Harry was quite the conundrum for those in the house who did not expect her. She was different, that could not be ignored. It was perhaps that difference that caught the attention of one of the Weasley twins. Fred had of course heard the other kids in the house, Ron, Ginny, Hermione making comments on how she was completely batty, they had even taken to calling her Harry the headcase when none of the adults were around. Well, she did not appear to care he could see some hurt in her eyes. But it was from the first day, that he could not understand. How could on a single glance, she knows and understand so much more then anyone else. Mirror twins. Percy being gone. Even facts about his elder brothers. She was so much more then a headcase. She was a conundrum that he could not help but be entranced with.
George, always in tune with his twin, knew Fred was interested in the strange witch who had suddenly appeared in their lives. And so, it was no surprise, that once again, he caught sight of Fred watching Harry, this time from the window as she was outside laying on the grass. As she had been for hours. "What's your deal with her," George asked him as he took a seat beside his twin. "You are acting a bit obsessed with her."
Glancing to him he cringed realizing he had been a bit obvious. "Nothing."
"It's not nothing, in the week and a half since she got here you are always watching her," George stated since he had never seen his twin this interested in anyone before. "What's the deal Fred. Honestly if you're finally interested in girls again, I would avoid her."
Fred glared at his twin, "There is nothing wrong with her." He thought for sure George wouldn't be like the others and assumed since she was different, there was something wrong with her. He had thought better of his twin.
George half smiled realizing he was right, "I was actually commenting on her scary as hell dad and slightly insane godfather. Not her as a person. So, you are interested in Harry Potter. That could be hazardous to your health. Why this girl? You could have half the girls at Hogwarts, I admit Harrys a pretty lass but why her?"
Knowing his brother would not be one to judge and that he had already lost the opportunity to deny it, Fred decided to confide in him. "I wish I knew; I can't get her out of my head. There is something about her and it's not just how she looks. She's not as..." Finding the right words was far more difficult than he expected. "She's not insane. There is not something wrong with her. She is...She just sees things differently. I mean she can't be insane when she noticed we were Mirror twins, that Percy was missing. Maybe it is not something wrong with her but something with us since we cannot understand her."
Watching his brother George saw that he was really serious about this. More so than George remembered seeing him before. "Maybe your right, just be careful. Not only because if you hurt her, her dad and godfather will rip you apart. Be careful with her, she's fragile."
"I won't hurt her. I just...I want to understand."
George glanced out the window to where she was still laying, peacefully watching the sky and the world around her in a way none of them could understand. Still, it would do no real harm to try to figure it out. "Maybe ask. Maybe she can explain things to you. If not, its hardly going to harm anything. Watching hers clearly not doing you any good and honestly, it's a bit weird. Just go talk to her."
Making a decision Fred nodded to his brother before going outside and he laid down next to Harry who did not react. She just continued watching the clouds. "Harry," He said after a short while, finally she glanced his way. "I was wondering if you could help me with something."
"What does the left mirror wish to be helped with," she asked rolling to her side so he could see her pretty green eyes.
He hoped it was the right decision, "Can you help me understand...help me see."
She could not hide her surprise at his question as she sat up and he did the same. "Are you mocking me?"
Fred shook his head quickly not wanting her to be offended, "No I'm not mocking you, Harry. I want to understand, what am I missing? I like you; I want to get to know you. To get to know you I have to understand, and I was hoping you would help me with that."
Biting her lip watching him silently, judging him. He felt more exposed then expected as he waited to see how she would react. Finally, she just nodded, "Alright Left Mirror, I shell help you understand. If you do the same for me."
That was not what he was expecting at all. "What do you want to understand?"
She looked at him, really at him and he could see the pain and sadness in her eyes, "I do not understand everyone else, I see and think differently. How can I think like you?"
"Why would you want to," he asked honestly confused since she seemed content in how she was. He did not think that she needed to change. "I can try but well...we think with logic. What we cannot see, we cannot know, we cannot understand it so it does not exist and is wrong. People are not...nice. I can try to help you, but I do not understand why you would want to."
She bit her lip again which seemed to be a habit, "I wish to make my dad happy. I do not want him scared and sad anymore."
He offered her his hand. It made him sad that that was her thought, but he could understand in a way. "Alright love. I will help you if you help me, but your dad loves you the way you are. You should not change for anyone." She shook his hand in agreement before laying back down. He laid down beside her. "How can I understand..."
She closed her eyes and was silent for a long moment and he just waited. With more patience than he thought that he had, "It's not about understanding, it is about feeling and seeing and hearing. The grass, the earth, the sun, the air, how it feels on your skin, to your magic. Just touch it'' He laid back and ran his fingers along the grass gently. It was an odd feeling, one he was not use to but it was a nice one. "It smells nice...free...natural."
"It does," he agreed realizing she was easy to understand like this. Maybe he would never understand her, not fully but at the moment he was feeling blessed for having the chance because he was already beginning to see the world in another way. He felt like he had been let in on a deep secret only she was privy to. It was an experience, he was grateful to have.
