Arc One: Mystery

Chapter Three: A New Friend, A New Foe, And A New Power: Part One

Good news everyone, I think I got the hang of walking.

I followed the two Pokemon to the woods, careful not to act like a stalker, as that is the last thing I need.

Right when they entered the woods, they came to a fork in the road and took the path heading to the left. This was the perfect time to break away so I took the right path.

I then decided to look for a spot that had apple trees, yet no Pokemon. It took some time, but soon I found the perfect spot.

Right now I'm finishing my third apple, and I have one thing to say: Man, these things are delicious.

I look up at the sky and see the sun a little ways from touching the trees. "It looks like it's going to be dark soon, maybe in a hour or so."

...Now what?

I rule one option out immediately: My past. I don't want to think about that at all right now. I just want to enjoy my time here, it's not everyday you're a Pokemon. Besides, my head hurts everytime I try to remember something.

Wait, I'm a Pokemon, that means I could use a move if I wanted to, right?

If I'm stuck like this, I'll have to learn how to defend myself with this body, and maybe I could learn how to breathe fire. I am a Raboot after all.

Wait, I need to take a step back. If learning a move is as hard as walking, then I may not want to risk burning down this woods. So what could I try instead? Quick Attack? No, I can walk, but I can't run. Maybe something involving jumping, but what?

DOUBLE KICK! I look around for something to attack. It doesn't take too long as a large rock is sitting right in front of me. It's about my size, if not taller. That should work.

I scan around the area to see if any Pokemon are watching.

...

...

No attention, no problems.

As I get on my feet, two voices in my head wage war with each other.

"Come on, lets go kick that rock into the sunset."

"It's a rock, isn't it going to hurt?"

"Pokemon fight all the time, it can't hurt that much."

"But-"

"WE'RE DOING IT!"

My mind is made up. It's kicking time!

I start doing some squats, preparing myself for the first part of the attack. Before I jump, I look up and see the blue sky. No branches to hit my head on.

"IT'S GO TIME!" I say as I take off.

Soon I find myself soaring high in the air. I can jump really high. Maybe a little too high, though. I start to lose my balance as I fall down to the earth. If I hit my forehead on the rock, so help me.

"No" I say to myself, more determined than ever to land the hit. "I'm not messing this up."

I fix my feet right below me as I feel the wind rising on my fur. I make sure that the rock is in the middle of my two feet. Right before I land, I close my eyes, bracing for the enevable impact and the pain that comes with smacking your feet against a rock. Why did I do this?

*THUMP!*

Both of my feet make contact with the boulder. My eyes open to see cracks starting to form from my stomp.

Funny. I expected that to hurt, at least a little bit. My mind quickly returns to finishing my attack. I lift my right leg up in order to give it one last kick.

*SLAM!*

I bounce back off of the rock. To my surprise, the boulder is more like rubble as I'm moving away from it. I am shocked at how much damage I did.

Seriously, Pokemon are really durable and really powerful.

I was so caught in my thoughts, however, that I forgot to land properly. My forehead, someway, somehow, found its way to the ground and made my ears ring. Out of all the times I've hit my head today, this time was the hardest of them of all. I've got to stop doing this to my poor head.

I look at the rubble and smile. Beside the landing, that was awesome, and with my new confidence, it feels right to learn another move, but which one? What else can Raboots learn?

Suddenly I hear something in the trees. I frantically begin to look around. I tell myself that was the wind, or maybe just a passing Swellow, or another bird Pokemon, but I know deep down, it isn't one of those.

I start to sweat. If it isn't one of those things, then that means a Pokemon might be watching me right now. Does it want to fight me, is it scared, please tell me it didn't see my landing.

My eyes then see something jump out of the trees. It's moving so fast that all I can tell is that the thing is mostly blue. Before long, the object lands on his two legs right in front of me.

Yes, it was definitely blue, that's for sure. But it also had a little yellow band around his neck. His legs were black, along with the top of his chest, but his face was mostly blue, but his nose had black on top of it, and the black on his head splited into two and went to the right and left sides of his head, all the way to two small black bags hanging on both sides of it's head. It also had two big sparkling eyes...staring straight at me.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It's my favorite Pokemon. A Rilo...or is it Riolu? Well, whatever it is called, it's walking toward me.

