I'm back with the third chapter. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten many reviews or likes for this story, but a lot of views. Please tell me what you think about this story. Sometimes I feel like no one is reading this. I will be posting twice a week now, once on Wednesday and once on Saturday. I've finished typing the last chapter and have started on the sequel. Tell me what you think I should name it. Either: X-Strike Chronicles 3: The Clone War, X-Strike Chronicles 3 :Sinister Sequel, or X-Strike Chronicles 3: Dead no More.
Chapter Three: Phoenix Rises
Beast and Professor X entered the hallway where a bunch of the students were cowering in the hallway. Logan stayed with Jean in the basement. They reached the medbay where Beast and Storm immediately started shouting at each other. Scott was on a medical bed screaming in pain. Two laser beams had torn through the ceiling, and smoke filled the room as they could see the sky through the hole in the ceiling.
"Scott shot a laser beam through the medbay," Beast explained.
Professor X wheeled over to Cyclops, who's eyes were wrapped closed with a cloth.
"Scott, calm down," The Professor said.
"Where's Jean?" Scott demanded.
"She's downstairs." Storm answered as she replaced the cloth with Scott's visor.
"I have to find her," Scott answered as he started to get up, but three pairs of hands held him down, one of them was blue and furry.
"Hank?" Scott questioned as now he could see. "When did you get here?"
"I came for Jean's funeral, but now she's alive." Beast responded.
"Scott stay down, you're hurt." Storm said.
"What about Jean?" Scott asked.
"She's okay."
Professor X groaned as the mental blocks shattered in Jean's head.
"Professor?" Ororo questioned.
"It's Jean," Professor gasped. "Jean, you need to stop it now,"
"LEAVE US ALONE!" The Phoenix answered back.
Professor X groaned. "The Phoenix is blocking me out! She left the mansion."
Storm and Professor X reached the basement to find it wrecked. They went into the room Logan was in. They found him slumped on the floor.
"Logan?" Storm cried as she helped him up.
"Jean… Jean!" Logan realized as he regained his consciousness.
"Logan what have you done?" Charles Xavier demanded.
"I-I think she hurt Scott." Logan gasped.
"I fear we may be too late." Professor X groaned.
Mr. Warren Worthington II stood facing the window. His secretary Kavita Rao entered the lab behind him.
"Is Secretary McCoy going to be a problem?" He asked without looking behind him.
"His political views seem somewhat at odds with his personal issues." Kavita Rao answered.
Another woman entered. "Excuse me sir? Your son's arrived."
"Good. Bring him in." Worthington II answered.
"Are you sure you want to start with him?" Rao asked.
"I think it's important, yes." Worthington answered.
Warren Worthington III, who was now a young adult, entered the room.
"Hello Warren." Mr Worthington said. How are you son? Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah." Warren responded nervously as he looked around the room. Warren wore a long brown jacket.
"You know, I'm proud of you for doing this." His father answered. "Everything's going to be fine. I promise."
"Yeah, Whatever. Let's just get this done." Warren retorted. Two scientists removed Warren's jacket which revealed straps around his chest and back that held his wings down. The guided him to a large board that he laid against. Warren began to panic. Kavita Rao opened a small case and took a container with a liquid in it. She placed the container in a shot. Warren began to sweat. He wasn't scared of a lot of things, but needles always freaked him out.
"The transformation can be a little jarring." Rao pointed out.
That didn't make Warren feel any better.
"Dad, can we talk about this for a sec?" Warren asked worryingly.
"We've talked about it, son. It'll all be over soon." Mr Worthington answered. "Everything's going to be fine."
"Wait." Warren said when Rao approached him with the needle. "I can't do this."
"Warren, calm down."
"No, I can't do this." Warren hissed.
"Yes you can." Mr Worthington answered a little more sternly.
"Okay, just give me a minute." Warren was strapped to the board.
"Just relax, son. Take it easy."
"NO! I can't do this."
"Calm down! I promise you it will be fine!"
"Dad!"
"Warren, relax!" The needle started to poke his skin. Warren couldn't handle it anymore. His wings stretched and broke the straps and shoved the two scientists holding him down to the floor. He leapt up and his wings expanded. Mr Worthington and Kavita stepped back, looking at his wings in fear and shock.
"Warren, it's a better life. It's what we all want-" Mr Worthington started to say.
"No." Warren retorted. "It's what you want." Warren started to run towards the window.
"Warren, NO!" Worthington II shouted. Warren shattered the window with the force of his body before freefalling towards the ground. He widened his wings and glided over many cars and people before soaring into the sky.
"Are you crazy?"
Kyle and Bobby were in Bobby's room studying.
"What do you mean I'm crazy? If you think that's crazy, ask Cyclops." Kyle answered. Bobby laid on his bed, fully dressed, doodling on a piece of paper.
"No, I don't think Ms Jean is alive." Bobby answered.
"I do."
"What makes you think that?" Bobby asked.
"Scott kept saying something about her being alive." Kyle answered.
