Episode 3: Riding the Wave
The Underworld Castle was recently built around the same time of Hades' revival. Speaking of the God, Hades was watching the recent battle of Hewdraw versus Palutena's army and that new Angel, Angel Crimson in the purple flame before him. As soon as the doors to his throne room opened, he made the flame disappear as Thanatos and Pandora walked in and kneeled before their lord.
"How could you be so WEAK?" He snapped at him firmly. "You let a little rookie Angel take you down just like that, Thanatos!"
Thanatos flinched in fear at Hades' sudden yell.
"For-Forgive me, Lord Hades!" He said in fear as he bowed his head in shame. "She simply caught me off guard! It won't happen again!"
Hades thought for a moment before he thought of an idea. "Pandora." He said.
"Yes, my lord?" The Goddess spoke up and sauntered towards him with a small little giggle.
"This...Angel Crimson doesn't seem like a big deal. However, I prefer to nip the problem while it's still a bud." Hades said.
"At once, Lord Hades!" Pandora said. "I'll destroy this girl the minute I lay my eyes on her." She stated.
"No." Hades suddenly said. "Do not destroy her. I want you to bring her here to the castle, alive."
"How come, my Lord?" Pandora disliked this approach - bringing them back alive wasn't the way she'd go about it.
Hades snickered, "I want to see if we can get her on our side." He laughed a little.
"Aren't teenage girls rather stubborn?" She smirked a little, amused at this
"Yes, but that'll make it quite the challenge and more fun." Hades mused. "Do what you have to do to get her and Pitty to come out from their castle in the sky, but make sure you bring her back."
"Fine, I will. But, Lord Hades, do know that I expect a reward in return."
As Amazon Pandora sauntered away, Thanatos was left growling.
"Pandora...don't overestimate yourself." He muttered.
Back at Palutena's temple, Angie had finished making dinner for everyone. Akria, Palutena, Pit, and Eva sat at the table as Angie and some centurions served the food.
"Angie! This looks so good!" Pit cheered at the plates of delicious looking soups and entrees in front of him. "You made all of this?" He asked.
"I did." She giggled, blushing a bit. "I've been cooking since I was young." She pulled up a chair, sitting next to Pit and wiping her forehead.
"Whew...that was a handful."
Eva snickered a little bit at the interaction, and Akira looked at her curiously while whispering. "What?"
"Can't you see it?" Eva whispered back.
Akria shook her head, not getting what Eva meant at all.
"Look veeery closely."
Akira gazed at their little exchange, seeing them laughing and enjoying their time together.
"Once again, see what...oooooh..."
Akira couldn't help the grin that came on her face. Akria and Eva giggled together before Akria looked to her right to see the seat next to her empty.
"...Leslie..." Akria sighed.
Eva placed a hand on her shoulder. "Have you fought before?"
"W-Well, sometimes, but...never like this." She sighed and closed her eyes sadly.
"Akria...Ang and I fight all the time." She smiled. Akira looked surprised.
"Huh...? B-But you two are so close! How can that be?"
Eva looked at Akria, a bit shocked. "Wait—you NEVER saw us fight?" She asked. "I mean, we never do it at school because we don't want to cause a scene, but haven't you always noticed the glances we give each other when we're fighting?"
Akria shook her head. "No...I thought you guys were playing some kind of sibling game." She answered.
"Well, when we fight, it usually gets bad. Especially when we get home." Eva says with sweat drops and a sheepish chuckle. "We don't get on each other's nerves a WHOLE lot, but when we do, it usually ends with screaming, yelling, door slamming, the usual…" She giggled. "Yet, somehow at the end of the day, she still tucks me into bed at night..."
"Wow. I didn't know." Akria said.
"It was the same for me." Palutena chimed into the conversation. "My twin sister and I always got into those kinds of fights when we're younger and before we became goddesses." She admitted.
"You have a sister, Palutena?" Akria asked to which Palutena nodded.
"What's her name? What is she the goddess of?" Eva asked eagerly.
Palutena looked away for a moment before sighing. "…It's a long story." She admitted before she stood up from her seat at the table. "I'll go find Leslie. You all start eating." And with that said, Palutena took her leave. This left Akria and the other confused.
"Wonder if Lady Palutena's OK..." Pit said with his mouth full of food.
Ang only stirred her tea. "That reminds me - Eva, I'm still not over the time you burned the breadbox."
"You did what?!" Akria looked at her in shock while Eva started eating.
"I was only trying to make you a birthday lunch."
"Mhmmm."
Akria just gave Eva a look as she said, "How...?"