"That was the best Double Kick I've ever seen! You were like 'Ha', and the rock went all like 'BOOM'." he screams at me with excitment.

Sirens are going off in my head. N-not now!? I can't talk to someone now! I'M NOT READY YET, I JUST GOT HERE!

The Rilo, thankfully, seems to notice my panic and takes a couple steps back.

"S-sorry." He says. "It was just that...well I've never seen a Double Kick that good before. That was really cool."

Really cool? Well, now that I think about it, besides the landing part, it was pretty cool.

"So do you want to battle with me to see if you're better?"

...

What?!

If I had water in my mouth, I would have spit it all over him. Is this what Pokemon do for a living?! They see a Pokemon use a move and say, "Hey, that was a cool move, stranger, now lets fight!" That's messed up if you ask me.

He stares at me once more. "You know, I've never seen a Pokemon like you ever in my life. What kind of Pokemon are you?"

THAT'S PRETTY NOT COOL!

"I-I'm a-a-a Raboot. And you're a Rilo, right?"

...

...

The wind stood still when I said that. What? He is a Rilo...right?

He then falls to the ground...laughing.

"Hahahahaha!"

Something tells me that he isn't called a Rilo.

"It's not Rilo." He says, trying to stop his laughter. "It's R-i-o-l-u. Riolu."

WHAT?! I swear that I've been calling them Rilos. The one thing in my head I thought worked doesn't work as well as I thought. Great.

"Now you got me all hyped up. Come on, Pokemon fight all the time. It's how we get stronger and get to know each other better. What do you say? Please? I want a training buddy."

I think about it for a moment. Even though I just met this guy one minute ago, it might be better to fight against someone who's brawling against you for fun rather than your life.

...yeah, why not.

"Sure." I say to the Rilo-err, Riolu-

Wait, wait, WAIT! STOP THE CHAPTER! No, even though it's wrong, I'm going to stick with Rilo for the rest of this series. This is a childhood mistake that I made for two full years before I found out I was wrong. Besides, I like it better. NOW BACK TO THE ADVENTURE!

Anyways, he starts to pump his fists up and down. He really did want to fight with a complete stranger.

"Thanks, and don't worry, we play by the normal rules. We'll each start on one end, and then clash. First one to raise their hands up to surrender loses the match."

He dashes over to the other side and turns around. "Don't worry, I'm not too strong, but this battle will make me stronger, and it'll make you stronger, too."

I start to prepare myself for the fight. One minute, I used Double Kick, the next one, I'm fighting a Rilo. Man, things can change very fast. But hey, maybe it won't be so bad. I could end up learning a thing or two from-

"Three."

Wait, is that a countdown?

"Two."

Hold on, I'M NOT READY YET!?

"One." ...well, what do I got to lose?

"GO!" Right when he says "go", he disappears. Almost immediately I feel something ram into me. In the split-second I have to myself, I see it's the Rilo.

He must have used Quick Attack. I skid across the ground, somehow keeping my balence, and go to use Ember...hopefully.

It's just breathing out fire, it can't be that hard.

I breath in, try to find the fire inside of me, pray that something happens, and...scream? Yeah, that's got to help.

"Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!"

Good news, it did work, as I see little balls of fire coming out of my mouth. Somehow, it doesn't feel uncomfortable. In fact, it feels nice.

The bad news is what I don't see. The Rilo that was once in front of me is no longer there.

I then feel an urge to duck. Call it battle instinct, but whatever it was, it was right as right when I duck I feel something pass right above me. I look where it came from and see the Rilo. Now I got him-

He then uses Quick Attack again and crashes right into me. What the heck? I thought we'd be taking turns! What is this maddness?!

My battle instincts strike again as I grab his arm and toss him behind me. I think I just used Circle Throw...or I just tossed him to the side. Now that I think about it, anyone with arms can use Circle Throw, can't they?

My mind tells me to go into the trees. Why would I-Wait, he can't see me if I'm in the trees, and he isn't looking. This could be the big break I've been looking for.

