February 28th, 2012 Davenports lab (Leo's POV)-
"What're you doing?" I asked Chase. For once Maddie was off of her tablet and in a conversation with Bree.
"If Davenport is gonna ship us off to some remote facility, then the office supplies are coming with us." He said while grabbing a notepad from Maddie's desk and she frowned.
"Hey!" Maddie exclaimed "That's my notepad!" she pouted and he immediately put it back. That boy is whipped and doesn't even know it.
"Sorry Madds." She couldn't keep the smile off her face at the sound of the nickname.
"We just got our first taste of normal life. I was this close to getting a curfew which I was totally gonna break." Bree said, to be fair though normal life kinda sucks. I mean if I could switch places with any of them I would.
"Oooh! But maybe when we get to wherever we're going, we'll meet a sassy lab chimp named Bobo who will take us on adventures and teach us how to love." Adam tried to add some light to the situation but Chase shut him down.
"Or maybe you'll make him angry and he'll maul you and snack on your fingers."
"Hey. I create the monkey fantasies around here." Adam replied standing from his chair.
"Well, kids, I hope you've enjoyed your stay at casa Davenport. I know I haven't. Sayonara!" Eddy so lovingly added.
"Oh yay. Eddy's here. Now it really is an amazing day." Maddie added her voice dripping with sarcasm. Man she must really hate Eddy, I mean I do too but that's a whole nother level.
"Eddy, I know we've never been the best of friends, but we're gonna miss you." Bree said with an innocent smile.
"Aw, really?" He asked.
"No!" "We hate you!" "You're evil!" They all exclaimed, Maddie just laughed.
"Where is this training facility anyway?" I asked.
"Facility X? Oh, it's all the rage." Eddy said pulling up a picture of a large tropical island.
"That's pretty nice." Chase said as we all agreed.
"That's not Facility X." Maddie said hopping off the cyber desk and moving over to the computer pulling something up while glaring at Eddy. "This is Facility X, not the best for swimsuits and flip flops." She said after pulling what looked like a large scientific facility in the frozen tundra.
"Forget about office supplies. We should be gathering wood." Chase said, putting down the box of office supplies.
"Man. I wish I hadn't thrown that party. I can't help but think this is all my fault." Yeah it probably wasn't the best idea to break the rules after getting in trouble for breaking the rules.
"Oh, that's because it is all your fault." Adam told me while patting my back.
"Adam, he was only trying to help us." Bree said, supporting me.
"Well, yeah, but he did the opposite, which is not help us. The not makes it the opposite. I'm just so bummed. It's the only place we've ever known." Adam explained.
"Yeah. Just think about all the memories we've shared here." Chase said nosologically.
"Hey remember Maddie's 14th birthday." Adam said with a smile.
"Why are you so happy about that?" Maddie asked
"It was terrible." Bree added.
"It wasn't that bad... I mean besides the whole Spike part, but we don't talk about that." Maddie tried but it led to a shudder. What does she mean by the "Spike part" and why don't they talk about it. Moving on.
"I can't let Davenport send you guys away. Let me talk to him. No one can say no to this million-dollar smile." There's no way he can say no to me. I'll go talk to him. We can definitely get this fixed. I'm not gonna lose them.
Davenport House (Maddie's POV)-
"This is a terrible idea." I told davenport flatly. Honestly, he could have fired me and I'm glad he hasn't but that doesn't mean I'm gonna be happy with the situation.
"It's not a terrible idea. Just help me get the sheet over them." He said gesturing to biosynthetic robots that were made to look like Adam, Bree, and Chase. A part of him felt bad for Leo and I, the fact that we'd be losing our best friends so this was his solution. This wasn't the worst solution to the problem but it was definitely not the best.
"Leo, there you are. Honey, I know you're sad about your friends leaving. But think of all the time you'll get to spend with me. Oooh! We can play your little video game. You know, the one where you hold the thingy and you move the other thingy." Tasha was trying to cheer Leo up as he entered the kitchen.
"Mom, with all due respect, it is way too late in life for you to learn video games." He said glumly.
"Good morning, happy family." Davenport was trying to butter up Leo cause this was a dumb idea.
"What is that?" Tasha questioned the sheet.
"Whatever it is, don't get too attached." Leo stated pointedly.
