Chapter 3

Skye woke up after a long night of tossing and turning but no nightmares last night for once. Remembering Tony said there would be someone here today around 1 she made sure everything was in her room out of sight. She cleaned up some dishes and saw an old picture frame, she recognized the man as Tony's father Howard Stark and with him a pretty lady she assumed was Tony's mom she was staring at the picture until she heard the door open spinning around she found Tony's hands full, smiling at her.

"Um care to help, I did bring these for you," he said in a way of greeting she laughed and set down the frame to help him. He brought the bags into the kitchen and picked up the frame and smiled sadly.

"For so long I thought my dad was just the worst dad possible, but after seeing some stuff Shield had, I know he did the best he could." Tony put the frame back on the shelf,

"And your mom?" Skye asked even though she knew it was personal, but she did want to know more.

"She was the best, how she put up with my dad I will never know but I am glad she did," Tony said turning to her finally.

"So wanna see what I brought you?" he started to dump out the bags full of food, he had some fruit, lunch meat, and mostly junk food, and Skye started laughing as she picked up a Lunchable,

"Do you think I am 12?" she asked laughing but he snagged it out of her hand.

"That is for me actually" Skye laughed harder as he protectively put it in the fridge.

"Thank you for this Tony really," Skye said, helping to put the food away.

"Well can't have you go hungry, so have you tried out your powers near the lake yet?" He noticed she stiffened at that,

"No rush, just you know it is safe out here no one around for miles I owe the land so if something gets destroyed it can be fixed…" he paused making Skye look up at him,

"Or you can always come back to the Avenger Compound and Train? We have experience with powered people Skye, we can try and help" She nodded considering then bite her lip thinking if she should tell Tony about her visitor last night,

"Okay I know that look, what are you hiding?" He said before she could make up her mind.

"Um, well I that is actually the second offer I got in the past 12 hours," she said slowly putting away some apples,

"Is that so, from who?" Tony crossed his arms waiting and slightly curious.

"His name was Gordan, he has powers and came here last night and told me he can take me somewhere, to people who know whats it is like to have powers and learn to control them" She rested her hand on the counter, she wasn't sure why she was so nervous telling him like she was asking for permission.

"Well, it is up to you Skye like I said this place is yours for as long as you need it. We would love to have you at the compound though so I can see what you can do with those powers" Tony smiled at her and she laughed. Skye was relaxed around Tony. She couldn't explain it but she was calm around him and she felt safe. She admitted to herself it would be amazing to meet some avengers too.

Skye and Tony ate lunch together, went to the lake, and just talked about hacking about her life before Shield and his life as Iron Man. Skye told him about her team, about how Fitz was the first one to really accept her after she got her powers, and about how he and Tony would work great together. She did mention his injury but Tony waved her off saying he would keep getting better. Skye was actually laughing and smiling with her and Tony making jokes at each other. They played cards after the sun went down making smores in the fireplace.

Tony couldn't remember the last time he was this relaxed, felt this comfortable sharing stories and just having a day off he felt a connection with Skye like she was a long lost little sister to him or something, but they just clicked. Tony noticed that Skye was drifting in and out of sleep when they finished their last game of cards, she finally dipped her head onto the couch and passed out, Tony smiled.

He picked her up carefully and placed her in her room placing a blanket over her, he turned down the hall and lingered at the door to the nursery, slowly he opened it looking back at the crib and the bear inside it looking around the room he wiped a tear away and started to pack up the room.

Skye woke up warm and in her bed, she was confused for a moment before rustling noises came from down the hall to find boxes piled outside the nursery room, she knew he was inside. She saw him on the floor with the last box holding the teddy bear-like he can't let it go.

"I had this bear when I was little and it was the only thing I kept from my childhood, I wanted to give it to her, and give her a better father than I had" Skye just went over and sat next across from him,

"I am guessing you wanted a girl?" Skye said softly, Tony smiled.

"I always pictured a girl, would've loved a son too. But when I would lay my hand on her belly I just knew she would be a girl" Tony let a tear slide down his face before looking up at Skye who was now staring at the bear he was holding. He held it out to her.

"Will you hold onto it for me?" he asked and her eyes shot to his,

"What? Tony no this is for your child someday I can't" Tony just pushed the bear into her hands.

"Please, when and if I ever do have a child I will come to get it. So make sure you take really good care of it for me, yes?" Skye didn't know what to say so she just smiled at the bear and nodded at him.

"Well I am exhausted now, I think I am going to take a nap before I head back to the compound" getting up he looked back at her still on the ground holding the bear, he smiled.

"Did you give any thought to coming with me?" he asked and she looked up at him, he saw the tears in her eyes.

"Can I have some time to think about it?" she asked, finally getting off the ground. He nodded.

"Take all the time you need, I think I will come back once a week if that is okay with you. I feel like I can actually relax here for once" He laughed a little as they left the room.

"Go get some rest Tony, I will see you in a couple of hours" Skye went to the kitchen clutching the bear to her chest and he smiled at that.