Leslie was wandering the temple halls. She was thinking...what could she do now? She was so mad and frustrated at Akria! And yet, Leslie was also scared for her best friend.
"How can she NOT be afraid of all this?" Leslie asked out loud.
9 years ago in the girls' world…
"Alright, Leslie. Mama's starting her new job today. I need you to be good at kindergarten while I'm working, OK?"
"Okay, mama!" Leslie said happily.
Leslie's mother kissed her daughter's forehead and smiled, "That's my girl!"
…
"Hey everyone! Look at the new girl's hair!" One kindergarten kid pointed out. "She looks so weird!"
"It's too yellow." Another spoke up.
"Yea—almost like pee."
"You think she's a bimbo?"
"What's that?"
"My daddy said that to some lady once who had the same colored hair. I think it's a dumb person."
"So she's dumb?"
"Probably. She didn't know the alphabet like we did!" That's when all the kids started chanting and singing, calling Leslie a "bimbo". Unfortunately, the teacher was away for the moment and left the room unsupervised. Leslie was about to break down in tears if this kept up.
"Hold it right there!" All the kindergarteners stopped chanting and looked up to the front of the room. Leslie looked up too and saw little Akria standing here with her hands on her hips. "She's new here! That doesn't give us any right to be mean! We haven't learned her name properly yet! If you wanna be mean, then be mean to someone who deserves it!" That little speech Akria gave shut all the kids up as she marched up to Leslie.
Akria smiled and held out her hand to Leslie. "My name's Akria! Akria Smith-Dallas! What's yours?" She asked.
Leslie hesitated but a light shined in her eyes as she reached out and shook hands with Akria. "…I'm Leslie Venmonth."
Leslie punched the wall, sniffling.
"S-She's...the only one who really cared then...who didn't shut me out!" She sobbed against the wall. "W-Why did she think…p-possibly dying was a good idea?!"
Leslie cried as she remembered all the other times that Akria had stood up for her. Another time in kindergarten, in elementary school, and in junior high. Junior high, she got almost badly beat up by some other female students who were jealous of Leslie. Luckily, a teacher hurried to the scene before Akria got seriously hurt. The worst she got was just scratches on her cheek from one of the girl's nails.
Leslie started to think of how she never repaid Akria for all the times she defended her.
"Why...can't I be the one to protect HER? Just once..." Leslie quietly asked. She then felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and she turned around to see Palutena. The Goddess looked at the girl with concern in her eyes.
"Are you alright, Leslie?" Palutena asked.
Leslie looked at the goddess before sniffling. "L-Lady Palutena..."
She wiped her face before sniffling.
"I-I'm fine...I'm sorry..." She said.
"We're serving dinner now. Would you like to eat with us, or do you want me to send a centurion to bring some to your bedroom?" Palutena asked.
"I-I'm not sure..." Leslie admitted as she sat down. "I'm not sure if Akria would like to see me right now..."
Palutena smiled and hugged Leslie. The sudden act stunned Leslie before the teenager looked up at Palutena.
"She's worried about you." Palutena told her.
"…Of course she is." Leslie sighed. Why wasn't she surprised? Of course Akria was worried...she always looks out for her. No matter what happens.
"You know...I was the exact same way with my twin sister. I always looked out for her. Even when she got annoyed and told me not too." Palutena said with a light chuckle.
"You have a twin sister?" She asked, looking at her surprisedly.
"I do...but that is a story for another day." She sighed in somewhat sadness. "Leslie, what troubles your soul right now?"
"I..."
Leslie looked down at her feet.
"...Akria has ALWAYS been the one to protect me. Always...no matter what I've done before, or how mad I am at her, she's always ready to defend me. Always ready to...sacrifice herself..."
"And is that bad?" Palutena asked.
"Well...no. I mean, it's not bad when the circumstances aren't life-threatening!" Leslie said. "I just don't want her to get badly hurt because of me!" She explained.
"I wouldn't say the reason is because of you explicitly." Palutena laughed a little bit. "Rather, I believe Akria has had this heroic sense to begin with. She wants to step forward and protect those dear to her - everyone. And that includes you, Leslie. She loves you too much to let anything happen to you, or Eva, or Ang."
Leslie looked at Palutena and laughed a little as well.
"Sometimes I wish I had that heroic sense too." Leslie said, scratching the back of her head.
"Why don't you get some rest?" Palutena suggested. "I'll have a centurion bring you some food."
"Thank you, Lady Palutena." Leslie smiled. She bowed and took her leave back to her bedroom.
After dinner and a centurion took a plate to Leslie in the bedroom that the girls shared, Angie and Eva were doing dishes as Pit and Akria went to work on using club weapons before they turned in for the night.