"Look, Leo, I know you're gonna miss Adam, Bree and Chase. So, I laser scanned their features onto these biosynthetic robots and I programmed them with their core personality traits. Is this great or what? It'll be like they never left." Davenport was really reaching with this one." What do you think?"
"I think the excitement of having a billionaire dad just wore off." Leo stated bluntly.
"Donald, I don't know about this. I kind of prefer Leo to have friends who can't malfunction and tear him limb from limb." Tasha had a fair point: the base programming for the bots was a military level protection system.
"What are those?" Bree asked.
"It's Davenport's lame attempt to apologize to me and Leo, that he also had me help him build." I explained from the couch. Losing interest quickly.
"Good morning. The time is 11:22 and the temperature is currently 68 degrees." Robot Adam started.
"You made a robot of me that just stands around telling people the time and the temperature? That's the coolest thing I've ever seen!" Adam is really just a giant puppy and I'm gonna miss him.
"Does my nose really look like that?" Bree asked looking over to me.
Before I could answer Robot Bree said, "No. Yours has a faint moustache underneath." To be fair the robots were supposed to share some of their personality traits.
"Hey, everyone. I'm Chase. Let's do ma... ma... ma... math." Robot Chase started, needing a hit to the gut to work through the glitch. Chase looked horrified then angry while the rest of us laughed.
"That is not funny!" He tried to stop us from laughing.
"No, you're right. It's fuh... fuh... fuh... funny." Adam mocked.
"Hey, Fitz. How's it going? How's life? How's tricks? Alrighty then. You guys should've seen him at the Christmas party. He's a karaoke master." Mr. Davenport said as he answered the door for one of his employees. He wasn't wrong about the karaoke thing.
"Well, I guess this is it. Thanks for everything, guys." Bree said, looking at me and Leo.
"Yeah, you're the best friends we've ever had." Chase continued.
"No, they're the only friends we've ever had." Adam said not understanding the sentiment.
"Well, don't forget to bundle up on your deadly missions." Tasha mothered pulling them into a group hug.
"Hey, remember, this is a good thing. Without any distractions, you might finish your training early." Davenport reminded them as they were leaving. With a sad smile and a small wave the three siblings were gone.
"Whoo hoo! They're gone!" How can he be so highly advanced but have no sympathy.
"Eddy!" Davenport chastised.
"I mean, have a safe trip. I love you." Eddy added, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Don't mind me I'll just be heading to the lab." That could not have been more awkward. At least I didn't trip or something on the way to the elevator.
It's gonna be weird not having the trio around, but I don't want to think about that. I'm just gonna focus on my work for a while. When Davenport gets stressed like this he makes lots of inventions and blueprints. It's my job as his lab assistant to file, submit them to the board, and file for the patents. The task isn't hard but it can be tedious and that's what I need right now. With my headphones on and spent about an hour working, then decided it was time for a break so I headed towards the elevator to get a snack from the kitchen.
"Hopefully we don't get caught." I heard through my headphones. That's not good. No one should be down here. I quietly put my headphones down and stepped against the wall. I know it wasn't Davenport, Leo, or Tasha, no one else has access to the lab anymore so I need to be ready. I formed a ball of electricity in my hand ready to attack. The first person stepped into the lab and I targeted them before I could see who it was.
"Chase!" Bree and Adam yelled as they ran in. Chase heard the attack coming and put up a force field to protect himself. The trio looked over to me, shocked.
"I- I uh- I can explain!" I stuttered. How could I let this happen? How are they still here? "I have powers!" I brought my hand to my mouth and grimaced. "Stupid! Why would I say that!" I said to the ground.
"You have powers? How?" "Since when?" "What are your powers?" These are too much I need to sit down. I sat at the cyber desk to answer their questions.
"As far as I know I have electrokinesis, enhanced senses, enhanced lung capacity, enhanced agility and flexibility. I got them a few months before I met you. Plus I don't really know how I got them, I just woke up like this one day." I rambled.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Bree asked.
"I didn't like not telling you, but I didn't want to lose my job with Mr. Davenport and I don't want to worry my parents." I explained.
"That makes sense. Wait, that does make sense right?" Adam looked over to chase for an answer.
