CHAPTER III

"No, child," the voice echoed throughout the barren air. Waves smashed against the sides of skyscrapers and buildings, the sky churned as lightning obliterated the landscape in the distance and the earth rumbled in rage. "Look what you have brought to heel," it commanded, making Perseus look up once more at his greatest failure. "Tell me Worldbreaker, was your intention to seize power and destroy this Earth?"

"No.." he stated numbly, and glanced at his hands covered in black dust, the three rings of fate shining maliciously in the light of the dying Sun. "I just wanted to save everyone….to save humanity,"

"By snuffing out the very pillars that supported the delicate balance of this world?" the overbearing force shot back smoothly.

"I thought I could control it all, all of their domains! All of their duties! I knew that killing a God had its consequences, a reaction from their domains as their essence called out to them one last time. But I always managed to prevent it before it got too bad, but something happened, I.. I.." his rambling died as it all hit him at once and he forced back a choking sob.

"Their power became too much to control, to hold. No one terrestrial immortal was ever meant to have such power all at once. And after all, you were only born a mortal, child." The voice sighed "This was never meant to be your destiny Perseus. But this world was one of many I had neglected for too long, fate and destiny ran amuck and were only bound by the Moirai. And so you, a child unbound by the strings of Fate itself became what you are now." Perseus gritted his teeth as he felt rage pour in.

"You said you'd grant my wish, just bring them back. Let me see them. I WANT TO SEE THEM AGAIN," he roared out, the world collapsing in on itself once more as the laughable control Perseus held for the innumerable domains failed yet again.

"You would be so cruel as to subject your mother, your lover and best friend to this world? One in which they would have no hope of surviving in?" It asked quietly, the voices becoming more focused as if whatever it was that spoke to him was gathering itself.

Perseus froze at that. The voice was right… he couldn't bring them back to this Tartarus on earth… he couldn't bear the thought of what they would think of him, of his actions. Would they accept that it was for them? For the good of all people? As his thoughts raced and his heart shattered even more at the hopelessness of it all, an idea struck. "If i'm right in thinking of who you are, then i know you can make it all right again," he took a shaky breath, his eyes roaming the sky, pleading and desperate. "Put everything back to the way it was, do whatever you have to do to make it so that the world isn't torn in two, bring humanity back."

"And if I do that Perseus, would you also want the Gods back, the Titans, the Giants? There MUST be a central force, a Pantheon in which to govern over the planet. Immortals are of utmost importance to the balance of a world. You cannot have what you so desperately fought for, little one. In all the worlds, in all of Creation, Immortals are a constant ruling force and part of the delicate balance of Life, one which you've disrupted here." The voice boomed, centering in front of Perseus. He blinked and suddenly something stood just a few paces away, staring down at him. He didn't flinch, he didn't move a muscle. There was no point in getting up or trying to fight and defend himself if it came to it.

"So what now, Chaos?"
