Alice was getting her outfit ready for school when Jasper stopped by. He was a bit lost as to why Alice's emotions were at a fever pitch ever since finally meeting Bella, her emotions have been that way. Jasper, having been with Alice for a while, was concerned and wanted to make sure she was okay.
"You've never been long to get ready Alice." Jasper commented.
Alice chuckled and shook her head.
"Just want to look my best. I do have plans to sit with Bella with lunch one on one just so I get to know her. You have to admit it was strange of Edward to keep her away from us ever since he revealed himself to her." Alice commented.
"True, but he must have good intentions though. Never seen him so hyper focused on a girl before, let alone a human one. Though it does seem you have a similar hyper focus with her."
Alice brushed him off as she got on a navy little peacoat.
"Well, I care about her and hope Edward doesn't do anything stupid. I never want us apart."
Never want us apart Jasper thought? Those words were similar words Alice had told him when they met at the diner for the first time. They went to the Cullens after the meet to join their coven and to be connected. Jasper had changed his diet for Alice and loved being with her, yet it seems to him that Alice was unaware of just how close she may want to be to Bella.
"Like you don't want us apart right darling?" Jasper asked.
Alice had sense that something was wrong and asked,
"Uh yes I don't. You feeling okay Jas? You've been rather bothered lately."
"I could be asking the same about you Alice. I'm just concerned since... you've never been so... fever pitched with emotions. Even when we settled down together you didn't seem to have such energy." Jasper questioned.
Alice wasn't seeing what Jasper was seeing and Jasper raised an eyebrow.
"What kind of future do you see with Bella? You've only told me that she'll be your best friend. Is that all you, see?" he asked.
Alice crossed her arms in defense since she got the sense Jasper wanted to rein in her friendship with Bella. She was a human yes, but she was a special human. There was a spark of life when they were together and there was genuine happiness versus when she was with that false bimbo Jessica. The fact Bella was stepping out of her comfort zone and trying things with her made Alice happy.
"Jasper, you're being silly. Of course, I see her as a best friend. What else would I see?"
"Well...I had to quell a bit of emotions with you two when we met Saturday. What I felt between you two was more akin to lovers rather than friends."
Alice rolled her eyes at Jasper and went to him, grabbing his hand gently.
"You know that sounds absurd right? I see Bella like another sister. One she will be once Edward turns her and they commit themselves to each other."
"Do you see that future? You've always told me visions change?" Jasper asked.
Alice sighed and humored him. She closed her eyes and to her surprise, she couldn't see that future anyone. More like, it wasn't as clear. There was a dark cloud over that future and choices that were once made were now being undone. What was going on Alice thought? She looked to Jasper and asked,
"Have you decided to stop meddling in my emotions unless I ask?"
"Well yes. If you're being honest with me and that you love me, I shouldn't have to be so protective like Edward is. I for one know you will come to me if things do change."
What could possibly change Alice's thought? But she nodded and kissed Jasper on the cheek before they headed out with Rose, Emmett, and Edward. Classes were trivial for Alice and she was more interested when lunch came around. She was trying to see the future of Edward and Bella together, but it was very fuzzy. Decisions were being changed but she didn't know what they were. Alice hoped it was just a temporary thing since anything that affected her friendship with Bella would crush her.
Alice and the rest of the Cullens sat at their usual table in the lunchroom. Rose looked to Alice and raised an eyebrow as Alice scanned the lunch room.
"Looking for someone Alice?" Rose asked.
Jasper chuckled and reply,
"She's looking for Bella. Planning a lunch date, are we?"
Edward raised an eyebrow at Alice and asked,
"Going on a bit strong, aren't we?"
I'm not going on strong. You've seen how Bella is sometimes with her friends. It's like she's putting on a mask and not being her true self. You must have noticed that, have you! Alice thought.
Edward seemed a bit bothered by Alice's thoughts and looked to Jasper.
"I'm not tempering her emotions anymore Edward. I trust her like you should trust Bella."
Edward forced a smile and looked at Alice with soft eyes. She sighed as Alice played with a straw in her soda.
"You've had her to yourself for months. It's my turn to spend time with my bestie." Alice commented.
"And what does that make me Alice?" Rose asked.
Alice smiled and replied,
"A dear sister."
Emmett chuckled since Rosalie was getting flustered and jealous. She now had to share her sister with Bella, someone who was making a huge mistake dating Edward. Bella's decision to date Edward despite what he was, Rose thought would put their family at risk. Rosalie may not have wanted this life as a vampire, but she loved Emmett and her family and didn't want to lose them.
"Come on babe, let Alice have her fun with Bella. You know how hard it can be to blend in and yet be outsiders. Now Alice can have a friend and maybe you'll see Bella as one as well." Emmett defended.
