The Return of Four Eyed Jack

Chapter 3: Fact Or Fiction

Arnold, Helga, Phoebe and Gerald were in the state capitol, attending the wedding reception of one of Arnold's old friend's from college, a guy named Micheal who was marrying a lovely woman named Deborah. The wedding was beautiful and they were now enjoying the reception.

The two couples were dancing together, though one of them wasn't exactly having a blast here.

It was Helga, who was distracted from the festivities around them, as her mind were elsewhere.

"I wonder how the kids are going. I hope Phil isn't telling them any of his crazy stories again..."She thought to herself while her husband noticed her expression.

"Everything alright, Honey?..."He asked and Helga put on a smiling face.

"Sure, why wouldn't it be?..."She said as she put on a smile but her husband sent her a dry look, since he knew something was wrong with her.

"Really Helga, what's the matter?..."He asked again and her smile dropped a bit.

His wife sighed as she looked at him.

"I'm just a little worried about the kids. We don't usually leave them alone for so long..."She admitted. "I guess I'm a little worried that they might get into trouble or even cause it..."She said while Arnold heard this and put a hand on his wife's shoulder, sending a soothing look at her.

"Relax, Helga. Mom, Dad, Grandpa and Grandma are watching them and keeping them safe. The kids are in good hands..."Arnold said.

His wife still looked a little uneasy. Even if she knew that her in-laws were great and Andy and Kiara could handle themselves at times, she still worried for her babies and god-children.

"I know but maybe I should call and check up on them...just to make sure everything is okay..."She said but he knew that the kids would be fine.

"Trust me, the kids will be fine..."Arnold reassured his wife. "They're with the same people who raised me, after all..."He reminded her.

Helga heard this and smiled a little at that.

"I suppose so..."She said.

Soon, it was time for the bride and groom to cut the cake and Arnold and Helga went to enjoy the reception, both sure that there kids were just find and probably having fun right now.

Meanwhile

At The Boarding House

Andy, Megan, Kiara and Kiki were all still in Arnold's old bedroom.

The four kids were talking about Phil's story, wondering if there was truth to the story.

"Do you think that four eyed Jack is real?..."Megan asked as she looked at them and Andy flinched.

"No way, G was just pulling our leg..."Andy said, though he seemed a little creeped out by the tale. "Besides, Dad told us that G has been known to stretch the truth..."He reminded.

"Yeah, I bet these glasses belong to someone who lives in the boarding house..."Kiara said while the two little girls still looked at the old glasses.

"But what if it isn't? What if he didn't make it up? What if he's real?..."Megan said while Kiki nodded, looking nervously at the glasses.

"Megan, there's no such thing as ghosts..."Andy told his little sister who didn't look like she believed him.

"Well, what if that's what the ghosts want you to think..."Megan said as she grabbed her Mimi doll.

"Come on, think! If this Jack guy lived in the basement and never left, how did he have the money to live here? Much less buy what he needed to cook refried beans?..." Andy pointed out.

Megan, who is convinced that she is right, had an answer.

"Maybe he liked living in the basement. Remember, Daddy liked being up here as a kid..."She said quickly, while her brother was skeptical.

"That's different, his room was cool..."Andy pointed out and the two began arguing again.

Kiki, on the other hand, stood up and headed to the door.

"Where are you going, Kiki?..."Kiara asked, causing the Shortman siblings to stop their argument.

"To find the ghost..."Kiki answered.

"What? Why?..."Megan said as she walked to Kiki.

"To give back his glasses..."Kiki said. "Maybe I was suppose to find'em...and give them back to Four Eyed Jack..."Kiki said, looking serious as she walked to the door.

Megan heard this and liked Kiki's idea. They would be going on a supernatural adventure, just like in the movies.

"Yeah, and then maybe the ghost can go away..."The blonde girl added as she went over to her best friend.

The older kids weren't too sure of the idea. Andy, in particular seemed against it.

