in all of this, that criticized the incompetence of the heroes for not being able to handle a bunch of troublemaking kids. Overall it was a complete and utter shitshow right now. One that the government organization was doing everything they can to get under control. But had to act quickly or otherwise risk the public hero safety commission to become a primary target for a lot of the slander by the populace.
And that's why he's here right now. to help the commission fix this mess and get these three kids in line for their actions. Honestly, Ezio could tell the high-ups were desperate to clean this up if it meant asking for the aid of someone like him. As very few high-ups in hero society would ask an old man like him, one that was planning to retire in a few years, to be assigned to such a case like this.
'Well, this must be the room.' Eizo confirmed as he stood in front of the door, the room number being the exact one the desk lady had told him the two had been in since last night.
"Ah! There you are, I was expecting you." A man's voice called out. Eizo turned to see a doctor with the head of a cartoonish dinosaur walk towards him. "The officers told me you were coming to help with the investigation involving those vigilantes upstairs. My name is doctor moshi, I'm the man in fact who runs this medical center; a pleasure to meet you sir." The dinosaur doctor greeted the detective raising a hand for him to shake.
"Same here," the old detective replied while accepting the doctor's gesture as he shook the man's hand for a moment. "Names ezio tanuma, and I'm assuming this is where two of our guests are residing?"
"Indeed, Hawks and Mirko checked in along with those kids last night for their injuries. They were pretty ruffed up, but thankfully it was nothing too serious. But while they can leave tomorrow at the soonest They'll still need a week off at most to fully recover." Doctor moshi informed the veteran cop who slightly raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"Your serious?" The balding man questioned with the doctor's nod confirming his previous response. "Sheesh, just who the hell were they fighting? I mean these are just kids right?" Ezio questioned in curious concern.
"I had the same thoughts, but all I know is whoever those three kids are, they must have very powerful quirks if they managed to cause the number two and three pro heroes to be left in such a state." Moshi concluded while turning to the door in front of them.
"And that's what's gotten my head buzzing all day. Just how the hell did children like that come out of nowhere?" Ezio asked himself while rubbing his chin in a thinking manner.
"I don't know, but hopefully these two will help you shed light on that. So let's go ahead and ask them then, shall we?" The dinosaur man said to the detective who merely nodded in response. Thus the two men walked inside the room and were greeted to the sight of a recovering mirko and Hawks.
Ezio examined the sight before him and withheld a wince as he looked at the number two and three heroes in front of him.
The two pro heroes were just like the good doctor had told him, they looked pretty injured yet seemed to be recovering quickly despite their wounds.
To his left was Hawks was sitting upright on a hospital bed, who's only real injury seemed to be his left shoulder; now heavily bandaged from yesterday's battle wounds with one of the vigilantes. But what Ezio immediately noticed was the fact that Hawk's iconic red wings, were now reduced to tiny little red specks attached onto his back.
Meanwhile mirko seemed to have gotten the short end of this whole dilemma, with the girl easily being the more injured one here. Through small exposed peeks of her hospital clothes, her abdomen was heavily bandaged; along with her arms having a few small stitches on their bicep to shoulder area's. But what got Ezio to widen his eyes was that mirko's white rabbit ears seemed to have been bleeding but now seemed...sorta better.
'Shit rumi, looks like you bit off more than you could chew.' Ezio thought in stunned surprise, the man knowing full well that mirko was the kind of woman to get herself into the most dangerous situation for the thrill of it. Seeming to be the type of person who wanted to live her life to the fullest. Yet it also seemed the rabbit hero got more than she bargained for yesterday, if her injuries were any indication.
Honestly the doctor wasn't wrong one bit about either of them. These two definitely needed plenty of time to recover from their fight with those vigilantes. Hawks however seemed most likely to come back to duty in at least half the time, as besides his wings and shoulder seemed mostly fine. Rumi on the other hand DEFINITELY needed a week to recover.
Yet as he and the doctor walked in the two pro heroes turned their heads to see their new visitors enter the room. While the two pro heroes had already met the dinosaur headed doctor, the man in the dark jacket was a new face for them. Mirko however as she saw the man more closely, gasped before sitting up from the bed. Ignoring the pain from her bruises and blinked to make sure she wasn't seeing things.
"Holy shit, it can't be...is that you?" Mirko muttered, becoming too caught in stunned shock at the moment to speak more than she did.
"Oh hey there mirko, been a while ain't it?" Eizo smiled in amusement at the shocked rabbit hero, who simply sat there staring with wide eyes at the man a feet away from
Her. It was only seconds later she smirked before beginning to laugh, with Hawks staring at the scene with amused curiosity.
"I'll be damned, it's really you then," mirko said almost happily with a bright grin on her face. "How have you've been old geezer? Still waiting for the day you hang up your badge?"
"Please kid, I still got two more years in me, I ain't going anytime soon just yet." Eizo smirked at the old acquaintance.
"And after six years you come popping back like a freaking fungus."
"Oh please! Like you've got room to talk smack considering how we've even first met!" Eizo continuing to hold his smirk throughout their conversation.
"Hey! I'll have you know I was kicking ass even back then!"
"Oh I saw alright, after all, I was caught in the goddamn crossfire between you and a bunch of berserk villains."
"And I'm surprised you could still remember me being that badass. I'd always thought you'd end up in some senior citizen home or something." Mirko admitted.
"That would be a shame, then who'd be here to greet you after the battle you and Hawks had last night?" Eizo cheekily replied to the bunny girl.
"Someone else that's for sure."
"Ouch, you really know how to hurt this old mans heart." Ezio said in a fake sad tone.
"Sorry to interrupt, but I didn't know you two knew each other." Hawks butted in after watching the two acquaintances for a minute make up for lost time.
"Oh sorry about that Hawks, but yeah me and him go way back. We met about six years ago, during a major villain fighting ring called the underground masquerade. You heard about it?"
Hawks scratched his head for a moment until the memory hit him like a freight train, snapping his fingers in realization. "Oh yeah! I read about that, it was pretty big mess back then. A hundred Villains in the fight club went berserk in streets of Osaka; attacking anything or anyone they could see in sight. The situation gotten so bad that allmight himself had to intervene and stop the rampaging villains. After allmight dealt with them, the illegal fighting ring was shut down and all participants involved were arrested." Hawks summarized the report he read a year back, remembering a good chunk of what was recorded from the old case.
"Yeah thats pretty much it." Eizo confirmed the mans explanation.
"So where've ya been? I know it's been years, but I at least would have gotten some word from you." Mirko asked the old detective.
At the moment Eizo's pleasant expression turned somber at mirko's question. Causing the girl to raise her eyebrow in confusion at the mans the sudden mood shift.
"Well when your nearly sent at deaths door you tend to vanish from the world for a while." Ezio sadly said, causing mirko's eyes to widen in shock.
"What?" Mirko asked in stunned shock, just what the hell did he mean by that?
Ezio took out his hands from his pockets, and went over to remove one of his gloves on his hands and revealed a silver robotic, metal hand instead of a normal human one.
"As you can see, you weren't the only one who's had their fair share of close calls over the years." Ezio gestures to his cybernetic arm allowing the shocked rabbit woman to have a good view of the mans prosthetic limb.
"H-holy shit, Eizo...the hell happened?" Mirko quietly asked the old detective, who deeply sighed before giving the old friend her much needed answer.
"After the underground masquerade ring was busted, I had managed to find a connection between that case and a surge of Villains that had been occurring in naruhata. And as if I was in some freakin cop film I dug too deep, and ended up on the crosshairs of a major villain who'd been behind it all. And after I put my evidence together, the man had sent an assassin to silence me in...'Explosive fashion' to prevent me and my evidence from seeing the light of day." Ezio explained his story in melancholic detail, with mirko and Hawks intently listening to every world spoken.
"But as you can see the guy screwed up his job. Somehow by some miracle from god, I survived the explosion the villain fired at me; Yet not unscathed. Not only was the evidence connecting the two cases destroyed, but I needed some...extensive medical treatment so to speak." Ezio alluded to as he rolled up the sleeves of his jacket to reveal that his entire left arm was now entirely replaced by mechanical prosthetics. And from where the stump connected to the robotic parts, were numerous healed burn scars on his remainder of arm. He even pulled up the bottom helms of his pants to show even most of his lower legs being now cybernetically replaced as well.
Mirko said nothing only continued staring with wide eyes and her jaw hung open in shock at her old friends damaged condition.
"The doctors said even though I lost three of my limbs, I was still beyond lucky that day. If I hadn't leapt from the blast in time with my quirk at the last minute, I'd be nothing more than a charred corpse. But even like this, I was still able to partially rebuild some of the evidence, to at least permanently shutdown the villain operations being committed in naruhata." Ezio finished his tale, letting everything sink into the minds of those who listened. Mirko especially so as she simply continued to stare at the man in stunned silence. She never really did pay attention to the guy after that day,
"Eizo...l-I'm so sorry for what happened, you didn't deserve any of that. But please, just tell me the fuckers who did this got what was coming to them." Mirko told the old detective in righteous fury. She may have only known the guy once, but the rabbit hero knew a good cop like him shouldn't have suffered from something like that.
"Eh, sorta mirko," Eizo shrugged as he unrolled his coats sleeves and put his gloves back on. "The villain who tried to assassinate me was tracked down and later taken down by a...old friend of mine, who already had his own beef with the bastard. And soon enough was locked up into Tartarus for the rest of his days. As for the mastermind himself, I have no idea what to him. He disappeared in a few months after his subordinates defeat and hasn't been seen since; I assume he's either dead or still hiding in the shadows of the criminal underworld." Ezio told the pro hero, but made sure to lie during the second half of his explanation.
Having to keep the truth of "him" hidden from the number 3 and 2 pro heroes. Ezio knew very well of masterminds true identity of those cases years ago. That being none other than all for one, symbol of evil himself; who orchestrated those villain outbreaks for his own agenda of furthering his own power.
After the incident had occurred his partner naomasa had decided to come clean and tell him everything about all for one and the secret of allmights true power.
At first ezio was beyond shocked by what he had heard at the time, unable to believe that he had unknowingly gotten himself entangled in such a clash between two pillars such as them. At first he was a bit peeved about being kept in the dark about something like this, but eventually forgave naomasa knowing he would probably do the same in his shoes.
Yet all the while during those days, with the new knowledge given to him, Ezio hoped and prayed that allmight would finally rid the world of such an evil. Thankfully his wish came true, as he had heard from his fellow partner naomasa during his recovery; that allmight had finally taken down the ancient villain once and for all in the same year.
Combining the fact that his failed assassin had been taken down by the hero turned vigilante o'clock had completely satisfied him despite the cost it came for himself. So long as the evil of that man was finally over he could rest easy and not fret over the pain caused all those years ago.
"Ever since then I've been taking it easy, hell I even got offered a promotion but I turned it down. As flattering as it was, my place was in the detective position, it just felt right to me you know? And besides I wasn't gonna get scared out of the action cause of some asshole bombing the shit out of me. And since then I've been only taking cases involving vigilantism or villain gangs starting up. In fact The former of which is why I'm here." Ezio reminded the two pro heroes, the mention of which caused mirko to quietly growl in irritation.
"Yeah, as nice as it's been hearing your story ezio, I think it's about time we finally address the elephant in the room." Hawks addressed to the veteran cop who turned to the number two hero and nodded in response.
"Agreed, so how about you start by telling me everything you and mirko know." Ezio told the number two hero, his relaxed mood all but gone and replaced by a more serious one in its place. "I was hoping to get some background information, and see if either one of you could give me anything on those three before i interrogate them."
"Really? I had assumed you'd watched the recordings given to you." Hawks asked in curiosity, as before the public hero safety commission had begun deleting the few videos that recorded the incident before they got onto internet; they managed to save copies for ezio and the commission members to examine personally.
"I did, and I gotta say in all my years I've never seen quirks like those before. Nor have I seen kids with the brains to use them like they did." Ezio noted, having witness every bit of those few pieces of footage before he came to central hospital. It wasn't much to be honest as it only really showed him the vigilantes towards the end off their battles. yet it still gave him a semi-decent summary of what he was dealing with. He was already told these kids were peculiar from most vigilantes. But ezio could safely say without a doubt after seeing all those videos, that what he was told didn't do any justice.
The video recordings of that girls speed and sheer acrobatic skill, the albino boy transforming into a literal scythe with energy based abilities, and that pink haired boy who could create various constructs and weapons out of his body. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen in his career before.
While he has met plenty of villains and vigilantes with dangerous and powerful quirks before; these kids took that scale to whole a new level. And to top it off they had more than enough skill adding on to their quirks raw power. This combination of quirks and fighting abilities had made them probably the most powerful vigilante team he'd ever encountered before in his years doing his job.
And considering what he's seen in that time, that's saying a lot.
Yet it was also something he's finding very suspicious at how such talented vigilantes came out of the blue today. These factors had already begun painting a picture for ezio to use as a base for his analysis. One that told him these kids were definitely more than just some young vigilantes causing trouble.
It was obvious the teens came from somewhere in America, if what he was told of them being foreigners was true. But It still didn't explain why kids with such powerful quirks and expert skill in both using them slipped under the radar completely. Plus the fact that those kids had managed to take on the number 7 and number 3 heroes without much effort rang many alarms in his inquisitive head. That kind of fighting prowess and mastery over their quirks needed to be honed through years of experience and training.
So they had to be from some kind of hero school, it was some of the only places in the world that could allow for teens like them to be able to have the training and resources they needed for the hero business. So that must have meant they were enrolled in a hero school of some kind in the United States. There's just no way vigilantes from the streets could have that level of finesse and skill without having some kind of professional training. But if that was the case, how come nobody has heard of them?
