Part 3
*Norlangarth Empire, Sustnel Mountains*
After hours of walking through a forest and fighting off monsters. The four have finally reached Zakkaria, right before night hit.
"We're finally here... So this is Zakkaria..." Eugeo said
"This place look's really nice If I say so myself." Sonic said
"That means we're gonna split up now, right?" Kirito said
"Yes. You three did make the journey interesting. though, don't take that as thanks." Medina said
"You're not very hoinmest, are you?"
"That again? You're as irritating as ever. Well, goodbye."
Medina walk's away from Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic. Never to interact with the three again.
"And there she goes." Sonic said
"She really left..."
"She's got something on her mind already. But so do we, right?" Kirito said
"Yeah, we do." Eugeo said
"That is correct." Sonic said
"Okay, let's get to it.
"Several days after we left Rulid Village, we arrived in Zakkaria. There, we learned of a tournament that acted as the test for the Zakkaraia guard. It was in five months, and then the only winner of each block could join the guards. Eugeo, Sonic, and I stayed on a farm near Zakkaria where we spent our days practicing. Sonic will usually practice on his own in places where no one can watch him. He's been getting stronger and stronger as days go by. Anyway, fortunately, we were placed in opposite blocks, so we could both succeed. Sonic and I used our Aincrad Style to reverse a trap set by our opponents, my opponent was Egome. In the end, Eugeo, Sonic, and I won our blocks, so we got to join the guards. Six months later, we were invited to the Imperial Swordcraft Academy's exam. Three of us landed in the top twelve, ranking highly among the Primary Trainees. And Elite Disciples had to choose pages from that list. The second-ranked "Walking Tactics Manual," Sortiliena Serlut, chose Sonic and I. Apprantly it was rare to see the top ranked to choose two other top ranked but somehow went threw with it. Oh, And Golgorosso Balto, a tough guy who rose up from the guards, chose Eugeo. We would study for two years to win the Four-Empire Unification Tournament. Then, we would become Integrity Knights and enter Axiom Churhc's Central Cathedral. Eugeo needed to save Alice, and Sonic and I needed to make contact with the outside world. And so, we appraoched the beginning of our academy days with our own goals in mind."
*Central Centoria*
Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic were outside the Academy building talking to each other.
"Sonic, they don't have any outfits for you?" Kirito asked
"No, they didn't expect a Hedgehog like me to join something like this and actually wield a sword. But to be honest, I prefer being like this. My normal self." Sonic said
"I didn't know Swordcraft Academy taught history on top of swordcraft." Eugeo said
"Is it really fun for you?" Kirito said
"I prefer Swordcraft thank you very much." Sonic said
"I like history, and haven't studied it in quite a while. How about you?"
"But we have test too. Heh, even here I have to study for test!" Kirito said
"And wait for you twice as long." Sonic said
"Even here?" "Twice as long?""
"Oh, uh, it's nothing." Kirito said
"Ummm... I didn't mean to say that! Sorry about that." Sonic said
"But still, it hardly feels real. Passing the test and getting in here with you." Eugeo said
"You really helped out guarding Zakkaria, Eugeo. You've really gotten stronger." Kirito said
"I still have far to go. You two scored better on the entrance test, Kirito. Sonic." Eugeo said
"Well, We are suppose to be teaching you! We can't have you passing us just yet!" Kirito said
"Remember, Eugeo. Practice more and you'll become strong like us." Sonic said
"Ahaha! I guess you're right."
"I'm must glad we all made it into the top 12 on the entrance test. But I didn't realize there was a "page" system!" Kirito said
"No kidding. I was suprised too."
"Integrity Pilot Laurannei Arabel have to pass a level test to move up to the second academy year. The 12 students with the highest scores are desinhated as "Elite Disciples." They're considered the best of the best. An Elite Disciple is assigned a page to help woth training and daily life. Pages are chosen from among the top twelve new enrolless in the academy."
"They're pretty strict, only allowing 12 Elite Disciples each year."
"Yeah, but now that we're pages, we don't have to clean our dorms anymore. And training with the Elite Disciples is sure to help us hone our skills!"
"Ah!"
"Eugeo?" Sonic said
"What is it, Eugeo?"
"Kirito, we forgot something really important!"
"We did?"
"Our assigned Elite Disciples told us to come to their rooms after class! Hurry! I'm off to the men's dorm. You've gotta hurry to the women's! They told us to come before the next bell between classes. Let's go!"
"Oh, right, that! See you later, then!"
"I introduced myself when you became my page, allow me to do so once more. I am Elite Disciple Sortiliena Serlut. We'll be training together for a year." Soriliena introducing herself
"I'm Kirito. I'm looking foward to our time together." Kirito introducing himself
"I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog. But you can call me Sonic. Anyway, I'm also looking foward to work together." Sonic introducing himself
"As my page, you'll be accompaying me on my training every day from here on. I'll likely ask you to run errands for me and to clean my room, and so forth." Sortiliena said
"I understand. I'll do my very best to be helpful." Kirito said
"I understand. I'll also do my very best to be helpful." Sonic said
"The only errands I run is saving the world from an evil scientist while defeating his weak robots in the process. Not clean up rooms. Kirito, you'll be doing that mostly." Sonic thought
"Glad to hear it. I'll emdeavor to teach you all I know of the military arts. Now then, let's begin. Join me for some training."
