A/N: Thank you to SuperWhoVenger214 & AnimeHunter411 for their reviews! Here is chapter 3. I still have a few more chapter to write and edit. Hopefully I will have another one up by Tuesday (5/18) night. As always, please review and let me know what you think!
"Come on, Bender, don't screw around," said Andy.
"What's he gonna do?" asked Claire.
"Drop dead, I hope," said Andy as they watched him fiddle with the door to the library.
"Bender, that's-that's school property there, and it doesn't belong to us," said Brian. "It's not something to be toyed with."
Angela looked up when she heard a door close. She saw Bender walking away from the, now closed, library door as he tried to shove something in his pocket. They made eye contact for a brief moment before she held out her hand. He smirked as he tossed the screw at her. Angela caught the small piece of metal before she dropped it in her bra before she returned her attention back to her notebook in her lap.
"Very funny, you should fix that!" said Andy. "Fix it!"
"Am I a genius?" said Bender as he returned to his original seat.
"No, you're an asshole. Fix the door, Bender."
"What a funny guy," was Bender's reply.
Angela had just returned to her seat when Vernon came bursting through the library doors.
"Why is that door closed?" he asked. "Why is that door closed?!" he shouted when he didn't get an answer the first time.
"How are we supposed to know? We're not supposed to move," said Bender.
Vernon ignored Bender and turned to Claire, "Why?!"
Claire jumped when he yelled at her. "We're just sitting here like we're supposed to." she quickly mumbled.
"Who closed that door?!" shouted Vernon.
"I think a screw fell out of it," said Bender, not looking up from his table.
"It just closed, sir," said Andy.
Angela was happy that her eyes were hidden from sight. She couldn't help but roll them at everyone's lame excuse on why the door was suddenly closed.
"Who?" said Vernon again.
Allison squeaked when he looked at her before slamming her head down on the table so her hood covered her whole head.
"She doesn't talk, sir," said Angela as Allison squeaked again.
"Give me that screw," said Vernon looking at Bender.
"I don't have it," he said, shaking his head.
"You want me to yank you out of that seat and shake it out of you?" said Vernon.
"I don't have it. Screws fall out all the time," said Bender shrugging his shoulders. "The world's an imperfect place.
"Give it to me, Bender," said Vernon again.
"Excuse me, sir, but the language you are using could be considered verbal abuse to a child in your care," said Angela. "You might want to reconsider how you speak to your students, it could reflect badly on your career."
"You keep out of this, missy," said Vernon. "Unless you've got the screw, keep your mouth shut."
"Excuse me, sir. Why would anybody want to steal a screw?" asked Claire.
"Watch it, young lady," said Vernon, turning his attention to the princess.
The group watched as Vernon tried to keep the door open. He swung it open and turned around and grabbed one of the steel folding chairs. He propped the door open with his foot while he put the chair in place.
"The door's way too heavy, sir," said Angela.
Vernon rolled his eyes and continued to position the chair. Once he was satisfied he let go of the door. The door slammed closed on the chair, tossing the chair down the hallway.
"Damn it!" shouted Vernon from the other side of the door.
Angela had to cover her mouth to stop herself from laughing out loud. Bender turned around and smirked at her. Claire just glared at both of them. Andy and Brian were trying not to laugh as well.
Vernon walked back into the room and stared at them. "Andrew Clark, get up here. Front and center, let's go," he said snapping his fingers.
Andy rolled his eyes as he stood up and walked over to him.
"Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up?" said Bender "If he gets up, we'll all get up. It'll be anarchy!"
Angela was audibly giggling at this point. Between listening to Bender and watching Vernon and Andrew try to move the magazine rack to prop the door open. She snorted slightly as she watched Andy try to climb back into the library over the rack and slip on the magazines.
"That's very clever, sir, but what if there is a fire?" asked Bender slightly sarcastically. "Violating fire codes and endangering the lives of children would be very unwise at this juncture in your career, sir."
"All right. What are you doing with this?" he said looking at Andy. "Get this out of here, for God's sake. What's the matter with you? Come on."
"Right, cause blaming a student for your mistake is any better," mumbled Angela.
"Keep your comments to yourself or you'll end up with another detention," said Vernon.
"Well, you know, the school comes equipped with fire exits at either end of the library," said Brian motioning like a flight attendant.
Angela crumpled another piece of paper and tossed it at his head, hitting him in the ear. "Shut up, Brian!"
"I expected a little more out of a varsity letterman," said Vernon. "You're not fooling anybody, Bender. The next screw that falls out is gonna be you."
"Eat my shorts," muttered Bender under his breath.
"What was that?" asked Vernon, walking over to him.
"Eat...my...shorts," he repeated slowly.
"You just bought yourself another Saturday, mister," said Vernon.
"Oh, I'm crushed," Bender replied sarcastically.
"You just bought one more," said Vernon.
"Well, I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'll have to check my calendar," said Bender.
"Good! Because it's gonna be filled. We'll keep going," said Vernon, pointing at Bender. "We'll keep going. You want another one? Say the word. Just say the word. Instead of going to prison, you'll come here."
"Sir, I think you need to calm down before you cross a line you can't come back from," said Angela.
"You keep your mouth shut and stay out of this," said Vernon. "I hear another peep out of you and you'll be in here next Saturday."
"Peep," she said, looking him dead in the eye.
"You've got yourself another detention. Looks like you'll have some company next week, Bender. Are you through?" said Vernon turning his attention back to Bender.
"No."
"I'm doing society a favor."
"So?"
"That's another one right now. I've got you for the rest of your life if you don't watch your step," Vernon said, practically yelling at this point. "You want another one?"
