Chapter 3

The following mid-morning, a few villagers arrived with Kirara to help out the monk and miko with the final burials.

"Kagome you should go on ahead with Mikazuki. Get him settled at the village. We can handle the rest. Please let Sango know that we should return by sunset or tomorrow." Miroku suggested.

"Are you sure? I can help…"

"Miko go ahead with the pup. It is not good for him to remain here. This one will escort you. I want to visit Rin before I go back to my lands." Sesshomaru walked towards the end of the village waiting for her and the pup.

Looking at the pup in her arms "ok then let's go." as she put him down to walk next to her.

The sun was high above when Kagome noticed her pup slowing down. "Are you hungry?"

He nodded with a yawn.

"Sesshomaru, we need to stop. I need to get Mikazuki some food and he's going to take a nap afterwards." she called out.

Sesshomaru stopped and looked over his shoulder. Without a word, he sat underneath a shaded tree and closed his eyes.

Kagome rolled her eyes and began to gather wood to start a fire. Once she did that, she set off to hunt. "Please stay here. I'll be right back ok?" as she left her pup close to the fire. She took off into the woods.

The little pup began swaying back and forth fighting sleep. Sesshomaru noticed and he placed his mokomoko for him to lay on next to him. Not a minute after, the little pup was fast asleep wrapped up comfortably.

'I can't place this scent. I am drawn to this pup.'

Kagome returned with a few rabbits in hand when she came upon the sight of her sleeping pup wrapped up in the demon lord fur stole.

Not wanting to disturb them, she moved about quietly to roast the rabbit.

"This one suggests feeding the pup raw meat instead of cooked." without opening his eyes.

"You think so? Inuyasha always ate cooked meat..." catching herself talking about the one she loved. Realizing it's been a long time since she last mentioned him.

Smelling salty tears he opened his eyes "why are you crying miko? It's been years since my brother is gone."

"You will never understand my feelings! So don't tell me how to feel." angrily answering back and it woke up the pup. Wiping away her tears and picking him up "hey are you hungry? I got rabbit. How do you want to eat it?" as she pointed at the raw and cooked meat.

The pup pointed towards the raw meat. With a surprised look, Kagome gave him the raw rabbit and silently offered the demon lord the other raw rabbit. Surprisingly, he took it and ate it.

"I didn't mean to yell at you. I'm sorry." Cleaning her pup face. "I haven't mentioned his name in a longtime and all sorts of emotions came back."

"Do not apologize. It was insensitive to say such things. You're right. I do not comprehend human feelings, even after all these years with Rin."

Silence took over their campsite.

"Thank you for the advice about feeding my little one. Can you tell me more that can help...since it seems I truly don't know how to raise him?"

"Hnn. We should get going before it gets dark."

Sesshomaru summons his cloud and offers his hand to Kagome. She picked up the wide eyed pup and climbed on then they took off towards the village.