Even if they're from another country, surely some information about them would have made it to as Japan. After all america had their own version of the U.A sports festival, and many people in Japan had still watched those play out. And while he never really cared for the "American ripoff" he would have definitely still known about three kids of this caliber training to be heroes in the country. Yet this was the first time he'd along with everyone else had ever seen them before. so while did believe they came from America, it was very unlikely these were kids were from a hero school over there.
Or at least from a major or popular one that is. As it was still common for some vigilantes to be hero students from lesser knowing hero schools; or even ordinary schools in general who just didn't like how the system worked.
As a result they would...go rogue so to speak.
Eventually seeking out resources to improve their new "hobby" such as black market equipment like illegal support gear or quirk enhancement drugs. But if they really were lacking in quirk power or other area's in themselves would go to people...someone that would give them the power boost they desired...For a price.
With these ideas being put together, The cybernetic detective was already beginning to build a theory. One that could potentially explain all of this...
Yet if he was right, it could very well spell bad news for hero society as a whole.
'The last thing anybody needs is for him to still be alive.' Ezio thought in dread, hoping that he was wrong. But first, he needed to confirm certain details before coming to conclusions. Thus the reason why he was here with mirko and Hawks. What better way to get the best information, than from the two people who encountered, and fought with the teenage vigilantes. If he could just get an idea of what kind of people these kids were, then it might make things much easier to resolve this situation.
"Alright guys, I'm gonna need you to tell me as much as you know about these kids. Specifically about their characters, and the kind of people we're dealing with here." Ezio requested the two pro heroes who nodded in agreement with the old detective, prepared to answer any of his questions.
"Well we weren't exactly having freakin tea party Ezio, kinda hard to get to know the punks when your throwing fists at em." Mirko snarked before her face suddenly looked as if she was in deep thought before turning to the two men before her. "Actually...I think I got some idea of the kind of woman that girl is, and her relationship with that albino kid."
"Whaddya got?" Ezio asked as he got out his pencil and notepad and readied himself to write everything Mirko had to say.
"For starters, that girl has one helluva spirit. She's no doubt the kind of girl who doesn't take anyone's shit. And isn't afraid to kick someone's asses when push comes to shove; if our little fisticuffs were any indication of that." Mirko said with a faint smirk, having earned the respect for the girl having such a character trait. "Secondly she and that scythe boy seem to have been doing this for a while now."
"Doing what for a while?" Ezio repeated with a raised eyebrow as he looked up from his notepad.
"Their little partnership ezio. When that boy transformed into that scythe, the girl was wielding him with a master level of skill. Every slash, every twirl, every strike was precise and steady, not the sloppy work of a newbie. And while I couldn't get much from that albino boy I could tell he was the same. It's as if the two have been fighting together for years."
"Well If that's the case then I guess those two must have a good relationship with each other." Ezio noted with mirko nodding in agreement with the mans assumption.
"Oh yeah, Its a close bond that's for sure. I'm not sure if it's romantic, but their best friends at the very least." Mirko clarified to the inquisitive detective.
"What makes you say that?" the rabbit hero then sighed before answering his question.
"Cause when that scythe kid accidentally caused that building to collapse, he was practically drowning in guilt. He didn't mean to do it, but it didn't help stop the shame from eating away at him. At least until his partner gave him a pep talk of some kind. I really couldn't tell you what they were saying, considering my ears got blasted with that fucking attack. But the girl must've said the right things, as she got him to snap out of it like it was nothing; and soon afterward's they worked together to save those civilians." Mirko explained to the detective and number two pro heroes, who looked at her with curiosity and minor impressment at the statement.
"Well that clearly proves detective that these kids aren't villains. They could've used that as a chance to escape, but instead charged into danger to save lives. that alone is a testament to the goodness in their hearts." Hawks concluded to the detective who looked at first uncertain but relented with a more confident expression on his face.
"Same here, I admit I'm still suspicious, but I can't deny what you said wasn't right." Ezio admitted having already confirmed at this point that these kids are not villains. But an idea soon popped up into his head about the girl and how she got her friends spirits back up so quickly. "Maybe that's some sort of feature of her quirk. We still don't really have a definitive idea to what is, so it could be an emitter that induces faith or something." Ezio thought up, but Hawks shook his head in response of the idea.
"I'm not so sure about that," Hawks countered. "That sounds more like the work of natural charisma and their friendship rather than the effects of an actual quirk."
"Indeed, you'd be shocked by how far words can sway a person from even the deepest brink of despair." The doctor inputted in their conversation.
"Yeah your probably right, and besides, if she does have some kind of quirk it most likely has to with her speed and athleticism if those videos told me anything." Ezio accepted as he already began filing this information in his notepad. Already he was making decent progress, with two out of the three kids.
'Alright, so far that ash blonde girl seems to be a firecracker of a kid, yet at the same time, is caring to her friends if what mirko said was true. She also seems to possess some decent fighting skills if mirko said they had a brawl. And judging by the way she said it, she must've done well in it; And that is no small feat. Meanwhile that boy seems to be a close friend if she's had experience using his scythe form like that. Mmmm...but what else am I missing?' Ezio began thinking over trying to see anything he was missing before moving on. Suddenly his eyes widened in realization of something he had almost forgot.
"Oh yeah that reminds me, did those two display any other abilities those videos didn't show?" Ezio asked mirko who was silent for a few seconds before she frowned as she remembered a certain detail that pissed her off to no end.
"The girl no, but that boy is a different story. Not only could he could generate scythe blades from his body, but apparently he can also pop out fucking keyboards." Mirko irritably replied causing ezio's eyes to slightly widen in surprise.
"Wait what? I thought the kids quirks was all about blades and scythe morphing?"
"Well you thought wrong, cause apparently when he plays those keyboards, he creates literal fucking music notes that act like sonic bombs." Mirko growled out to a even more surprised ezio who stopped writing to look at mirko for a moment. Keyboards that create sonic bombs? That didn't sound even remotely related to what he's heard these past few minutes about the kids quirk. The blades and scythe form were already insane as it is, but sonic keyboards too?
"Trust me, I reacted the same way when I heard it out of mirko's mouth." Hawks told the baffled detective. "To be honest I'm still having a hard time believing it, but mirko's injured ears and that buildings destruction are proof this being true."
"But...that doesn't make any sense. Wait a minute..." ezio paused before looking up in realization. "Is that how-"
"Yep, that's how the little shit got the better of me." Mirko cut off as she gestured to her
Bandaged rabbit ears. "And how that building collapse. Keep in mind, that he didn't mean for that to happen; otherwise he wouldn't felt so guilty for it, like I said earlier. He just didn't seem to have much control over that part of his quirk and as result lost control."
"Yeah but it still doesn't excuse the situation he and that girl started last night. They got very lucky that no one got seriously hurt or god forbid died from their mistake." Hawks replied to mirko and Eizo, with the latter nodding in agreement at the winged mans words.
"But getting back to the topic at hand, how the hell could he have a quirk that lets him both partially and fully turn his body, into both scythes and...sonic keyboards?" Ezio said with uncertain confusion at the last part. As much as he'd gotten used to seeing so many bizarre features quirks would give people, he couldn't help but feel baffled by this. While the scythe morphing coupled with a energy boosting feature he could get by(albeit still being very suspicious).
This out of nowhere new ability, to create sonic bomb producing keyboards when played was downright ridiculous. something was very amiss here. There's is no feasible way for a person's quirk to have such extremely different abilities in one quirk.
Unless...
"I don't know, but as crazy as it sounds, it almost like he has multiple quirks or something." Mirko suggested to the confused ezio but the doctor standing nearby the whole time shook his head.
"That's impossible mrs.rumi, our generations worth of studies into quirks have clearly shown that while it is possible to have quirks with two different abilities; such as controlling multiple elements. It's genetically impossible to be born with multiple different quirks." The dinosaur head doctor calmly shot down. "Most likely it must be some kind of transformation quirk, that allows him to protrude or become various objects with different properties." The doctor theorized and while the two pro heroes seemed to agree with the doctors theory, none of the rooms occupants noticed, that the cybernetic detective's eyes had narrowed at the doctors statement. As unlike everyone else, he was the only person here who knew that what the doctor just claimed wasn't impossible anymore.
'Sorry to break it to ya doc, but its very possible...' ezio grimly thought as the image of...him flashed through his head. He really didn't want to believe it, but it wasn't looking very good. There was just no other explanation as to how this kid could have two very different powers like those in one quirk. It was already a major piece of evidence to support his theory, that these three kids could very well be connected to the symbol of evil himself.
Yet a part of him was yelling at him that couldn't be true. Allmight had taken down the villain years ago, he was told by his friend and sir nighteye himself. So how is that man still alive? Did the bastard somehow survive the one for all users fatal blow and go into hiding afterwards? It wasn't uncommon for villains to hide in the recesses of society, waiting to strike again, so why wouldn't the worst villain of them all not do the same? It still seemed like a possibility, even with how low it was actually from being true.
'But if he really hasn't kicked the bucket, why the hell did he choose to reveal himself like this? And why would these kids get caught up in all this?' Ezio questioned trying to understand what connection could these teens have to Japan's ancient villain. From what he's heard so far from mirko, these kids seemed to have good hearts. Sure they royally screwed up, but they seemed to have the kind of spirits a true hero would possess within them.
But how could they know of him?
Did they hear some rumors from the criminal underworld?
And if they did hear about him, why even involve themselves with the likes of that villain if he was still kicking?
Was it because they're quirks were either too weak or impractical to become heroes?
Were they just desperate to be heroes, and made a deal with the devil to achieve those dreams?
For the girl maybe the former, as so far besides that abnormal level of speed and agility; she seemed almost quirkless. Or maybe she was actually quirkless, before the girl and her friends were given upgrades so to speak. But even if that man was alive and working in the shadows, why on earth would he give a bunch of kids some of his quirks? The most likely option was that he was trying to create more followers who would serve him.
And what better way than making crossroad deals for power with bright eyed kids who seeking to accomplish their dreams. It made sense to the veteran detective, as maybe he let them run around with this power to see if they were successful enough for his twisted machinations.
Yet Ezio knew something was off about this. It didn't seem right for someone known for being so tactically brilliant to do something so abrupt as this. While ezio thankfully never saw the man himself, or got too involved since the underground masquerade raid, he did get a sort of understanding of how he did things. The villainous man preferred subtly and working in the shadows like most high tier villains do, yet patient enough to wait for the time to strike. But this was too...random and out of place, especially with the kind of people involved.
'If he really is alive, why the hell would he use a bunch of children? Was it for some kind of experiment involving those quirks? I'd get that, but what's got me scratching my head, is the mess they caused. There's no way he'd let any evidence of his involvement be splattered like this. But to be fair, this wouldn't be first time he'd use this kind of mayhem to his advantage.' Having remembered how the underground masquerade was a prime example, of him not being afraid to use controlled chaos to suit his agenda.
Yet back then, the symbol of evil would make sure to prevent any traces of his manipulations being left behind. This incident was clearly not the case. With it almost exploding in japans media, and if not for the public hero safety commission stepping in to cover it up, would have made the headlines of every practically every news article. Even if the major signs of his involvement were here, it lacked that organized and calculated precision the symbol of evil was always linked with.
'It doesn't make any sense. People with seemingly multiple quirks, the chaos in the city, the fight with two top ten pro heroes. These should be signs of his work, yet with kids being the culprits, helping to save those people; it doesn't feel right up that alley. This whole thing honestly feels more like a series of random events than a shadowy plot.' Ezio thought it over beginning to possibly consider, as ridiculous as it sounds, that maybe these kids weren't what he was accusing them of. For all he knew, these kids could really just have some kind of unknown or overly complex quirks never seen before.
He'd admit their quirks and their ability to go toe to toe with the number 7 and 3 heroes were very suspicious; but they didn't seem to be bad people. So far despite their fuck up, he's heard nothing but good hearted nature from these vigilantes.
After all no villain would ever feel guilt towards their actions nor risk themselves to save civilian lives caught in the crossfire. So despite the the boulder of evidence pointing to his theory being correct. He couldn't just let his paranoia get the better of him and make these kinds of serious assumptions. After all he hasn't even gotten a chance to hear anything about the third suspect in this mess.
"Alright, I think it's best if we move on to the third member of their little group. That being the pink haired kid in the robe with the sword and black vines." Ezio sighed out as he flipped for a new clean page of his notepad for the last suspect. "So did any of you get a chance to interact with him and see what he's like?" Mirko in response merely shrugged her shoulders to ezio's question, while having a look of cluelessness being worn on her face.
"Sorry, but I got nothing on that kid." Mirko said in total honesty. "I only really saw him in action using his quirk to save a little girl from rubble before he was out like a light. Buuuut, bird boy here would probably be able to tell you what you need to know; considering he fought the guy." Mirko pointed towards Hawks with a cheeky grin on her face,
"Yeah, and that was only because you left me to deal with him." Hawks reminded the brash bunny girl. Completely unamused by her attempt to wave off the face she rushed into the fight, leaving him to fight with that third vigilante all on his own. And by the end of it, left his wings being reduced to little bits and nice assortment of slash wounds.
Needless to say he was more than justified in feeling a bit annoyed at mirko's antics.
"God lighten up Hawks, your just peeved because your wings got chopped down by a kid. And besides I don't what your fussing about, unlike you I fought two of those vigilantes. One of who blasted me with a sonic bomb, shaped like a fucking music note into my ears; so don't act like your the victim or something." Mirko grumbled, not believing for a second that Hawks, the number 3 hero of freakin Japan, had a hard time dealing with some emo looking teenager.
"Let me assure you right now, fighting that boy was anything but a picnic either." Hawks answered back to mirko, who rolled her eyes at the blonde mans response. "To put it bluntly It felt less like I was fighting a single teenage vigilante, and more like I was fighting a one man army."