"Yeah, it does." Chase looked up smiling at me. I ran to the three bionic siblings and brought them into a group hug.
"My turn. What are you guys doing here? I thought you'd be well on your way to Davenport's facility by now?" I asked them, pulling out of the hug.
"We asked the driver to go back for something, and I switched out the robots before he could notice. Now we just have to act like the robots whenever Davenport is around." Bree explained.
"Now" Chase looked towards me, "you want to help us prank Leo?" he smirked.
"It would be my genuine pleasure." I smirked back.
Davenports House (Leo's POV)-
"Hello, insert your name here. Would you like to engage in silly, happy, fun time?" Robot Adam asked me as I walked into the lab.
"Get lost! You can't replace my real friends! I really loved those guys." I was sick of these robots. At least I still have Maddie. She was working on something at the console in front of the capsules when I made my way over to her. The robots followed.
"Don't be sad, Mr. Leo. Friends come and go. But robots are forever. Dibbly. Dibbly. That is my version of a laugh. Dibbly. Dibbly." Alright Chase's robot was just weird.
"Will you tin heads get out of here? Maddie can you help me out?"
"Sensing human hostility." Chase began to turn on me.
"Must exterminate!" Then Bree.
"Robots attack!" and Adam too.
"Yeah, go robots! Get him! Crush him! Go for the brain!" Maddie added, what is wrong with her?!
"Destroy Leo. Destroy Leo." The robots chanted.
"Maddie! Help me!" I pleaded.
"Leo, Leo. We're not robots. It's really us." I heard Bree, like actually Bree not her Robot voice.
"Huh?" Now I'm confused.
"We told the driver we forgot something, and then we swapped the robots in our place." Chase explained and that made sense.
"You said you loved us. You said you loved us." Adam mocked. Making kissy faces at me. I slapped him to finally see for myself if this was real.
"Ow!"
"It is you guys! Wait, why were you cheering on the robots?" I asked pointing at Maddie. "How did you know?"
"Well I figured it out on-" Maddie started.
"She blasted Chase using her superpowers before we could pull the prank on her." Adam said, interrupting her. Chase, Bree, and Maddie looked at him with an unbelieving look.
"What happened to not telling, Adam!" Maddie chastised him.
"Superpowers!" She has superpowers! "This is so cool! Do you know Volt? She's like one of my favorite super heroes?" I was full on fangirling and I didn't even care.
"Well I guess I know Volt. She's pretty cool, smart, you know just an around great person." She said with a knowing smirk on her face. I can't believe she actually knows Volt!
"Let me guess, your Volt?" Bree asked, already knowing the answer.
"Yep." She said popping the p. I can't believe my life right now. I'm standing in the same room as Volt and the only Three bionic humans on earth! "But that does not under no circumstances leave this room. No talking about the powers or talking about catsuit wearing vigilante." She warned. She turned to Adam, Bree, and Chase. "Get ready, Davenport is coming." How could she know that.
The elevator opened.
"Hey, Leo." he said.
"Big D, Donny, man of the house!"
"What're you two doing?" He asked me and Maddie.
"What are we doing? I am hanging with my robo-fake people friends. Ain't no party like a robot party 'cause a robot party don't stop!"
"And I'm trying to do my work." Maddie answered.
"See, I told you you would like them." Davenport gloated.
"Like 'em? I love 'em." I pushed.
"Oh, you know the greatest thing about having robots is?" He said with a mischievous glint in his eye and grabbing a tool from the drawer across the cyber desk.
"What?" We asked cautiously.
"They are virtually indestructible." He grinned.
"Huh?" "What?"
"Watch this." He took his tool and tazed Adam.
"Quit it!" I tried to stop him but he thought it was hilarious.
"No, it's okay. He can't feel a thing. He's a robot." He said laughing. Then he tazed Chase.
"Your gonna damage them!" Maddie tried.
"Ha ha! They are so incredibly lifelike." He moved to taze Bree before she caught his arm.
"Don't even try it." She sassed.
"Oooh, you're a feisty robot, you. You wanna give it a try?" He tried giving me the device.
"No." I answered.
"Come on, do it." He pushed.
"I'm fine." I pushed back.
"What about you Maddie, you want to try?" he waved the device in her direction.
"No thanks, Mr.D." She pushed the device away.