"She's no friend of mine." Rosalie murmured.
Alice finally notices Bella walking in with a food tray and goes to her. Edward stares intensely at the two of them, but Jasper tries to calm him down. Edward growls at Jasper and backs off. He stares at Alice and Bella and can only hear joyful thoughts in Alice's mind.
"Hey Bella."
She smiles softly at Alice and looks at her outfit. The peacoat complimented Alice well and wished she would have gotten one on their shopping trip from the day prior.
"Hi Alice. Having a good day so far?"
"It will be if we had lunch together...well more like you eat and us talking. That's okay with you?"
Bella looked at her small group of friends at the table but didn't feel like sitting with them today. From Jessica going off about the Cullens again, Mike still asking her to prom despite Edward and her being a thing, and Eric and Angela being so into each other worse than she and Edward were; Bella couldn't think of any other friend to hang out with but her.
"Sounds amazing actually yea. Maybe we can have it outside? It's nice out but not sunny. Then again if it were sunny, you would be on a 'hiking trip' and not be here. Kind of like cloudy days now since it means seeing you and Edward." Bella rambled.
Alice found Bella's rambling cute and she was slowly coming into her own. Alice and Bella went outside and found a table to sit at. Bella had her lunch and got to talking about each other. Alice learned from Bella why she moved to Forks, some of her hobbies, and how her life was back in Phoenix. When Alice learned she really didn't have any friends in her hometown, it made Alice frown a bit.
"I can't believe you were close to anyone, Bells. From our little shopping trip, you were such a delight. People in Phoenix must be blinded by the hot sun."
Bella laughed at the statement. I guess she didn't have a friend back then to help her come out of the shell she encased herself in. Alice was doing a good job in doing so but at a slow pace. Funny, Edward had told her that Alice would go overboard and maybe scare her off. Bella couldn't imagine why Edward didn't want her and Alice to meet, especially since it seemed they were kindred spirits.
"Maybe, at least I always wore a good pair of sunglasses." Bella joked.
Alice laughed and her laughter was like a song to Bella's ears. Edward always seemed very uptight even with his laughter. Alice on the other hand seemed to soak up life and all the fun it could have. Bella understood that none of them were biologically related, but it almost seemed they were separate people who lived together.
"I bet you look stunning with some good shades. It's a good thing Edward can't see the sexy red dress you bought otherwise he would have a spell." Alice smirked.
"Yes, well don't think about it and he won't." Bella smirked back.
"Aw don't want to be naughty with Edward yet? Fair enough, I will respect you and keep that dress out of my head."
The conversation shifted to learning about Alice; how she met Jasper and her time with the Cullens. Bella smiled when Alice told her that she had a vision of her being close to a human way before Edward and her locked eyes.
"What made you see that?" Bella asked.
"Probably Edward eventually decided to settle down and find a mate. Although it's not as natural as it could be oddly."
Bella didn't want to press it since she did care about Edward and that thought somewhat upset her. It was then Bella remembered that Alice had a sister and asked,
"Have you ever looked into your sister to see if she had a family?"
"Even if she did, what would I tell them without exposing myself as a vampire? It would be hard to be with a family I couldn't fully be with. Plus, I did look into Cynthia and papers reported that she was assaulted in 1931 based on the shredded clothes at the scene. Police ruled it a murder but they never found the body." Alice told Bella.
Bella bit her lip since she had put a damper on their mood.
"Oh god I'm so sorry Alice."
"How could you have known? It's fine Bella. Though the strange thing is, I do think maybe she survived and that maybe she did have a life. Maybe under a new name and perhaps started over."
"You think she may...you know, be a vampire too?" Bella whispered.
This intrigued Alice and she asked,
"You know...that thought never crossed my mind. I guess maybe it's because I lost all memories of my sister, minus the fact I had one, that I can't see her decisions like everyone else. I don't want to give my hopes up though."
Made sense Bella thought and she grabbed Alice's hand in hers. The coolness of Alice's hand and Bella's warmth truly felt amazing for them both. Bella smiled with her eyes and commented,
"It's better to have some hope then to live in despair. Hope you never have to feel that again Alice."
Alice liked the sentiment and lingered on Bella's hand in hers. It felt complete, whole, but Alice knew it was because she found her best friend. She glanced at Bella's lunch tray and it was half eaten. Alice chuckled and motioned the tray.
"Eat up Bella, lunch is almost over."
Bella looked at the time and cursed,
"Shit, you're right Alice."
Alice chuckled and shook her head.
"Wow you cursed in front of me? How bold you're becoming Ms. Swan." Alice teased.
"Like you never cursed before Alice? I would find that hard to believe." Bella smirked.
"Oh I have, but it's good we don't have to be so pure with words."
Bella finished her lunch and the bell rang. Alice took it upon herself to walk Bella to the next class.