"Of course."
"Got it."
"Also, please put some clothes on." Sortiliena looking at Sonic
"T-They didn't have any sizes that fit me." Sonic said
*Training Ground*
"To start, attack however you like."
"However we like?"
"Yes. I was impressed by your moves in the entrance test. I been itiching to cross blades with you two ever since." Sortiliena said
"Sortiliena is elite even among the Elite Disciples. She's second from the top. So why did she choose Sonic and me, when I only came from seventh and Sonic in 4th."
"What's wrong? Go ahead, attack."
"Right!"
"As you wish!"
Minutes later, the three were using wooden swords as they were ready to duel. The three-starred at each other with concentration looks on their faces. Kirito slowly walked around Sortiliena as he waited for an attack. Seconds later, Kirito charges at Sortiliena and attacks her with multiple slashes. Sortiliena easily blocks Kirito's attacks and counters with her attacks at Kirito. Kirito managed to get hit by three attacks and gets pushed back. Sonic notices an opening from Sortiliena and takes advantage of it as he quickly runs toward Sortiliena and attacks her. He manages to hit hurt with his attacks with were fast not to get blocked quick enough.
"She's all yours." Kirito jumping back
Sonic and Sortiliena starred at each other as they walked slowly around each other with their swords drawn. Sortiliena charges her sword and performs a strong sword attack at Sonic. But Sonic backflips away from the attack just in time. Once Sonic stepped back, he notices Sortiliena charging at him at full speed. Sonic charges at Sortiliena as well and soon both clash swords together. As the two were trying to let go of the other sword from their grip. Kirito charged at Sortiliena from behind while charging up his sword. Sortiliena took notice and jump's away from them. Sonic notices Kirito charging right at him and slashes. Sonic quickly slashes and clangs his sword with Kirito's, knocking him back to prevent him from hitting Sonic.
"Try to be careful next time." Sonic said
"Sorry about that." Kirito said
Kirito notices Sortiliena charging behind Sonic, ready to attack him from behind.
"Sonic, watch out!"
Sonic quickly turns both slam swords once again. Soon, the two begin attacking each other, trying to land a hit but both were just slamming swords over and over super fast.
"Whoa... I never seen Sonic block that many attacks before. He never did something like this in the tournaments before." Kirito thought
Moments later, Sortiliena and Sonic perform one last attack at the same time and knocked both back away from each other. Kirito took notice of another opening, quickly get's up, and charges at Soertiliena. Sortiliena notices Kirito charging at her and attempts to block his attack but Kirito was faster and takes a few hits from Kirito's attack.
"Switch!"
Kirito move's aside as Sonic jumps and performs a fast combo at Sortiliena. Scratch marks ripped some parts of Sortiliena's outfit due to the combo. Soon after, Sonic lands one more attack at Sortiliena and jumps away soon after.
"It seems that you have been holding back in the tournaments you participated in. You used a few new moves against me, huh? I respect that." Sortiliena said
"Thanks. I always wanted to duel against swordsmen that can keep on my attack and speed. And I found the perfect opponent." Sonic said
"Now then, let's settle this you two." Sortiliena said
Kirito and Sonic all get into their position, ready to go all out.
"As you wish."
The three-starred at one another for a long time. Silence filled the room as the three kept starring at each other. Eventually, Kirito makes the first move and charges at Sortiliena. Sortiliena also charges at Kirito as the two attacks each other over and over. Blocking and hitting one another. Sonic on the other hand just stood behind them in the same position, starring down at Sortiliena.
"Time to finish this." Sonic whispered
Sonic summons the wooden sword's scabbard and puts his wooden sword in it. Kirito and Sortiliena stop attacking each other and start at Sonic who had a serious look on his face while green eyes were glowing. Kirito jumps back as well as Sortiliena as Sonic unsheaths and resheaths his wooden sword. Not even a second later, blue slashes appear everywhere around Sonic and explode soon after.
"Whoa..." Kirito in shock
"Amazing." Sortiliena said
"What was that move Sonic?" Kirito asked
Sonic blinked twice and looks around the room to see the place covered in slashes.
"I-I think I took this duel a little serious. Sorry. Also, It's one of many heavy attacks I was able to learn in the years of training." Sonic said
"You know Sonic, If you used those skills like that in your test. You would've achieved 1st instead of 4th place in the top 12." Sortiliena said
"I like to go easy on things like these, so I don't really mind." Sonic said
Later...
"Phew..."
"Glad my training paid off. But I'm not done yet. I still have a lot to learn." Sonic said
"Well done you two. Just as I thought when I saw you test, you've got a knack for this."
"No... it was all I could do to deflect your sword."
"Sortiliena's skills are different from any others I've sen in this world. I'm aiming to win. I saw many skills in this test: she was faster than Norkia." Kirito thought
"Sortiliena, what were the skills you used just now to block our swords?"
