"Elena, come to me." A small voice echoed through the vast land filled with snow.

Elena took a few steps forward to the blinding white light emanating off of the figure. A hand reached out practically begging for her to take it.

Elena slowly reached her hand out, only to be blown back by a strong wind before she could get the chance to grab it.

"No." A voice growled.

She recognized that voice, but from where?

"She belongs to me." The voice declared.

Elena's eyes snapped open, faintly aware of her rapid breathing. She quickly got up and paced around her room.

She'd been having that same dream over and over again ever since she had come back to life, but this time it had been different.

She had never been so close to almost grabbing its hand, what had changed?

She briefly wondered if it was this town, or perhaps reuniting with Jeremy that had made her so vulnerable to its tricks.

How ironic was it that the figure in the light was the one who Helen had warned her about?

Elena dared to wonder what would happen if she took its hand.

Elena found herself hiding in the shadows watching Bonnie's every move more importantly she was watching Bonnie's surroundings.

It's not as if she didn't think Bonnie couldn't handle herself, she knew she could, but what kind of friend would she be if she didn't ensure that Bonnie was safe.

She made a deal to herself that she would stay hidden unless things got out of hand. Elena didn't want to reveal herself, but she didn't care if that's what it would take to save her best friend.

Elena watched as Bonnie and Enzo walked hand in hand, automatically sensing that Enzo knew they were being followed.

It was the movement of his eyes and the tightening grip on Bonnie that immediately gave him away.

No matter how hard his eyes searched, he would never find Elena.

Elena narrowed her eyes at the five people who kept reappearing as if it was clockwork, Bonnie and Enzo showed no signs of noticing them.

Elena gritted her teeth when 2 girls and 2 boys stopped Bonnie and Enzo.

It didn't take long for a fight to break out.

Elena frowned as she watched the fight go down, something about it was odd. The four didn't fight to kill, but it was clear that they would kill if they needed to. Then something else stood out to her, there were 5 of them, and yet only 4 were fighting.

Elena's eyes went straight down to a ring on one of the girl's fingers and gritted her teeth realizing the symbol.

This was no coincidence, it couldn't be. It was a setup and she had fallen into the trap.

Elena stayed in the shadows anticipating what was to come next, hoping that Bonnie and Enzo could beat them.

It was a foolish hope, she knew the power those witches had.

It was very clear Bonnie was struggling to keep both her and Enzo alive, while she fought the witches. They had managed to take one out when his guard was down, but they only made the other witches angry.

One witch cast a spell weakening both Enzo and Bonnie, while the other grabbed onto Enzo, preparing to rip his heart out.

The witch ignored Bonnie's cries as she plunged her hand into Enzo's chest, causing Enzo's eyes to widen. Suddenly blood sprayed out of the witch's arm well… what was left of the witch's arm.

The witch let out an ear-piercing scream as half of her arm fell to the floor. Bonnie's eyes widened at what she saw. Elena licked the blood off her own hand with a smirk on her face.

"I'm going to enjoy killing you."

The words flew out of Elena's mouth so naturally that Bonnie briefly wondered if that could be Katherine.

The witches looked at Elena with fear in their eyes, the two witches backed up while the other one was frozen in place faintly aware of her missing arm.

"El-" Bonnie started with a shaky voice.

"Shut up." Elena demanded, stopping Bonnie from saying what she was about to say.

Bonnie gulped as Enzo sped to her and quickly wrapped his arms around her protectively.

"Are you going to come out, or do I have to torture your little minions one by one." Elena called out.

"No need to be so dramatic." Ace responded from afar.

"I'm surprised you set this up all by yourself, you got Leo in on your plan..." Elena commented, eyeing Bonnie and Enzo.

"Only the best for you, Mia… or should I call you by your real name?" Ace asked.

"You even went as far as to track down my friends, even after knowing what I'm capable of." Elena continued, locking her eyes at the place Ace was hiding.

Elena sped over to Ace and grabbed his neck, pushing him roughly against the wall.

"You can't do anything to me, Leo would hate you." Ace chided.

"I'm sure Leo would understand." Elena said dismissively, tightening her grip on his neck.

"You think he would? You're so blind towards him, it's hilarious." Ace exclaimed.

"What does that mean." Elena growled.

"If you let me go, I'll tell you." Ace choked out.

Elena stubbornly let go of his neck. Ace coughed as he regained his composure.

"I don't wish to get my brother killed, I'm sure you understand that, Elena." Ace said before speeding off.

Elena lets him go, she had other things to worry about. She sighed as she turned to a shocked Bonnie.

"How are you-" Bonnie started only to be interrupted again.

"We have to get out of here… I'll explain later." Elena informed looking at Bonnie before she sped off, Enzo followed Elena with Bonnie in his arms.

"I don't get it, why run when you have us?" Bonnie finally asked after Elena had explained everything.

"It was the right thing to do." Elena answered vaguely.

"What do you mean the right thing to do? We could have helped you." Bonnie argued.

"You would've helped me?" Elena scoffed.

"Yes, we would have" Bonnie assured.

"You all would die in the process, I can't risk that happening." Elena growled.

"What are you talking about?" Bonnie asked, completely clueless.

Elena bit her lip, she hadn't meant to say that. No going back now.

"Helen said something… before I came back. A sort of warning of what's to come." Elena informs.

"A warning?" Bonnie asked.

"She told me that something… or rather, someone is after me. If they succeed the whole world would be destroyed and everyone I ever loved would die in the process." Elena explained, making sure to leave out what Helen had said about Klaus.

"Are you sure Helen was telling the truth?" Bonnie asked.

"No, but I would be a fool to ignore her warning." Elena reasoned.

Bonnie slowly nodded her head.

"So why are you back, it couldn't have just been to save me… And who was that guy?" Bonnie asked.

"It doesn't matter, he won't bother you again." Elena ensured.

"He was scared of you, they all were." Bonnie noted.

"I've changed." Elena said simply.

"You seemed like a completely different person." Bonnie commented.

"Did I?" Elena questioned, tilting her head to the side.

Of course, she already knew the answer.