"Really now?" Ezio muttered with a surprised look in his eyes. His voice dripping with intrigue, at the number two heroes short description of his fight with that particular vigilante. As Hawks didn't seem to be exaggerating about his scuffle last night. His bandaged shoulder already being a decent piece proof to justify his claims. Mirko however didn't looked convinced for a second as she scoffed at what the winged hero just said.
"Oh please, he couldn't have been that strong. I Admit yeah that giant cone he launched was something else, that's for sure. But that was probably the limit of what his quirk could do. Not my fault you let him get the better of you with some cheap tricks-"
"Mirko, Trust me when I say that kid is MUCH more formidable than you realize." Hawks said in a dead serious tone, causing mirko to stop smirking and merely look at him in stunned surprise. "Where do you think I got these injuries from? Being careless? Not chance. All of these cuts you see here, including the stitched gash on my shoulder, was from him and him alone. Had you fought him instead me, you would've ended up in the same, if not a worse state than I am right now." Hawks finished with a stern look in his face, without a hint of the usual causal and laid back behavior he usually has most of the time. Thus leaving a flabbergasted mirko to just stare at Hawks with wide eyes at what her colleague just claimed about a single vigilante.
Was he actually being serious here?
Did he, the number three hero of the fucking country, really have such a deadly experience with this kid? At first mirko persisted this to be an exaggerated account nothing more. But Mirko could now see clearly that he wasn't lying or joking around, he was speaking nothing but the honest to god truth about this one boy he fought. She'd seen Hawks fight before many times, despite the fact she didn't like relying on others to do her job; she would still help in certain circumstances when it was needed. And would sometimes, more than she'd admit, join with winged hero a few times should the need arise.
During those times where she worked with Hawks, had seen the man in action, she'd seen him take down villains before they could even react to him in time. His feathers acting like a swarm of psychic daggers that only the most skilled fighters with the right quirk could go up against. Even then those poor bastards didn't last long. At best they'd be able to put up a fight for 10-15 minutes before being swiftly defeated by the pro hero. So as much as she didn't like admitting it out of pride or the fact he ranked much higher than her, Mirko could safely say that Hawks more than earned his spot as the third best hero in Japan.
So for that same man to suddenly say he got his ass kicked, by some punk in a goddamn robe only made the rabbit heroine ask herself one question.
Just who the hell did Hawks fight?
She didn't know why, but a good part of her wanted to hear the answer.
"Care to elaborate on that Hawks?" Ezio asked already getting his pen and notepad ready to write everything Hawks would say word for word. Hawks turned his head towards the detective and a few seconds began his statement.
"In my personal opinion, that boy out of all three of them, is by far the most dangerous." Hawks said without missing a beat. "He is not only a proficient fighter, but unlike them, he's able to utilize the raw power of what quite possibly the most versatile quirk I've ever seen in my life." Hawks stated candidly, with everything he said causing all the people in the room to just keep looking at him with astonished stares.
"Are you being serious here Hawks? Just what kind of quirk does this kid have that's got you shaking in your freakin boots?" Mirko asked in disbelief, not really believing Hawks claims of this kid being so "dangerous" as bird boy was rambling on about.
"I wouldn't have put it that way, but I'm on the same page here, what makes you think this guy's quirk is so powerful?" Ezio asked calmly yet his surprised features were still fairly visible. Hawks merely closed his eyes and sighed deeply, before looking back at the cybernetic detective and the two other people in the room for a moment; until he opened his mouth and spoke once more.
"Well detective as you've seen from the video, the kids able to materialize many constructs out of his body. Such as growing wings to fly, and projectiles like that giant cone he used to destroy a falling piece of rubble. But he can do much more than that. When I fought him last night, he was able to create three different swords to attack me with. Swords mind you, that were sharp to destroy my hardened feathers with a few slashes. But he also popped out of his back two extra arms; allowing him to wield three of those swords at.once." Hawks answered in detail, taking a minute to look at the very surprised faces of the three people in the room before mirko after shaking off her surprise spoke up.
"Okay...that's pretty badass, but so what if the kid can pull a rip-off Zoro trick from one piece, it's not like you've never fought armed assholes with extra limbs before." Mirko brashly retorted still refusing to believe this single kid was so big and scary as Hawks was making him out to be.
"Yeah, but unlike simple street thugs, this kid knew how to use all those swords in a fight. Every strike, every slash, every thrust had such expert proficiency to them. Not only that, but his fighting style was just...insane. The best way I could describe it was like fighting a robot set into overdrive. His attacks seemed almost basic, but with the intense and erratic speed he swung all his blades, it made even someone like me feel overwhelmed." Hawks thoroughly explained to both the detective and mirko, who were not at all eased by what the blonde hero had just said.
Mirko didn't want to believe him, she honestly just thought Hawks got pulled a fast one as she did with the other vigilantes. But even then, she knew it is very hard to catch someone as fast and smart as Hawks off guard. And with his quirks many feathers, basically acting as an extra set of eyes and ears for him, only made that possibility even less likely to have happened. So she may very well have to accept the possibility that Hawks was telling the truth about this vigilante.
And this Honestly made her begin to regret not taking him on instead. As right now, she was very, very intrigued by this kid.
Ezio meanwhile after recovering from his surprise, had overall held mixed feelings towards this new piece of information. On one hand, he was honestly impressed by the combative capabilities of this boy's quirk, as well as having the adept knowledge to utilize the many weapons he made from his quirk. But on the other hand, he was very concerned about what he just heard about this boy.
If what Hawks was saying is true, then that would mean this vigilante not only had a quirk with a lot practical potential for combat. But was apparently an expert in simultaneously using, most of those weapons he made with his quirk. At this point, Ezio was quickly beginning to agree with Hawks in his earlier assertions.
This boy now already seemed to be a dangerous cocktail of raw power and combative skill. As for him to be able to make one of the best pro heroes in Japan to take him this seriously after one fight; spoke volumes of just how powerful he truly was.
'Okay so this particular kid seems to have a strong weapon/arm creation quirk coupled with possessing expert swordsmanship abilities. I'm Not gonna lie that's quite a combo there. Yet his powers just like that albino kid seems...different.' Already the same pattern in that other boy was being seen here. This third vigilante having abilities in his quirk, that almost felt like he had two different quirks altogether. 'And this only adds more proof to support my theory. Goddamnit I don't want to believe it, I really don't, but maybe if I just dug deeper I can be proven wrong...I hope.' Ezio prayed now for anything that would disprove his theory being true. And the only way he could find that counter-evidence was by delving deeper into this kid and his "unique" quirk. Thus he kept going with his questions and see what else he could pry from Hawks.
"Okay look, I could get by him having some kind of weapon creation quirk, but also one that allows for arm generation too? Gotta say that is one helluva quirk to possess, especially for combat uses." Ezio thought aloud before turning back to the blonde hero. "But while creating swords and extra arms to wield them with is impressive, I can't see that being 'the most versatile quirk' ever known Hawks." Ezio remarked, which seemed to be the same thing the doctor and mirko were thinking of their skeptical expressions were any indication.
"Well, that's because you haven't everything I have to say yet, detective." The number two hero told the detective before getting back on track. "Remember when I said his quirk allows him to create constructs?" Hawks asked the people in the room, with all three simultaneously nodding in response to hawks' question. "Well, He can create much more than some swords and a pair of arms."
"Really, Like what?" Mirko asked while tilting her head slightly in curiosity.
"Where do I even start?" Thus for the next 10 minutes, Hawks then told them everything that occurred in his battle with the vigilante, including to mention the report from death arms. From the numerous weapons, constructs and powers he displayed in their fight, the psychotic episode he broke into, along with his almost heartwarming loyalty to his friends. Leaving Mirko, doctor Moshi, and Ezio with wide eyes and slack open mouths. And after what seemed like an eternity of stunned silence, mirko spoke.
"Holy shit..that pink brat can do all THAT!?" Mirko shouted in shock, unable to fully comprehend everything she had just heard now. "How the hell can some pink-haired brat in a fucking robe, do ALL that crazy shit with his goddamn blood!?" Mirko questioned in her usual loud and brash, yet also now with baffled shock mixed in as well.
"A single boy with a sentient blood-based quirk that grants him enhanced durability, the ability to create and utilize various weapons and limbs, giant rose thorns, energy blasts; and generate sonic screams too? That...that's simply impossible. There's no feasible way a quirk revolving around simple blood could give him so many different powers at once." Moshi thought over aloud in shock, while a slightly pale-looking Ezio turned his head upwards to look at Hawks with a serious glance.
"Are you certain? Did his quirk truly come only from his black blood?" Ezio asked in an almost grave tone. "Your truly certain that it wasn't simply apart of his quirk or anything?" Hawks however shook his head.
"No, at first I thought the same thing, but I saw him bleeding black blood and a few seconds later those needles came out. I'm certain of it, his quirk factor is that black blood." Hawks reaffirmed his claim, causing Ezio to slightly grip his notepad tighter than before. Something Hawks took note of, but for now, brushed it off. "I know it sounds crazy, but that's the truth. Somehow his blood is the source of all that power in his quirk." However, the doctor in the room walked a few steps forward and with a look of apprehension on his face, turned to Hawks.
"Actually...you and ezio aren't completely wrong Hawks." Moshi admitted causing everyone in the room to instantly turn their heads towards the dinosaur-headed man in confused shock.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Mirko asked with a perplexed expression, already demanding an answer for what this man meant, the doctor sighing before giving his explanation.
"You see when we undressed the boy into a hospital gown, some forensic officers who came here last night took it and analyzed the boy's robe. They took a tiny sample of the robe, yet immediately after the tear was made, the robe began to repair itself and close off the hole." Moshi told ezio and the two pro heroes in front of them, all of who tried and failed to keep their stunned surprise from being visible.
"Your shitting me." Mirko muttered in astonishment, never expecting to be shocked so many times in a single day. But then when you hear that a vigilante has a regenerating costume, who could blame her.
"You can't be serious, what kind of vigilante costume can repair itself?" Ezio said in confused surprise, as if what he heard about this boy and his arsenal of powers and potential psychopathy wasn't bad enough. Apparently he also had a hero costume with self repairing properties.
"That's exactly what we and the forensics team wanted to know, As they soon after began to extensively examine the 'fabric'. And when they had put it under a microscope, what they found was...disturbing, to say the least." Moshi grimaced, already giving the two pro heroes and detective a bad feeling for what was about to come out of his mouth.
"Well, whatcha find out?" Hawks replied as the doctor gave the number two hero a serious expression.
"Apparently the cloths threads were in fact heavily laced, almost merged really, with an unknown organic substance. After further analysis of the material, it was quickly revealed to be none other than...black blood cells." Moshi revealed to them, as their shocked reactions once again rose back up.
"What the fuck!?" Mirko shouted in shocked disgust. As if what she hadn't heard was enough, she now learned that this boy apparently has been wearing own his fucking blood this whole time...ugh, gross.
"The hell...what kind of vigilante costume is that?" Hawks muttered in utter shock, not expecting to have been right like this. The reason he first thought his costume was apart of his quirk, was noticing how the swords, thorns, and limbs all emerged almost like it was apart of his own body. And while he was technically correct, he never expected to be right in all the wrong ways. To actually wear a suit full of your actual blood...he wouldn't deny its efficiency for blood quirk users like Vlad king, but it was still creepy nonetheless.
Ezio however was more tamed in his reaction, yet even so, was still all the more disturbed by what everything that was being said about this teenage vigilante.
"I've heard of some hero costumes being made with materials that revolves around the quirks of their users, but not like this. Hell I don't think even I-island would make something like that." Ezio said to himself, however it was loud enough for the doctor to hear as he quickly replied to the detective's musings.
"Indeed, but putting aside the more morbid design, I can make a pretty decent guess on the purpose for this 'blood fabric' so to speak. My best hypothesis is that with with his blood merged into the robe, it acts as a sort of medium that allows for the boy to seamlessly generate constructs, such as those arms and wings throughout the robe without damaging it. I must say it's quite a brilliant despite the more disturbing details of its structure." Moshi said with intrigue practically dripping from his voice while stroking his chin in a thinking manner.
"But it still doesn't explain how the kid got something like that in his possession. I mean, who even made that for him?" Mirko questioned only for Hawks to immediately give his answer.
"I think we both know the only places in the world that can make hero costumes customized for people's quirks like that are hero schools. Which only cements the fact that these kids are, or at least were, in a hero school in America." Hawks deducted as he began trying to put the pieces together behind this whole predicament. Hawks deduced that these kids must've been American hero students that had trained for a few years now before today. Only to have recently gone rogue and for some reason travel to Japan to most likely start their illegal activities as vigilantes.
"Well At this point I'm pretty sure it's the latter for the pink kid, considering robe boy has more than a couple of screws loose in his noggin." Mirko pointed out while making the universal sign for "crazy" with her hand. With Hawks immediately grimacing by the heroines blunt words. As much as the number three hero wanted to refute that claim, the sad truth was that he couldn't. At least but fully. He couldn't refute what he saw last night, that kid was deranged to some extent.
Yet even so he managed to control himself and not go fully nuts when he was reminded of one of his friends. That easily showed him that the kid greatly cared for his friend's well-being, an immediate sign that this kid wasn't a true villain.
"He may not be mentally well, but I'm telling you Mirko, I have a feeling the kid isn't a bad person at heart." Hawks said honestly yet Mirko merely scoffed at the pro hero's attempts at defending the vigilante.
"Really Hawks? You literally told us barely ten minutes ago, how the guy was slashing away at you with a crazy-ass grin on his face; while giggling like a guy smoking on laughing gas." Mirko sharply retorted with s sarcasric tone, not convinced even for a second by the winged man's words. "It's pretty damn hard to not see him as a full-on psycho, the same goes for anyone else who hears that." Hawks nonetheless didn't seem too pleased by the rabbit heroines' words, as while her line of thinking is justifiable, he knew that it was more complicated than that.