"You know that Mr Scott has been off lately-"
"He's not crazy. Professor X, Storm, Logan and that furry guy won't let us downstairs. The Danger Room session was canceled also." Kyle pointed out. "I think that they're hiding something- or someone in the basement. See? Maybe Scott's not crazy."
"Maybe you're crazy." Bobby answered, flipping the pages of one of his school books.
Kyle narrowed his eyes at him.
"Well, one of us is right." Kyle concluded.
"Yeah, sure."
Professor X, Logan, Storm, Scott, and Nightcrawler drove in a car to the Grey house. Xavier had used Cerebro to track down Jean to her parent's house. They left the car to find some people outside of Jean's house. Magneto and the Brotherhood were waiting.
"I need to see Jean alone." Professor X said, stopping Scott from entering.
"You were right, Charles. This one is special." Magento said.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Logan demanded.
"Same as the Professor. Visiting an old friend." Magneto mocked.
"I don't want trouble here." Professor X answered.
"Nor do I Charles, So shall we go inside?" Erik asked.
The two approached the house, while Logan, Scott, Storm, and Kurt stayed next to the car.
"I came to bring Jean home. Jean is not well." Professor X pointed out.
"Funny, you sound like her parents." Magneto answered. "Nobody gets inside." He told Juggernaut. Juggernaut was a hulk of a figure, and held a helmet under his arm. Beside him was Callisto, who had super speed and the ability to sense mutant's superpowers. Two other Brotherhood members were Arclight, who could release shockwaves, and Quill, who could project porcupine-like spikes from his body. The two mutants entered the house. Every item in the house was acting odd. The silverware shook, and the ceiling light swayed from side to side. A container of water bubbed. Pictures on the wall vibrated against the wall.
They entered the parlor and everything that was floating in the room around Jean dropped onto the floor when the two entered.
"We knew you'd come." Jean said in a creepy voice.
"Of course." Professor X answered. "I've come to bring you home."
"We have no home." Jean answered.
"Yes you do," You have a home and a family." Professor X answered.
"You know," Magneto interrupted. "He thinks your power is too great for you to control."
"Erik...It's not her power-she's-"
"I don't believe your mind games are going to work anymore." Magneto said loudly for Jean to hear.
"So you want to control us?" Jean asked. "You can't control us."
"Us?" Magneto questioned.
"No Jean, I don't want to control you." Professor X answered.
"He does," Magneto corrected.
"No," Professor X said louder, glaring at Magneto. "I want to help you."
"Help us?" Jean asked. "What's wrong with us?"
"Absolutely nothing." Magneto quipped.
"Erik, stop!" Charles hissed.
"No, Charles! Not this time!" Magneto retorted.
"It's for your own good." Charles assured.
A lamp hurled through the airand shattered against the wall.
"Stay out of her head," Said an unfamiliar voice that wasn't Jean's. Professor X hesitated.
"Let me speak to her," Professor X pleaded to the Phoenix.
Cyclops, Logan, Storm and Nightcrawler watched as the gate to the Grey's property start to swing open and then close.
"I'm going in." Logan finally said.
"The professor said he'll handle this." Storm responded.
Cyclops turned to Kurt. "Get me in the house, Kurt. Logan, Storm, distract the Brotherhood. Nightcrawler was about to teleport with Cyclops when a soundwave whoosed towards them, blasting the two in separate directions.
Arclight prepared another soundwave with her hands.
"Let's go. NOW!" Logan shouted. Juggernaut put on his helmet as Logan unsheathed his claws.
"Hey, Wolverine," Juggernaut taunted. "I heard that your claws can slice through anything. Wanna give it a shot?"
"That's it." Logan hissed. He ran at Juggernaut. Juggernaut ran at Wolverine. They clashed, and Logan went flying through the air onto the driveway. Juggernaut was not harmed as he lifted Logan up. Logan stabbed his claws through Juggernaut's arm, but Juggernaut felt no pain as he threw him through the window, shattering it as he crashed into the table. Storm flew up and spun around creating an electric tornado. She zapped Quill and Arclight to the side, and then sent a beam of electricity into Callisto, sending her crashing through the front door. Cyclops sprang to his feet and shot an optic blast at Quill and ran towards the house. Nightcrawler teleported just as Arclight shot a shockwave at him. He kicked Arclight away before teleporting Cyclops inside the house.
"Look at me Jean," Professor X said when the furniture started shaking. "I can help you, look at me!"
Jean looked at him in the eye, showing dark black eyes.
"Get out of our head!" Jean shouted. "Don't harm us!"
Professor X was shoved back a few feet.
"Perhaps you should listen to her, Charles." Magneto suggested.
"It's not her. It's the Phoenix." Charles retorted. "You must trust me. Jean don't let the Phoenix control you!"
"I think you want to host the Phoenix Force," Magneto guessed.
"Erik!" Charles hissed out. "JEAN CAN YOU HEAR ME?"
"STOP IT!" The Phoenix shouted. Charles was shoved back again, and Magneto went flying into the kitchen. An invisible wind picked up in the house.
