The ponies and Batman exchanged introductions. As Batman explained his predicament, Twilight Sparkle's mind ran through the possibilities. "Interdimensional travel? By Celestia!"

"Does this world have much in the way of science? I was hoping to get back to my home soon. There's a villain on the loose, and I can't stay long."

"Not much science, Batman," Twilight replied "But you'll find we're plentiful in the way of magic."

Magic as a real tangible force was not something Batman had to confront often, if at all. The only real encounters he had with it were a brief cooperation with the magician Zatanna Zatara. But even that had scientific explanations, he just had to find them. "Then what about magic for interdimensional travel? That's what the equipment which sent me here had in mind."

"Scholars have been studying magic for hundreds of years. There's bound to be something!" Twilight said gleefully. She had been waiting for an excuse to refresh her learning from the Dimensional Space-Time elective at Celestia's school, and here it was. "Girls, to the library!" She began to trot out the room and up the spiral staircase to the castle's library. Batman followed suit, astounded by the crystalline walls which surrounded him.

"Incredible facility you have here. What's it made of?" Batman stopped every so often to conduct a scan of the walls and floor. There was literally nothing like it on Earth.

"Oh well we're not actually sure. It sprouted out from the ground. Being magic and all." Twilight tried to sound nonchalant, and in fact she did, but she knew it was quite unfamiliar to their new visitor.

"Did you all have a part in that magic?"

"Sure did!" Applejack replied happily.

"Here we are!" Twilight announced a few moments later, opening the doors to the castle library. The room was lined wall-to-wall with books, and most were covering subjects Batman had never heard of. Psychic herbology, combat psionics, post-necrology, alicornological studies, and more. Wading through the sea of secret subjects, Batman went looking for an atlas and a world history, while Twilight and the gang went to look for a way to send Batman back.

It was a while before anything happened. In the meantime, some of the ponies took the chance to socialize with Batman. It was not everyday that a visitor from another dimension came to visit them.

"So, Batman," Inquired Fluttershy, the animal lover of the group. "What inspired you to dress as a bat of all animals? There are plenty of other, scarier ones."

"I was afraid of bats as a child. And when I was trying to think of how to fight the crime in my city, a bat flew into my room from the window. I figured that criminals would fear me as a bat, and they do."

"If I was a crimefighter," Butted in Rainbow "I wouldn't use any animal nonsense. I'd use my speed! Evil would never see me coming. And I would call myself 'the Streak.'"

"Oh that ain't a good name at all." Added Applejack, having overheard the conversation from afar. "How about 'the Flash'? Just rolls off the tongue better."

"Well a hero is nothing without their costumes you know." Rarity chimed, likewise eavesdropping on them. "I suggest you all get Batman's tailor."

"If this history book is anything to go by, you're all already heroes. You don't need costumes and gadgets for that." Batman had been reading Modern Equestrian History. "And I made the suit myself. It's inspired by ninja armor, which I wore while training in the mountains."

"I love ninjas!" Screamed Pinkie Pie, slamming into the ground near Batman. "You know, I actually had a ninja themed birthday party last week. It was for this tiny foal who really liked samurai, but I had run out of samurai decorations! So we talked and I said 'Hey! I have ninja decorations! Let's use those!' and he said 'Yeah!' so we got to work and it was the BEST NINJA PARTY EVER!"

"Everypony!" Shrieked Twilight. "Please don't be so loud." And that put an end to that conversation.

Around half an hour later, a small purple dragon standing upon two legs ran into the room. "Twilight!" It called. It's voice was like an adolescent's. "Letter from Princess Celestia!"

"Thank you, Spike!" Twilight said, grabbing the rolled up parchment from the little purple dragon. Somewhat bewildered, Batman quickly snatched a nearby book called Reptology & Dragon Studies.

Scanning through the letter, Twilight's heart sank. An emergency situation had been declared in Canterlot, and the Mane Six were needed on the scene immediately. "Looks like study time's going to have to be put on hold for a second, Princess Celestia needs us in Canterlot ASAP." She declared.

"But what about Batman?" Rainbow Dash asked.

Twilight thought it over. It was never a bad thing to have an extra friend helping you, and she was sure Celestia wouldn't mind. "Batman, we may need your help in this. Think you can lend a hoof?"

Remembering his pledge to help those in need, Batman hardly gave it a though. "Of course. Let's move out!" And with that, they were on their way.
