Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or the Avengers
Chapter 2:
Harry could firmly say he was impressed by the new world he found himself in. After staying silent during their discussion, Hill had been assigned the task of giving him a tour of the building. What he was not expecting was to find that they were flying through the air. Hill had explained that they were onboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier which acted as one of multiple headquarters.
He had been shown around most levels of the helicarrier, including some of the labs and the runways. He wasn't introduced to anyone new or shown anything which stood out as something classified. They must be playing this cautious, but Harry didn't think too much about it as he took in everything.
The technology and equipment he was shown was vastly superior compared to anything he remembered seeing in his old world.
While the TVs he remembered from the Dursleys were large boxes, the ones shown to him were thin and smooth. The computers were thin sheets of glass that were 10 times more useful than the ones he remembered seeing at the library. While hose had been really only useful for calculations, Maria had shown him the multitude of uses the modern ones had.
The tour came to an end when Harry was taken to a small, off to the side, room where Nick Fury was waiting at a small table.
"Now that you've been shown some of the basics around here we can start on what exactly you'll be doing around here," Fury started as Harry took his seat across from him. "We're going to be giving you training to become a covert operative."
"Once you complete your training we'll determine your clearance level, but you're going to be used primarily as a spy and hit man. I think your magic would make you perfect for sneaking in and dealing with the enemy."
"Magic can simplify many things, sneaking around just happens to be one of the easier," Harry said with a cocky smile.
"Good, now we need to bring you up to speed with the happenings in our world. Recently the Avengers fought off an alien invasion."
ooo0ooo
Even though Harry had already learned about the attack from Hill's mind it was still a shocking tale to hear. Fury told him all about the Avengers, who each member was, and their abilities.
He was most interested in meeting Thor. The magical world was heavily connected with the various mythologies around the world and the fact that here they could be actual gods was awe inspiring.
His brother, Loki was also known to use magic. Harry wondered if their magic was the same or an entire new branch he didn't know about. He decided he would try and learn all he could about it if given the chance.
Hearing about the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that were a part of the group made him wonder if Fury's ultimate goal was to get him to join as well, but decided to forget about it for now. He would only join if the chance to learn more magic presented itself; for now he was content with trying to start a new life here.
"I believe you've been shown the hangers for the jets," Fury started, interrupting his thoughts, "if you want to head that way I'll meet you there and take you to your new apartment."
Harry rose, nodding his head at Fury in understanding, and left the room still wondering about the things he could learn in this world.
As Fury stood to follow he turned towards Hill and said, "No one is to know about him, I'm making this a clearance level 9."
"But sir is that really necessary," she asked confused.
"If what he's told us is true he could be a very dangerous player. I plan on keeping him off the map, to only take down some of our highest targets then disappear. I don't want to risk him unstabilizing."
"I'll make sure there's no clues for anyone to follow."
A nod of acknowledgment was all she received as Fury left the room.
"I hope he knows what he's doing," muttered Hill as she followed, shaking her head the entire way.
ooo0ooo
Harry was shaking his head at the contraption he now found himself in. After Fury had arrived he had led him to something he called a Quinjet. No one else accompanied them as they took off at speeds he would be hard pressed to keep up with on his old broom.
After a couple minutes Harry realized they were passing urban areas and heading towards a more rural area.
"So I thought that I would've been placed in the city. That seems to be where a lot of the action is," he asked.
"That's exactly why you're not. I believe it would be more beneficial if you kept off the radar for now. You're going to be working a lot as a spy not fighting in the open and I don't want to risk your exposure so early."
"Besides," Fury continued, "you're going to be working with an ex S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. I've convinced him to train you, something he hasn't done since he retired, so we're going to have to go to him. He's been living in upstate New York for the last couple years, so you're being given a cabin nearby."
"That makes sense," Harry agreed, "but when do I get to meet him."
"I'm taking you to the cabin then we're going to give him a visit before I leave you in his hands. Now get ready we're about to arrive."
Harry looked out the window to see them nearing a clearing in the trees that we're all around them. It seemed when Fury said off the radar he took it to the extreme. As they started to slow and lose altitude, Harry was able to get his first glimpse of his future home.
It was a simple two story cabin with a front porch and a patio that seemed to connect to a loft. After they landed Fury led him inside while telling him the basic schematics of the house.
