Chapter III
Kevin appeared out of black mist in both his and Krystal's bedroom, and ducked into the bathroom (with his gym shorts and underwear) for a shower. He came out a half-hour later, fur damp. He also never slept due to his vampirism, but wanted to be with Krystal and Micheal now that he was going to be a family man. Krystal was sitting up on their bed, in just her pink bra and undergarments. Her thick, waist-length A late-night talkshow was on tv, facing them. Kevin turned and faced her.
"Are you all right, honey?" He asked
"I was just thinking about Micheal." Krystal replied, "That poor little kid."
"I know." Kevin said as he laid down beside her, "My mother and our teammates are scouting the area for any info about his parents. Fox and I are working at the shop tomorrow."
"Ok." Krystal said, "I'm going to take Michael shopping for food and clothes tomorrow."
She paused and laid her head on her chest. Kevin wrapped his arms around her and held her.
"I think you are gonna make a great mom." He told her as he kissed her between her ears.
She looked up at him and smiled.
"You're gonna make a great dad." Krystal said to him
Kevin smirked at that statement. He had never been around children before. He closed his eyes.
Krystal closed her eyes and fell asleep in her arms.
Up on the rooftop of a nearby building, a young lone, hooded figure watched Micheal laying on his bed with his eyes closed. Her pale fur glistened in the moonlight behind her, and her crimson eyes glowed.
"Be strong, my little angel." She said to herself with a tear streaking down her left eye, referring to Micheal.
She dissipated into black mist into the clear night.
The next day, Krystal pushed a large grocery store cart loaded with bags of food out of a Shoprite grocery store in downtown Corneria City, with little Micheal sitting in the cart. While Kevin was at work at the bookshop, both of them had spent the day getting food, clothes and toys for Micheal to have from a local Magic Mart discount store. Since they were now being foster parents, they both felt now was the time to start acting like them. Krystal had to to be careful because this part of town was taken by a group of rouge vampires who started getting together and terrorizing after Recon was destroyed four years ago. Luckily, she was armed with her weapons in case anyone would even tried to approach and attack the both of them.
"Where's Mr. Kevin?" Micheal asked as they approached Krystal's car and opened up the trunk
"He's at work right now, sweetheart." Krystal replied as she loaded the new booster seat she bought into the backseat and buckled him into it, then placed the bags into the trunk. "You'll see him again."
She placed the rest of the bags into the trunk, then got into the drivers seat.
"That's the last of them." Fox said to Kevin as he placed a few books on a top shelf at the bookshop
He stepped off the latter and glanced at Kevin, who was busy ringing up the total for a customer. Since Recon's death, Kevin helped him get a job by letting him work at the bookshop in addition to hunting evil vampires. Not to mention, he knew Fara and Fox became parents a year after Recon's destruction when Fara gave birth to a little boy.
"When can we continue looking for info about Micheal's parents?" Fox asked
"We can resume later tonight." Kevin replied as he closed up the cash register, "Did Wolf fill you in about Micheal yet?"
"Yea, last night." Fox replied, "I still wanna have a look at him to find out what he looks like before I want to start."
"All right." Kevin said, "My mother wants everyone else to do the same thing. You're a dad. What's it like being a dad?"
Fox stopped dusting and turned his attention to Kevin.
"Let me put it this way, my friend." Fox said, "It's hard being a dad. Lots and lots of hard work. But you and Krystal are going to do well with this kid."
Kevin nodded in agreement. Over the past couple of years, he and Krystal had been babysitting Falco and Katt's adopted brown collie son they named James Lombardi. They became very close to him.
The bell rang and both Krystal and Micheal entered the bookshop.
"Hi, guys." Krystal greeted the two of them.
She exchanged hugs with the two of them, then Micheal exchanged hugs with Kevin.
"And this little guys must be Micheal." Fox said to Krystal as he teased him by ruffling his hair.
"Yes he is." Krystal replied "I'm here to pickup the kids books Kevin has."
"I've got them right here." Kevin said as he ducked behind the counter and grabbed a bag of children's books he bought earlier this morning and handed them to her. "We have a meeting tonight in the crypt. I want Micheal to come along as well to meet the others as well."
"I agree." Fox said.
"Me too." Krystal added "If Micheal is gonna be part of our family, he has to know about the undead world he is part of."
"He won't be alone." Fox said, "He has you guys. Kevin, I'll lock up. William should be here soon."
"All right. See you later." Kevin replied, turning his attention to both Micheal and Krystal "Come on, guys."
The three of them left to prepare for the meeting later tonight.
