Anime (Japanese: アニメ, IPA: [aɲime] (About this soundlisten)) is hand-drawn and computer animation originating from Japan. In Japan and in Japanese, anime (a term derived from the English word animation) describes all animated works, regardless of style or origin. However, outside of Japan and in English, anime is colloquial for Japanese animation and refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. Animation produced outside of Japan with similar style to Japanese animation is referred to as anime-influenced animation.
The earliest commercial Japanese animations date to 1917. Isekai (Japanese: 異世界, transl. "different world" or "otherworld") is a genre of light novels, manga, anime and video games that revolve around a person who is transported to and has to survive in another world, such as a fantasy world, virtual world or parallel universe. This plot device allows the audience to learn about the new world at the same pace as the protagonist. Isekai works can also often fall under the fantasy, science fiction, portal fantasy or accidental travel genres.
Often, the protagonist is depicted as already being familiar with the parallel world, as it is a pre-existing fictional universe in their world. It is also common for the parallel world to be unknown to them, as is the case with 'Reverse Isekai' stories such as Sonic X and Isekai Quartet. The new universe can be an entirely different alien world where only the protagonist retains knowledge and has any memory of their former life, as in Saga of Tanya the Evil and Ascendance of a Bookworm. How the protagonist gets there can vary greatly: in some media, they are reincarnated into that world after dying; in others, they are summoned or teleported to that world by accidental or intended reasons, as in the case of Isekai Cheat Magician; or they may unknowingly have walked through a portal connecting two worlds, as in the case of Spirited Away and Inuyasha. In Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, an entire population of humans appeared in the magically created world was transported from Earth and got partially mixed with local dragonlike Heavenly Beings. Isekai may also take place in the virtual world of a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, such as .hack and Sword Art Online, and it may also be one where a formerly virtual world turns into a real one, such as in Log Horizon and Overlord.
The genre can be divided into two types "transition into another world" (異世界転移, isekai ten'i) and "reincarnation into another world" (異世界転生, isekai tensei). The former, where the protagonist gets transported to another world (e.g. by traveling into it, or being summoned into it), was more common in earlier works. The latter, more common in newer works, sees the protagonist die in their original world and then be reborn in another world, or otherwise inhabit (or swap place with) the body of a person already existing in the other world. The common usage of sudden collisions with trucks as plot devices in the deaths of the main protagonist led to a popular internet meme, affectionately referring to the often-generic trucks as if they were a singular entity named "truck-kun". This was parodied in KonoSuba, where the main protagonist, believing he died saving someone from a truck, was later revealed to actually have been hit by a slow-moving tractor, instead dying of shock-induced cardiac arrest.
The new world could be a literal new world, such as an alternate planet or fantasy reality; a new-to-the-protagonist world, such as a historical, real-world setting; or a fictional new world, such as the protagonist waking up in a book, film, or video game.
In some works the person being transported is a NEET, shut-in, gamer (as in No Game No Life), or overworked salaryman/woman (as in By the Grace of the Gods), who in the new fantasy world, are now are able to succeed through use of their comparatively unimportant-in-real-life genre knowledge or skills, or they may have special skills or equipment, such as a game interface only they can access. Their power can range from tremendous magical abilities surpassing anyone else (as in In Another World with My Smartphone), to relatively weak, as in Re:Zero, where the protagonist does not gain any special power beyond the ability to survive death in a type of temporal loop. These common isekai cliches and tropes are often parodied in such works as KonoSuba, where the protagonist Kazuma Satou receives no powers, and is forced to develop as a character in the typical fantasy setting "from the ground up". In some examples, the main character is an ordinary person who thrives in their new environment thanks to some normal skills they learned in their previous life such as cooking, engineering or medicine, which are far more advanced in modern Japan than in the world they are sent to.
While the protagonist of a classic isekai work is usually a "chosen hero", there have been a large number of alternative takes on the concept. One trend is the protagonist inhabiting the body of an unimportant side character, or villain (as in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!). In Drifters, the people entering the fantasy world are historical generals and other warriors who are more brutal than the inhabitants of the world themselves, and in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, where the protagonist starts as a slime with special abilities rather than a human. Some stories involve people being reincarnated as unusual inanimate objects, like a magical onsen. Others, known as "reverse isekai", follow beings from a fantasy universe who have been transported to or reincarnated on modern-day Earth, including the anime Laidbackers and Re:Creators. There are also some works, referred to as "two-way isekai", in which beings from both modern-day Earth and a fantasy universe interact inside each other's worlds such as GATE and Fushigi Yûgi.
An offshoot of the isekai genre is the "second chance" or "reincarnation" genre, where a protagonist who, upon dying, finds themselves transported, not to a different world and new body, but into their own younger self. With their new knowledge and older intellect, they are able to relive their life avoiding their previous pitfalls.
In many works, isekai overlaps with the harem genre, where the protagonist gains the affections of several potential love interests, who may or may not be human.