Eva whistled as she cleaned a few plates, placing them in the cabinet. "Just whistle while you work~"
"You really love Snow White, don't you?" Angie rolled her eyes, but she smiled anyway.
"Heck yeah." Eva simply replied. Angie rolled her eyes and laughed a little as she put some of the plates she cleaned away.
"Hey sis...Do you...think we'll be able to get home?" Eva suddenly asked.
"Home?" Angie thought about it for a while. "Well...I think once we're done with helping everyone out, we can..."
Eva noticed a sadness in her tone, and she spoke up.
"...Sis, is everything alright?"
"…Now that you say it...We don't know how we got here, do we?" Angie asked out loud.
"Of course we do! That vortex sucked us all up and we landed here!" Eva answered.
"But where did that vortex come from?!" Angie asked a bit loudly.
"That's..." Eva thought about it before placing a cup in the cabinet. "...I don't know. That's a really good question."
Angie and Eva were silent as they put away the rest of the dishes.
"...We'll find a way. After all, if Akria can transform into a superhero, I'm certain we can get home!" Eva said, positively.
"If you say so." Angie said with a wistful expression.
Eva looked at her sister before smiling a little. "...is there someone you'll miss?"
Angie looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What do you mean...?"
"You know who I mean!" Eva smirked before giggling.
"Evangeline, what are you talking about?"
"I saw those looks you were giving you-know-who aka the only guy amongst us during dinner~."
Angie was confused before thinking a little bit about what Eva was saying before realizing...
Angie's face turned bright red as she shook her head and glared at Eva.
"No. There's nothing between me and Pit, Eva." Angie said.
"I saw it! You can't deny it!" She teased her as she started walking away.
"Just friends, Eva. Nothing more..." Though the more Angie denied it, the redder her face got - and the more she realized she wasn't entirely wrong.
The next day, Pit and Akria got up to go for a morning jog around Skyworld. They were going to get breakfast when they were done and got back to the temple.
"Come on, Akria!" Pit cheered as he ran. "Just a bit more and we'll be there!" He said.
"Right!" Akria said cheerfully. The two of the were running past the garden area of Skyworld when Akria stopped to see Leslie. She was up from bed too and was admiring the flowers in the garden. Akria remembered that Leslie ate and went to bed early last night before they had a chance to talk.
Akria's face became one with a determined expression as she started to call out to Leslie. "Hey! Les!" Just as Leslie turned to see Akria, Palutena started calling Pit and Akria telepathically.
"Pit! Akria! We've got trouble down on the surface world!" The goddess said.
"What's going on, Lady Palutena?" Pit asked and Akria listened in.
"It's Pandora! She's attacking a human city near Skyworld." Palutena replied.
"They must be collecting more souls for Hades." Akria guessed.
"Then let's head out!" Pit said as he hurried to grab one of his many weapons. Akria knew she had to act with Pit, but she still was going to talk to Leslie later on.
Akria took out her medallion and held it high. "Let's go! Celestial Evolution!" And she began to transform in Angel Crimson.
"Akria, wait!"
Leslie ran for her, but it was too late. Crimson was already flying towards the battle in the distance with Pit.
"Damn...I gotta go after her!"
Ang stepped outside to see Leslie looking in distress.
"Les, what's happening?!"
"Pit and Ak-I mean, Crimson went off! I think Palutena's sending them on a mission!" Leslie explained and Eva joined them.
"I say we go to Palutena and ask her if she can send us down there to help if we can!" Eva said before the three of them hurried to the main room of Palutena's temple.
In the city, Pandora enjoyed the sight of humans fleeing in fear or some other pathetically trying to fight back.
"Isn't this just a lovely day?" Pandora giggled as more Underworld baddies destroyed the city before her. "Although, if this doesn't get Pit's and the new angel's attention, I'm not sure what will."
"Pandora!" Pit called out as he landed on the ground and Crimson appeared right next to him via teleportation from Palutena.
"Ah, just what the doctor ordered!" Pandora turned around with a grin. This would be fun...
Meanwhile, the girls made it to the main room of the temple, Ang running up first.
"Lady Palutena! We have a favor to ask you!"
Palutena looked up from the Fountain that allowed her to see everything that was going on down in the human realm.
"Leslie! Angie! Eva! What's wrong?" Palutena asked.
"We need you to send us down there! We need to help Pit and Crimson!" Angie answered.
"Girls. It's far too dangerous." Palutena said.