"That was Flowering Water, an advanced technique of the Serlut Style. Let's your opponent's attack slide off your blade, then throw them off balance."
"Not gonna lie. That's a nice name for a technique." Sonic said
"I see. It was so unexpected I was thrown off." Kirito said
"This Serlut Style has been passed down through my family."
"Serlut Style... Sortiliena, please teach me that style. Also Sonic, please teach me that skill you did with the slashes around the room." Kirito said
"W-Wait... what? Kirito, that move is very hard to perform. Only super fast swordsmen can perform such a move like that." Sonic said
"But I... It's just that..."
"I won't push if you'd rather not. But I sensed a strength in your styles that I haven't seen anywhere else." Kirito said
Sortiliena and Sonic look at each other.
"Alright, then, I'll spend the next year teaching you Serlut Style." Sortiliena accepting's Kirito request
"Sure, I'll teach you how to do that skill I did just now whenever we have free time. So just give me heads up when your ready to train together." Sonic said
"But now it's my turn. Tell me about your own techniques. I've never seen a skill like what you used. Just what style DO you use?"
"-It's called Aincrad Style." Sonic both said
"-It's called Aincrad Style." Kirito both said
"For the most part." Sonic said
"Ah. A fine name. I'd like you two to show me more. I look forward to learning more about it."
"We're honered. We plan to work hard under your swordsmanship training."
"We won't disappoint you." Sonic said
"It won't be just swordsmanship. We'll be training with whips and things too." Sortiliena said
"What now?" Sonic said
"W-Will we?"
"Yes. You'd do well to look forward to it. Now then, that's all for today's training. I know you're tired, but after you rest a bit, please bring your friend here."
"You mean Eugeo""
"Yes. I'll explain when you're both here."
"Alright, will let him know."
"Thank you. Oh, and you two. You can call me Liena."
"Huh?:
"Liena, huh?" Sonic said
"That's what my friends call me, we'll be spending much of our time together." Sortiliena said
"Alright then, Liena."
"Good. I'll see you both later. I gotta switch outfits anyway." Sortiliena said
"Yea, sorry for messing up your outfit. But anyway, You two can leave without me. I gotta stay back and fix this place." Sonic said
*Later*
"Hey, Eugeo. Got a minute?" Kirito said
"Huh? Oh, Kirito..."
"You alright? You look exhausted."
"Yeah. Golgorosso's something else! I'm sure I'll get way stronger this year."
"I-I see. Sounds tough, but I'm glad you're happy. Sorry to bother you when you're tired, but Sortiliena wants to see us." Kirito said
"Huh? Me too?"
"Yeah. She said she'd explain the we're both there with Sonic as well."
"Sure. Just give me a moment to get ready. By the way, where's Sonic?" Eugeo said
"He stayed behind to do something real quick. But he'll join us." Kirito said
*With Sortiliena*
"Liena?"
"Hey there again, Liena." Sonic said
"Oh, you're all here."
"Hello, Sortileina. I'm Primary Trainee Eugeo. It's a pleasure to meet you." Eugeo introducing himself
"Yes, Eugeo. It's nice to meet you too. Now that you're all here, I'll explain why I summoned you. Swordcraft Academy has received a few work requests from the Centoria guard." Sortiliena said
"From the guard?"
"Yes. As you know, beasts have been acting up lately, and guard is overworked."
"So they're asking the academy to help with the jobs they can't get to?" Kirito said
"Correct. But officially, we'll be calling these extracurricular lessons."
"Hmm... It kinda feels like the guard is just using us." Eugeo said
"Don't let it get you down, Eugeo. Now we can walk and fight freely in the northern empire without an application." Kirito said
"Yeah, I guess you're right. It doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way."
"The academy requires at least three people to participate in each "lesson." I've heard that this rule may exist because of the great number of beasts." Sortiliena said
"I see. So that's why you called us?"
"Yes. Gologorosso agrees that this will be a splendid battle experience for Eugeo. Would you three be willing to join me for these extracurricular lessons?"
"I'm all for it!" Sonic accepting
"Of course. Gladly!" Kirito accepting
"Yes, I will too." Eugeo accepting
"Good. Then I'll tell the academy that we officially accept these assignments. In the meantime, can you three prepare whatever it is you'll need to take along?" Sortiliena said
"Sure. We'll get it all ready." Kirito said
"Thank you the three of you. I expect some new moves to come from you Sonic during the lesson." Sortiliena said
"Depends on the type of beasts on how strong or how many there will be." Sonic said
"Oh, I forgot to mention one thing. I need some medicine. Could you buy some at the market in the capital?"
"Leave it to me!" Kirito said
"I'll take care if the shia. I wouldn't give it to Kirito if I were you..."
"Wh-Why not?!"
"Hehe. I'll see you back here after you're done shopping. You'll find it at a shop on the left in the market. A woman named Quisera runs it." Sortiliena said
"What are we waiting for let's get going." Sonic said
Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic headed off to the capital to buy the medicine. As they were just about to exit the campus, they notice a familiar person walking past them.
