Chapter 3
"Told you it wouldn't be a problem," Kate smirked as Kara met her just outside of security at Gotham International.
"Well I didn't want to interfere with things. You're a busy lady," the blonde smirked.
"A nice quiet night tonight," the brunette gave her a look, which said, maybe a little too quiet.
"Gives us an opportunity to relax then," Kara told her as they started making their way toward the massive airport's exits.
"Well I need to make a stop at Wayne Enterprises first," Kate admitted. Kara nodded as they went through the exit doors. There waiting for them was a medium sized dark colored SUV, Kate popped open the back hatch and Kara put her suitcase and her large bag in the back. They then climbed into the back seat.
"We're all set Luke," Kate announced.
"All righty," the young man smiled and pulled the SUV out of the spot.
"Thanks for picking us up, Luke. I've been looking forward to meeting you," Kara said.
"Of course. I hope Kate has been telling you good things," he said as he pulled out of the airport exit and onto the main road.
"Nothing but," the blonde smiled.
"Good to know," Luke smiled as well. They travelled in comfortable silence for a little while before Kate noticed her friend constantly checking the rearview and side view mirrors.
"All good?" She asked.
"Only if you count being followed by a dark van for the last two miles, good. Given the time of night…" Luke let the thought die right there.
"We're bulletproof but don't lead them back to Wayne Enterprises. Head for Crows Headquarters. They'll back off," Kate told him.
"You got it," he said. Carefully Luke moved the car into the left hand lane and then the turning lane. While he did that, Kara turned around and pulled her glasses down just a little bit.
"The driver and passenger are wearing masks… rabbits? Also it looks like multiple gunmen behind them," the blonde whispered, thankful for her X-ray vision.
"Damn," Kate swore before unbuckling her seatbelt and moving up to the front passenger seat.
"What are you doing?" Luke was surprised to see her move up there.
"They're Alice's goons," she said.
"How did you see that? How would she know we were going to the airport?" He asked.
"We're lucky; they're as dumb as the look. They're wearing rabbit masks while they're driving. As for how Alice would know, I have no idea. Where is Mary?" Kate wanted to know.
"Safe," Luke wasn't about to say that she was in the BatCave. He didn't know who Kara was and how much she already knew.
"Good," Kate nodded and then went into the glove box grabbing a tablet out of the compartment. She quickly booted it up and hooked it into the SUV's USB port on the console.
"What have you got there?" Kara asked.
"X-ray vision," Kate winked and handed her the tablet before saying, "hold the tablet up on the top of the seat. Make sure the screen is facing our followers." The blonde nodded and did as she was asked. On the console, Kate watched as the tablet's super enhanced webcam visualize what was in the van.
"They have guns and a squad of guys. Floor it Luke," the brunette ordered.
"Hang on!" Luke pressed the accelerator down and the SUV jumped up in speed. Kara looked at Kate and the woman shook her head 'no' as imperceptibly as she possibly could. The blonde understood. Her identity could be compromised and that was the last thing they needed on her trip here.
Luke turned another left corner; the SUV was almost on two wheels. Kate whipped out her cell phone and called Crows Headquarters. Whoever she was speaking to, agreed to send a team in their direction.
"Crows team ETA is three minutes," Kate told them.
"Not that I want them too but they obviously know we're onto them – why haven't they…" Kara let the thought hang there.
"I have no idea. Normally by now, these guys would be being trigger happy. Alice must want us alive for some reason," Kate said.
"That's not a very comforting thought," Luke admitted as he hooked a right. They were only five blocks from Crows Headquarters.
"Yeah I know what you mean," the brunette frowned. That's when they heard the sirens. The Crows were there. They sped past the SUV as they came from the other direction and almost immediately the van attempted to turn itself around. They were going too fast and the van rolled over.
"Slow down," Kate told Luke. He nodded and practically brought the SUV to a stop. More sirens could be heard as Crows backup heading their way.
"Do we stay?" He wanted to know.
"Head to Crows Headquarters. My guess is that someone already called my Dad," his friend said. Luke nodded and made sure to get the vehicle moving toward the large building.