"You know, this Saturday there's going to be a storm coming. There's a clearing that it won't hint and we're going to play baseball? Want to come and watch?" Alice asked.
"Vampires like baseball?" she asked in a low voice.
"It's a pastime yes, but I would love for you to watch. Maybe I can even teach you how to pitch before we all get into it."
Bella wasn't a sporty gal, but she was open to new things. Plus Edward would be there and he probably would have asked her to come watch anyway.
"Does everyone have a uniform?" Bella mused.
"Mostly yes, designed by me. Why are you imagining Edward in uniform?" Alice teased.
Bella at first did imagine Edward in a baseball uniform, but also she imagined what Alice would look like. Well fitted uniform, a little baseball cap, and some nice cleats; a far cry from her runway looks but she would probably kill it all the same. Alice noticed the slight interest on Bella's face and giggled.
"I won't tell Edward that you were daydreaming about him, though it might just make his ego swell. So is that a yes Bella?"
"It is Alice and I will hold you to teach me a thing or two about pitching. Got to learn some skills in case I play with you all someday."
"But of course Bella. Have fun in class. I'll call you later." Alice spoke softly.
Bella could get used to having someone close to and to confide in. She had been lonely most of her life, and Alice was a breath of fresh air. They were drawn to each other just as she and Edward were. It was enough to make Bella feel alive even in the boorish hell that was high school at this very moment. Least she had something fun this weekend to look forward to.
Meanwhile-Phoenix, Arizona-Evening
Dancing like no one was watching, this rather vivacious dark brunette, pale skin, and dark goldish black eyes caught the eyes of many and they were drawn to her. Though she was a goddess to every human man and sometimes women, she didn't want any of them to tie her down. Phoenix was a temporary place until she discovered where she needed to be. Up until now she lived in several places across the world since staying for too long with her immortal life would be unwise. She soon realized that she was a show for particular someone and locked eyes on a red eye man with black hair and a model's build. She was surprised it took him so long to find her again but alas she went to a booth so they could catch up. He flashed a pearly white grin as he sat beside her.
"You were hard to find this time. I never thought you would be here. Why Phoenix?" he asked.
The woman shrugged.
"I had flashes that this will be a place of importance. Don't know why but I've learned not to ignore my slight foresight."
She looked over the drinks, causing him to chuckle in delight. The man found it amusing that she pretended to be human at times with drinks and food. It was a tease she did for herself.
"You're not going to get a buzz so why bother?" he asked.
The woman rolled her eyes and retorted,
"The aroma is pleasant enough even if I can't enjoy the intoxicating effects. Why are you here Julian? I thought my hints were clear."
Julian sighed and took her hand in his. She was still bitter about something he didn't even do. His vampire father figure of sorts knew she was a target and to spare her death, he gave her life. Sure, this took away her humanity, but he had hoped they would spend their immortal lives together.
"Look I know you're still bitter about our creator turning you, but he had no choice. He didn't want you to become prey to a tracker, the very same tracker that went after your sister. Least you can honor him in a way and continue to get to know me again Cynthia."
Cynthia sighed and removed her hand from his grip. This immortal life suited her but that meant never being with her sister. She always found her sister's death at the asylum suspect and she was on a good trail before Julian's father figure and her creator, Hamish, assaulted and turned her into a vampire to save her. His act had consequences since he was killed by the very tracker, he saved her from. Julian had to teach her about being a vampire and, while grateful to some extent, she didn't want to settle with him.
"Maybe he took me away from her. She might have died in the asylum and my soul can no longer reach her. Plus, he wanted to build his own coven and have us be together. Quite frankly, I don't see us being brother and sister, let alone mates." She sneered.
Julian genuinely cared for Cynthia, but she was so dead set against him. He wanted her to be at his side and have an existence together. They lived on and off but she wouldn't commit to him and he didn't want to change his vampire life with sub-par blood.
"Look Cynthia, I care about you. Which is why I thought you would like to know that I've been trying to help you."
Cynthia's eyes furrowed at him since he was a nomad, how could he have been helpful if he doesn't stay in place for long periods. Another reason why they weren't compatible. With her life, she wanted to make a difference and she could with her immortal life even in small decade or so stretches with new identities and career paths.
"Don't think that I don't believe you, but since when have you stayed in one place long enough to gather information?" she asked.
Julian sighed and expressed,
"I do stay longer than a few days Cynthia. If you recall, we have spent some years on and off together over the decades. You just like to pretend you're still human and you take a decade or two in your new lives, which is much for me if I need to keep a low profile with my diet. Anyway, you might want to know there is a coven that acts like you. Vegetarians of the sort and one of them bore a striking resemblance to you, albeit she was a short little thing with a pixie cut."