"So it's a simple log cabin, but it has some modifications. You'll find a standard laptop and a TV downstairs with a decent kitchen to go with it. This has mostly been used as a getaway for agents so it's nothing too fancy. There's also a loft upstairs and a basement to go with it."
As Harry took his first step inside he realized Fury had been too modest. There was a clear pathway in what was obviously the living room and to the left was a staircase that would take him to the loft. A door was just behind it which, if he had to guess, led to the basement.
To his right was a standard setup with a couch that was facing a stone fireplace and a recliner that was sitting at a 45 degree angle facing said fireplace. The biggest surprise was a large TV that hung above the fireplace.
It had to be easily 75 inches if not more, and seemed to be state of the art from what he could tell.
Straight ahead, past the living room and to the right of the staircase was the kitchen. There was a wooden bar separating the kitchen from the room and as he walked farther in he realized that the appliances seemed fairly new.
The refrigerator was nearest to the stairs, with the oven to it's right. In the corner was a microwave and beside it facing the far right wall was the sink with a large window above it. The dishwasher was directly beside that.
All in all, Harry thought the cabin had the perfect old time feel while also still being modern enough to not feel like he'd return to the backwater that was magical Britain.
"These appliances are all relatively new, nothing state of the art but certainly nothing to scoff at," Fury said as he came up beside him.
"They certainly seem a lot nicer than anything my relatives had and they weren't exactly poor," Harry retorted.
"Yes well from what I've heard your world was also a lot less advanced than ours. Besides, we're getting off point, we need to go we're expected to meet your trainer in 10 minutes," was his response as Fury started to leave, "upstairs you'll find your room in the loft with the computer. You can do what you wish with the basement as it doesn't have anything in it."
Harry took all this in as he followed and got back aboard the Quinjet. He was already making plans in his ahead about what he would change in the cabin. 'It just needs a little magic touch,' Harry thought with a smirk.
ooo0ooo
Harry didn't pay too much attention on the way there, opting to instead ponder upon something that had been bugging him since he arrived.
He still had no clue where his wand was. After being taken captive he assumed that the ministry had taken it, but if he was truly the Master of Death it surely wouldn't be that easy to take it. He, of course, had no problem using wandless magic thanks to the power boost he received from the Hallows, but would miss the finesse a wand granted him. Practicing controlling the amount of power he released through his wandless spells would have to be a priority.
Harry barely registered as they landed and Fury led him outside to a small encampment.
As they walked closer a middle aged man of obvious Russian decent walked out of a large tent to greet them.
"This is Viktor Kovalev, he was KGB before he became a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. He's been responsible for training some of our best agents.
"Not much to look at but we'll see if you have what it takes," Viktor said as he held his hand out.
"I can guarente-," Harry started going to shake the man's hand before his wrist was suddenly twisted and the man moved closer and flipped him on his back.
"First lesson be ready for anything even from someone you consider an ally," he said holding his hand out again.
'Sound like Moody,' Harry thought as he pushed the hand away and rose by himself.
"Good, now we can truly begin"
Harry was suddenly on the defensive as the man jumped in with an attack.
As he blocked the right hook aimed for his face he didn't see the sweeping leg until he was once again flat on his back. Not giving the man any time he immediately rose to his feet and charged in. Throwing punch after punch everything was dodged, which only made him madder, until he was stopped dead in his tracks as the man hit him with a jab to the stomach then followed up with an uppercut to the jaw.
Harry's increased strength from his magic saved him as he stumbled back from the blow. If not for his magic, he had no doubts he would've been knocked out from it.
"You're fast and obviously very strong to be able to take that punch, but you have no discipline," his trainer said as they stood in a stalemate, "you're obviously untrained and I'm wondering if you even have what it takes to get through my training."
"I'm more than capable of completing your training," Harry said, realizing he was hopelessly outmatched here, but it would be incredibly beneficial for him. "Run me through the ringer, I'll survive it."
"Very well," was his response before he was suddenly under attack again.
ooo0ooo
Harry arrived back into the living room of his new cabin with a small pop. He had arrived at Kovalev's camp around mid afternoon and it was now well past dark. He was mentally and physically exhausted from the torture he had just been subjected to. Most of the session had been spent being used as a human punching bag while receiving a couple pointers in between.
