Chapter 2

Metropolis

It was just a few hours removed from the robbery at the Metropolis City Bank. The detectives were working nonstop on the case up until the big-league federal agencies came taking over the case. Apparently, it was related to some cases that just so happened to be in their interest. The threat that robbed the bank earlier were a threat to a national security. A threat that they were best suited to solve.

Of those that were in the bank, thirteen dead with two survivors who sustained multiple injuries who were lucky to survive. Those 2 didn't include the man who was lying in a hospital bed who was starting to awaken from the slumber he was in. He groaned as he felt a pain in his ribs, probably coming from the landing he had. He looked around the room before attempted to rise up out of bed but struggled making him frown as he looked down seeing he was hand-cuffed to bed railing.

"What the hell?" He said looking down at his wrist. Why was he the one in cuffs? He had done nothing wrong but just so happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Well, well, well. Look who's awake." said a short, plumb African-American woman with a black short-cut natural afro with eyebrows and dark brown eyes. She wore a blue skirt with a matching blue blazer and a white blouse. She had a necklace of pearls around her neck and a pin of a A.

"Amanda Waller. What do you want?"

"Some information. Information that I think you may know."

"And what makes you think I know?"

"Because believe it or not, your family is connected with this type of threat. So I know you know."

"Waller until today, I have never seen them before in my life."

"Maybe not your life but may be your grandfather has."

"What?"

"There an organization by the name of Hydra. They were involved with the Nazi party and just like the Nazis they fell when they met Captain America."

"And what makes you think I know?"

"Well, you've been spending a lot of time with him lately. Going for lengthy visits once or twice a week."

"How do you know about that?" Waller smirked as she took a seat next to his bed while his eyes trailed following her as he glared at her.

"I keep an eye on possible threats."

"And you think I can be one?"

"One thing about your Rogers men that I have learned, when you believe in something you fight for it. And you don't care who gets hurt or caught in the crossfire."

"You're wrong."

"Am I?" Before Steve could even say a thing, Waller's phone rang making her look down at it with a smirk before rising up to her feet and walking to the door.

"I'll be back. You just sit tight." Waller said before she walked out of the door leaving him there alone. Steve looked around the room once more seeing his clothes in a chair. He looked back up at the door before looking down at his cuffs. He took a deep breath before putting a hand on his thumb, he pushed down on putting pressure up until he heard a pop making him groan out before he quickly slid out of the cuffs. He popped his thumb back in place with a groan before he jumped up throwing the patient gown off of him and putting on his clothes. He looked up on the roof of his room seeing that there was a vent right above his bed. And it wasn't screwed in tightly.

Steve jumped onto his bed and pulled at his vent, pulling it off before he grabbed a hold and entered the vent to crawl away and find a better place to escape.

Outside of his room, Amanda Waller stood outside of the room on her phone.

"Find it now and don't screw up. It's bad enough I got the higher-ups on my ass about the Task Force, the last thing I need is them on my ass about this." Waller said before hanging up the phone and walking into the room. Her face frowned as she looked up at the vent. She pulled out her phone and quickly made a phone.

"He's escaped! I need units to floor 25!" Waller shouted on the phone.

(!)

A vent popped down, clanking as it hit the floor. Steve jumped down hitting the floor of a janitor's closet in the hospital just a few rooms away from his. He looked around the room seeing a blue jacket with a blue cap with a pair of shades in the closet. Steve quickly discarded his jacket to grab a hold of the jacket and the cap. He placed the shades on his face and walked out of the closet. Running past, him, he saw several guards running towards the direction of his room making him smirk as he walked past them. He walked looking to make his way to the elevator. As he got near the elevator, he looked up to see several guards running out of the elevator as its doors opened.

Once all the guards left the elevator, Steve walked into the elevator pressing on the on the bottom floor button. He waited patiently tapping his feet on the floor as he looked up seeing the floor indicator show a down arrow before it stopped at the bottom floor. The doors opened and as he went out more guards went in. Damn, what did Waller say to make that many people come after him?

He walked directly out of the hospital with someone say anything to him making him smile as he walked to the parking garage to find a ride. Or at least borrow one for an extended period.

(!)

Steve had managed to find a black Honda Civic to ride in. He found a toolbox in the trunk and a screw driver and was smart enough to change tags out with another car. Luckily no one saw him. He was currently perked up on the roof of a building across from the bank. He felt like there was something he was missing. Something that he would have been able to see that others had missed. That logo, he just couldn't that logo out of his head. And that man with the mask, something about him just wasn't right.

"I'm gonna ask you this one time. Who are you and why are you here?" Steve said making him turn around to see the big, blue boy scout standing behind. What people said about him was right. He was bigger in person. He stood there clad in a bright blue Kryptonian suit with the red and yellow House of El symbol in the middle of the suit. He had red boots and a matching red cape with a red belt around the waist with a gold House of El symbol. He had black hair with a curl resembling an S hanging down with clear, crystal blue eyes.

"I'm trying to see if anybody missed anything. Believe me, I don't want any trouble."

"The APB that's out for you says otherwise Steve."

"X-Ray vision?" Superman simply nodded as he walked closer to Steve.

"Earlier, I missed it. I wish I could've been here but I was busy trying to fight Metallo and Parasite. I thought my back-up would help me out but they had other obligations. It's no excuse but-"

"I get it."

"Any idea on who did it?"

"No but I got a feeling, I'll know real soon."

"They came in my city and they hurt the people that I swore I would protect. Taking them down is mission now."

"You won't be doing it alone."

