Thank God I Know Now

Hours past his usual time to leave work, exhausted was an understatement for Harvey's current state. Cases piled up on him the entire week, and all he wants now is to get home and grant himself some peace in the warmth of his wife's presence.

Seeking just that, he wore his suit jacket that laid on the couch, leaving his own office as he made his way to the COO's.

Donna was already preparing to leave as well by the time he reached her office. About to welcome himself in like what he always does, he stops just outside her door, one hand frozen on its handle.

That's the only time he noticed it; morning errands requiring him to leave the house early, and endless meetings keeping him out of the firm for almost an entire day — all but leaving him no chance to catch a single glimpse of her until now.

Harvey loves staring into every inch of her dresses, something he never tried to hide even before they became a couple. Shamelessly checking her out. His eyes conveying more than what his words could back then.

Of course he had his favorites, this dress, in particular, holding a special place in his memory.

Memories filled with purposely barging into her old office in what was then Pearson Specter Litt to tell her some news about Jessica, sensing something was off about her but not fully realizing it until her lips were on his, Donna breaking away before he had the chance to give in, feelings awakened yet only one of them willing to acknowledge such.

He unconsciously heaves a sigh as he takes in the sight before him now, overwhelmed with yet another wave of emotions. Gratitude and joy mostly over the thoughts of how far they've come since the last time he saw her in the same dress.

And all of a sudden he's striding towards her, hands landing on the sides of her waist as he closed the gap between them, lips molding into one, her arms instinctively finding their way around his neck despite her initial shock.

Baffled with the surprising yet definitely welcome affection, she let him take the lead, until he slowly pulled back, keeping his hold on her.

Harvey swore he could see it in her eyes at that moment — the confusion that transpired in his back when their roles were reversed and he was the one caught off guard. Only now, that confusion wasn't accompanied by dread and a sense of being lost. Both replaced with elation and unguarded love that none of them were willing to deny themselves any longer.

"Thank God, I know now," he breaks the silence, grinning at her like he just won her all over again for the first time.

That's when it kicked in for Donna. She wasn't certain if he remembered such detail, considering his reaction that night, but she surely did. That kiss being the first thought in her mind too when she picked the dress this morning.

"You sure do," she replies, beaming and matching the happiness radiating from his face.

"The only question now is, what are you going to do about it?"

"What I've wanted to do that night but failed to realize…" His left hand reached for her right, intertwining them together, "Take you home with me and finally have my way with you."

He leaned in for another lingering kiss before they headed off for the night. Both finally where they're supposed to be after years of running in their own little circle.