"Rumi I know where you're going with this, and I'm telling you right now, that's not the way we should handle this." Hawks told mirko with a disapproving expression. "While normally someone with an unstable mind like him would end up being sent to juvenile hall or even Tartarus. He doesn't even qualify for nearly half of those reasons. The boy isn't some sick degenerate Rumi, he's just mentally ill. The kid doesn't need to be locked up in a cell, he simply needs some professional help before he hurts anyone."
At first, Mirko looked like she was about to snark something back at Hawks but soon stopped herself. Mirko for a moment looked down at her bedsheet for a moment before releasing a sigh and looked back up at Hawks, with much to his great surprise an almost sympathetic expression. Something very rare to see in someone like Mirko.
"Listen, I don't fully understand why your so persistent in defending this vigilante, but I can at least tell one of the reasons; is because you don't want to see someone that young have their life ruined before it even started. And honestly, a part of me feels the same way about this. After all, he went out of his way to save that little girl from falling debris, so maybe the guy really isn't a full-on psycho." Mirko spoke in a surprisingly calm voice, but soon enough her face shifted into a bit more serious face.
"But in the end you and I both know that kid is still a danger to himself and others. With an insane quirk like that combined with his ill psyche, that boy is practically a ticking time bomb. He needs to be detained before some serious shit happens and we're too late to stop it." Mirko sternly told the number two hero who merely continued to look astonished at the Amazonian woman's change of tone. Not at all expecting someone loud mouthed and carefree as mirko to act so mature about this.
"What?" Mirko asked with a raised eyebrow." The hell are you gawking at?"
That seemed to be enough to shake Hawks out of his stupor, as he blinked a few times before replying. "Nothing, it's just that wasn't expecting you to act so...reasonable. Usually you so dead-set towards fighting I'd figure you'd just be upset you didn't get a chance to pummel the guy and lock him up yourself."
Mirko only could make a bafflement sound for a few moments, before annoyed anger set in with a vein soon popping on her forehead as she regained her ability to speak again. "Are you fucking serious!? Just because I love kicking villain ass doesn't mean I'm some battle hungry brute!" Mirko heatedly rebuked with her rabbit ears shot up in peeved anger, as the rabbit hero already was feeling the need to bash some dumbass's head in.
"Hey, hey I was just saying! No need to go nuts on me, I'm just just impressed that's all!" Hawks quickly added as he raised his hands in surrendering fashion while adorning a nervous smile on his face. The last thing he needed was to receive the end of those muscled pillars Mirko had for legs. He'd seen the damage those lower limbs did to their unfortunate targets, and he did NOT want to add those kinds of injuries to the ones he already was recovering from.
Mirko merely stared heatedly at the surrendering Hawks before letting out a satisfied "hmph" and plopped back down to her bed. Seeing Mirko had calmed down Hawks let out a relieved sigh and put his arms back down.
"Well, I'm at least glad we're able to reach an agreement on this to some extent. And trust me I agree about him being dangerous mirko, I'm just saying we should at least help him." Hawks clarified with Mirko nodding back before speaking once more.
"I get it Hawks, I'm only saying we need to understand what kind of person we're dealing with here. And while I'm not making any accusations here. But from the way you said he fought you; it feels, at least to me, like he was trying to spill more than just his blood." Mirko grimly warned Hawks who after hearing that last piece, soon looked away and glanced at the hospital window nearby with a sense of reluctance worn on his features.
As much as hawks wanted to dissuade mirko from assuming such accusations, he couldn't. As he too had been having same fears about the boy being true. He was really hoping that he was wrong, and this boy wasn't what Mirko was suggesting. Yet the winged hero couldn't help but think back to the battle that happened between them.
The ominous bloodlust he gave off.
The few times he nearly got seriously injured or even almost killed a few times fighting him.
How he swung his swords with such lethality to them.
Those cold cerulean eyes...
It all pointed to the possibility of this boy potentially being a mad killer. Yet, even so, Hawks still thought there was still hope left in him. And he could see now that Mirko certainly had that same hope, albeit with some more skepticism.
"Even so...I still think we should at least try to do something. We're called heroes for a reason Mirko, we shouldn't just give up on a kid like that." Hawks glanced back at Mirko, who only gave a small grin at the number 2 hero and his respectable resolve towards this case.
"Fine, just don't come crying to me if this comes to bite us in the ass." Mirko forewarned, but it didn't really have any bite to it, if anything, it almost came out teasingly if that smile was proof enough.
"So what you do think about all this ezio?...uh Ezio?" With no response from her old friend, Mirko turned to see where Ezio had been standing this whole time. And found that the detective was staring down at the floor in seemingly deep thought. Yet whatever he was thinking about didn't seem good, as the man's eyes held what almost looked like dread to whatever was going through his head.
'There's no point in denying it now. Any chance of me being wrong is practically null and void after hearing all about that last vigilante.' Ezio concluded, already needing to brace himself for what was to come from this. He wanted to be wrong, he had prayed this whole time, that he was just being too paranoid about all this. but all it took was that pink-haired boy to practically shattered that hope into tiny pieces. Everything he had learned about that robed vigilante qualified almost every single category of that villain's handiwork.
The multiple powers the albino boy displayed in his quirk was already a massive piece of evidence. But the development of the third vigilante also seemingly having multiple quirks as well, was practically the final nail in the coffin.
Any chance of them being proven innocent was now less than zero. Now being near undeniable that these kids had somehow made contact with japan's symbol of evil. 'From the multiple different quirks, his proficiency in using them all, the...blood costume and his unstable mind; they all fit into the kind of asset he would want to make a person into.' Ezio listed off, as he already felt that this kid was the most connected to the thought to be dead symbol. 'All of his abilities seem to excel in lethal combat, and with his expert swordsmanship; it honestly feels like the guy was trying to make some kind of killing machine out of the lad. One that can effortlessly take on some of japan's best heroes.'
The only thing he needed to know is who exactly this single boy was, and how he was so connected to the other two suspects. They were friends, yet from what Hawks described the boy seemed to care about the girl who was known as "maka". Heck, his loyalty to this girl is so great that even when he was near the brink of exhaustion, went out of his way to help her.
Even though he did save a child, it didn't change the fact that this kid was not mentally well. Something that greatly disturbed the old detective. As the sheer fact that someone with an arsenal of powerful quirks, was in the hands of an unstable mind like this boy brought chills to his spine.
'Thank god we managed to catch him when we did.' Ezio thought in relief, Shuddering to think of the destruction that would've transpired if that boy was still roaming around Japan free.
But right now he needed to figure out exactly what to do next and how to handle this situation before it gets out of hand. It was bad enough that all might's nemesis was still alive and plotting in the shadows, but the knowledge that he's begun turning teens into his servants only made things worse. 'I still can't believe that evil bastard went this low. To trick children into serving him...' Ezio thought in righteous anger, being in complete disgust at this monster now using children as his pawns. But for what purpose?
The most likely answer was that he was trying to create a new army of followers, giving a select few a handful of his quirks, and testing their prowess through their activities in either acts of villainy or vigilantism. And if this one of the first recruitment trials, then it already meant the fallen shadow king was beginning his next moves. So he needed to act fast before it was too late. Thus the first thing to immediately do was to get any information out of those kids.
Hopefully they'd spill where the quirk stealing villain has been hiding all this time, once then he'll alert allmight and naomasa as soon as possible about this grave news. 'Afterwards, I'll leave the rest to them, hopefully, they'll be able to end this before it's too late. There's no way in hell, that I'm gonna stand by and let this son of a bitch continue doing this.' Ezio declared in steely resolution, now all he needed to do was go an interrogate those teenagers, and get everything they know their leader and his whereabouts-
"EZIO!" Mirko's voice shouted out. The owner of that spoken name quickly snapping out of his deep thinking and shot his head up to look at the rabbit heroine.
"I'm sorry what?" Ezio blurted out, having been so deep in his internal analysis that he must have zoned out. As a slightly annoyed Mirko was now stared impatiently at him.
"The hell man? I've been trying to get your attention now for the past 2 minutes." Mirko told the confused detective, who could only scratch his head while giving an apologetic smile.
"O-oh-uh sorry about Mirko, I was just compiling everything I've gathered so far." Ezio sheepishly apologized to his old friend, a little embarrassed himself for being so caught up in his thoughts. After coughing into his robotic fist, got himself together and returned to a more calm countenance.
"Well, I think I got enough information to back up my theory about who these kids are, and where they came from." Ezio concluded
"Well if that's the case, then what's your take on this?" Hawks asked the balding detective.
"These guys so far seem to be a bunch of talented hero students who simply didn't wanna play by the book any longer, and decided to break the rules so to speak." Ezio elaborated as the two pro heroes listened intently at the detective's working theory. "Then most likely through some illegal process they managed to slip in Japan undetected, and later began their vigilante activities unnoticed till now."
After hearing this the two top ten heroes looked at the cybernetic detective with agreeing looks. And While Mirko seemed to be going along with her old friend; Hawks couldn't help but feel impressed by how the man had come to the same conclusion he made. Yet, even so, the number two hero couldn't help but notice there was a couple of holes in his theory.
"That would explain a couple of things, as we haven't got anything in our databases for vigilantes matching their descriptions." hawks contemplated for a moment before turning back to ezio. "But there's still the lack of an answer for why they would go to Japan of all places." Hawks remarked, with Ezio only casually shrugging his shoulders in response.
"Eh, I guess they just decided it was the best location to set up shop." Ezio lied right through his teeth, he loathed having to lie to hawks and Mirko like this; but he didn't want to get them involved in a potential catastrophe. There was a good reason why this man was kept hidden from japan's public for so long. The country had already suffered enough from the hands of that megalomaniac, it's better off if the world were to never remember him again.
"And their quirks? That blood costume?" hawk listed off with Ezio being quick to answer.
"That was probably a customized kid's hero costume his school made for him, and later stole when he dropped out and became a vigilante. And as for their quirks, they're probably using some hidden hero support equipment or for that pink-haired kids' case; even trigger to augment their quirks." Ezio answered back, Yet knew very well what came out of his mouth wasn't even close to the truth. But instead, a hopefully very believable lie to deter them from finding out the grim truth of this situation.
Hawks and Mirko looked at the detective with expressions of growing agreement with his thesis. Once again what Ezio said did make a decent bit of sense, hero support tech has been becoming sleeker and easier to wear; so maybe with them wearing it underneath their clothing, that would explain the scythe kid and even that girl's unusual quirks.
As for the trigger assumption, that was also a reasonable conclusion. The quirk steroid was infamous for its usage in both villains and even vigilantes. Allowing its users to greatly boost their quirks potency but at the cost of weakening their sense of reason. Turning those who take it, into crazed berserkers that were eerily similar to how that boy hawks fought acted last night.
'I'm honestly surprised that I didn't think of that being a possibility, especially since they're from America.' hawks thought in the realization of this likely being the reason why the boy he fought was so powerful yet unhinged. American trigger was a much more potent and long-lasting variant of the drug than those produced in Asia. So maybe he was a young trigger addict that did some more...unsavory actions to get the illegal steroid and keep his quirk at a stronger level. And if so, it just showed that this boy truly needed help before it was too late. He still felt there details missing to complete the picture, but so far it seemed like a solid theory for these vigilantes.
"Alright, I think it's about time I finally go and interrogate those three already." Ezio announced as he soon began walking to the hospital room's doorway. "But I gotta say, You two were a major help to me here, thanks Mirko." the rabbit heroine in return gave her old friend a happy grin, glad to have at least caught up with the veteran detective in all this.
"No problem old man, just make sure you do a damn good job to solve this whole thing, alright?" Mirko said in her usual energetic tone, ezio couldn't really help but chuckle at the rabbit girls fiery spirit. It was honestly a no brainer why someone strong in both body and will would eventually become one of Japan's best pro heroes.
"You got it, Rumi," Ezio chuckled, but before he would exit the room, he turned around to look at the two pro heroes one last time. "but before I leave is there anything you would like to tell me? Any and all information that you may have left out or forgot to tell me?" Ezio quickly asked the pair, the two pro heroes trying to think up anything else worth mentioning to help the veteran detective. It wasn't long however before hawks had recalled something those vigilantes said to him yesterday.
"Actually yeah, that girl called maka mentioned being from some city in America." Hawks informed the detective, who quickly turned his sights on the blonde man.
"What's it called?" Ezio queried, hoping to maybe get the knowledge of where these kids exactly came from before meeting face to face with the three young vigilantes.
"She said they were from..."
But before hawks could finish what he was about to say, out of nowhere, the loudest and angriest shriek any one of them had ever heard in their lives, bellowed throughout the room and maybe even the entire hospital itself.
"WHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!"
The room's four occupants were practically staggering from the sheer volume of this mysterious voice. The glass on the windows of the room nearly cracked from the enraged screech's sound alone, as it continued to echo throughout the building. When it finally stopped the two pro heroes, the head doctor and the detective all began frantically looking around to figure out what just happened.
"What the hell was that!?" Mirko shouted while covering her rabbit ears with both hands, already more than infuriated with the asshole who decided to scream like a banshee. Dr.Moshi after managing to recover from the loud yell,
"I-i don't know, but I-it sounded like it came from-"
"Doctor Moshi!" a voice shouted in a nearly panicked tone. The dinosaur-headed doctor whirled around to see another doctor with a mushroom cap for hair ran up to the doctor.
"Doctor Hikigaeru, what's going on?" Moshi carefully asked his colleague, looking very concerned at the shaken state of the man.
"I-It's two of those vigilantes on the third floor! They've both woken up, and the quirk of that boy with the pink hair has gone completely berserk! It's cursing like crazy and trying to attack the g-girl! The officers that were guarding their room are trying to restrain the thing, but it's getting ugly doctor!" the mushroom-headed man explained in clear desperation at the situation, as soon enough the same scratchy voice heard from before began screaming again. Only this time could they now make out a load of profanities being yelled out.