"Just do it once. It's a lot of fun." He nudged her.
"Fine!" She grabbed the device. Turned it towards Big D and zapped him.
He began shuddering and passed out. "You're right. It is fun." I said.
February 29th, 2012 Davenport House (Maddie's POV)-
I was on my way to the front door of the Davenport house when Leo came running towards me. He was hyperventilating. I should really get him to exercise with me and the lab rats.
"Maddie! Mr. Davenport took Adam, Bree, and Chase to the recycling center to be destroyed! We need to save them!" He rambled to me.
"Okay, okay. Leo calm down!" I grabbed him by the shoulders. "Lets go to my lair and we can get the electric cycle. It will be faster than running. Come on!" I grabbed his hand and ran to the woods past my house. We ran through the trees to get to the door of my hideout. "You wait here, don't move." I ran down to the start of the entrance path. I looked down as I was running through the course to see Leo watching in awe. I jumped up to the lever pulled and swung off flying through the now open door.
"Tessa, eject the guest ladder." I said towards the roof as the bio-scan was being completed.
"Right away Boss." The disembodied voice answered. Suddenly twelve ladder rungs came out from the wall leading from floor to ceiling.
"Leo! Hurry up! Start climbing, we need to help Adam, Bree, and Chase." I pushed. He was just standing outside the entrance with his jaw on the ground. He finally broke from his daze and climbed down the ladder. Once he got down to the base level I grabbed him by the shoulders leading him to my lab/garage. He was gawking the entire way with eyes the size of dinner plates. I got him to the garage then went over to grab an extra helmet for him.
"Tess darling, do you mind opening the garage. Admin code: 4368617365." I walked over to my hoverbike. "Leo come on. We have people who need us!" This was getting ridiculous, I grabbed him more forcefully this time putting the helmet on him and dragging him to the bike. "Get on."
He stumbled out of his daze getting onto the bike, mumbling "I'm on the electric cycle with volt in her secret hideout" on repeat. I only smirked giving the bike a steady flow of electricity to activate it. The bike began to leave the ground to hover at a foot above the ground. I took off after revving the engine. We sped through the forest with Leo screaming and holding on for dear life. With the bike having a max speed of 315 miles per hour we got to the recycling plant, across town in less than a minute.
"What just happened?" Leo questioned, still disoriented.
"Doesn't matter we are at the recycling plant. We need to find Chase, Bree, and Adam. They should've gotten here at least an hour ago so they should already be in the trash compactor." I explained already heading for the building. I got my phone out and started working my way through the facility's network. "It should be easy enough to get into the system." I worked as quickly as I could while running. "Okay I'm in, and there it is. Follow me." I quickly found a map with the compactor and it's possible entrances.
"You just hacked into the system. Just like that? While we were running?" Leo questioned starting to get used to the things in my life.
"Yeah Leo. Just like that, now come on." I led Leo up the stairs to the compactor dump. I jumped over the railing, with a cliché superhero landing. Leo jumped in behind me and tried to swing over the bar in the same way I did but his foot clipped the railing landing flat on his back.
"Madds? What are you doing?!" Chase asked.
"Leo?" Adam questioned.
"No. It's Oprah and Gayle. Get us out of here!" Leo was not helping.
Then to make the situation even better, Davenport had to show up.
"Mr. Davenport!" Bree exclaimed,
"Hello, we are robots." Adam was still oblivious.
"Dude, I think he knows." Chase explained.
"Well, now he does." Adam replied frustrated.
"Leo!" Tasha realized when she heard his panicked screams. Hah rookie.
"I'll find somebody to shut it off." Mr. Davenport started.
"There isn't enough time!" Bree wasn't completely wrong. If he had went for help went for help the situation would be much worse.
"Guys, I have an idea." By now I knew how to get out of here but I kinda wanted to see what Chase had thought up.
. . .
"Ah, it never gets old." Adam said with nostalgia, for whatever reason.
"Leo. Madds. What're you doing here?" Awe. Chase was worried.
"I got Maddie and we came to save you guys." Leo explained for the two of us.
"Oh, thanks. We're good. Ha. Sweet kids." Again oblivious Adam.
"Come on, let's do this." Bree got into position.
