Author's note: was supposed to post this some days ago but cut-off internet and trying to figure out how to create and post in AO3 delayed it. (Still dunno how to)
The aforementioned towering cement and glass felt much, much taller with Ollie now feeling dejected and sad for there is still no answer to her never-ending questions.
Ollie felt...small. Felt different than other people around her. Maybe it's her resurrected, stitched up body. She still remember the panic that she felt when her left arm almost fell down after the Baka-gge Corp incident.
"Swinging this sword for some time must have loosen my arm." Ollie made a mental note about that. She can't make herself look weirder, her unusual appearance is weird enough.
The afternoon sky sizzled the sidewalk with heat that gives out a clattering noise everytime her differently paired shoes would gain contact with the cemented walkway.
Ollie's strides a lot slower than before. Her cheerful aura gone, replaced by a negative one that is further amplified by her head drooping slightly lower. Looking down on the ground.
Some still greeted her. And after what she did on the festival, more people got encouraged to do so.
At least on the beginning.
Seeing her current expression changed their decision.
Also because of her replies with dismissive tones like "Un", "Yeah...", and "Hi..." Ollie doesn't even bother on looking towards them.
After some more hours of non-directional walking, she felt...hungry. Well, there is no gurgle sounds of her stomach nor the feeling of starvation.
She just feel weak and her body needs nutrition. Whatever those can be.
Sighing, Ollie remembered that it's been more than 12 hours ever since she got resurrected.
When she finally raised her head to see where she currently is, Ollie saw a small signboard. Customized to look like an arrow pointing straight ahead, hanging in the side road.
"First-year Anniversary! One free ramen of any choice for today!"
Ollie brightened up after reading what's written on it. She doesn't dislike ramen unlike cabbages, so that regained her high hopes.
"100 meters! It's a small distance when compared to what I've already walked today." Ollie became more excited when she saw just how close she is, her previously slow gait are now gaining speed.
As she found the same shining signboard that illuminates the now orange sky as the night approaches, Ollie became excited when she learned that she's getting closer...and familiar with her surroundings?
"I remember this crossroad. Me and my siblings were told to not run and play around here as we might get hit by vehicles." Ollie slowed a little bit to reminisce and remember, she admitted that it's hard for her to remember stuffs now than before when she was alive.
But still, she continued running down the side road after some seconds as the whole place seemingly became much, much more familiar. The buildings, stalls and stores, and even the dent on the road that is still there amuses Ollie.
When she finally saw the long line of people, Ollie went further to see if it's the line that ends up to the ramen shop.
"But this is my home..."
Ollie thought after seeing the small and humble establishment. Gone are the pottery of plants outside the house. Gone are the small front yard where she used to play around with her siblings and neighbor's kids.
Only the ramen shop made out of wood and cement remained.
Ollie steeled herself when she took a glance to the landowner happily talking to someone.
"Maybe it's the owner of the shop..." Ollie thought to herself as she came back to the end of the line (which became slightly fewer) to get inside the ramen shop and investigate.
Maybe confront the landowner too and ask what happened to her house and family.
After a short while, it's finally Ollie's turn to take an order.
"Anything spicy for me please." Ollie said, while quickly looked at her left. Ever since she got inside the shop Ollie is always stealing a glance to the landowner, making sure that she can have time to confront him.
"Only that, miss?" The crew asked, startling her a little. The crew is annoyed, another one that came for the free order.
Good thing this ramen shop isn't that famous, else there will be a much, much longer line.
"Yes, please." If Ollie noticed the other's annoyed tone, she didn't let to show it when she replied.
After a minute or two of waiting, Ollie can now be seen approaching the landlord. Spicy ramen in her hand, it's heat only reduced by a napkin provided by the shop.
Ollie cleared her throat to take the landlord's attention that can be seen eating alone. A little smile on his face.
"Is this seat taken?" But before he can answer, Ollie already sat down. Her placing down the bowl of ramen made a low sound of crash, to show her annoyance but not loud to take other people's attention.
Some people are already looking at her while she was on the line, probably aware about what she did on the festival.
"What do you need, miss...?" The landlord asked, dragging the last word for some second as he doesn't really know who is the teenage girl right in front of him.