"WE OBEY!" They all chanted as they went to their positions of interest.
The Dalek Time Strategist then went towards the central command control and eagerly announced to the entire War Fleet of that now was the time.
"ATTENTION ALL DALEK WAR FLEETS, THIS IS THE TIME STRATEGIST, THE AGE OF THESE SO CALLED GODS IS OVER! THE AGE OF THE DALEKS HAS COME! READY THE ARMADA FOR WE SHALL ATTACK THESE SO CALLED GODS AND THEIR CREATIONS, AND BRING THEM ALL DOWN TO OUR KNEES AS THEY WITNESS ALL OF THEIR CREATIONS BURN!"

And then, everything went to hell pretty quickly.

Once upon a time, in 2022, The Daleks invaded one of the Earths of The Kawahara Verse. In the time of The Sword Art Online Incident. A boy known as Kirito, The Black Swordsman, was destined to save the remaining players from their fate as he fought the countless virtual monsters throughout the game alongside his lover, Asuna Yuuki, The Lightning Flash, but that didn't matter because it never happened anyway.
Once upon a time, in 2046, The Daleks invaded one of the Earths of The Kawahara Verse. When a boy known as Arita Haruyuki, Silver Crow, was destined for greatness alongside his lover, Kuroyukihime, The Black King, but that didn't matter because it never happened anyway.
Instead, the invading Daleks derailed all of these events as they let loose The Thing That Wasn't when it slipped the chains of The Could've Been King. The Neverweres tracked it down and leashed it again, much to the disappointment of some of The Time Lord War Council, who agreed that The Thing had good (bad?) taste, even if it did leave behind rips through time and space like a dog might leave behind tracks after rolling in mud.
The entire re-weaving had chop that much off of their personal timeline – only a few hours of Meta-Time.
These two were one of countless many insignificant events that were altered and changed.
Sometimes a change would spawn longer and shorter timelines. Mostly they spawned shorter ones, as everyone and everything died all around him.
The Doctor of War was in all eight of his regenerations at once, now, and more than that; in the many different and divergent timelines where and when a regeneration went differently, or he (or sometimes she, now) ran through them quicker and got to nine, ten, eleven, twelve – all the way up until thirteen, and when that one ran out sometimes The High Council gave him more. It was mad, being so many people at the same time, but it was better than being dead, because he was that, too; in increasingly many different and diverse timelines where and when he didn't survive to reach this point at all. Oh, he knew exactly why The Gods from Multiple Pantheons could no longer stand this War, for some of them were existing in so many states at once which might have been their default such as War and Peace, but when all of those states were of only War and of only Death, such existence turned Heaven into Hell.
One of the many gatherings of The Temporal Powers Alliance (TPA) throughout the past, present, and future has now been under way as The War reaches uncertainty.
"Order! We shall have Order!" The presiding adviser and judge made haste to quiet the outraged cry among The Senate with his staff.
Many among The Senate are in outrage as a response to The Axis having laid waste to territories belonging to many of their members.
Many Multiverse Clusters have continued to be dragged in to The Time War one way or another.
"Space-Time is unravelling," Lady Featherine Augustus Aurora commented snidely just as The Senate of The Temporal Powers Alliance (TPA) in one of their infinite pasts, presents, and futures were having their countless debates. In this one, she was sipping tea for the first and last time in (this) history.
"Thank you for the reminder my Lady for we haven't noticed," The Doctor snapped sarcastically, adding more sugar to his tea. (It ended up too sweet, while in another reality he took a sip and was dismayed to find it plain.)
The Witch of Miracles, Lady Frederica Bernkastel, giggled delightfully at the rather sarcastic remark.
The Majestic Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating attempted a slight haughty smile, but it collapsed before it ever had a real chance to form as her face turns to utter divine seriousness.
"But can't you feel the true scope of it, My Lord Doctor? Every Subset of The Sea of Fragments are folding and unfolding among themselves inwardly and outwardly. No Meta-Verse has escaped it."
"I'm not an idiot! Aurora! I'm well aware of what's going on out there!"
It wasn't like he could ignore it, not with his consciousness spread across alternate realities as it currently was. Time Lords were reality-aware as it was in their nature and it was driving him and the other renegade meddlers mad. It was driving everyone mad.
"This is madness," said Lady Tsunami, One of The Choushin, speaking so softly that her mouth barely moved. "This War has caused so much Pain and Suffering that has stretch everywhere and everywhen, if this madness continues on, it will be Eternal." The horror that coated her words was so thick that her sister, Lady Washu Hakubi went towards her with concern as she turns to comfort her fellow Choushin while her other Sister, Lady Tokimi, and The Doctor looked at her as well with sympathetic and empathetic concern – at her, a being beyond Space-Time itself.

The Doctor then turns towards his second in command of The 501st that was right beside him along with two clone troopers of The 501st.
He wore The Phase II ARC Trooper Armor, with blue markings, with The Mandalorian Symbol of Honor, The Jaig Eyes, that were inscribed and sported on his helmet.
"Rex, prepare the men, we are to assist Chronoa in containing this situation."
"Yes sir," The Commander of The 501st nodded resolutely with a battle ready hardened expression that was on his stern face.
