Chapter 2: 91 Days, 06 Hrs.
Amelia Earhart woke up. Where in the cut am I? The Aviatrix fumbled around in some kind of confined space.
Tink!
Her crate opened with such vigour it shocked the usually unshakable woman.
"Hello? Who's there." No, it couldn't be! Amelia snuck behind some lumber & scaffolding, preparing to walk out, but something caught her ear, "Teddy should have told you not come in here." It was him!
"It was a beautiful sunrise Mr. Daley"
"Amelia!" Larry knew the moment was coming, but he still was filled with a warmth that even the coldest day would fear. "It's so good to see you!" He squeezed out as he ran up and hugged her.
"Mr. Daley, you are a very strong huger." For Amelia almost no time had passed, considering she was a statue and had no brain, but she could tell it had been some time for him. "I've missed you too, Ace."
Larry explained to Amelia that it had been 3 months, & he was still in love with her. The pair went and unlocked the crate to Charles Lindbergh, or as Amelia called him 'Lindy'.
"Hiya Meeley! Where, & when, are we?" Where the first words out of his mouth.
"Hi Mr. Lindbergh, my name is Larry. Over there is Teddy Roosevelt, he'll help you tonight." The odd man got up and walked over to the 26th president.
"Now Mr. Daley, I presume we get the night to ourselves?" She grinned wildly under her unkempt hair. "Because we have some catching up to do." The pair were walking through the hall where Larry was working. It was a more confined space than the rest of the Museum, more personal. Amelia slowly crept towards a bench behind a pillar, tugging Larry with her.
"What first, Mrs. Earhart." Larry said mockingly as the individuals stopped and sat on the metal seat.
"Well Larry," She mimicked his tone, "How have these 3 months been for you"
"Not great Amelia," Larry's voice began to quiver. "It's my son."
"You have a child?" Amelia didn't expect that from the man who saved the world.
"Uh-huh. His name's Nick, and he's a good kid. It's my ex-wife that doesn't care for him that I'm upset about."
"You've been Divorced?!" Amelia was even more surprised.
"For a long time. Nicky's been at a Boarding school because she doesn't want to take care of him." Larry's face got red as he continued. "She says it's her new babies, but I just don't know. I'd love to take care of him, but with the hours I work? I just don't know."
"I was married once." Her sound of longing reminded Larry of his own feelings. "He was a good man, but he's long gone. I wonder if it's a real memory or if it's all boondoggle." Amelia looked down in her lap, at nothing in particular. Her tight brown leggings restricting her movement ever so slightly.
Larry gave a quick look at the world famous pilot, then embraced her. The pair hugged loosely, but with nothing but comfort. They both knew what the other had experienced. Amelia was the first to get up, but Larry soon joined her.
"So Amelia, would you like to meet some of the residents?" Larry was planning on distracting Amelia after a downer of a conversation.
"I'd love to razzle with you Mr. Daley!" Sounding chipper after the heartfelt conversation the pair had.
"But first, you gotta stop calling me Mr. Daley, just Larry is fine."
"Sure thing Ace."
The pair slowly walked over to the main hall. Amelia saw some familiar faces, and some unfamiliar ones too. Larry introduced her to Teddy who was talking to Sacajawea.
"You must be the other Theodore Roosevelt that Larry was talking about. Amelia Earhart at your service, sir."
"Other Roosevelt Larry?" Teddy sounded almost jealously.
"Just a bust we met at the Smithsonian." Larry assured him.
"He had an itchy nose." Amelia blurted.
The next went to the Hall of Miniatures, where they met Jed & Octavius. The pair were doing minor tampering in their exhibits. Jed added a new house at the edge of the mountain. Octavius was tuning a harp he had just built.
Octavius and Jed suddenly jumped into song, specifically Let's Dance by David Bowie. Jed sang vocals as Octavius strummed his harp. The cowpoke banged on the hollow mountain as drums while the Romans trumpeted their sounds. Quickly, Amelia took it to heart and started jiving. Soon, Larry picked up his feet and followed suit. The lights in the room suddenly started flashing as the two grooved. Eventually, the performance came to an end & Jed was the first to speak up.
"Hey Gigantor! Who's your Lady friend!" The 1:12 man shouted. "She looks kinda like that girl from Smith's son, Ian!"
"First off my liege, I apologize for my compatriots rantings." Octavius said climbing out from behind his harp. "And second off, it's Smithsonian, not Smith's son Ian. What can we do for you sir & madam."
"However dip the wet smack is, he happens to be right. I was at the Smithsonian during your little wingding."
"You gave us the ride, right?" Jed asked curiously.
"In fact I did"
It was 2 minutes till sunrise, and Larry was making sure the new arrivals would be in position for when they would freeze. Charles Lindbergh was in a friendly position, reflecting his personality and Amelia was just getting set. "Abyssinia, Mack." Amelia said just before the sun rose.
"My name's not Mack either!" Larry protested, making Amelia giggle profusely.
She posed with the biggest smile he had seen in his life. They were truly in love, the World Famous Aviatrix & the Night Guard.