"What happened to the house that stood here before?" Ollie asked before taking a first bite to her ramen.
"Who are you and why do you want to know?" The landlord asked, the words sounds aggressive but his tone of voice calm. He used a handkerchief to clean the residue of ramen on his mouth before using it to clean his hands.
"I'm...someone that knows the Kureiji household. An overseas friend, if you will. I lost contact with them...some time ago." Ollie swallowed her saliva before munching another, lying at that moment made her felt uncomfortable.
The current landlord sighed, it's a good thing that she asked about that, and not who- or what rented the land before this ramen shop got built.
The only thing he knew is that he got paid handsomely by a company called "Cover corp" to hide some people in here that are currently refugees. He was told to not let anyone in and accidentally see who those refugees are.
"One of their children went missing and was never found. They left this place as the house...brings back unpleasant memories." The landlord replied before standing up, taking the now empty bowl with him.
He got startled for a second after seeing a familiar figure nodding at him, waiting in the line too. He returned the gesture before walking away.
Ollie didn't notice it, as her thoughts only screamed a single sentence after learning everything:
I will retrieve my house!
How do I retrieve my house?
Ollie ate the ramen slowly, her mind far away as she was thinking how to do so.
"Is this seat taken?" A teenage girl asked, interrupting Ollie's thoughts. She doesn't know who this girl is, nor seen her before.
Ollie judged her physical looks quickly (to see if she can include her to Ollie's harem). One or two years older than her. The only thing that's currently nagging her is that she looks like a casual office lady working in a black company.
She looks...normal. Too normal. Which isn't normal. At least that's what Ollie thought about the another.
"Not really, but..." Ollie got taken aback when the girl sat down faster before she can finish her reply. As if it's the only response that she need before sitting down.
"I was impressed on what you did back then." The stranger asked, taking a little bite on her food. Her vague sentence a test, seeing if she will feign ignorance or not.
Not to mention that she has been monitoring the unusual teenage girl before she reached the city. The company CEO is excited to include a zombie in the group, there is still a slot for someone like her.
Well it's not like resurrecting a person is easy, or else everyone will do it. At least that's what Rushia had said.
"Yeah... I don't actually know why I did all that. I'm kinda embarrassed to talk about it." Ollie took a stand of "not wanting to talk about it" in an indirect tone.
"Yet no reporters are already approaching you. Let's say that...my company has something to do about that. Also, I came here to...ask you for a job proposal." The stranger said the words slowly, understanding that if she is in her current position she might get shocked for a sudden job proposal.
"Why me? You can see that I look different than the rest you know?" Ollie didn't hide the confusion in her tone. Albeit an opportunity suddenly landed on her, she thought that she must have some freedom doubting it at least.
"Your different looks are the very reason why. And for sure no human can reattach their limb after it almost fell off all by itself, As if nothing had happened." The woman said, letting her know that she know more than just an average joe when it comes to her. Hoping to get her interested.
"What do you want?" Ollie asked with low volume, her tone of voice oozing with seriousness. She didn't asked anyone about direction or directly talked to anyone face-to-face as to not let then be aware of her horrible, zombified body in case someone looks at her up and close.
"Me? I'm just a normal office gal of a certain company that is under the watchful eyes of the government. Our line of work deals with unusual people like you." The woman said, noticing that Ollie just finished her serving.
She must convince her right now, she doesn't know when she'll have another chance to talk to her like this.
"Then? What does your company do to people like me? Work us to death?" Ollie stifled a laugh, she just remembered that she already is.
"Our goal is to try and normalize people like you. That's all I can say for now, unless we'll head to the office right now for you to tell the specifics. I can't do that right here, because of secrecy and other reasons." Ollie noticed the girl lowered her voice and with a tinge of seriousness also.
THAT excites Ollie, and she's in mood for some super secret government activity. At least she can tell her some secrets before and not after she signed the contract.
"It's not like I'm busy or something. I think we can do it after you finished tha-" Ollie tried to feign disinterest but before she could finish speaking, the girl ate the food so fast before you can even finish reading this sentence.
"Alright let's go." With a gulp, the girl gestured Ollie to stand up and follow her.