"Well, well, well. Look who decided to pass us." Sonic said
"It's been a while, Medina." Kirito saying hello
"What? Medina?! You're right... It is Medina!" Eugeo said
Medina turns and look's at them.
"You did say you were training, so I'm not surprised we're meeting at the academy." Eugeo said
"... Are you don? I'm in a hurry?" Medina said
"H-Hey now, it's been a while, so we have a lot of catching up to do." Kirito said
"There's nothing I want to talk about." Medina said
"Come on, Kirito. If she doesn't want to talk, then it's fine. We don't want to force her." Sonic said
"Aw come on, Don't be like that you two! We talk about you all the time!"
"Yeah! Even when we were busy with the tournament and life among the guards. We've been worrying about you this whole time." Eugeo said
"The time I spent with you was short. You are not obligated to talk to me."
"What happened to you, Medina?"
"Oh, would you look at that, Humbert. She's from the Orthinanos family."
"They may be commoners, but that's awfully rude. Nobles wouldn't dare approach her."
"It's understandable. The Orthinanos family is unique even among nobles."
"Indeed... I look forward to spending time together at the academy."
"As do I, Antinous and Zizek. I was a bit thrown by your phrasing, but I've noted your praise for Orthinanos." Medina said before walking away
"Hmph. Let's go, Humbert."
Antinous and Zizek walk away as well. Leaving Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic behind.
"Who were they?" Sonic said
"So, I guess Medina's a noble."
"Right. Sp she could've take the test without entering the tournament. But even so."
"Let's follow-through, Kirito."
Kirito nod's
*With Medina*
In the training from outside the building. Medina trained with a dummy with her wooden sword.
'*sigh*"
"Medi-"
Medina slashes the wooden log several times.
"Ugh... I can't stand this, I can't stand this, I can't stand this... Can't stand this, can't stand this. can't stand this, can't stand this... Can't STAND THIS!"
The log snaps and falls to the ground.
"Medina?"
"Wha?!"
Medina turns and notices Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic standing there and watching her.
"Ah... Kirito, Eugeo, and SOnic. Pardon me... I just couldn';t contain my anger at Raios' words." Medina apologizing
"AMAZING!" Kirito said
"Er?"
"Especialluy that last blow! How did you manage that?"
"I... don't know. By the time I realized, I'd already done it. You saw me like that, and all you ask about is my technique?"
"He won't change his attitude toward you just because you were acting unusual." Eugeo said
"Typical Kirito." Sonic said
"I... suppose Kirito woldn't do that."
"So this is where you've been, Medina."
"Do you need something?"
"I thought we should talk things over one more time. Come see me after school, okay?"
"Okay."
"And that was..."
"Don't worry about him. He's just a friend."
"..."
"Really! I mean it."
"Alright. I believe you." Kirito said
"Yeah, me too." Eugeo said
"I suppose I'll believe you for the time being." Sonic said
"You guys seriously haven't changed at all." Medina said
"haha, feeling nostalgic?" Kirito said
"You could say that."
"I'm glad we were able to meet again, Medina." Kirito said
"Yeah, it's good to have you." Eugeo said
"Always happy to meet you, Medina." Sonic said
*Later*
Kirito, Eugeo, and Sonic were at the capital looking for the medicine that Sortiliena requested them to buy for her. They passed many small shops until they make it to their place.
"Greetings, traveler. In search of medicinal herbs? Of course."
"Let's head to the meeting point, then."
"Yeah, let's get going."
*Back At The Academy*
"Liena!"
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
"Right, then. Are you three ready for our extracurricular lessons?"
"Yes! We couldn't be more ready." Kirito said
"We're good to go whenever you are."
"Let's get this show on the road!" sonic said
"I'm counting on you three. Now then, let's work together and clear this extracurricular lesson."
"Oh, neat. We can go beyond the capital border with the carriages by the academy.
"I will warn you, it is terribly bumpy ride. Try not to get sick."
"Are you kidding? A bumpy ride won't stop me. i been threw worse terrains." Sonic said
"That's slightly unsettling..."
"Haha. fear not, my Eugeo! If you start feeling bad, I'll gladly rub your back!"
"Why do you two sound so enthusiastic?" Eugeo said
"It's not so bad once you get used to it, though. Let's head out, then."
*Cordea Plains*
"Let's make our way to the destination."
"-Yeah!"
"-Yeah!"
"-Yeah!"
The four continue walking past the Cordea Plains. Walking through the green field, passing through homes, a forest-like area. Fighting off giant like spiders on their way and defeating them. After fending off the spider-like monsters. A bigger spider-like beast appears and charges at the four. Kirito and Sortiliena both jump above the beast and attack the beast with strong attacks. Eugeo and Sonic both charge up their swords and perform a deadly combo at the beast, slashing the beast all around its the body. Sonic jump's over the beast and it gets behind it. He charges up his sword and stabs the beast multiple times very fast and finishes it with a powerful stab. Sortiliena charges up her sword and releases heavy slashes at the beast. The beast counters and explodes with poison squirting around it. The four were able to quickly dodge it in time. Kirito and Eugeo both charge at the beast and
"Well, we hadnlded that without incident." Sortiliena said
"Great team work during that fight you guys." Sonic said
"Yeah, it was no problem for the four of us together!" Kirito said
"heh."