"I don't care!" Leslie suddenly shouted. "I need to be there for her. I need to help my best friend!" She cried. Palutena saw the determination not only in Leslie's eyes, but Angie's and Eva's eyes as well.
"…Alright. But please be careful." Palutena said, receiving nods from all the girls. Palutena then used her magic and teleported them down to the city.
As this was happening, Pit and Crimson were confronting Pandora.
"Leave this city alone, Pandora!" Pit ordered the Goddess of Calamity.
"Yeah, they've done nothing to you!" Crimson added.
"You know me, Pit." She said, rather boredly before smirking. "I just like to enjoy myself every now and again. I wouldn't be the goddess of calamity if I wasn't causing any trouble, would I?"
"Agh!"
All 3 girls landed on top of each other, groaning as they tried to dust themselves off.
"My back...!"
Crimson looked back to see the three girls and they got up.
"Guys! You're here!" Crimson exclaimed.
Leslie stood up, dusting herself off. "Did you think I was going to leave you just like that?"
As Crimson smiled at her friends, Pandora saw this as an opportunity. She snapped her fingers and Underworld monsters were summoned surrounded Pit and the girls, separating them from Crimson.
"Girls, get behind me!" Pit said as he readied his weapon to fight.
Angie nodded and hid behind him, Eva chuckling as she did the same. "Ooh, Prince Charming~"
Angie sent a HARSH glare at her sister before Pit started to fight off the monsters. "Quiet."
Leslie wasn't focused on the sisters or Pit right now. She was more focused on Crimson, who was being approached by Pandora.
Crimson readied herself and Pandora floated to ground and walked towards Crimson as if she were a supermodel on a runway.
"Let them go, Pandora. They're not a threat to you!" Crimson said.
Pandora just laughed in response to what Crimson had said.
"What's so funny?" Crimson asked, a bit confused but still determined.
"You have no idea HOW much of a threat they are to me!"
She charged towards Crimson, who charged right back. They started attacking each other, while Leslie had a bad feeling about this.
Pit was almost finished with the Underworld monsters but he was having more trouble than he thought trying to do that AND protect Angie and the others.
Crimson roundhouse kicked Pandora, who simply blocked the attack with her forearm.
"Tell me! What do you mean my friends are a threat?!" Crimson said as she threw punches at Pandora.
"Foolish child!" She retaliated with kicks and punches of her own. "You have no idea what they're capable of!"
She sent a kick to her stomach at a quick moment, sending Crimson flying into Leslie's arms.
"Crimson!"
Crimson groaned in pain but was able to get back up and stand on her feet.
"I won't...I won't let you hurt them!" Crimson said as she powered herself up and started using her special attack. "Angelic Crimson Inferno!" Crimson headed straight for Pandora with that attack, but the Goddess just laughed.
"Ha! You call those flames?!" Pandora said as she sent forth a fiery tornado of her own, this one with blue fire and sent it straight at Crimson. The two flames clashed but unfortunately, Pandora's was stronger and engulfed Crimson completely. Crimson screamed in pain before the blue flames simmered down and disappeared. Crimson fell to ground on her hands and knees.
Leslie felt like her heart was breaking. "No…No…" She was about to cry as she watched Pandora walk up to Crimson and grab her by her long red hair.
"See, little child?" She snarled, lifting her up like a thin piece of paper. "You think you can play these games with THE Pandora?! Hades will be HAPPY to see you!"
"No...NO! LET HER GO!" Leslie screamed, and then a blue light started coming from her heart.
Angie's eyes widened - she had seen this before.
"That light...!"
"What?!" Pandora cried out as the light coming from Leslie was awakening Crimson.
"Leslie...?" She said softly.
"You're...You're an idiot, Akria!" Leslie said. "You make these foolish decisions that could end up getting you hurt! But...that's what makes you you...and I can't change that! But this...this time it's my turn to protect you!" After Leslie said all that, a medallion emerged from the light and it was similar to Crimson's but was blue in the middle instead of red.
"…Let's go! Celestial Evolution!" Leslie cried out as the light began to change her the same it did with Crimson when this first happened. Her blonde hair became longer, wavier than before, and blue with two pieces of hair sticking up at the top that were red instead. She wore an outfit similar to Crimson's, just as angelic, but was blue, white, and gold instead. Her eye colors also became blue to match her hair.
"Washing up from the heavenly seas, I am Angel Azure!" She declared before posing.
Eva gazed in amazement, applauding happily.
"Yay! Gooo Leslie! I mean Azure!"
"So Leslie is a warrior too...!" Angie said with a smile
"This is so awesome!" Pit exclaimed.