"I can't let you do that. You're a civilian now."

"Doesn't matter, I feel a connection to this organization and I'm gonna find out what that connection is."

"I think taking them down is a job for Captain America and last time, I checked you're not him."

"You're right I'm not but I'm still gonna take them down."

"Alright, if you say so. One thing is true about you Rogers' men, you're all stubborn." Steve chuckled as he looked down at the ground.

"You know you're the second person to say that to me tonight."

"Yeah, I heard Waller earlier."

"Can I ask you a favor?" Steve asked as he looked up looking Superman in his eyes. Superman looked at him with a puzzled look.

(!)

Steve stood in the backyard of his grandfather's home looking at the sky as Superman flew away after giving Steve a lift. It was the safest way possible to do so without getting followed by any of Waller's men considering that they were following him since he was labeled as a potential threat.

Luckily the house had a fence around it so no one would see him. It was pretty late. The time was about 11:32 at night so the there was high chance that no one would be up. But luckily, he knew where all the spare keys would be. He walked to the patio doors grabbing the key that under a rock next to the door. He placed the key in the key hole and turned pushing the door open. He walked into the house and sighed a sigh of relief as he was now inside a safe haven. He closed the door behind himself and locked it before he turned around and was caught by surprise as his grandfather had a gun cocked and aimed at him.

"Jesus Steve, why didn't you call?" The first-generation Steve Rogers lowered his gun as his released a deep exhale while he lowered his arms.

"I thought you would be sleep. And I didn't want anyone to know I was contacting you."

"I couldn't. Especially with knowing you were in a hospital and that you escaped it. You're lucky they haven't found you yet. You know they can. Especially with all this cellphone tracking and such."

"I left it at the hospital."

"Smart."

"I learned from the best."

"So, what brings you by? You need me to get the guest bedroom ready for you."

"No, not tonight. I came for information if you don't mind."

"I got time. I just put your grandmother down for the night."

"She okay?"

"Yeah, you should come see her sometimes."

"Maybe someday soon."

"What do you need to know?"

"Earlier today, I was on my way home and I got caught by an explosion. I saw a man with a mask. It was a mask like a red skull or something. And there was a logo. It was a-"

"A skull with tentacles?"

"Yeah, you know it?"

"I always feared this day would come. I got something to show you." Steve's grandfather said as he walked to the door leading into the garage while Steve III followed. Steve I entered the garage while the younger generation Rogers walked in following him. They walked over to the corner where a bunch of boxes were stacked up. The older man reached into the box and grabbed a small box with the initials SSR on it. He dropped it down on the ground and pulled off the lid of the box reaching in grabbing a file.

"They're called Hydra." Steve III was handed a file with the same logo that he saw before on the front of it.

"I fought them earlier in my days at Captain America. They started off a subdivision in the Nazis focusing on advancements in Science and Technology. But their leader, Johann Schmidt AKA the Red Skull got too arrogant and decided it was time to branch out. I thought I destroyed them but it seems what they say is true. Cut off one head, two more grow back in its place. And that's what happened."

"Well, they're back."

"Unfortunately so."

"I want to take them down."

"That's not a job that you can do alone."

"You did it."

"Yeah, well back then I was a different guy."

"You were Captain America."

"Key word: were."

"Well, it may be time for the Captain to return."

"I don't think that's the only way for them to fall."

"We talked about this earlier this morning. Purpose. Impact. What if this is my chance at actually leaving a strong impact on the world? What if this is my purpose?"

"What to pick up the shield and become Captain America?"

"And to take down Hydra once and for all."

"It's not that simple."

"It can be. I know what I have to do. I have to align myself with Waller to take down Hydra. And when they're down, I can leave."

"I'm afraid leaving something like that just isn't so simple. But all I can do is support you at the end of the day. Are you sure this is what you want?"

"Absolutely. Probably more than anything else."

"Okay, well if you're gonna do it then you need this." said Steve I as he stood up and walked towards the corner of boxes in his garage and reached behind it to pull out a circular leather case. He smiled as he handed it to his grandson who looked down at with a smile as well.

"You know this is a big responsibility, right?"

"I know."

"Alright and I got something else for you. This is the last of this. There's never been another. Move this deep freezer please." Steve III frowned as he listened to what his grandfather asked him. He stood up and looked at the deep freezer that the family used to keep some of their frozen foods that didn't fit in the freezer in the fridge. He grunted and groaned as he pushed the deep freezer out of the way revealing a square hole in the ground. Steve III bent down and picked up a wooden box with the emblem of a Star on top.

"What is this?"

"This is the Super Solider Serum or at least what's left of it. Promise me one thing." Steve III looked up from the box that he held in his hands and looked at his grandfather.

"Don't let that power change who you are. Always fight for what's right and always be the man I've always known you to be." Steve III simply put said nothing but instead grabbed his grandfather engulfing him in a hug. This was the passing of a mantle, from one Captain America to another. A generational blessing. A generational mission to defeat Hydra.

"Alright now let's defeat Hydra, once and for all." Steve III said as he pulled apart from his grandfather who looked at him with a proud smirk.

A/N: Alright so two chapters in a short span of time, you guys are extremely lucky cause I don't even update that often. I've had these two sitting in the vault and I was like why not give them to you guys. So that's that. I thought it would be better to have the original Steve Rogers hand the mantle over to Steve III instead of having it be like a government thing where they turn him into Captain America. And it's like I said this chapter had more so to do with the plot than anything. Plot and of course giving Steve III the chance to be Captain America.

Until Next Time!