"YOU MOTHERFUCKING COW! I'LL RIP YOUR SHRUNKEN UTTERS OFF YOUR SHITTY CHEST AND SHOVE THEM DOWN YOUR FUCKING ASS!!!!" The scratchy voice roared from the floor above, with everyone in the room below the screaming gaped in utter shock at what they were hearing right now.
"Damn, and they say I have a foul mouth..." Mirko muttered in complete shock at what was probably the foulest mouth she'd ever heard, continue to yell out all kinds of nasty names upstairs.
Ezio however wasn't fazed by this for long, as he speedily walked towards the exit of the room. Already seeing that he needed to head upstairs much sooner now before the situation got out of hand. But before Ezio was about to walk out, he turned his head to look at the two pro heroes with an urgent expression worn on his features.
"Listen, I know you two are still healing up from last night, but if you think your well enough, then come with me to the third floor immediately." Ezio quickly instructed Mirko and hawks, the two looking at each other for a moment before nodding in agreement. Understanding how this dilemma would get only worse should no one do anything about it.The two pro heroes swiftly getting out of their beds and got ready to walk with Ezio out of the hospital room.
"Hey wait! You're still recovering from your wounds!" the dinosaur-headed doctor urged Mirko and hawks but his concernsfell on deaf ears. The two pro heroes then took off from their room and began walking with the detective towards the nearest elevator. Getting ready to head straight to the third floor, and confront the three vigilantes causing all this trouble. Bracing for whatever they were about to charge straight into.
"Ragnarok stop it right now!" crona continued to shout as he and two officers tried to restrain his furious weapon, but it was becoming harder and harder with each passing minute.
"YOU SPINELESS CUNT! YOUR DEAD! YOU HEAR ME?! DEAD!!!" Ragnarok shrilled in livid fury as he struggled to free himself from the combined grip of his meister and these two officers holding him back.
The two men and teenager were trying with all their combined strength, to prevent the sword from attacking the pigtailed girl in front of them.
Ragnarok having reemerged himself in his meisters chest where he had attempted to charge at the ash-blonde girl, but thankfully the officers were there to help crona restrain his infuriated weapon. Yet that may not last for long.
"For gods sake, just calm down already you crazy little imp!" Soul shouted as he attempted to shield maka from the berserk demon weapon as best as he could. But being handcuffed to a chair had made that task somewhat more difficult to accomplish. So only by pushing the chair he was stuck to, as close to maka's bed as possible, was he able to partially use the right side of his body as cover from Ragnarok's onslaught.
The little imp having thrown everything he could see at the scythe meister whenever he could get the opportunity. Only for an annoyed maka managing to dodge or had soul deflect everything fired at her. Thus the room soon quickly devolved into a state of utter chaos, as Ragnarok continued to throw the mother of all tantrums.
'Dammit, this is the last thing we need to be dealing with right now.' soul complained in exasperation, still amazed by how things got so out of hand so fast.
After maka informed Ragnarok that she and soul had allowed themselves to be arrested, due to the injured state she and crona were in; just like they all predicted, the demonsword immediately fell into a boiling rage. Furious with the fact maka had been forced to allow themselves to get captured by the police after all they went through; the sword soon decideded to take his anger out on maka.
Crona at first tried to contain his screechy weapon but the tiny devil's rage made it hard for even crona to stop by himself. Thankfully with Ragnarok yelling so much vulgarity that he would make a sailor blush, the two officers who were guarding their room soon heard the screaming inside. When they ran into the room and saw Ragnarok going nuts, the two had been forced to help the poor meister stop his livid weapon.
Thus leading to where they were now, as an enraged Ragnarok didn't seem to be calming down anytime soon. If anything, it looked like he was only getting started.
"Knock it off already! I told you we had no choice in the matter, so quit acting like a nutjob and-HEY!" maka angrily exclaimed as once again Ragnarok managed to break free of crona and the officer's grip, throwing a nearby box of tissues to his ash-blonde haired target. Maka once again being forced to once again duck her head down to avoid the projectile.
"OH PLEASE! Like hell, you didn't! You just decided to puss out and go with the option that fucks us all over!!!" Ragnarok rebuked as he once again tried to lunge at the scythe meister but was stopped by crona. Grabbing his weapons plushie body from his thorny back with both arms to once again restrain him.
"Enough Ragnarok! We weren't in any shape to do anything about it, you know that!" crona tried reasoning with his angry weapon, but that seemed to only redirect the anger of the sword towards his meister. Breaking out of the swordsman's grasp, Ragnarok turned plushie body towards crona, pointing an accusatory balled hand at him. "No thanks to your dumbass! You just HAD to act like some knight in shining fucking armor didn't you, and for what? This cowardly excuse of a woman!?" Ragnarok snarked while pointing towards an annoyed maka. However this seemed to push the swordsman's buttons, as he whacked away his weapons balled hand and gave a very harsh glare towards his irritating sword.
"I warned you to stop insulting her like that!" Crona yelled back, as soon enough stern lavender eyes glared at the annoyed ping pong eyes of his weapon. "I don't care what you have to say, nor do I regret what I did. I would have done all that a thousand more times if I had to if it was for her sake." crona sternly declared, yet Ragnarok merely scoffed at his meister defending his best friend.
That very same girl blushed a light shade of red at crona's declaration, being truly touched by his loyalty towards her, yet also so embarrassed by such sweet words being said about her.
"C-crona..." maka muttered, her blushing cheeks only adding on to this moment, souls mouth curved upwards and chose not to say anything; lest he get brutal maka chop by his embarrassed meister.
Crona however soon realizing what he just said aloud in front of maka, began blushing cherry red himself, hiding his face in his bangs in shy embarrassment. Ragnarok however taking advantage of the swordsman's moment of distraction, once again tried to throw something at the scythe meister.
Only for maka's reaction time to be quicker and instantly throw a thick textbook towards his spherical head. The book's spine immediately colliding with The demon's cranium until a nice dent was made on top.
"Goddamn you!" Ragnarok wailed, while frantically rubbing his colored head, with tiny tears of pain in his eyes. "The hell was I thinking helping this pussy save your ass! Now cause of you, we're all gonna get sent to the slammer!"
Maka's eyebrow twitched as her patience was beginning to melt away, and in its place was accumulating anger from the annoying concoction of black blood that only knew how to make a scene or tick her off. Yet as much as she wanted to further bash the hellions head in, she knew that it would only make things even more chaotic. Thus after maka managed to ease her temper down as best as she could, continued to reason with the merged demon weapon.
"For the last time Ragnarok, we're not going to jail! A detective is just going to be coming here to speak with us, that's it." maka exasperatedly corrected yet Ragnarok only made a scoffing noise in response.
"Really? Because I'm pretty sure wrecking a building and nearly killing a bunch of people is more than enough reason to lock us all up!" Ragnarok harshly rebuked with maka and soul especially flinching from the swords brutally honest words.
As much as she wanted to counter the imp, she and soul knew very well he was right. They were impulsive in their fight with that rabbit girl, having resorted to using a dangerous power to try and end their fight quickly. And because of their recklessness, it resulted in so much destruction happening.
With this train of thought being followed small pieces of guilt that remained in their heart began to resurface. Despite not letting what happened get to them too badly, they couldn't help but still feel remorse sting at them. Now fearing they truly had to immediately face up to the crimes they accidentally committed, and be unable to come back to their friends aid.
"Hate to break it to ya, but your friends quirk is right, it's very likely you kids will be facing a few serious charges for what you caused last night." The elephant officer soul encountered last night sternly spoke under his trunk.
Maka and soul in response only could look down at the bedsheets to avoid the officer's gaze in minor shame. The officer's blunt words only made their fears of what was to come from their mistake feel even more assured to happen. Heck even if they got in contact with shibushan along with the new lord death, they would probably have to face up to some consequences from their previous actions once the kishin had been stopped.
Crona however seeing the remorse in his friend's eyes, soon felt a wave of sympathy hit him for the spartoi students. When maka explained what she and soul had accidentally done when fighting that rabbit woman, he was simultaneously shocked and heartbroken.
The swordsman being at first shocked to have heard soul use a sonic based technique of the black blood. Something that greatly surprised crona, having not expected soul being capable of using the black blood like that. And also made ragnarok rant about suing the death scythe before getting maka chopped.
But It wasn't before hearing the devastation that was unintentionally caused soon after did crona feel so bad for the spartoi students. He had profusely told them what happened wasn't any of their faults, but maka and soul had disagreed with him. Maka telling him that even if unintentional, they were still responsible to some extent. But even though she told him they weren't going to let this get to them, crona could easily see that traces of remorse were still in them.
He understood very well the feeling of guilt one would experience when having done such wrongdoings. It was such a horrible feeling to have inside you, one that made you feel like your heart was being eaten away by the shame alone. So he couldn't stand to see his friends suffer through something remotely similar to that. Especially since unlike himself, the destruction they caused wasn't intentional in the slightest.
"B-but my friends helped save all those people from getting hurt, and they made sure to protect everyone who in danger; shouldn't mean something?" Crona quietly asked the officers standing near him. The officer letting out a tired sigh before looking back up at the teen in front of him.
"I'm sorry, but even if they did help prevent any casualties, those people wouldn't even have been in danger had these two not caused that building to collapse in the first place. Add that with the property damage, and let's just say it ain't looking too good for all of you." The elephant officer explained to the pink haired teen, but crona wouldn't give up that easily. He had to try and find a way to help his friends out of this.
"Maka and soul did everything in their power to fix their mistake! What happened was only an accident, something they never wanted to happen in the first place; I-isn't that enough of a reason at the very least?" crona defended the meister/weapon pair, while trying to seek reason with the officer. But all he did was merely shook his head as he and his partner began walking out the room , much to the swordsman's sorrow.
knowing from that silent gesture that he'd failed to at least give a credible reason to not fully punish his friends. Maka and soul despite their brief relapse of guilt, looked at pink haired teen in admiration, being warmed by how he was trying to defend them like this. Yet soon enough the merged demon weapon was then more than glad to refute his meister's previous claims.
"Oh yeah, 'accidentally' destroying a street will be more than enough reason for them to let us off the hook." Ragnarok sarcastically spoke back, crona then avoided the gaze of his weapon before the sword punched the top of his meisters head. "Get real idiot, not even the best freakin lawyer in the world can get us out of this mess."
Even though crona's pink bangs tried to covered his the top of his face, maka could still see his already somber eyes become sadder; while his features had become more scrunched in melancholy. Yet before maka or soul could say anything to comfort him, his head slightly rose up to look at his friends with sad ebon eyes.
"I-I'm sorry, I knew it wasn't likely to w-work but I just thought if I at least tried..." crona somberly spoke to his friends, the swordsman probably internally berating himself for his unsuccessful attempt at reasoning with the officers. But before maka could open her mouth to say something to crona, soul beat her to the punch and spoke first.
"Listen man it's not your fault, this whole situation is pretty much out of our hands at this point." Soul told the saddened teen, trying to comfort his friend to the best of his abilities. "All we can do right now is wait for that detective, and hope the sherlock coming here will help sort this whole thing out."
"Or maybe you could just ask him right now." A new voice suddenly suggested, causing the three teens in the room to instantly turn their heads to the direction of the voice.
And to their surprise found the voices owner to be a balding man in his late 40's wearing a dark-colored suit. And to further their surprise, by his side were none other than the two "heroes" they encountered/fought yesterday. The rabbit girl and former winged man now wearing similar hospital gowns as they did. The reason for that being rather obvious, as the three could easily see the bandages that were wrapped up in some parts of their bodies, showing how they weren't the only ones who had a rough night.
Maka and soul barely resisted the cringe when seeing the amazonian rabbit now wrapped in bandages. Remorse cracked into their features as memories of what they did flashed by, the duo putting effort to keep a straight face in front of rumi.
However they assumed she and that formerly winged man should be resting right now. Yet it was very clear that the commotion they've been caused forced them to get up and assist in resolving it.
Right now however attention seemed to turn towards the dark suited man, as he adjusted his tie while running a hand through his graying hair. "Well I gotta say this isn't exactly how I thought I'd be meeting you kids, I was more or less expecting our first interaction to be much less...hectic, that's for sure." The man pondered in hindsight, putting more emphasis on the word "hectic" as a certain pink haired teen glanced away from the man in embarrassment; knowing very well by what he meant by that.
Maka blinked. "Oh, so you can speak English too?"
"Yeah I can, it's something i thought would be essential for the job and clearly my intuition was correct." The suited man responded back to her, having a prominent Japanese accent yet was still understandable nonetheless. He then went over to soul and with a small silver key put into the cuffs lock and unlocked it from the boys wrist.
"Here, i think it's better if I get these off you, you've probably been in these long enough." Ezio said as soul rubbed his previously handcuffed wrist.
"Thanks man." Soul thanked the older man, glad to finally be free of those damn handcuffs.
"Though the only reason why I did that was because I had these two with me, so do me a favor and don't try anything." Ezio suggested as he pointed towards the number three and seven heroes behind him.
"Yeah I got it. So I'm guessing your that detective those two cops said was coming here to meet us, right?" Soul asked for confirmation.
"Correct. My names ezio tanuma, I'm the police detective that was assigned to this case and to talk with you kids."
"And we're here simply make sure this is kept peaceful. So please do us a favor, and make sure that thing keeps its foul mouth shut and doesn't cause anymore trouble." Mirko told the three teens, with a certain imp took offense to the rabbit heroes orders as an angry vein soon popped on his round head.
"Oi! Who the hell do you think you are to tell me what to do you rabbit eared-" thankfully before he could finished crona covered his weapons mouth with his hand, preventing him from finishing his colorful sentence.