"Whhat ios it, Eugeo?"
"You sure seem to be in good spirits." Sortiliena said
"Uh, n-not really. It's nothing."
"What is it? Tell us!"
"Now I'm curious as well." Sortiliena said
"And be honest with us." Sonic said
"Uhhh... it's really no big deal. It's just that the four of us traveling together reminded me of old times..."
"Old times?" Kirito said
"What do you mean by that?" Sonic asked
"Yeah. Back when we were kids in Rulidd, we used to explore like this every day. We followed Alice everywhere. We went all over the place and got in so much trouble. It just got me all sentimental. It's sad, but nice at the same time." Eugeo said
"I gotcha..."
"They must be fond memories."
"Very. If only things could be like that again..."
"they can."
"Haha, no way..."
"They really can. I'm sure someday Alice and Selka and you can explore together again." Kirito said
"Selka?"
"Yeah, Selka. You think she'd turn down a chance to go out exploring?" Kirito said
"N-No, that's not what I meant. I was definitely feeling nostalgic walking around in a trio like this. But it wasn't Selka I was thinking of. I never went out exploring with her." Eugeo said
"But you said four people..." Kirito said
"Right, me and Alice and... who were they? Why did I think it was four people?" Eugeo said
"You okay, Eugeo?"
"Your starting to lose focus." Sonic said
"Y-Yeah."
"If you're tired, let me know. I don't want to push you too hard." Sortiliena said
"I-I'm fine. ..."
"Eugeo..."
*Night-Time, North Centoria Imperial Swordcrfat Academy*
"Hey, Eugeo, can you remind me what the Academy rules are again?" Kirito said
"How could you forget those, Kirito? You're lucky you haven't been expelled! All students of Swordcraft Academy have to follow the academy rules. If you break them, you'll be punished or even expelled, so be careful!" Eugeo said
"They have to catch me first if they want to expell me." Sonic said
"So, what aren't we allowed to do?"
"Well, first of all, you can't break anything on the grounds."
"Got it. So even if I'm pissed off. I'd better not kick a wall or anything."
"O-Oh... Glad that no one was there during our Training session." Sonic eyes widen
"And you have to obey the curfew..."
"Why are you staring at me like that, Eugeo?"
"I'm just a little worried about a certain serial offender."
"Do I really break curfew that often? Sometimes I'm out late helping Liena." Kirito said
"You use that excuse every time, and that's a lot of times!"
"R-Really? Okay, I'll be careful. I can't afford to get expelled." Kirito said
"Thanks. I appreciate the effort. You also can't show any disrespect to the Elite Disciples." Eugeo said
"Disrespect? Like taking back, or what?"
"That too, I'm sure, but anything they feel is disrespectful can be punished." Eugeo said
"Yikes. So they can punish you even if you're not really doing anything?"
"You won't be expelled for it. Apparently the Elite Disciples can punish you though." Eugeo said
"At least that's far better then the top. Being punished by the Elite Disciples then the heads." Sonic said
"Expulsion or not, that's pretty scary..."
"Understand the rules now, Kirito?"
"Mhm! Inside and out!"
"Are you sure?"
"You can believe him for the most part." Sonic said
"Hey, Sonic, are you treated differently in the Academy because of how you are not a human but an animal?" Kirito said
"To be honest, I don't really care. If they want to talk, they can just come to me and have a conversation. Beside that, I'm mostly doing my own things around." Sonic said
"Do the Elite Disciples know what you are doing during important hours?" Eugeo said
"No, not really? Besides, I mostly sit out and spend most of my time with you two. A-And yes, I have snucked out the Academy to go train on my own." Sonic said
"R-Really?!" Kirito said
"Haha.
*North Centoria Imperial Swordcraft Academy - Morning*
"Morning, Kirito. We've got exams today." Eugeo said
"At long last. Did you sleep well, Eugeo?"
"I would've slept better if SOMEONE hadn't kept me up talking about strategy."
"Ahaha... Sorry." Kirito apologzing
"It's fine. I had fun, and I learned a lot. Let's get going, though."
"What are you waiting for you two, come on!"
Kirito and Eugeo turn and notice Sonic waving them over to hurry.
First Placement Exam
"We Primary Trainess have our abilities tested four times a year. We are judged on swordolay, martial forms, Sacred Arts, and a written exam. We are about to take the swordplay exam. Like the entrance, the swordplay exam is judged by a duel with an instructor."
"Phew..."
"You nervous, Eugeo?"
"Yeah, a little."
"Remember, Eugeo. Your stronger then before. You gained more confidence and that's the goal." Sonic said
"It'll be fine. You practiced every day and you even had that special training with Golgorosso!"
"True."
"Don't be modest. What Sonic just said, you need right now is self-confidence."
"Self-confidence?"
"Yup. You can do it. We all can."
"Yeah. See you later, you two."
"If it isn't Primary Trainee Kirito and Primary Trainee Sonic! Here to show off your peculiar arts again?" Humbert said
"Humbert, they can't help being peculiar. It's all the boors know. But there is a place at the academy even for clowns." Raios said
"Truth! Their failure to grasp the spirit of the High-Nokria Style IS pitiable."