Callisto picked herself up at face Storm. Suddenly Callisto was near the fireplace. She laughed at Storm's confusion before socking her in the face.
Juggernaut lifted Logan and threw up up towards the ceiling, where Logan crashed back down. Juggernaut kicked him outside the broken window.
Callisto headbutted Storm and then smashed her head on a glass table.
Archlight released a shockwave at Cyclops, knocking him into a bathroom and smashing everything off of the bathroom sink. Quill timed Nightcrawler's teleportation and then grabbed Nightcrawler and held him in place while Arclight threw a punch at Kurt sending him up the staircase.
"I can help you control it," Charles said telepathically to Jean.
"LEAVE ME ALONE CHARLES," The Phoenix interrupted. "I think you want to control us. You can't control us."
"I don't want to control you," Xavier responded. "I only want to speak to Jean,"
"Speak to us instead!" The Phoenix retorted.
"No, I won't let YOU control Jean," The Professor answered. "Leave her alone."
One of the wheels on Professor X's wheelchair popped off, shifting the wheelchair slightly. Professor X ignored it.
"Kurt! Get to Jean!" Scott shouted, blasted Quill to the side. Nightcrawler teleported into the parlor where Jean and the Professor were.
Xavier whirled around. "Kurt, NO!"
With telekinesis, The Phoenix swept Nightcrawler away, crashing him through the parlor wall, and through the kitchen window outside.
"Professor," said a faint voice to Professor X telepathically.
"JEAN! Can you hear me?" Professor X demanded. "Don't let the Phoenix control you!"
The Phoenix, which had been distracted by Nightcrawler, took control again. "This is your final warning Charles Xavier,"
The gravity in the house suddenly went crazy. The house floated into the air and the X-men and the Brotherhood were pinned to the ceiling. None of them could move. Logan grunted and with a yell, he turned his body over and plunged his claws into the ceiling. He used his fingers to slide open the parlor door to see Professor X being suspended in the air by the Phoenix. Jean had stood up, and fiery orange wings projected behind her back.
"Jean...let...me...in…" Professor X whispered. His clothing started to flake into tiny dust particles.
"No, Jean," Magneto cried from the kitchen. "JEAN-"
Logan grunted and peeked through the door to see the Professor turn to face him and faintly smiled.
Cyclops blasted the parlor wall with an optic beam. "JEAN, NO!" Cyclops shouted.
Jean whirled around and took control. "Scott."
The Professor dropped to the ground, and the gravity went back to normal, however, everyone dropped to the ground along with the house.
Fighting one of the world's most powerful telepaths slightly weakened the Phoenix menatly, which let Jean take control. The fiery wings disappeared from her back.
Jean looked at Charles Xavier, who was unconscious on the floor.
"Oh my God," Jean gasped, looking around her. "What have I done?"
Cyclops crawled out from underneath a large piece of plaster.
"Jean, it's me!" Cyclops cried. Jean disappeared as she shot into the sky with a bright light and flew away from the neighborhood.
Magneto lifted the unconscious Brotherhood with his metal controlling telekinesis and retreated from the house.
Logan and Storm raced to the parlor of the house to find Professor X's wheelchair and the Professor unconscious on the floor.
"Oh, god, NO!" Logan cried. Storm checked the Professor's pulse.
"He's still breathing," Storm said. "But not for long. Let's get him to the Mansion!"
The Phoenix flew to space, away from Earth, away from the Milky Way. She flew to another galaxy. The Phoenix took control as it flew to another solar system's core.
"I hunger." The Phoenix said. "This star will do good." The Phoenix flew to the star and consumed it. An alien planet with peaceful inhabitants looked to the sky just as their sun exploded, destroying the planet along with the other eleven planets in that solar system, killing millions of the habitants.
"What have I done?" Jean wondered.
As I said in the last chapter, Jean is not going to be a handicapped/brain dead elderly woman when she's not in control of her powers. I will not kill off Professor X. Again, I was going to include Kyle at the Grey House Fight, but I realized that he didn't really have a place there. I promise you Kyle will unsheathe his claws into action in the coming chapters. I also included Nightcrawler. I'm trying to develop Angel's character in this story, since the movie didn't. Angel won't have that big of a role in this story. I'm trying hard to change his personality to what it was like in the comics, you know, a rich son of a millionaire/playboy. Not a shy and insecure young adult. Did you like Jean/The Phoenix's behavior when they spoke like, "We" instead of "I"? I wanted to make the Phoenix sound more creepy. And I felt like the Phoenix Force had a romantic obsession with Jean Grey when it is saying stuff like, "She is mine now" and "We are one". Let me clarify this, just like in the comics, The Phoenix Force is genderless, and is not romantically involved with anyone. Of course, it's really hard to imagine an organism without a gender, either we will think of the person as a male or female. I usually view the Phoenix as a female, mostly it depends on the host.
Here's the teasers:
"Thanks you for this Bobby,"
"My powers are nothing compared to yours,"
"You are speaking to US. And you lie."
Updates will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