"I'm so s-sorry, he's usually like this but when he's angry it gets worse." Crona timidly apologized to the three people in front of him. Ragnarok meanwhile was tryin to shake Crona's hand off him to unleash a pair of large, square teeth, chomping down on the hand covering his mouth. Crona yelped and drew back his hand, while ragnarok triumphantly crossed his arms. "Ow! Ragnarok what have I told you about biting me!" Crona scolded his bratty weapon but the black blood creature merely rolled his x-marked eyes at his meister.
"Tch, well maybe that'll teach you not to try and silence me brat!" Ragnarok barked out. Ezio's curious eyes turning attention towards the small loud creature that was attached to the boy.
"And I'm guessing your the one who's been making all this ruckus for the past few minutes now." ezio questioned the sword, causing ragnarok to turn his attention towards the balding man. His x shaped face being scrunched with annoyance as he glared at the detective. "Yeah, and Why the hell are you asking baldy?"
"Cause if you can scream to the top of your lungs, you'd probably be able to help answer some of my questions." Ezio replied, yet ragnarok didn't seem all too thrilled by this as the imp then proceeded to wag his balled hand in a "no" manner while shaking his head furiously.
"Oh hell no! I ain't sticking around for this interrogation shit; good luck dealing with that asshole, cause I'm out!" Ragnarok rudely exclaimed. Sticking out his tongue in mocking fashion before dissolving back into crona's body. Thus leaving maka, soul and crona to speak with the detective and the two pro heroes.
"Well he's pleasant." Mirko sarcastically complimented, not at all amused by that little devils antics and at least glad he's gone for now.
"Sorry you had to deal with that, trust me when I say it's not easy dealing with him." Maka apologized to the detective, who only shrugged back at the girl.
"It's fine kid, to be honest I think that its better that he's gone. Hopefully now we can talk without having anymore noisy problems getting in the way." Ezio calmly told the ash blonde girl who was in complete agreement with the mans reasoning.
"Yeah definitely. Anyway It's nice to meet you sir," Maka said with a nod. "My name is maka Albarn, this dummy here's soul Evans or soul eater as he likes to be called; and he's crona Gorgon." maka introduced themselves, and to her surprise and relief, noticed no fearful reactions from the three when the swordsman's name was spoken of.
Ezio then only raised a curious eyebrow at the names given to him, "Well, those are some interesting names you got there. Though don't you think it's bad a idea to use your real names when being vigilantes?"
"Uh not really dude, I mean why wouldn't we want use our real names? It's not like we're superheroes with secret identities or something." Soul casually told ezio and two pro heroes.
The man looking confused for a moment before regaining his composure. "Young man I don't think you and your pals understand the gravity of your situation." and slowly began narrowing his eyes, causing soul and his friends demeanors to become slightly tense. "You should all know that It's illegal to use your quirks without hero licenses. We ran your faces through the database, and no licenses for anyone matching your descriptions or for his costume came up. Yet when we checked his robe out, we noticed it's...unique properties."
Crona then silently flinched when the detective uttered that emphasized last part, something that didn't go unnoticed by the man and the two other people in the room. maka's eyes however widened a bit as she may unfortunately have an idea as to what the man meant by that.
"T-That being..." Crona quietly trailed off as ezio was then soon to answer the boy's question, yet knew very well what he and these people found.
"That it was mostly made of your black colored blood." Ezio finished for the swordsman as the boy then tightly groped his right arm with maka and soul looking on with worried glances. Already proving that he was on to them. The worry in their eyes and the fear growing in that pink haired boy was already a sign of such suspicions. He just needed to drill in deeper to find flaws or lies in their responses and it'll be all he needs to confirm their alignment with one for all.
"But what I'm asking is who made that for you. As only hero schools would have the resources and funding to make a costume that suits to your quirk like that-"
"Okay I'm sorry, but what the heck is quirk?" Maka abruptly interrupted as the three adults looked at the girl with a mixture of bafflement and surprise. Ezio was especially baffled, as he for a moment he looked at the girl in stunned bewilderment. "We've been hearing that term ever since yesterday, and still don't know what it means, is that what makes everyone here look so weird?"
At that moment ezio could only continue staring at the clueless teen, unable to believe what she just said. Was...was she serious here? How the hell could she not know what quirks were? she and her friends obviously had them and probably more if he was right about them being connected to one for all. And a few minutes ago he was almost sure that was true. But with what that girl just said right now, he wasn't so sure
'Something is definitely not right. For now I should just see where this goes. I could still be right and she's just playing stupid...but still, how the hell could she not know that?' Ezio pondered as he regained his composure and soon answered the girls bizarre question.
"Um...their powers kid, you know, the ones that everyone has," Ezio slowly elucidated yet still was still perplexed by this girl's lack of such common knowledge. "Did you get hit in the head by some of that rubble last night? I mean you bruised your foot pretty badly so..."
"What-no! I'm just asking why everyone here has all these freaky appearances and powers," maka clarified herself. "We pretty much just landed here without much explanation, so we're honestly really confused as to where we are."
"Well wherever we are it must be far away from home. I mean seriously, superpowers? At first I wouldn't have believed it, but considering what happened last night I can't say your wrong." Soul admitted to the detective who looked at the boy with an incredulous expression.
"I'm not...and I assure you everyone here has these powers. It's pretty much a basic fact around here kid." Ezio reaffirmed his claims the albino boy who causally shrugged his shoulders in response.
"Not gonna lie that's pretty freakin cool, maybe this place ain't so bad after all maka." Soul turned to his meister with a smirk, who merely rolled her eyes at her weapon. Of course he'd like a part of the world that looked like one of his comic books brought to life.
Yet the two didn't seem to notice ezio quietly staring at the teens in confusion the whole time. Mirko and Hawks meanwhile were only getting more and more weirded out by these two not knowing information like this. Had they been living under a rock or something?
"Oh yeah, they definitely have concussions." Mirko whispered to Hawks in Japanese.
"Let's not assume anything yet mirko." Hawks quietly replied back in the same language, yet was still loud enough for crona's ears to pick up.
"What did they just say?" Crona curiously asked, yet ezio with a small sigh waved it off.
"It's nothing, just some small talk. But getting back to the topic at hand, you kids do realize your Americans in Japan right? I'm quite surprised you guys would come here without bothering to know the country's primary language, nor its cities." Ezio lightly scolded as the three teens blushed in minor embarrassment. Maka and soul more so as they were kinda to blame for not knowing Japanese. The foreign language classes were optional courses in shibushan, and since they only really planned on taking missions in the America's and Europe they never thought it would be necessary.
Oh how wrong they were...
"Alright listen, besides the fact you illegally used your quirks in public, your also responsible for destroying a portion of a street and endangering civilian lives. Even if you didn't mean to cause it, it's likely you'll be punished for what you've done." Ezio sternly scolded the teens, as soul and maka glancing down from his gaze in soft regret. Only for soul after a deep breath to look up at the man with determination in his eyes.
"Sir I understand all the trouble we all caused last night, but whatever charges we're facing for that incident just put most of them on me, alright? I'm the one who caused the building to collapse in the first place, so it's only fair I take responsibility for my reckless actions." soul calmly pleaded to the detective.
"Soul what are you thinking!?" Maka demanded in shock. Soul turning his head to face his meister with the same determined expression.
"Maka I'm just trying to make sure you and crona aren't dragged into something I caused." soul replied to her now outraged meister who refused to let her friend do something like this.
"Dammit soul, we already talked about this!" Maka reminded her weapon of their previous conversation as crona also joined maka's side on this matter.
"S-soul its not your fault, please don't do this because you still blame yourself for what happened." Crona pleaded to soul who didn't seem to waver from his resolve.
"Guys it's not about the guilt anymore, it's about making sure you guys don't get screwed over more than already. I caused it, so I should at least face up the brunt of my mistake." Soul clarified to his upset meister who still didn't look at all pleased by his decision.
"But that doesn't mean you should just take all the blame for this! Especially considering what's happening back home!" Maka reminded soul who's resolve wavered at her comeback. He didn't really think of that, and she definitely wasn't wrong either. They had to get back to death city immediately, who knows what the hell was happening over there. Hopefully he could at least get kid to reason with the police to administer his punishment after the kishin was stopped.
Ezio however couldn't however take note of what she just said now, clearly something major was happening in the place they come from. And whatever it was, it wasn't good. Yet for now ezio would hold that off and wait till he can use it later and finally hear the truth of their involvement with AFO come out.
"Look whatever problems you all have back home it'll have to wait, for now we should just get back to the important matter at hand, okay?" Ezio asked the three teens who reluctantly held off the topic for now and refocused on the current situation.
"Now as to answer your noble request, I'm afraid that's not really up to me. Heck, giving any legitimate punishment for that is becoming tricky, considering the public's positive view of you all." Ezio explained to death scythe and the two meisters who looked baffled by what he just said right now.
"The public's positive view on us?" Maka repeated while tilting her head. The balding detective letting out a sigh before answering him.
"Long story short, despite what happened with the building, you kids did help prevent anything serious from happening, the same goes for stopping that robbery as well. Something that the media for some reason seems to be liking a lot if they're focusing on it so much. Heck, a decent chunk of people are already praising you for your 'valiant actions' and 'bravery' as they're calling them." Ezio summarized the situation to the kids and were stunned by this information. People were applauding them? Sure they stopped that robbery but they still caused so much damage afterwards.
Shouldn't these people be angry at them for what they done?
"But we caused so much trouble and damage yesterday, don't they know that?" Crona asked as Hawks was soon answer the pink haired boy.
"That be due to the fact those people last night didn't see your friends actually cause the building to collapse. If anything their somehow assuming it was due to its poor structure." Hawks explained to the teenage swordsman. "As to why people are cheering for you guys-"
"It's because people are dumbasses kid." Mirko interrupted Hawks. "They're really eating up that stunt you punks pulled when you came rescuing those civilians. Hell, they even got a video of you particular saving that kid from that falling rubble." Mirko explained to the wide eyed swordsman who due to his timid nature didn't really like the fact people are watching a clip of him online.
'T-there's a-actually a video of me saving that girl on the I-internet?! How many people have watched it? Hundreds...t-thousands!? I-I don't think I can handle that kind of attention!' Crona thought in mortification unable to believe nor handle this new piece of information. with mirko, Maka and soul all merely sweatdropping at the boys fearful reaction.
'This is seriously the same guy that pushed Hawks to his limits?' Mirko thought in disbelief, unable to see how this meek boy who was currently shaking like a freakin leaf; actually gave Hawks such a dangerous encounter last night.
The guy looked as deadly as a freakin daffodil for gods sake!
"But despite the public hero safety commission not wanting to get eaten alive by both the tabloids and news reports; laws exist for a reason, and in the end, you kids committed a single major crime that started all of this." Ezio reprimanded the teens before him. The trio now sharing tensed and stares of cautious worry at where this man was going with this.
"And which crime was this?" Soul cautiously asked but was had a feeling what this so called "crime" already was to begin with.
"Well in case you kids forgot, it's how you illegally used your quirks without licenses, and resisted arrest for breaking said law." Ezio clarified to the trio and with maka and soul looking a bit outraged by this reason.
"So the main reason your charging us is for helping to stop actual criminals, is that it?!" Maka indignantly asked the detective who gave a scolding expression towards the girl.
"I'm sorry but that's how it is, the incident that occurred last night is a perfect example as to why we have these laws to begin with. I understand you wanted to do the right thing but that's the job of the authorities, not you." Ezio emphasized yet all it did was make the shibushan students further infuriated.
"This is total bullshit, you really wanted us to just stand around and do nothing while those crooks got away?" Soul angrily questioned the older man, he may have been regretful for causing that collapsing building, but he REFUSED to be sorry for helping to stop a group of people who were endangering innocent lives.
"Well if you didn't get involved none of this would have happened to begin with. Plus if your pink haired friend's way of 'helping' is to brutalize his opponents then i think we're only further justified in doing this."
Crona at the mention of that flinched, gripping his right arm more tightly than before, with an evident tremble being notable in his body. "I-I was o-only trying to help..." crona muttered nervously.
"Well giving a man multiple stab wounds in his arm, throwing him into a car, and as a result breaking a good chunk of his ribs along with a concussion, is a pretty excessive way of helping buddy." Ezio reprimanded the teen who's face became scrunched in shame as he only continued gripping his right arm.
Ezio seeing this from the boy couldn't help but feel pity for the lad. It really did seem like he wanted to help his friends but clearly, due to his possible mental instability he lost control and reacted violently towards the thugs.
A common trait from some of the people who were given multiple quirks by the symbol of evil, if what naomasa told him about his quirk was anything to go by. And despite that very bizarre question the girl said earlier, he felt that these kids could still be linked to AFO somehow. Maybe they came from a town where the definition of quirks don't exist, and they had another name for superpowers. Okay yeah, it sounded REALLY far fetched, but it was still a possibility nonetheless. In fact it be better to simply speak their families and alert them to what was happening, hopefully then they can shed some light on this.
"Anyway, is there any guardians we can call?" Ezio questioned the three teens. "With your families up to speed, we can discuss how to exactly handle this matter next."
The trio then paused for a minute, looking at the man in surprise before maka and soul lips began to curve upwards. Relieved to finally contact their friends and get back home, hopefully they'd be able to resolve this whole mess soon. Ezio himself was more than ready to hear where these mysterious kids had come from, or better yet the hero school itself these kids dropped out of. Either one would hopefully give him an explanation as to why these youngsters became vigilantes and maybe even prove their link to AFO-
"Finally! look just let us get in contact with shibushan in death city and lord death can get this whole matter resolved now."
"What?" Ezio blurted out in alarm but was unheard by a smiling maka as she continued to speak.
"Now I don't know if kids back yet, but maybe Stein, Marie or any of the other death scythes can speak to you through a mirror and tell them what's happened and where we are."
