A/N: Thank you for the reviews. I have been trying to add a lot more details into the version of this story. CallaRose4Ever No Hermione is not pregnant. I can see where you might have gotten that though. I didn't realize my "hints" sounded like that. Thank you and LyraCassiopeisBlack For reviewing so far. On to the next chapter!
Chapter 3 - Secrets
Silence, you could have heard a pin drop when Harry finished the letter. He looked around the room. Ginny had silent tears in her eyes as she hugged Luna and Pansy, who were also crying, supporting each other. Neville and Blaise looked as if they had been stupefied. The Minister was sitting in a chair staring into space. Ron had turned as pale as Nearly Headless Nick and Draco, well his face was blank, emotionless, like back in school . Harry stared at Draco trying to figure out what his reaction meant when he spoke.
"Potter, we need to find her." Draco's tone was cold and harsh. Draco's mind was going a hundred miles a minute. With anger he hadn't felt since sixth year when his father made him take the mark. So many different scenarios racing in his mind, his father was an evil man and who knew what things he could be doing to her right now.
Ron was the one to respond to Draco's comment. "Of course we need to find her. She was kidnapped by your psycho of a father. Why do you even care about her wellbeing, maybe you're working with Lucius? Maybe you never really changed you slimy ferret!" By the time Ron had finished he had started shouting.
Draco's eyes darken dangerously. He had worked very hard to clear his family name and it took Weasley all of thirty seconds to make him feel that it was all for not. The incident at the Manor with Hermione had shown him a long time ago that he was wrong, that his father was wrong, that Voldemort was wrong. He wasn't about to let all of his work and her faith in him to be thrown away by this person who didn't even deserve her friendship.
"I am not helping my father. I haven't helped him since sixth bloody year! Or don't you recall I help save your worthless ass in the final battle." Draco had risen to his feet now. Hands on the table in front of him leaning in Ron's direction. "Stop wondering about my motives, which are non existent and none of your business, and focus at the task at hand," Draco's voice was low and dangerous. He saw Pansy and Blaise flitch a little near him. He was having trouble controlling his anger and he needed to calm down. Hermione's life depended on it.
"It is my business, she is my best friend!" Ron Snapped. Draco let out a malicious laugh at Ron's comment. "You still feel that she is your best friend, that is idiotic! I know the truth Weasley and you are lucky she stopped me from doing anything about it. I outrank your 'best friend' card every day of the week" Draco smirked as Ron's face ashened. Draco turned back to Harry who had been eying them during the entire exchange. His mind wondering what Draco knew that made Ron turn that color.
"Do you have any type of plan?" Draco asked Harry. Before Harry could answer Ron had gotten up and made his way over to Draco and punched him in the face. Making him fall to the ground. Ron was enraged and got on top of him and got in a few more punches. "You will never outrank me, you are a fucking death eater!" Almost every word come with a punch. Draco was shocked to start with but quickly recovered, blocking another punch and getting the advantage. He lifted his leg and rolled Ron to his back, putting Draco on top. "You're a worthless excuse for a Wizard. I'll outrank you always because you are a bastard and she loves me," Draco hissed at him giving him one solid hit allowing him to get to his feet.
Everyone watched in horror as Ron went off his rocker. The fight didn't last long as everyone was stunned by Draco's last declaration. Draco walked over to Blaise brushing himself off as if it was highly undignified to be dirty, which by pureblood standards it was. "Mind fixing my nose, I think he broke it?" Draco asked his school mate and best friend. Nodding Blaise fixed it with a flick of his wand. Harry had made his way over to Ron to help him off the floor before turning back to Draco. "Malfoy, what do you mean she loves you?" Harry asked. He was sure that he wasn't the only one to wonder what the blonde had meant with his comment.
Draco looked a little deflated. Hermione had wanted to tell Harry herself. She had planned to say something at the next dinner with Harry and Ginny. But with everything going on now there wasn't much room for the secret anymore. He hoped she wouldn't be too upset that he had let it slip. He couldn't stand Weasley being all high and mighty when he knew the truth. "We have been seeing each other for a little over a year. And I plan to ask her to marry me." Draco said pulling out a small box from his pocket and opening it, showing it to Harry.
