Pokémon Crimson Gold

Chapter 3: Soul Silver

"Whew, you heal fast, Chikorita, by the time Nurse Joy even took a look at you, you we're all good to go!" Ethan exclaimed to his starter, who he held in his arms. They had just exited the Pokémon center.

"Chika Chika!" Chikorita uttered.

"Alright, so just north of here is Mr. Pokémon's place, right, or was it west of here?" Ethan said, looking around the place in awe. Cherrygrove was much bigger than the small, borderline neighborhood that was New Bark Town.

"E-excuse me," Ethan said, stopping an elderly man.

"Yes son," The old man said.

"Do you know a guy they call Mr. Pokémon?" Ethan asked.

"Oh, of course, who doesn't know him." The elder said, he's straight north of here, the first house about a hundred steps of here." He spoke.

"Man, I thought so, alright well, all the best now!" Ethan said, heading north from there.

Not to long later, Ethan came to the big house, he had to walk carefully, making sure to not startle some wild Pokémon.

"This is it no doubt!" Ethan said, as he opened the door slowly. "Hello sir, I'm a messenger from New Bark Town. A messenger from Professor Elm."

"Come in, come in!" Mr. Pokémon said, getting up from his table to greet his guest. In the back, was another older man in a clean, white, lab suit.

"I'll cut to the chase, what I have here is a Pokémon egg." He said, handing a strange funny looking egg with strange shapes to young Ethan.

"It's... nice I guess?" Ethan said, placing the egg in his bag.

"A friend of mine from Ecruteak gave it to me. I bet you can't find this kind of Egg in Johto. I thought Professor Elm might be able to tell what this is." Mr. Pokémon explained. "That man's the best when it comes to the research of Pokémon evolution, some would say maybe even better than Professor Oak here."

Ethan was stunned. "Professor Oak, the Professor Oak!"

"Haha. That would be me, I'm Professor Oak, a Pokémon researcher. You're Ethan, right? I was just visiting my good friend here, I heard you were running an errand for Professor Elm, so I waited here."

Professor Oak took a liking to Ethan's Chikorita. "Marvelous! The Pokémon from the Johto region sure have a larger range than the ones in Kanto, this is one of the few times I've seen a Chikorita in person.

"Chika," the starter said.

"I can see why Professor Elm gave you that Pokémon, you treat your Pokémon with love and care, I believe."

"Of course, sir! Me and Chikorita are already best friends!" Ethan said, getting a smile out of Chikorita.

"Ah, you seem to be dependable. So would you like to help me out?" Oak said, handing Ethan a Pokédex. "It automatically records data on Pokémon you've seen or caught. It's a high-tech encyclopedia! I'd like you to have it!"

Ethan revealed his own Pokédex. "Thanks, but Professor Elm already got me covered with that.

"Oh, I see, well never mind, at the end of the day. I can see you are a remarkable trainer with endless trainer, I see in you much potential I haven't seen for a while. I'm sure we will meet again." Oak said, exiting the door.

"So, I'll get this egg delivered, bye, Mr. Pokémon!" Ethan blurted out, egg in hands.

Along the way, Ethan and Chikorita encountered a Metapod, which had come from the tall grass before them. A Pokémon he had seen when scrolling through his Pokédex earlier. "Woah, Metapod, huh, that's a Pokémon straight from Kanto.

Chikorita formed a battle stance, she was ready to fight with her everything she's got.

"Alright Chikorita, use tackle!" Ethan yelled.

Chikorita yelled, as she ran and rushed into the Metapod, but before the blow could connect, the wild Metapod used a strange move young Ethan had never seen before, it shined briefly, right before tanking the tackle albeit still being hurt by the attack.

Metapod instantly retreated upon the hit, back into the tall grass it came from. Ethan was stunned from what he just saw, the Metapod did not attack, but it somehow increased its defenses in that split moment it seemed like.

"Chika Chika!" Chikorita happily danced, bouncing up and down, after having won the fight.

"Great job, Chikorita!" Ethan told her.

It was then when Ethan got a ring on his Pokégear. "Oh, it's Professor Elm."

"Hello, Ethan something terrible has happened please come back quick!" Professor Elm said in a worrisome tone.

"Crap! This sounds bad, let's head out bud!" Ethan said to Chikorita.