"Hang on a second, what are you-"
"-Then hopefully we can all work out some kind of solution for the damages we caused; At least until we can finally stop the kishin."
"Now just wait a minute-!"
"But maybe we can go to the shibushan in Japan so we can tell them about this place and-
"HEY!" Ezio shouted as he finally got the ash blonde girls attention.
"Huh?" Maka then finally snapped out of her excited ramblings, looking up to see the utterly baffled and extremely confused faces of the detective and pro heroes in front of her.
"Kid...what the hell are you on about?" Ezio asked incredulously, looking completely clueless as to what in god's name this girl was spewing out of her mouth.
"Well You guys have to know where the nearest shibushan is and how to speak with lord death." Maka said without a hint of being dishonest, as Ezio blinked and after making sure he didn't mishear the teenager opened his mouth and spoke.
"I'm sorry to break it to you, but there is NO 'Shibushan' as your calling it in any part of Japan." Ezio stated as maka and soul looked flabbergasted at the man, all while a paling crona felt his stomach drop into a nauseating pit.
He was too late...he didn't gather the guts to tell them sooner; and because of his procrastination his friends were going to learn the truth the hard way.
"What the heck do mean? How do you not know about the shibushan academies? Everyone knows about the schools founded by lord death. There's practically one in every major country in the world!" Maka claimed shocked unable to believe how ignorant they were of such knowledge. She figured this place must be more isolated from the rest of the world, but she didn't think it be THIS bad.
"Kid I assure you there is no such school in Japan or anywhere else in the world for that matter. This is the first time I, along with these two, have ever heard of a hero school being called that." Ezio sternly stated still not able to make any sense of any of this. He thought he'd be getting answers but instead only more and more questions came instead.
"Well I wouldn't say that name's too off. Some people could say its a school where hero's are made. But it's really just the academies where meister's and demon weapons attend buddy." Soul remarked causing ezio to once again blink at the teen in utter disbelief.
"Demon weapons? Meister's? What the hell are either of those?" Ezio disbelievingly asked sounding absolutely clueless as to what these names were. "And again, who the hell is this lord death person you keep yammering about? As I've once again never have heard a pro hero with a name like that." Ezio said with an incredulous eyebrow, at this point not knowing what to expect. As maka only grew not only more frustrated, but now appalled by this mans ignorance at something that even toddlers would know about.
"Are you serious!? He's not a 'pro hero' he's The grim reaper himself; the god of order who keeps global peace through the shibushan academies." Maka answered back, yet instead of an getting a response, maka was met with the the stunned wide eyed faces of the detective and pro heroes.
The room in mere seconds went so silent even the machines near the beds seemed to be blaring noise to the ears of everyone in the room.
"What?" Maka casually asked, unable to see what she said wrong and why these people were now suddenly staring at her like she grew three arms.
"Kid...what in the absolute fuck, are you talking about?" A wide eyed Mirko slowly told the ash blonde girl, looking at her as if she was crazy and causing maka to only grow more frustrated.
"What do mean? I told you, he's the shinigami who founded and leads all the demon and meisters to keep order in the world." Maka explained with frustrated anger beginning to rise in her voice, yet not as much as the balding detective standing nearby who was slowly recovering from his shock.
"Alright Listen to me right now." Ezio told the maka in a stern voice, having had enough of this nonsensical behavior. "I don't know what kind of game you and your friends are playing here missy. But it's not helping you or your friends in the slightest. Cause everything you just told me right now sounds less like it was the truth and more like it came out of some wacky-ass manga series. So I'm telling you right now to stop this fictional nonsense and tell us the actual truth, right this instant."
Maka however After hearing the detectives harsh words, began to feel her blood boil as a heated glare began forming on her face. It was frustrating enough that they were being charged for trying to stop a bunch of criminals. But the fact this man had not only accused her of lying, but also that lord death and shibushan were nothing but fiction made her feel so insulted.
Soul seeing his meister was about blow up like an active volcano, quickly took the reigns before the situation ended up getting out of hand. The albino scythe immediately putting a calming hand on maka's shoulder, silently tell her through the gesture to to ease up before the young death scythe spoke to the detective.
"Hey man look, I'm sorry we're sounding really confusing to you. We can tell this city is more isolated from the rest of Japan then we thought, so maybe if you just give us a phone we can call our friends in death city and solve this whole problem." Soul tried to reason in a calm voice with the detective who only blinked in shock by what he just heard.
"Isolated? Uh Buddy, I'm pretty damn sure Fukuoka city is far from being some backwater town." And as soon as those words were uttered out of the balding man's mouth the gears in maka and soul's heads for a moment stopped working.
What?
Did they hear him right?
They...they were in Fukuoka city?
One of Japan's major cities?
But that can't be...it didn't make any sense.
If they were really in a major city like that, why were there so many people with powers and freaky appearances? It's impossible that japan could have hidden something like people having superpowers for so long. Shibushan's intelligence department would have surely notified lord death about this long ago.
So how has nobody heard of this till now?
Maybe it was something that recently happened? Or that the shibushan intelligence department here was too busy with the chaos the kishin's caused to notify death city?
So Surely they'd be able to at least notify kid about this development in Japan...right?
"Maka? A-Are you okay?" Crona slowly asked in concern, as she and soul had been staring into space with shocked expressions for a whole minute now. Thankfully it would seem crona's voice got them out of their stupor as maka shook her head lightly and turned to look at her worried friend.
"Y-yeah I'm fine crona, I-I was just thinking for a moment." Maka muttered, looking like she was semi-alright, yet her very shaken green eyes proved otherwise. Soul wasn't any better as the boy had remained frozen in shock longer before he eventually recovered, yet just like maka he was still just as shaken by this reveal.
Ezio and the two pro heroes standing nearby took note of this sudden change in the the two teens behavior. The formers gaze softening as he began to feel a bit concerned himself about these two. He was for sure thought they were just bullshitting him about this "lord death" and meister nonsense at first.
But their shocked reactions over where they were made ezio so puzzled. How could they think they were isolated from the rest of society? Sure Fukuoka city was a long drive to the likes of Tokyo, but it was for sure not some hermit city in the country. 'What the hell is this? Why do they look so startled all of a sudden? Whatever the case may be, I need to get to the bottom of this.' Ezio declared as he then went over to the shaken teens with a softer expression then before.
"Alright look, I don't know why your acting so shocked by this, but I think i know of a way we can clear some things up." Ezio told the meister and weapon pair as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a thin black featureless rectangular object in hands and began tapping it before a certain meister took interest.
"Um, I'm sorry to ask this, but what's that object in your hand?" Maka asked in curiosity. "Is that some kind of new type of mirror or something?" The detective didn't respond for a few seconds, only having looked up to the girl with wide eyes filled with disbelief and his mouth hung open for a a few seconds at what she just asked.
"You mean this?" Ezio gestured to the device in his hand after being able to recover from his shock, with maka nodding as a silent yes. Ezio didn't say anything at first merley blinking in stunned surprise before speaking. "It's not some mirror, it's an iphone." Ezio slowly clarified to the confused meister who looked at the device in curious wonder.
"What's an iphone?" Crona innocently asked as his curious ebon eyes were directed toward the sleek handheld device. Ezio looking at the pink haired boy with wide eyes and his jaw dropped. Unable to once again believe what he was hearing out of these children.
"It's...it's basically a brand of smartphone kid, everyone practically has one. H-how in gods name do you not know that?" Ezio stammered in stunned shock, never having seen such ignorance for so many commonplace topics and information like this.
"Wait, that's actually a smartphone?" Soul inquired in surprise with ezio slowly nodding in confirmation of his words. "Huh, I've been hearing all about those fancy things coming out; they seem pretty cool." Soul complimented with a small amused smile.
"Yeah...sure, a-anyway how about you tell me where this death city as your calling it is, and see if it'll search up on the internet." Ezio offered the three teens and while soul and maka seemed ready to say yes, a frantic crona tried to sway them to do otherwise.
"M-maka look maybe we should just wait till later, y-you just woke up and-" yet maka was soon to cut her friend off.
"Crona We can't afford to waste anymore time here, and besides I'm not some frail flower I'm more than fine." Maka scolded the swordsman as he merely continued to tremble in seemingly contained panic. While maka had found this behavior in crona to be a bit questionable, she decided to hold it off for now and redirect her attention to the detectives offer.
"I honestly can't believe I need to clarify something like this, but considering what you said about where we are...then maybe it is necessary." Maka accepted with reluctance in her voice, still unsure and slightly scared to expect, but braved it through in the end.
"Alright then, so where is this place?" Ezio asked as he readied his phone to type.
"Death city is located in central Nevada sir." Maka quickly told the detective who wasted no time in typing everything she just said.
The sound of the man's thumbs tapping on the "smartphone's" screen being one of the few things that distracted her from the gnawing anxiety she was feeling within. It only took half a minute before the man stopped typing. Maka and soul looking up to see the detective having a raised eyebrow at whatever he was staring on his phone's screen.
Soul however assuming his expression was out of surprise for actually finding death city, curved his lips in a relieved smile.
"See what did we tell you? Now that we finally got that issue out of the picture we can-" however before soul could finish his sentence ezio turned his phone around, and showed the two spartoi students what his smartphone had found. And the second the teens saw the phones screen their hearts for a moment stopped beating. The phones clear screen displaying very clearly nothing but a single sentence.
No search results for "death city, Nevada."
It was only sentence containing merely seven whole words. Yet those seven words were all it took to shake the two star meister and her weapon to their very cores.
W-what...?
That...t-that's crazy...
This can't be right...
How...how could death city not be...
"I'm sorry kids, but it's what we've been trying to tell you for the past 15 minutes now, this death city you keep talking about, doesn't exist." Ezio said clear as day, and despite the shock induced ringing in their ears they could make out the detectives words.
All that did however was further leave the two shibushan students in frozen shock, unable to do or say anything other than stare with wide shocked eyes at the detectives phone. Maka however managed to muster the will to speak again as with great effort managed to tear her eyes away from that sentence on the screen and back at the detective.
"T-that's impossible, your p-phone's browser must be outdated." maka shakily muttered, her panicking mind racing for some kind of reason for this...insanity.
"Really? on moogle? One of, if not, the best internet search engine in the world?" Ezio replied with sarcasm in his voice.
"Moogle? What the hell are you talking about?" Maka's eyes landed back on the rectangular screen immediately growing wide in baffled shock when she indeed saw it was "moogle" on the web browser's title page.
Google supposed to be the global internet browser, not...whatever the hell this was!?
"W-what? Maka blurted out, blinking rapidly to make sure she saw that correctly. Yet when her eyes landed on the iPhone once more saw that colorful moogle name.
Maka looked down at her lap with frustration glinting her shocked eyes, her mind scrambled to find some answer for this alien web browser and why it didn't show shibushan when searched up. Normally she would've waved this off to her theory of the city they were in being isolated from the rest of the world. But that theory was brutally debunked now knowing they were in a highly known city in Japan, and how the detective said this "moogle" was the best internet browser in the world.
She may not have been on a computer for at least a week with all the commotion going on with the kishin, she definitely remembered this not being what was used by everyone.
But that was the least of her problems right now, her mind swirling with confusion and growing droplets of fear wanted to know why the these people and now the whole internet knew nothing about the death weapon meister academy.
Just what in deaths name was going on?
Maka still didn't want to give up however. She couldn't so soon. There still one last thing she and her friends could try to bring reason and reassurance back to this situation.
"Then...can you try searching up for shibushan academy?" Maka requested in a quiet mutter, one that ezio at first thought to deny. But when Ezio looked into the desperate and fearful eyes of this girl, along with a similar expression on her albino friend; ezio knew it would probably be the best thing to do. If only to get them to finally start talking some sense but in actuality to help these kids as best as he could.
He didn't know why, but those scared eyes in these two young teens were honestly concerning him. Even more so for crona who looked seconds away from getting out of his bed and to help his friends should either one need it.
Thus ezio got back on his phone and searched up what the girl requested, all while maka was lost in her thoughts.
'How...how could there be no results on death city? I-it doesn't make any sense, everyone in the whole world knows about death city. So why didn't it come up on the internet? Maybe because we're in a location with bad internet? B-but were in Fukuoka city...a place practically brimming with modern if not some reason more advanced technology than I remember it having...so will it come up?' Yet before maka could let fear sink in, soul put a hand on her left shoulder. The scythe meister turning to see her weapon despite his somewhat shaken expression still had calmness worn on his features.
Comforting her to know that soul was still able to keep a cool head and not completely freak out. But soon enough ezio finished tapping on his phone as the search results for shibushan came up. Even though it was only minutes passing, the three teens felt as if an eternity was passing by. And after a couple seconds, soul spoke.
"Well did you find it?" Soul quietly asked the detective who displayed only a unreadable expression that neither one of them could tell what he was thinking. Only adding more dread to the results of what he found.
'Please...please be there...it has to come up. It has to.' Maka prayed, hoping with all her might to be right.
Ezio let out a small sigh before turning his phone around, and once again showed the screen to to the demon scythe and his meister. And what they saw made their jaws drop and their hearts plummet into shocked horror.
No search results for "shibushan academy."
It's funny really, she had faced so many dangerous threats and foes that would make anyone feel what she was experiencing right now. From the likes of free, giriko, mosquito, clowns of madness, Arachne gorgon to kishin asura himself.
Hell not even the demonic god of madness could've been fully able to make her be consumed by his overwhelming madness of fear. Sure she was scared to have faced such powerful foes. But she had always been able to use all the courage in her soul to push forward and overcome those challenges in the end.
Instead it was a mere sentence displayed on a detectives phone that had been able to consume her very core with fear and panic. Maka as soon as she saw what was on that phones screen felt like someone had just hit her very soul with a sledgehammer.