If Cynthia had a heart, it would be excited at the news but Julian could be just be using this as a ploy for sex. He's tried it before in their decades of cat and mouse.
"I want proof this time Jules. You don't understand how losing my sister meant to me. I was nine when I lost her and its' still one of my saddest memories."
Julian nodded and he slid a small little file from his jacket pocket. There wasn't much, but he did have records with different Alice's graduating from different high schools and colleges. There was even a photo or two he took in which made Cynthia's eyes softened. Her eyes were gold like her, but she did look like her and the pixie haircut could be explained with the treatments at the asylum. There was no question, this was indeed her lost sister.
"Alice." She murmured as she stroked the photos with her long fingers.
Julian smiled softly as he noticed Cynthia taking in the photos of her sister.
"Trying to channel your visions and see why you were called for Phoenix temporarily. This did break your mold since you normally go for cold and cloudy normally."
Cynthia sighed.
"You know that's not my main power and if I were, I can't really use them to their fullest until we meet again. My visions are connected to the people I know well and form relations with and it's been a lifetime since I've been with my sister. Though I can't understand why my visions fail when I try seeing your movements. We've known each other on and off for decades much to my disdain."
Julian smirked and commented,
"Maybe we are mates and you can't invade or meddle in my future."
Cynthia rolled her eyes but did manage to chuckle.
"You can never break me away from you Cynthia, you amaze me and it's not because your transformation was special. A blue moon vampire turning is rare and it blesses you with a primary and secondary gift. But your spirit, your charms, they sing to me as much as the blood that touches my lips."
Cynthia sighed and shook her head. Her primary gift she thought worked in severing her bond from him and his bond from her yet he was back again and again. It was a useful ability when she served as a therapist in one of her lives, to help free the chains from people and their abusers. Julian never abused her, but in fact she didn't like his persistence.
Still, she had to give Julian credit, there had to be more than him then the wild and perverted vampire. After all, when Hamish was killed, Julian was the one to help her acclimate to vampire living. The only difference was that she rarely fed on humans, instead choosing to feed on animals. It seemed from her sister's eyes she did the same, making her proud and smiling. Julian looked at the photos and cracked a slight smile.
"You think she will want to form a coven with you?"
"Not sure she will leave hers unless something life changing happens. My sister must still have her visions, I'm sure of it. I wonder if she will see me coming in her life as a blessing or a curse."
Julian chuckled and Cynthia punched his arm. Always with the filthy word play.
"You really are a disgusting pervert, Julian."
"I'm sorry, but who wanted to rip my pants off when they were a naughty newborn vampire again? You always wanted action back then Cynthia." He grinned.
She just rolled her eyes.
"Blame the heightened arousal in that state and you know it. Not even sure what we did was consensual." Cynthia argued.
"I did ask and you didn't say no. In fact, you were begging and screaming yes." He playfully teased.
"And once my sex drive died down, I realized what we had was just pure physical. Thank you though for giving me this information Jules. This will help set a course for me in a new life, wherever I decide to settle."
Julian frowned and gazed into her eyes.
"I want you with me though. What will show you I'm serious?"
Compromises Cynthia thought.
"Try for once not going after humans. Animals can sustain us just fine. Maybe if I see your eyes shifting to gold, I might consider giving you a chance."
Julian playfully scoffed but Cynthia's glare told him she was serious. He sighed and replied,
"I can try but no promises."
"Promises should be kept if made. If you're serious, you would listen to my words and not just let them pass the ears." Cynthia expressed.
Julian looked over her body and cracked a small smirk.
"You are driving all the men crazy here and yet you call me a tease."
"There's not much to do at night here. Sunlight will expose me and now even more so I can't be exposed for who I am. Just wonder what pieces will come to Phoenix and where they will return. Their return will be where I set out next."
Julian cupped Cynthia's face with his firm hand and smiled softly.
"Can I please go with you? I hate for us to be apart."
"Like I said, try a new diet and then maybe we can talk. Unless you can help me with my sister, there's little you can do to make me change my mind about a future with you."
Cynthia slapped his hand away and left the club in a huff. She felt herself getting thirsty and knew she needed to feed soon. She never wanted to stave off hunger since she hated if her eyes went completely black. Those eyes made her feel more like the monster she was. It was then she had a small flash of a futureā¦a dance studio but two main people in her sights, the tracker who turned her and her sister. Why they were both there in a few days' time she didn't know but her life was going to change.
Author Note-Yea big change. I always thought Meyer bringing up that Alice had a niece in New Moon as an afterthought. While yes, that detail won't come to be, I thought this would be much more interesting. Having an original character somewhat tied canon sounded cool and she will be important to the plot. Anyway, if you made it this far thanks. This is a bit of a guilty pleasure so it's nice to know some people are interested.