"Yes."
"You got it! You got another one right there. That's another one, pal."
"Bender...stop…" said Angela. "You're not proving anything here."
"Cut it out!" said Claire.
Bender turned and glared at her.
"You through?" said Vernon.
"Not even close, bud," said Bender.
"You got one more right there," said Vernon.
"You really think I give a shit?" was Bender's reply.
"Another." Both men stared at each other for a moment before Vernon spoke again. "You through?"
"How many is that?" asked Bender.
"That's seven, including the one when you asked Mr. Vernon here whether Barry Manilow knew he raided his closet," said Brian. "And one for Angela…"
"Now it's eight. And you stay out of it," said Vernon, turning to look at Brian.
"Excuse me, it's sev-seven," said Brian.
"Shut up, peewee," said Vernon.
"Don't bother with him, he's gonna do what he wants because he thinks he's a big man on campus. He doesn't care who he hurts or steps on in the process," said Angela leaning back in her chair. "Even if it hurts the people he loves, including his wife."
"You keep your mouth shut. You don't know shit about anything," said Vernon. "That's another Saturday for you.
"I know a lot more than people think I do," said Angela. "I see and hear more things than most people want to do. I know things that could ruin a few careers of the faculty here at the school. So don't try me, old man.
"That's another Saturday for you," said Vernon walking over to her table.
"Whoop-de-doo," said Angela twirling her finger in a circle. "You don't scare me, Mr. Vernon. You may terrify most of the students in this school, but I know your secrets. And boy are they some big secrets. If it were me, I'd hate for those to get out to my significant other," she said with a smirk.
There was a collective gasp from the group when Vernon's hand made contact with Angela's cheek. Angela just stared at him, slightly dazed from the force.
"Keep your mouth shut. You don't know a damn thing about anything," he said. "You're mine, Bender," he said, turning around and ignoring Angela. "I've got you for two months."
"What can I say. I'm thrilled," said Bender.
"I'm sure that's exactly what you want these people to believe. You know something? You ought to spend a little more time trying to do something with yourself. You both should," he said, glancing at Angela. "And a little less time trying to impress people. You might be better off."
"You don't know shit about me," said Angela. "You didn't even know who I was before I came into your office. So you can keep your judgmental comments about me to yourself."
"Another Saturday for you," he said. "That's it. I'm gonna be right outside those doors. The next time I have to come in here, I'm cracking skulls."
"A little too late for that," muttered Angela.
"Another," Vernon said before walking out of the library.
As soon as the doors were closed Bender yelled at the top of his lungs, "FUCK YOU!" before muttering a quiet "fuck" to himself.
"Are you okay?" asked Andy.
"Fuck off," said Angela as she grabbed her bag and notebook and walked away from the group.
Andy rolled his eyes as he turned back around
Time seemed to pass slowly for the group. Angela had disappeared into the stacks. Bender had lit his boot on fire before lighting his cigarette. Claire was daydreaming while Andy played with the strings for his hoodie. Allison had pulled string loose from her shirt and was slowly wrapping it around her finger, cutting off the circulation. Brian was trying to hide the fact that he had a boner from watching Claire.
Andy eventually moved on to making paper footballs and flicking them across the table. Allison had pulled out a large sketch book and started sketching a bridge landscape. When she had finished the drawing she leaned over and scratched her head until her dandruff fell out on the picture like snow.
Angela had finally rejoined the group, but was sitting on the couch on the other side of the sofa. No one made the comment, but they could all tell that she had been crying at some point. As the minutes ticked by, almost dragging along, they all started falling asleep one by one.
Mr. Vernon walked into the library to find everyone asleep. Claire had her head resting on her arm on the table. Andy was slouched back in his sleep. Brian was using his jacket as a pillow and had one leg halfway propped up on the table. Allison was sitting slightly slouched over forward in her seat, with her hair covering her face. Bender had his feet on one table, his body stretched out across a chair and was laying his head on the table behind him. Angela was stretched out on the couch with her head hanging off the arm, upside down.
"Wake up!" shouted Vernon as he surveyed the group. "Who has to use the lavatory?"
Everyone, without opening their eyes, raised their hands.
"Let's go," said Vernon as he turned to leave the library.
All three girls grabbed their bags as they headed out of the library. There was a bathroom at the end of the hall, so they weren't going to go far.
"Five minutes," said Vernon.
"It's almost impossible for a woman to use the bathroom in five minutes," said Angela. "Unlike the guys, we can't just whip it out and go. There is a process."
"You're pushing your luck," said Vernon.
"She's right, sir," said Claire. "It's going to take longer if a girl is on her monthly cycle, because then…"
"All right, shut up. Just get in there and handle your business," said Vernon, not wanting to hear whatever else she was gonna say.
The guys were chucking as they walked into the men's room and Claire had a smile on her face as the girls walked into their bathroom.
"You didn't have to do that," said Angela.
"I didn't want to see you get hurt again," said Claire.
"That's nothing, and I doubt he would have don't it again," said Angela. "But I don't need you sticking up for me. I can handle myself."
"Jesus, you could've just said thank you and moved on," said Claire rolling her eyes.
"You don't know who I am," said Angela. "You probably don't even know my name. So don't sit there on your high horse thinking you're doing me a favor," she said as she stepped into a stall.
"Bitch…" muttered Claire as she did the same.
A/N: And here is chapter 3! Once I post this I will be starting on chapter 4. Like I said, I'm trying to flesh out the group as a whole so this will probably continue for a bit past the Saturday detention. Please review and let me know what you think!