"I think if that would have worked, someone would have to done it already..."Andy said

He didn't want to admit it but he was kind of creeped out by ghosts and the idea of the boarding house having one but he wouldn't admit it.

So, he chose to hide it as he smiled and tried to play it cool.

"Come on! I keep telling you that ghosts aren't real..."He added.

His sister didn't look convinced, before she heard a creaking sound. Kiki and Kiara also heard it too.

"Did you hear that?..."Megan said.

"What?..."Andy asked.

"Something made a bump..."Kiara commented and Kiki jumped up.

"It's him! He's looking for his glasses..."Kiki said as she fearfully looked for the glasses.

Andy looked unbelieving while Kiara rolled her eyes.

"Kiki, it's just your imagination..."She said and Andy nodded.

"Kiara's right. This old house always makes noises and stuff because of how old it is. It nothing to worry about, it was probably a raccoon or something..."He said, though he I he was hiding how spooked he was.

The two little girls looked like they didn't believe him.

"What if the ghost is following us? What if he's listening to us right now?..."Megan argued and Andy was a little creep out by the thought of that, before he glared at her.

"How many times do I have to tell you that ghosts aren't real, Megan. I'm sure someone would have found proof by now..."Andy shot back but Megan was being stubborn.

The little blonde girl turned away from him and "hmpt", crossing her arms before turning to her best friend.

"Oh, you don't know what you're talking about!..."Megan said stubbornly before Kiki grabbed the glasses again.

"Come on, Megan. Let's go..."Kiki said as she left, taking the glasses with her.

Megan hesitated for a moment before following her friend.

"Kiki, wait..."Megan said as she followed her out of the room.

Kiara and Andy looked to each other and realized that their sisters were rushing off to find a ghost. The older girl shook her head at this.

"Well, looks like we're on a ghost hunt..."Kiara muttered as she rolled her eyes again. "Come on, lets follow them before they get in trouble..."She said to Andy.

The blonde boy didn't want to but nodded, following after their sisters.

"Criminy! I thought we'd just read a couple of comic books, have some pizza and maybe watch a movie but noo! Now I'm stuck chasing after two wanna-be ghost hunters!..."Andy thought in dismay as he and Kiara went after them.

A few moments later

The four kids went down the steps that lead to the next floor.

Suddenly, a creak is heard and Kiki and Megan jumped, startled.

"Listen to that sound!..."Megan said.

"It's the ghost..."Kiki said, holding onto Megan.

Her older sister heard this and tried to reassure her sister.

"Kiki, it's just a step. It's not a ghost..."Kiara said.

"Yeah. Dad told us that the bottom step of these stairs always creeks when you step on it..."Andy said as he even demonstrated it.

The two little girls calmed down a bit but then there was another, louder sound that wasn't from the step.

"It's the ghost!..."Kiki said and Megan nodded.

"Yeah, it's Four Eyed Jack...he's here, just like great grandpa said!..."She said as she and her friend nodded.

Kiara saw this and sighed.

"Oh, brother..."She thought. "A little help here?..."She said to Andy, who was looking around himself.

She noticed that he had a rather strange look on his face. His eyes were wide and his palms were sweating a bit.

It made the dark hair girl look at him in concern.

"Is he sick?..."Kiara thought before speaking up. "Are you okay, Andy?..."She asked.

"Huh? Oh yeah, Kiara. I'm fine..."Andy said, trying to look cool.

Trying and failing

Before Kiara could say something to him, their sisters and get them to abandon their ghost hunt, something happened. Suddenly, a loud thump was heard, surprising the four kids, especially the little ones.

"You hear it?!..."Megan said to Kiki.

"He's real close! I can tell!..."Kiki said quickly and the two little girls ran off.

Kiara and Andy groaned at this. If their parents ever found out they were off hunting ghosts, they'd be grounded till college. They couldn't let that happen.

The two older kids sighed before chasing off after their little sisters before they got into trouble or did something crazy.

"Oh man!..."Andy thought as this crazy adventure has only just begun.