"The exam is starting. You'll lose points if you're late." Kirito said
"Now let's get going you two." Sonic said
"Ha! The pleasamts counsels us! Such a lack of respect!" Humbert said
"Humbert, you mustn't forget the peasants lack our common courtesy." Raios said
"I suppose you're right."
The two walk away from Kirito and Sonic.
"It's best to ignore them, but this isn't exactly brightening my day. I have toget into the right attitude."
"It's okay, Kirito. We been told worse then this. Doesn't affect me at all."
And so the three perform their exams separately, completitng task of their skills they learned.
"That was great you two."
"Nothing compared to the rank you got, Eugeo! Espiecally, Sonic. Good job."
"Thanks. It was a lot easier then I thought." Sonic said
"Eugeo and I both pleaced in the top ten. Sonic reached the top 3."
"We all did great. I'm glad."
"If we didn't get in the top twelve by the last exam, we couldn't be Elite Disciples. We still need to get stronger to take on the Central Cathedral, though..." Eugeo said
"We're just getting started, Eugeo." Sonic said
"I'm glad you're fired up, but don't tax yourself!"
"Tax myself. Isn't that the empire's job?"
"Oh, uhh... I mean you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew." Kirito said
"Yeah. You're right."
Later...
"Raios is thirteenth. Humbert twlfth..." Kirito said
"Wow. Such places for them. Thought they would've been higher." Sonic said
"I don't care for them, but they are eloquent, I'll give them that. ONLY that."
"Yeah. I didn't see their fight though, so I don't know what to say. Anyway, the Sacred Arts and written exams are tomorrow. Eugeo, Sonic, I need your help!" Kirito said
"Did you think you could just cram the night before again?! What did I tell you?"
"*Sigh* Why does there have to be a written exam?"
"I never signed up for this. I thought it was just going to be training. Not writing." Sonic said
*Night*
"Say, Eugeo, got some time to talk about Sacred Arts?" Kirito said
"Yeah, sure."
A few minutes later...
"Thanks for helping me review, Eugeo."
"Glad to help. But let's study together again before the test in case you forget!" Eugeo said
"I ussally only remember stuff for test if I pull a last-minute all-nighter."
"Seriously? But then you're almost certain to forget it all after the test!" Eugeo said
"Uh, I'll try harder this time..."
"I sure hope so."
*Morning*
"Hey, Medina! Man, it sure is hot today, huh!" Kirito said
"Not especially. I'm used to the heat."
"Damn, I wish I could say the same. This is reminds me, there's this shop in the capital that sells cold fruit drinks. Eugeo, Sonic, and I are going to the next day of rest. You wanna come with, Medina?" Kirito said
"Huh? No. I'm busy."
"Aww, you're no fun. The place with the ADORBALE pet shop cat serves great drinks." Kirito said
"How about we bring you one? Does that sound good?" Sonic asked
"Wh-Wh-Wh-WHAT?! Did I hear you right?!" Medina shock
"Hmm? What areyou shouting about?"
"N-Nothing, nothing. I'm not interest AT ALL. Your tricks will NOT work on me! Bye!" Medina before walking away
"Er... what'a gotten into her? I don't recall using any tricks. Anyway, let's make our way to campus." Kirito said
"Yeah, sounds good."
*Afternoon*
"Kirito, Sonic, do you have a minute? I need your help with something."
"Yea, okay why not." Sonic said
"Sure, what's up?" Kirito said
*Training Ground*
"It's been a while since you two instructed me in Aincrad Style." Eugeo said
"Yeah. We've been training with our seniors ever since we became pages." Kirito said
"So much so we haven't done it in a while." Sonic said
"I wanted to polish my Aincrad Style for the next exam. Golgorosso's moves are bold and they get the job done at the right time... But you two were my first teachers." Eugeo said
"That's a nice thing to say. Thank you, Eugeo." Sonic pleased
"I'm honored. To be honest, we been wanting to train with you this whole time." Kirito said
"Heh heh. I'm counting on you two."
"Leave it to us."
A few minutes later, Eugeo, Kirito, and Sonic were dueling, practicing for the exam. Sonic charges at Eugeo first and slashes him a few times in which Eugeo blocks each attack easily. Sonic continues attacking with weaker attacks until his his sword starts to glow, making his attacks a little harder. Sonic unleashes stronger and faster attacks at Eugeo. Eugeo, using more of his strength. Continues blocking each of Sonic's move. He waits for an opportunity to counter. As Sonic attempts to attack Eugeo onces more, Eugeo finds an opening and counters with an attack. Sonic jump's back in time before the wooden sword could make contact with him. Once Sonci jumps away, Kirito charges at Eugeo and performs a Sonic leap at Eugeo. Eugeo jumps back from the attack and attempts to counter Kirito with a strong attack. Kirito charges at Eugeo and both slash at the same with strong attacks. Kirito charges up his sword and performs a quick combo at Eugeo. Eugeo manages to block the attack in time but gets pushed back after the attack. Kirito charges at Eugeo once again and this time, both clash swords as the two start slashing each other over and over and blocking one another. After several strong slashes, Eugeo finds an opening and attacks Kirito quickly. Kirito getting hit in the process and pushed back. Eugeo attempts to attack Kirito while being stunned but Sonic jumps right over Kirito and performs a spnning sword attack on Eugeo. Eugeo jumps aside as Sonic lands on the ground, only hitting the ground. Eugeo took the opportunity to attack Sonic but Sonic was faster, jumps over Eugeo and lands behind him. Kirito comes back from being stunned as both him and Sonic were looking at Eugeo in both sides. The two unleash their Super Arts as they both jump back, charge up their swords, leap foward and perform powerful attacks at Eugeo. The attack was so quick, it looked like Kirito and Sonic slash twice. Soon after, Eugeo kneels in the floor, sweating and breathing heavily.