I jump over to the nearest treetop, and then to the next treetop, and then the next one, and the next, and so on.

I don't believe it. The fact that I'm bouncing around the treetops like a bouncy-ball is incredible to me. Maybe I still do remember somethings after all, or this battle instinct is really good. I look over to the Rilo on the ground. He's looking around, trying to see where I am. He then stops and stands completely. This is my shot!

Instead of jumping to a different treetop, I jump straight at my target. I put my left foot in front of me. It suddenly catches fire. Soon my entire leg is engulfed in flames. Blaze Kick! And it doesn't even sting. This is really going to hurt.

"There you are! VACUUM WAVE!" The Rilo screams, throwing a white ball at me. The sphere hits me in the gut and explodes.

I realized two things right then and there. One: That hurts. Second: HOW DID HE KNOW WHERE I WAS?!

Wait a minute, Rilos become Lucarios, and Lucarios can sense aura. I slap my face as I spin in the air. How did I forget about that? Wait, that's a stupid question. I forgot almost everything, idiot.

I fall on my back onto the ground. YOU HAVE TO FOCUS! If I lose to him, then I'm going to have a hard time surviving in this world.

I get up and start panting. I need to find a way to get an edge against him. Lets see, he's a Fighting type, is there a move that I can use that could be super effective? Bounce! That's a Flying type move. I'm pretty sure I'm good at that, since I was kind of doing that in the trees.

I jump in the air, and then curl up into a ball and go back to the ground, and by some miracle, I go back in the air higher than I was before. If I can out-bounce him, maybe I can end up beating him.

During my bouncing, I see him go to use another Vaccum Wave. But this time, I time my Bounce so that I dodge it. "It's my turn!" I say as I head straight at him. I feel the wind become one with me as I make contact with him.

Whatever this battle instinct is, I love it so much. I untuck myself and launch another round of Ember. Despite my spinning, I still hit my target. I hear the Rilo grunt a little as the little pockets of heat make contact.

Dang it. Now I feel bad for him, but he wanted to fight, so this is what he's getting.

I then see the Emanation Pokemon yell and charge straight at me. His arm turns into a shiny silver.

It's Metal Claw! But he made a mistake. Fire beats Steel.

I jump at him and use Blaze Kick. We both collide in the air. It's almost like we stopped in the air. I can't believe it, but this is actually really fun. I can see why Pokemon like to fight with each other.

Suddenly, I feel myself moving forward again, and the Rilo starts to fall back.

I land on the ground, and look up to see the Rilo with his back against a tree...with both of his hands up waving in the air. Did-did I just win? "You win. *pant* I-I give up."

OH MY GOSH, I JUST WON! AND IT WAS MY FIRST BATTLE! I start jumping around. I still couldn't believe it. I won my first fight, and it feels so good. Maybe my battle instincts are top-notch after all but why do I have battle instincts in the first place?

"So are you going to...help me up?"

Whoops. I walk over to the Rilo and offer my hand to help him up. He looks at me and smiles.

"I thought I had you." He states. "You're a lot stronger then you look."

"Well, you're a lot stronger then you look too." I return.

He smiles as I pull him up to his feet. "My name's Lucas. Think I should've said that before when battled. What's your name?"

Do I stick with "Red", or do I try to- My head starts to hurt again.

"Red. My name is Red." With that, I smile back at him. I don't know why, but I just do. Lucas starts to stretch again. He isn't getting ready for another fight, is he?

"Well, I'm beat. How about we sit down and eat some apples? Maybe talk a little? I'd like to know a little bit more about you if that is ok?"

"Sure." I say.

Wait what? I said yes? To talking to him? I just met him five minutes ago, and now we're going to sit down and chat?! There's something about him, that's for sure. Maybe it's because he's my favorite Pokemon.

As we walk over to a tree to grab some apples, Lucas stops. "WAIT!"

I'm scared by his reaction. I didn't do something wrong again, did I? But then I see him stand still once more. Soon his bags on his head start to rise. He's sensing something, but what is it? I wish I could sense aura too.

His eyes then open, he does a short gasp, and then runs deep into the forest.

I'm caught off guard. "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! I yell.

"SOMEONE'S IN TROUBLE!"