Pandora growled but knew she had to complete her mission of bringing Crimson back to the Underworld. She was about to teleport away when Azure had moved faster and landed a clean punch to the stomach and made her let go of Crimson.
"Not so fast, grandma!" Azure said with a teasing smirk.
Pit froze a bit after hearing Azure say that. "Uh oh..."
"...What the HELL did you just call me, little girl?!" Pandora screeched at her.
Azure grinned, twirling around. "Aw, come on grandma: you know I'm right. What are you going to do, Granny~?"
Pandora was growing furious with this girl's games. She started throwing blue fireballs around, trying to hit Azure. Crimson, recovering from Pandora's last attack, took this chance to hurry over to Pit and the others.
"Are you guys OK?" She asked. Pit was about to reply but that's when a fireball was heading their way!
"Everyone! Move!" Pit shouted as he picked up Angie, bridal style, and Crimson took Eva and they jumped out of the way.
"Stand still, you little blue haired bimbo!" Pandora screeched.
"Hmm~! Haven't heard that word in a LONG time!" Azure said as she landed on the roof of a house before glaring at Pandora. "But I'm certain the only blue haired bimbo around here...is YOU!" Circles of water appeared around Azure's wrists and she began moving her arms like she was conducting music.
"Angelic Azure Tsunami!" Azure called out before two huge geysers of water came from the water rings around her wrists and were sent straight at Pandora.
Pandora screamed as the attack made direct impact, sending her flying and hitting a building nearby.
Azure flew down and landed, striking a pose.
"And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done." She whistled.
Crimson and Pit, still holding onto Angie and Eva, cheered in victory for Azure. Crimson put Eva down and hurried over to her best friend and hugged her.
"Whoa!" Azure was a bit startled by that.
"Thank you, Le—I mean, Azure!" Crimson smiled.
Azure smiled back at her. "…I'm just glad everyone's safe."
"I'm glad you're safe!" Crimson, scratched the back of her neck. "H-Hey, Uhm. About..."
"No, no." She shook her head with a smile. "I think I'm the one who should be sorry. I sort of overreacted..."
Azure and Crimson looked at each other for a second before laughing.
"Well, it's official then." Azure said with a smile. "We're a team, Crimson. And we won't go around getting killed on each other."
Crimson nodded her head in agreement before hugging her best friend. When she let go, she gasped. "We should have a name!"
"A name?" Azure questioned.
"Yeah! Like a team name!" The red angel explained. "Like something cool and hip!"
"That sounds awesome!" Pit said as he, Eva, and Angie walked over. "What kind of name were you thinking?"
"Hmm..." Crimson began to think but couldn't think of anything good.
"How about the Cosmos Angels?" Angie suggested. Everyone looked at her as she blushed a little. "I...just thought of it on the spot, really..." She admitted.
"The Cosmos Angels...I like it!" Crimson said.
"The Cosmos Angels sounds like a great team name!" Eva squealed bouncing up and down. "I can make a Logo! Or design it. Can I be the stylist?!"
"I like the idea of having a stylist around." Azure said as she smiled at Eva.
"Alright! The Cosmos Angels it is!" Crimson cheered, punching one fist into the air. "Alright then team..." Crimson spoke to everyone when she said that, "…Let's find a way to defeat Hades and the Underworld Army to restore balance and peace to the world!" Crimson put her hand out as Azure followed putting her own hand in the middle. Pit did the same with a bright smile.
"Alright! 1...2...3…"
"Wait for us!" Eva ran forward and placed her hand in, Ang looking at them skeptically before rolling her eyes with a small smile.
"Fine, count me in." She said and placed her hand in.
"Alright then! 1…2…3!" Crimson called out as they all lifted their hands in the air. They all shouted at the same time, "Let's go! Cosmos Angels!"
Everyone was surprised they all said the same words at the same time. They all looked at each other before laughing together.
However, unknown to the group, Hades was watching the whole thing from that purple flame of his after he retracted Pandora from the battlefield. Currently, Pandora was before Hades, on her knees as she bowed to him, still soaking wet from Angel Azure's water attack.
"So, Angel Azure, hm...?"
"I did everything I could." She growled. "I ALMOST got the brat...until she showed up and ruined my plans."
Hades held his hand up to silence Pandora's rant. The goddess instantly shut her mouth and shivered in fear of what Hades might do.
Hades chuckled before laughing. "This is becoming quite the game now, isn't it?" He asked no one in particular.
"What do you suppose we do now, Lord Hades?" Thanatos asked from the corner.
Hades leaned on his hand and began to think.
"...Send for Nyx. Let's see how they handle battling against the Goddess of the Night." He answered with a smirk.