Harry looked at the ring laying in the box, it had a Sapphire in the center with two diamonds on either side of it. The sapphire was encircled by a silver snake. Harry knew that sapphires were Hermione's birthstone. And this ring shouted Hermione from the brilliant blue to the stunning silver.
Everyone was shocked for a brief moment. Then all hell broke loose.
"What?"
"How?"
"When?"
"Really?"
"You"
"Love"
"Hermione?"
Ron seemed to have lost all thought and had he pulled out his wand. But Ginny was faster. "Stupefy!" A very loud and angry Ginny yelled at her brother stunning him. "I don't give a flying hippogriff about this right now. We need to find her, she is out there having who knows what done to her and you flubber worms are wasting time. Once I have my best friend back and safe you two can continue to fight like stupid giants." With that she lifted the spell and walked over to Harry. Harry placed an arm around her and watched for a moment.
"Ginny's right". Neville chimed. "We are wasting time," he continued. With things semi under control, Harry spoke.
"Alright, we know that Lucius has taken her. We have searched and warded him against the Manor but I don't know if he will be able to break them. I know he has his wand and was able to get into Hermione's flat. And we all know how strong her wards are." As Harry said this something prickled in the back of his mind. How could someone have gotten past her wards and runes protecting her home. She was the brightest witch of their age, that seemed almost impossible. Harry continued moving that thought to the back of his mind.
" Luna and Neville go to Hermione's flat, look for anything out of the ordinary. I don't know how Lucius got in, maybe searching can give us an answer. Pansy, work with Percy and Kingsley and make a list of anyone who might be helping Lucius. He has to be getting followers somehow. Also see if there's anyone that might have outwardly threatened Hermione, that could also point us to someone. Blaise, Draco, Ron, and Myself will look for possible hiding places for Lucius. Ginny, I know this is a very long shot, take a look at the letter and see if there is any hint of anything from Hermione. If she would have gotten us a message it would be in it." Harry finished and everyone made their way out of the room.
Draco hung back a moment until it was just him and Harry in the room. "Potter, she is alive." This was a statement not a question. Harry stared at him for a moment "How do you know?" he asked. "Because of this." Draco answered. Draco rolled up his left sleeve, Harry could see the faded dark mark before his eyes were turned to the disillusioned bracelet glowing red.
"Do you remember a few months back, when I had an assignment in Belgium." Harry nodded not saying a word wondering what this had to do with the bracelet. "During the battle with Goyle I nearly died. It took them hours to find me after the battle. I had managed to defeat Goyle but he had used the seperemtura spell and I had been hit. I was with Longbottom on the mission but he was dealing with Crabbe and we got split up. By the time Longbottom found me, well I was lucky to make it." Draco paused for a minute before he continued.
"Hermione was distraught, she knew that there is no way to keep things like that from happening. Not with our jobs but she wanted a way of knowing if help was needed or if serious injury had occurred. Somewhere she found a spell, I am sure it's the same one for the Weasley's clock, that allowed an object to be charmed to let the person know if the other person is okay. The charm is tied to my bracelet and her neckless. As long as we are looking at the objects we will have an idea of how the other person is doing. The red means in danger, if it starts to fade it means the person is losing their life force. If there is no color it means no life. There are a few more colors but those don't really matter at the moment." Draco finished looking at Harry. Harry listen to his every word remembering Hermione had been in a very sour mood after hearing about that mission.
Knowing Hermione was alive relieved Harry, he had a lot of questions and needed to know at least one and since they were by themselves he took advantage to ask. "Why didn't you guys tell me you were dating, why didn't she?" Harry Asked. Draco looked at Harry and saw the hurt written on his face. "We didn't know how anyone would react so we kept it secret at first, then it just became routine until recently." Draco stated. Harry nodded thinking about the reaction that just happened. "Let's go and find her." Harry said and with that they both left the room.