"Alright, let's stop for now." Eugeo breathing heavily
A few moments later...
"*Breathing* Aincrad Style is made for battle. It's not easy to master." Eugeo said
"Really? You had a handle on it. You've gotten good." Kirito said
"You grew stronger and faster, Eugeo. Proud of you." Sonic said
"You two taught me lots of techniques, so I'm making sure to pratice them all."
"Lots, huh? We Haven't taught him everything. My sword's Priority isn't high enough yet. A sword with high priority... Maybe with a sword like Eugeo's Blue Rose... But he can't use his sword while we have it. How can we teach him like that?"
"You two are odd ones." Eugeo said
"Odd ones?" Sonic said
"Wha?"
"You appeared with no memories, but you remember everything about swordplay. Swordsman must have been your Callings. But why did you forget everything?" Eugeo said
"I don't know. Maybe we had an accident and bonked our heads." Kirito said
"A very painfully bonk." Sonic said
"If so, you might have family and friends somewhere out there waiting for you." Eugeo said
"We... just might." Kirito looking sad
"They might even be finding us as we speak. Maybe one day will see them again." Sonic said
"Hey, do you two..."
"Do we what?"
"What is it?"
"Never mind... Let's spar some more after a little break."
"Sounds good."
"Sure why not." Sonic said
*A Few Minutes Later*
"Hmm? Oh, that's Medina over there... in a sword match against a teacher?" Kirito said
"Oh, it is her." Sonic said
"Hyaah!"
Medina attacks the teacher a few times with her sword skills.
"Her sword moves so fast!" Kirito thought
"Very impressive." Sonic thought
"Ngh! E-Enough! The match is over!"
"Ahhh... Hah! Whew..."
"Impressive swordamanship, Primary Trainee Medina Orthinanos. But your fighting skill is still rough. You must train to strengthen your mind."
"Right. I'll work on that."
"Amazing. She held her own against a teacher. If anything, she was winning."
"Now then, I'll be going."
"Thank you."
The teacher walks away.
*Later*
"You're amazing, Medina!" Kirito said
"Oh, it's you. Do you need something?"
"Sorry. Sonic and I just happened by. We saw your match just now." Kirito said
"It was pretty amazing." Sonic said
"I see. And?"
"We were impressed by how fast you are with a blade. You could have won at that rate."
"If you have no business with me, I'll take my leave."
"Whoa. Just as cold as always..."
"W-Wait! All I need is some business, right? Umm..."
"No reason to be here. Just as I thought."
Medina walk's away from Kirito and Sonic.
"We're never going to have a full conversation with her." Sonic said
"W-Wait!"
*Several Minutes Later*
"Mew! Mew!"
"Did you hear that?" Sonic said
"Yea. What was that?" Kirito said
"Mew..."
"A cat..."
"Mew..."
"Medina?"
"Oh, it's you two."
"Mew..."
"It doesn't look so good... Could it be hungry? We have to feed it." Kirito said
"Poor cat." Sonic said
"What are you saying?! Surely you know that feeding animals in the fields is taboo!" Medina said
"What?! It is?!" Kirito shock
"Don't tell me you didn't know."
"Oh come on, such rules can't stop me from feeding the poor cat. Besides, I'm not from he- Uh, I-I mean. Of course, can't break rules. Haha..." Sonic said
"Man, I wish we were back to our own world." Sonic thought
"Pretty sure we fed a stray dog once... Did we break a taboo without knowing it?!"
"O-Of course I knew! Who wouldn't?" Kirito said
"It wouldn't matter to me anyway if you were caught breaking the Taboo Index. In any case, we can't do a thing for this cat. It's a shame..." Medina said
"Mew..."
"Urk..."
"Medina... You want to help it?"
"My feelings are of no concern. It's impossible."
"You're giving up too soon. I have an idea." Kirito said
"Idea?" Sonic said
"What's that?"
"If feeding starys is prohibited, why don't you just make it yours?" Kirito said
"Hey, not a bad idea, Medina." Sonic said
"Make it mine?"
"Then it wouldn't be a stray anymore. There's no way the owner would be prohibited from feeding their own animal!" Kirito said
"Of course not. How would farming work, then?"
"Right. So why not declare the cat yours so you can save it?"