Everything around felt like it had just vanished from her line of vision and sound, the only thing her brain could allow her to see through the chaotic storm of emotions was the detectives phone. Her body was paralyzed and numb from the sheer panic, and her breathing had almost stopped from the sight of that single impossible sentence
before her very eyes.
This can't be true, it couldn't be...
This couldn't be happening, it had to be some kind of dream. A dream produced by madness or some kind of magic, whatever it was, there had to be some explanation to this!
Any way to explain how she and two of her close friends were stuck in a part of Fukuoka city in japan that looks like it came straight out of a comic book. Where animal people and costumed guys were roaming around. Talking about these quirks and using powers like it was a crime. Where nobody knows about shibushan and death city. As...as if they never had even existed in the first place...
W-What was happening right now...
Where...where in god's name were they?
"Maka, maka!" Souls voice cut through her dazed state, maka feeling the emotional numbness fade from her body as she weakly turned her head to look at soul. Her weapon unfortunately wasn't really any better than herself, his expression looking quite more shaken than before. Any amount of calm that withstood the first bombshell was destroyed by the second. Leaving only fear and panic just like herself, yet unlike her, he had been able to shake out of his shock much sooner than she did.
"Hey, are you alright kid?" Mirko asked now standing nearby ezio, her face expression showing a mix of caution and concern. This girl who seemed to be full of spirit and determination last night was practically crumbling into shocked surprise. As if her entire world just disappeared off the face of the earth.
"N-no, no I'm not. How can I be? How can we be!? This is impossible! There's no way death city or shibushan could not be known in the world! It's always been there! It's where our home and friends-wait, our friends! They might still be up there!" Maka shouted as she immediately sat up on her bed, completely frantic, yet despite being worried by this girls panicking state. Ezio had taken note of something she just said.
"Wait a minute? What do mean your friends might still up there?' Where exactly is that?" Ezio asked.
"My friends and even my papa! Before we were taken here, they were all up on the moon fighting the kishin! We need to get back to death city, who knows what could have happened! W-we..we just need to go home..." maka then started breathing harder and faster, her mind racing as it tried to process everything that's she's learned.
They weren't on the moon or even in death city.
They were taken by the book of eibon to Fukuoka city, yet now it was filled with people who have superpowers and crazy features. And treat using their powers and fighting evil humans as if they it was like the responsibilities of driving a car! And while it wasn't far off from shibushan, the fact that nobody seems to know about the academy or even death city was mind boggling enough as it was.
But now knowing that there isn't any indication of their home even existing in the first place was beyond terrifying. It just didn't make any sense, it was utter madness! She didn't know what was going on, or why this was happening; she just wanted to go back home!
"Maka listen to me, just take a deep breath and calm down. This is crazy, I know, but we can't panic like this; your way stronger than that." Soul told maka as calmly as he possibly could. Yet even for someone as cool as him, it was becoming difficult.
The scythes own mind also being in a whirlwind of confused and downright scared emotions. This being due to the fact that their home and their academy seems to be nonexistent in not just this city but possibly the country or...well he didn't even want to consider this going beyond that. But even so his meister was his main concern right now, as she was clearly becoming overwhelmed by everything they've heard.
Thankfully maka seemed to be taking her weapons advice as she soon began taking slow deep breaths to regain control of her emotions. Her partner helping to soothe her frantic wavelength to a more stable frequency. The meister and demon weapon sharing a short yet helpful resonance to calm their panicked emotions as much as possible. And while it didn't help as much as one would think, it did at least keep them from falling to their panicked emotions.
"Albarn was it?" Ezio wanted to confirm, to which maka weakly nodded. "I'm sorry mrs.Albarn about your...predicament, I really am, but your just making even less sense than before. You say come from this 'death city' located in the United States, yet there doesn't seem to be any indication or proof of this city existing in the first place. So tell me, is there anything else you can give me that I can actually use to help you? Anything at all?" Ezio said with minor exasperation, yet also with a sense of worry.
At this points his desire to prove his AFO theory being correct was a secondary objective, as right now trying to make sense of...whatever the hell this was took precedence above all else.
"Can you..." maka paused releasing a deep breath before continuing. "Can you let us write all our contacts...and maybe see if you can call them and let us speak with them...please."
"It's all we're asking of you, we just want to see if we're able to speak with our friends and family and find out what's going on." Soul added, hoping this detective would give them some chance of contacting home and prove they weren't nuts to these people.
Crona who had been mostly silent throughout this whole ordeal, nodded his head in agreement. Wearing a pleading expression on his face, as he wanted nothing more than to help bring clarity to this situation.
Ezio and mirko were once again left with incredulousness and even though everything they have told them sounded completely insane; Their expressions softened upon seeing maka, souls and crona's faces once more. The frantic fear in their eyes, the energetic and courageous attitudes falling apart before these two adults.
Leaving only three scared kids that made the detective and pro hero feel nothing but sympathy for. They needed to something, and at this point, it seemed like this was the best if not only option left available to them. Thus without any further delay, ezio put away his phone and gave a notepad and pen to the despaired maka and soul.
"Alright then, just write them down and I promise you we will do everything in our power to contact them. You have my word as a detective and officer of Japan." Ezio proclaimed with upmost honesty, having worn that badge on his jacket for a reason. And that was to not only bring villains and criminals to justice, but to help people like these kids who desperately needed it.
Maka soon took the notepad and pen presented to her by the detective. And began writing the numbers of all their friends and loved ones numbers...Including the number used to contact lord death.
Okay it did sound ridiculous to continue trying something like that despite everything that she's been forced to acknowledge. but even though these phone numbers were mostly used for long distanced calls through mirrors, they also could be used to call them through regular phones. Something shibushan and the previous lord death thought would be a good idea in case any meisters lost their mirrors during missions. And right now, this precaution may very well be their last hope to getting out of this nightmarish scenario.
After writing down her own contacts, even her own papa, she handed Soul the notepad to write any missing contacts. And even though she had written the numbers to call the shibushan teachers and their friends.
Soul most likely added his own family members to the list so they could possibly be used to contact the rest of shibushan if they could. Even though soul had wanted to make his own path away from the evans family and especially not drag them into this mess, he could clearly see that they couldn't leave out any options.
Soon as Soul was finished writing he handed the notepad back to the detective. Who raised an eyebrow at the long list of phone numbers before him with so many names attached to each one.
"What about your friend over there? Does he have any guardians or family we can get in contact with?" Ezio motioned to crona who felt nauseous at the question alone, while tightening his grip on his right arm further. Maka herself nearly cringed in disgust at the suggestion.
Even if medusa wasn't dead, there was no way in hell she would EVER let that devil go anywhere near crona again. She may have been the only form of familial relation he had, but it was a twisted and monstrous mockery of what a mother should ever be to their child. One that maka was honestly glad crona had finally ended, even if it was apart of Medusa's sickening plans.
But it still didn't help that crona was basically a self-made orphan. He had no family nor any guardians to speak with...at least not with the former he killed. And telling the detective, with major and certain details taken out, about crona's lack of a family or guardian wouldn't help their predicament at all. If anything, it could make everything even more complicated than it already is.
'Unless...' maka pondered, as she may have solution to crona's lack of parents to call. Maka took the notepad and pen from the detective and drew two circles around the numbers and names for stein and Marie and put crona's name near each of the two. She soon gave the notepad back to the patient detective looming over her and soul.
Crona raising an eyebrow in confusion at what maka exactly did, with the scythe meister only winking with a small smile in assurance for the swordsman that she had taken care of it. To be fair she really didn't know what else to do, it was merely an act of improvisation. Marie and Stein just seemed to be best choices to act as "guardians" for crona till further notice.
Yet it was still painfully ironic, considering the trouble crona had coerced into causing for the couple. Tricking Marie into consuming tea tainted with one of Medusa's snakes that propagated Stein's madness rather than repressed it. But even so, Marie was one of the people who gave crona true kindness in his life, and the two had seemed to get along nicely before crona's betrayal. Plus Marie always would give out her motherly kindness to others in need, so it be a perfect role for the death scythe.
But while Stein didn't really have much connection to crona, at least one that didn't cause harm, the two did seem very similar in some aspects. Particularly both being good people deep down, who suffer from their inner demons and the madness that dwells within themselves.
True the two would be very hesitant to trust crona after all he's caused, but in the end he was manipulated by medusa to doing such crimes. He never would've done such treachery to shibushan otherwise, and the two teachers knew that very well. And with Marie's kindhearted nature and steins understanding personality, the two would surely forgive the boy eventually should they meet again.
That is if they are actually able to get in contact with them along with the rest of shibushan. A possibility that wasn't looking too good right now.
After being handed back the notepad, ezio started to walk out of the door with mirko and Hawks following suit. "Alright then, we'll get to work with these and see if we can get in contact with your families or guardians as soon as possible." Ezio then turned to mirko. "I think we should stay nearby their room just in case." Ezio advised in fluent Japanese.
"Sure thing." Mirko replied with hawks nodding in silent agreement, with the two pro heroes soon walking out of the room. But just before ezio was about to leave as well, he turned back to the three teens one last time.
"I still don't what in gods name is going on, but I meant what I said, we'll do our best to contact them." Ezio assured the shaken teens before walking out the white doors and down to the hospital hall. Thus leaving the three teens to their thoughts and each other within the near silent room.
The only thoughts that seemed to be running through their heads is if this was all but a nightmare they've been trapped in and when they'll wake up soon.
But within the back of their minds, a voice of cruel yet logical reasoning kept telling them that this wasn't the case.
Yet that didn't stop them from trying to push back such a thought in their heads.
Even if they knew deep down, that this voice in their heads was right...
*AUTHORS NOTE*
HELLO EVERYONE! I'm back and with a brand new chapter of soulbound heroes! Sorry it took SO long for this to come out but I was busy making the prologue for my other story paradis online and was still trying to fix my first chapter(something I have finally completed and highly recommend you check out to see what you think.) plus I have collage going on which has become a mess due to my computer being a dinosaur but I'll see where that catastrophe goes.
But yeah maka, soul and crona have just gotten the bombshell of their situation and are trying to comprehend it. Yet it seems crona knows something they don't. What that could be, well your just gonna have to wait till chapter 4!
And also if your wondering who ezio is, he's not a OC i assure you, for those who have read the my hero academia prequel spin-off "my hero academia:vigilantes" you should know ezio is an important character who was around for allmights debut six years ago. But for those who haven't read the spin-off manga...
SPOILERS...
...
If you have read the manga you'd know he was supposedly killed by one of all for ones minions number six and I've decided to bring him into this story by writing my own take on what happened to him afterwards. That being ezio having surviving the failed assassination attempt and living to this day to solve our heroes situation.
Also if you've read the recent chapters of my hero academia, specifically for the aftermath of the war arc, you should know that doctor moshi is the name I gave for the clear as day yoshi based doctor we see talk to aizawa in that chapter. A very fitting name for a side character based off the adorable green dinosaur.
If only yoshi didn't have to carry around a baby that sounded like a hundred banshee's screaming together.
Also yes, that moogle segment is actually a legitimate fact in BHNA. Their world doesn't have google but instead 'moogle' a recent tidbit found in the chapters of the manga, and something I felt should be added.
And also I think it's time to introduce a new feature im adding every new chapter for now on, that being review responses. That way I can respond to your reviews and clarify some questions you have in the story going forward.
Now then let's get on with it!
Yellowpikmin88: I'm so glad you love the story so far, it's great to hear its this good! Also it's too soon say what's going to happen but you'll have to stay for the ride. Also yeah I too am a major maka X crona shipper and wish there were many more fics on this relationship, seriously it's criminal how there only a handful of good stories revolving around that ship.
BM33:don't worry I don't plan on abandoning nor EVER delete this story. There might be long waits for certain chapters but I'm here for the long haul.
Guest:trust me maka, crona and soul are gonna be in some shenanigans here and there, but While I can't answer your questions without spoiling anything it's all gonna come into place sooner or later.
Lastapplepie: No crona, soul and maka aren't going to be in some special class and why would I? Why would I write an entire class of OC's that'll never compare to the ones already presented to us. So in the end there going to class 1-A, and if your wondering how? Well...I'm gonna be cheating a bit but it'll work out.
Guest:it takes place ten months before Izuku came to U.A.
Darkrain4Eternity: glad your loving it!
Battyfoox:thanks man!
The tower of pimps: yeah I know, crona is easily one of my favorite characters in soul eater and should be more involved in crossovers.
JoannaPycia: I'm happy you enjoyed the fight scenes!
Onishin Ksukitenshi: don't worry I've addressed the plot hole in the first chapter and I've made it more cryptic for them to understand. Also the next chapter should address your other concern.
Darren: I haven't planned nor meant to make maka weak by any means! She will kick plenty of ass but it's due to maka and soul needing to hold back against mirko to prevent themselves from seriously hurting her.
Los: yeah the ships will be handled at a certain pace. Though for izuku I plan on having a relationship with a girl as well in this story. As who well your gonna have to wait and see.
Dmandog056: thanks for your criticism! You have no idea how useful it was, your review seriously helped me evolve my writing to better standards eventually so thanks for giving me my first review!
And for all the others thank you for your support and hope you enjoy future chapters in the future!
Next time: ezio desperate for answers tries to wrap his mind with what he's just learned as with bizarre information coming to him he is forced to call an old friend for help.
Maka, crona and soul meanwhile try to comprehend what they themselves have learned as crona reveals a secret that'll change everything. But will they handle the truth?
What did you guys think of me adding a character from my hero academia:vigilantes? Do you like it, dislike it or think it's intriguing? Please share your opinion on it as I would definitely want to know how you thought of my decision to add him in.
So, please review, favorite and follow. And like last chapter feel absolutely free to suggest ideas or comment/critique about this chapter. That is as long as there's no haters/flames of course than it will be fine.
Hope you all are satisfied with this one and I'll see all in chapter 4!
Shados960 out!