"Okay, Leo, hold on to Adam and Maddie grab onto me. We're gonna surround you and then we'll all go through it together, okay? Three, two—" Chase was so far into Mission leader mode that he missed the obvious.
"Or I could just do this." I walked over to the emergency power button to shut off the compactor.
"What was that?" Leo asked.
"That would be the off button." Chase explained, slightly embarrassed.
"Yeah. Oh, you guys didn't see that?" Three for three Adam.
. . .
"Oh, thank heavens! You all made it home safe and sound and-" Eddy said adding an affectionate raspberry.
"I don't know what you kids were thinking pulling a stunt like that. You could've seriously hurt yourselves." Davenport was finally getting to dad mode and putting their safety first.
"Yeah, but you gotta admit, my robot accent was dead on." Adam joked.
"Can we please take him back to the recycling center?" Chase added.
"And, Leo, why didn't you tell us that Adam, Bree and Chase were still here?" Tasha was worried not just for Leo but for Adam, Bree, and Chase as well.
"Because I was trying to protect my friends. And I'm still gonna protect my friends. That's right. You wanna send them away, you have to go through me first. It's go time, little man. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog. There's a lot of fight in this little doggie. Come on! Uh-huh!" Huh. Leo really did love them and also really needs training.
"Leo, calm down. They're not going anywhere." This can't be real! Davenport was letting them stay!
"Oh, don't you— Wait, what?" Leo couldn't believe it and I almost didn't either.
"Really?" I didn't want to get my hopes up.
"Watching you guys risk your lives for each other made me realize something. Maybe I've been focusing too much on training the super human side of you, and I forgot all about the human part." Looks like Tasha was changing Davenport for the better.
"Awww. I don't get it." Adam said. He really needed a regular education.
"You're teenagers. And bionic or not, you deserve to experience teenager things. Like school and classes and cell phones." Davenport started.
"Yes! A cell phone! I'm living the dream. Whoo!." Bree said preemptively celebrating.
"Yeah, you're not getting a cell phone. But what I can give you is another chance. Maybe there's a way that you can live here, go to school, and go on missions." Davenport continued.
"Are you serious?" Chase got excited.
"So they can stay?" Leo asked for all of us teenagers.
"On one condition. No one can ever find out about your abilities. And you have to control your emotions so you don't glitch." He warned.
"Done." "Okay." "Absolutely." The three confirmed.
"All right, then, welcome home. Maddie you think you can start by getting some transcripts and everything they will need for school?" Davenport asked looking at me.
"Definitely!" I can't wait to have them at school with me. I'd have some better friends and I'd see them more often.
"Whoo hoo! Yeah! ...whoops!" Adam proved the dangers of glitching by shooting out three plasma grenades over the excitement. We all hit the ground before we could get hit ourselves.
"He has plasma grenades? My life just got a whole lot better." Leo was in for a whole lot.
Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-
"You three are now officially ready to be enrolled at Mission Creek High School." I said moving away from my desk looking towards Bree and Chase. "Longest three hours of paperwork, ever!" I added. Chase just smiled and nodded his head refocusing on his tablet, while Bree came over to me.
"So how long are you gonna wait to make a move? You know now that you won't be the only girl in Chase's life that's not family." She asked using a voice so low only I could hear her. Using my enhanced hearing with her next to me. "Now that we'll be going to school, he could always begin to talk to other girls." Bree prodded.
I know she was just trying to push a little, but why does she care so much about my feelings for Chase. Plus even though I'd never admit it out loud she wasn't wrong. Since We met I have been his only choice but now he could start seeing other pretty girls from school.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I denied cheekily.
"Okay, I guess you're right." She sighed dramatically. "I guess I only have one other question." Bree acting innocent, Oh no. "When do you think Chase will notice you're wearing his flannel?" She smirked noticing the instant tomato effect the statement had on my face.
"W-What do you mean?" I managed to choke out. "I just grabbed this from my room this morning." I explained trying to will myself to stop blushing. Then after closer examining the size and style of the flannel and remembering grabbing it from the chair in the lab after the whole party incident, I realized that Bree was once again right. I was wearing one of Chase's flannels and it was the most comfy ones that I had worn.
Even worse, my poker face had seemed to be slipping as the pride in knowing she was right, dawned upon her.