Outside the shop a few meters away, the girl nodded to a man standing outside a car before going in the driver's seat.
"What will be my job exactly?" Ollie asked, as she sat comfortably inside.
"Become a Vtuber." The girl replied. With a loud thud she ordered the driver to head to the office.
"Didn't expected a normal looking office. But I guess it's to blend in with the surroundings." Ollie commented, now walking inside the building where the girl had brought her.
"You're looking at the building itself, don't stand agape when you see your coworkers." The girl answered, which made Ollie's eyes knit with confusion as she still haven't asked her name.
She's about to do so if not for the said girl opening a door and signaling Ollie to get in while speaking to someone inside.
"Yagoo-sama, she's here."
"Good job for succeeding to do so despite the sudden request, A-chan. You may continue doing your usual work."
With a nod, the girl called A-chan walked away.
Ollie took a quick scan to the room. A normal looking CEO office. Shelves, picture frames, pot of plants.
At least it's normal if she will compare it to the ones on shows and movies that she watched before.
The only difference are three monitors showing three different girls with lots of sentences coming and going fast in the far left or right side of the screen.
Those sentences were sometimes written in japanese, english or indonesian.
The man turned around to look at Ollie, before speaking.
"Do you know who they are?" The CEO asked, she learned as she saw the CEO plaque atop the middle one of the tree TV's, showing a seemingly college looking girl with violet colored hair waving around.
"No...but they look cute and beautiful though. It's too..." Ollie is unsure about the right word. Which is supplied by the CEO, to her surprise.
"Otherworldly? They look unusual yet attractive in their own unique ways?" Ollie nodded with the realization.
"Do they really look like that? I mean they look like animated." Her reply earned a hearty but short laugh from the CEO.
"Like what Ms. A-chan said before, we deal with unusual people like you. You'll be working with people like these three, and there are more than a dozen Vtubers in our compa-"
"Where's the contract?" The CEO was taken aback with Ollie's request.
"What do you mean?" He asked, now knitting his brows. This is too easy, he thought.
"I've heard enough. Where's the contract?" Ollie said while trying to retain her neutral expression, which is about to break as she can't contain her excitement.
"Here, but you only heard about your coworker and the nature of your job." the CEO saw Ollie finished signing the paper he provided, she did it so fast he can tell that she's excited.
"Two birds in one stone. Getting funds to retake the land and rebuild my house while building my harem." Ollie thought.
"When do I start?" She said after handing out the contract and pen back to the CEO.
"As soon as you can, maybe tomorrow. You don't have a house and you still haven't found your family, so you'll be treated as a "refugee" and will live temporarily in one of the guest houses of the company, there is also guest rooms for these rushed situations."
"Maybe we can move you with the first generation Indonesian branch." The CEO said, and then he remembered something that might become crucial later on.
"Or maybe we can help you find your family, the Kureiji household so you can do your job at home. The company are doing this for 3 years now, I think your family can accept your current appeara-" Ollie ran closer to hug the CEO.
"Will you really do that!? Thank you very much Mr. Yagoo!" Ollie gave her a bright, toothy grin before taking three steps backwards.
"You surprised me there, whoo. Anyway, I think I can give you the nearest empty workspace with available PC so you can watch Vtubers and help you with your job." Yagoo took a breath, before signaling Ollie to follow her outside the room.
"There, this workstation. I heard zombies need less sleep, but don't forget to take a rest later. Okay?" Ollie replied with a nod, and a mischievous grin slowly appeared on her face as she opened many tabs.
It's true that some tabs are about Vtubers, but she knew how she can get closer to her future fans.
Memes. She need to get update on current memes.
Slightly cringing to myself while writing this, feels like the delivery isn't good.
It's not like that's gonna stop me. As long as I don't know what wrong it's fine LMAO
Some bombs already exploded in this one, but bigger ones are just being planted.
Welcome to the mine fields, I guess.
I'll try to create one-two posts that consists of 2k words everyday(as long as the internet permits me to do so, and aniki-sama owns it for online job purposes).
Fingers crossed that I can accomplish it, I don't want to tarnish the name of Ralts Bloodthorne with writing an incomplete, short story.