"If I feed it every day, it will be saved from this cruel fate..." Medina said
"Mew?"
"... C-Can I pet you?"
"Mewww..."
Medina kneels down and starts petting the cat.
"Heehee, such thick fur. I promise I'll keep you safe."
Sonic kneels down as well and pets as well.
"That's a good kitty." Sonic gigglinh
"Huh? Did her tone just get softer?"
"I don't have any food right now. I'll go look for something in my room."
"I have something. It's jerky. I think it'd be okay for a cat."
"Since when have you ever had jerky?" Sonic said
"Thank you... but why do you always have jerky on you?" Medina said
"It's... for emergencies."
Kirito give's Medina the jerky as she feeds the cat.
"Here you go. It's from that gluttonous pig there." Medina said
Sonic looks away and giggles to himself from Medina's comment.
"Well that wasn't nice..." Kirito said
"Munch, munch... Nom, nom... Mew!"
"Is it good? I'll bring you something every day from now on!" Medina said
"I never would have pegged Medina for a cat person... Glad to knowshe can actually smile, though."
*Back At The Academy*
"Okay, let's start with generating heat." Eugeo said
"Alright. Generate Thermal Element." Kirito said
Kirito's hand glows.
"Now my turn. Generate Thermal Element." Sonic said
Sonic's hand glows as well.
"Oh, I did it!" Kirito said
"That went better then expected." Sonic said
"Good! Now I'll try. Generate Thermal Element."
Eugeo's hand glows.
"You did it too, Eugeo!"
"I did."
"So now we just have to release it somehow, right?"
"Yeah. Let's start with a normal release."
"Form Element: Arrow Shape! Fly Straight! Discharge!"
The element flew straight across the field.
"Huh? I told it to make an arrow shape, but it just took off without changing." Kirito said
"Well, yeah, that's a higher level skill. Didn't you read the textbook?" Eugeo said
"Yeah, but I thought I could do it if I tried."
"Form Element: Arrow Shape! Fly Straight! Discharge!" Sonic said
Sonic fires and th elememt flys striaght across the field. But as Kirito, it didn't form into an arrow.
"Welp, I tried." Sonic shrugging
"Did you forget what the teacher said? You have to train up your skills up first."
"Oh right, you need System Control Authority to use Sacred Arts too."
"Oh, yeah. So the Sacred Arts you can do are limited by your skill level." Kirito said
"Yes, that's right. I can't believe you forgot something so basic. I'm still worried about a certain someone who can't generate ice right." Eugeo said
"H-Hey, low blow, dude." Kirito said
"Wow, Kirito. Eugeo putting you on the spot." Sonic said
"But I suppose I can cover you there."
"You'd do that for me?"
"What are friends for? Of course I'll help with the things you have trouble with." Eugeo said
"Thanks, Eugeo. I really appreciate it. Alright, I'll just leave all the ice generation to you, then." Kirito said
"Hey, you can't just give up before you try! It'll affect your grades!" Eugeo said
"Oh, you're right."
"Guess I'd better raise my Authority as much as I can, then."
"Eugeo was later called on by an instructor, leaving Kirito and Sonic to their own devices."

"Liena?"
"Nice seeing you once again, Liena!" Sonic said
"Hey there you two. Oh, can you two and Eugeo join me for another extracurricular lesson?" Sortiliena said
"Yes, of course." Kirito accepting
"Sounds good to me." Sonic said
"Thank you. This lesson will take place on private property: land owned by nobles." Sortiliena said
"Okay. Will go ask Eugeo. Pretty sure he won't have any objections, though."
"Thanks. I'm glad to hear it."
*With Eugeo*
"Of course I'll go!"
"Alright! Let's get ready, then." Kirito said
"But...it is a little strange." Eugeo said
"What is?" Kirito asked
"Mind telling us?" Sonic said
"When you said we'd kill beasts om nobles' property, it reminded me of your question. You know, when you asked the teacher why there are nobles and commoners in the empire."
"Oh, you're right. And the teacher said..."
"The teacher quoted the prophecy of the Axiom Church. It was something like... "One day, fromthe four paths of the end Mountain- the Northern Cave, the Western Ravine, the Southerm Corridor, and the Eastern Gate- the forces of darkness wil attack. To protect our people, all guards and soldiers must fight to defeat these terrible creatures. The mobles will lead the army, and must train every day in preparation."
"Beautiful, Eugeo. Bravo." Sonic said
"A perfect recitation. Nicely done, Eugeo." Kirito impressed
"They wete really memorbale words! Makes this lesson feel kinda redundant."
"You're wondering why we have to defeat beasts for these oh-so-prepared nobles?"
"Exactly. Are they really going to completely ignore their duties? I'd understand if they were sick or something..."
"I doubt they're taking an extended sick leave. I'm guessing the fuards are so bust because the nobles aren't helping." Kirito said
"Then what good are the nobles in the first place?"
"Wish we could tell you."
"Sorry. No point worrying about that now. Let's get ready and meet Sortiliena."
"Yeah, Let's."
"Let's get going. We have more important stuff to do." Sonic said
