CHAPTER 3!

She ran, the reason only to feel the fresh air in her face, running through her long, light brown curly hair. She pushed through the crowd, hair flowing behind her, like waves of melted chocolate, rippling through the air.

"What took you?" Lily asked, when she entered the library, face pink from both the cold air and running.

Rose laughed. "She's only late by a few minutes! Besides, this is the first time you're early, Lily."

Lily went pink, so her face was a lighter shade of Padme's. "I suppose. And, for a start, it's not the only time-"

"IS!" Laughed Padme and Rose in unison.

"Okay, okay." Said Lily, in a tone that suggested, 'Okay'-I-will-say-just-to-shut-you-two-up-about-how-late-I-normally-am.

"What House do you think you'll be in?" Padme asked a few minutes later.

"House in what?" Rose asked. Padme and Lily chuckled at that.

"Hogwarts, dummy," Said Lily.

"Ohhhhhhhhh. Okay. I think I will be a Gryffindor. Or Hufflepuff."

"I think Hufflepuff would suit you," said Padme.

"Wanna bet?" Asked Lily to Padme. "If Rosie gets into Hufflepuff, I'll give you 10 galleons. If it's Gryffindor, you owe me a 10."

"Your on."

Their conversation was mostly of Hogwarts, with the exceptional what-do-you-wanna-be ("Told you I wouldn't forget," Lily had said to Padme).

Hermione and her daughter sat at the table, waiting for Draco.

"How… How are you feeling? About Hogwarts?" Hermione asked Padme.

"I'm feeling alright, I guess…"

"What's wrong?"

"It's just…" she sighed. "It's nothing."

"Mai…"

"Mum, I am okay."

"Padme… Your 'okay' would normally be someone's happy. Tell me what's wrong. Please."

Padme sighed again, then said, smiling a little, "Well, I don't have any choice, do I?"

"Nope." Said Hermione, looking hopeful.

"It's just… Most children who go to Hogwarts have had signs from the start. Even you, even though you were a muggle-born, you could do things at the time that you couldn't explain: no logical way it was possible."

"And…?"

"Well… I haven't had any signs… not in the slightest… What if… What if Hogwarts just isn't for me?"

"Padme, that's not true." Said Hermione firmly, "You're a talented girl; You can do loads of things lots of people your age can't do… Like, till they're 15!"

"Like you, Hermione." Came a voice from the doorway.

Hermione gasped. Padme had to fight the urge to giggle.

"How long have you been here?" Hermione asked, a raised eyebrow, still recovering from her shock.

"Long enough to know that both my girls are having a very, very heartfelt conversation."

"Hmm." She said disapprovingly. Padme couldn't fight the urge and let out a laugh.

"So, what is this, very, very heartfelt conversation, then?"

"Oh…" Padme said quietly. She went from amused to uncomfortable very quickly. "It's nothing."

"If this is nothing, I'd hate to see what okay would mean."

Hermione spoke up, "Draco, what was that thing Padme did when she was born?"

"Oh, that? It was something odd. But awesome at the same time! Too bad we never knew what it was, and the fact she has never done it since."

"Yes, but what happened?" Hermione, smirking at Padme.

"Your eyes changed color, Mai. Like, literally changed color. From the hazel brown you have now, to a vibrant orange, then into blue, then green, then a pretty shade of violet, then back to brown. You haven't done it since."

"…Wow… Really?"

"Yup," Said Draco and Hermione in unison.

"That's cool…"

"It sure was. I think we have a photo or two…"

"Ooo, can I see?"

"I will see if I can find them." Said Hermione, walking upstairs.

"You know, your mother had a very special talent when we were back in school," Said Draco.

"Hmm… What was it?"

"Well, let's see…" He said, pretending to think very hard. "Being a Gryffindor-" (Padme grinned) "-and being an insufferable know-it-all-"

"I HEARD THAT!"