Despite his hatred of the method he couldn't deny it had seemed to work, by the end of the session he was able to at least last a while longer before getting beat, although he still was unable to land a punch.
Fury had left pretty early after they started and thus Harry was forced to use his last dregs of energy to apparate home. He just knew whenever he saw the man next he was gonna curse him for the experience.
Harry dragged himself up the steps to where he knew his new bed was waiting. He knew he would need all the sleep he could get as he was expected to be back at the camp tomorrow at 7 am sharp. His plans were ruined as soon as he reached the top step and turned towards the bed.
Harry lost all signs of tiredness as he couldn't believe his eyes; the answer to one of his biggest questions had been solved and the answer sat right in front of him. He didn't know how they came to be here, but located on the edge of his bed were the three hallows lined up like the symbol he remembered. The invisibility cloak was laid out with the elder wand in the middle and the resurrection stone laying on top.
He approached them cautiously fearing a trap, even though realistically he knew it wasn't. He could feel their magic even from here, it was something he had gotten very used to. He knew these were the genuine artifacts, but he was stumped on how they came to be here.
Taking a risk he decided to reach forward and take a hold of them, although as soon as he touched them he was blinded by a bright light.
Shaking his head he looked around, confused as to how he came to be here and where was "here" exactly. He was surrounded by white walls every which way with seemingly no escape. Suddenly without warning a section of the walls opened to reveal an old man walking forward with the help of a cane.
"Who are you. How did I get here," Harry asked in quick succession.
"Please take a seat and we can discuss everything," the old man said as he waved his hand and conjured a comfy chair to sit upon.
Harry did the same and gave him a look that clearly stated that he wanted an explanation.
"We are currently in your mind brought here after your interaction with the hallows. As for who I am I think you can work that out. I'm something of an old friend."
"You're Death," Harry said wide eyed, "but how's that even possible. Wait does this mean that I am truly the master of death?"
"Of course not," the man snorted, "I am indeed Death or at least personified by your mind, but there is no such thing as the master of death. You are indeed connected to me but more as a vessel for my power."
"When you brought the hallows together you proved yourself worthy of my power and was given new powers accordingly. You can't do anything like bring people back from the dead, at least not without a price. You were given a significant magical boost as you could tell. From here your magic will only grow in strength while the hallows will never leave you," Death explained.
"So I'm what, like a god or something."
"No, at least not at the moment. You've been given a much longer life with the possibility of reaching the length of an Asgardian, but you're not immortal nor are you all powerful. Right now you are the strongest wizard to ever live but you have a long way to go to control the power of the gods."
"Oh ok," he said in understanding, "so anything else I should know."
"Keep working and you'll reach the level's that you dream of and don't be afraid to work with others," Death said with a mysterious smile as he started to get up and leave.
"Wait, stop! What do you mean? Why would i have to work with anyone?" Harry called after him, but it was too late as he disappeared and then everything went black.
ooo0ooo
Harry woke up slowly as light creeped into his room. Looking around he realized that he was still in his bed fully clothed from yesterday. 'What a weird dream,' He thought as he started to get up, until he noticed something on his arm. There on his right wrist was the symbol of the Deathly Hallows.
Staring at it, Harry finally decided to try something. Flicking his wrist, as if he still had a wand holster on, he thought of holding the Elder Wand and to his surprise it appeared in his hand.
'This is so cool. I must be able to summon either of the hallows from this tattoo.'
And so Harry tried it and figured out that his theory was correct. After solving that minor mystery he was able to finally focus on his surroundings. The room he found himself in was a small bedroom with only a bed and a dresser with a bathroom connected on. There lying on the dresser was the computer S.H.I.E.L.D. had promised. He ignored it for now as he knew he would have to find a way to not short it out when he used his magic.
There was also an arch that acted as the door that lead to the main area of the loft. There he found a pool table and two bookshelves surrounding it. They both had a moderate amount of books and he realized as he walked up that they were focused around different subjects. Some were language books while others were coding guides. There were even some world history books that Fury must've put there to help Harry adjust.
Before Harry could explore any more he spotted a clock that was hanging on the wall. Quickly realizing the problem Harry cast a cleaning charm upon himself and transfigured some new clothes before disappearing with a small pop. The clock had read 7:10. He was late and knew he was going to be put through hell because of it.