"Chikorita! Chikorita!" The starter said, sounding concerned.

Ethan and Chikorita came dashing as fast as they could, Ethan ran as fast past Cherrygrove as he could to get back to New Bark Town. But stopped as he locked eyes with the same red-head delinquent who was eying Professor Elm from his lab.

The kid analyzed Ethan, taking notice of the Chikorita by his side.

"You got a Pokémon at the lab. What a waste. That's a Pokémon that's too good for a wimp like you." He said, making fun of Ethan.

"What's it to you?" Ethan said, defending himself.

"Hmph, don't you get what I'm saying? Well, I too have a good Pokémon. I'll show you what I mean!" The boy said, revealing a Pokémon from his belt.

"Go, Cyndaquil! Don't disappoint me!" He commanded the Cyndaquil which launched from his Pokéball.

"Cyndaquil huh," Ethan said, raising his Pokédex to scan his enemies Pokémon.

"Cyndaquil, the Fire Mouse Pokémon. It is timid, and always curls itself up in a ball, it flares up its back for protection."

"You're facing a Fire-type, you have a huge disadvantage, your Chikorita won't do you much good here." The red head said, continuing his boast.

"C-Cyndaquil!?" The poor thing muttered, nervous as ever.

"Ready, Chikorita?" Ethan said.

"Chika!" Chika said, preparing to battle once again.

"Cyndaquil, use ember fast!" The strange boy ordered.

Cyndaquil, although nervous, followed his trainer's command, and tried to engulf Chikorita in flames.

Fortunately, Chikorita dodged in time, that attack if landed would have hurt more exponentially than it would, on say, a normal type.

Ethan thought back to that Metapod, the move it used before it retreated, it seemed to raise its defense as a whole.

Alright Chikorita, well, if we can't raise our defenses, we can do something similar. Ethan realized.

"Okay! Chikorita use growl!" To which Chikorita listened, following accordingly, subtly weakening Cyndaquil's attack.

"A useless move, now Cyndaquil, use scratch!" The red head yelled, on the offensive. Cyndaquil went and scratched Chikorita inflicting a bit of damage.

"That's nothing! Chikorita once again, use growl," and so she did, once again lowering Cyndaquil's attack.

"Weak, Cyndaquil! Use scratch again!" As Cyndaquil went for the attack, Chikorita dodged it, and countered with a tackle.

"Chikorita, about one more growl should do it!" Ethan commanded.

"Cyndaquil! Use scratch!" The strange boy commanded his Pokémon.

Cyndaquil went ahead and scratched Chikorita, but at this point, it didn't even manage to hurt Chikorita even slightly.

"That's it! Now use Razor Leaf!" Ethan said, glad his strategy worked.

"Damn, why has Cyndaquil's attacks gotten this sloppy?!" The red head questioned.

Before Chikorita could hit Cyndaquil with a point-blank Razor Leaf, she took notice of the Cyndaquil's shy and timid face. She instantly realized she knew this Cyndaquil, and that caused her to pause.

"Now Cyndaquil, since his Pokémon is stunned, finish this with Ember!" The red-haired boy ordered.

The flame blast hit Chikorita, even if the Cyndaquil was weakened, the attack was still super effective. Chikorita fell to her knees.

"This match is over, I win." The red head said, smirking.

"Chi-Chikorita, you did your best- before Ethan could finish his sentence, he noticed Chikorita beginning to stand back up, just barely.

"Chikorita Chikorita!" Chikorita let out a fierce battle cry.

"Alright Chikorita, we'll finish this with our next few moves, now use tackle!" Ethan yelled.

Chikorita ran and slammed her full body into the Cyndaquil. Causing it to tear up a little.

"Cyndaquil, don't just stand there, use ember, immediately" The rival said.

Cyndaquil tried to shoot the fire from his nose but couldn't.

"W-what!?" The boy yelled in his confusion.

"Now, let's finish this, use Razor Leaf and end it!" Ethan adjured.

Chikorita used Razor Leaf, and with a swing of the large leaf on her head, sent multiple leaf blades at Cyndaquil.

Cyndaquil was knocked over on its side after that last hit and was unable to battle.

"You did it Chikorita! Our first victory against another trainer!" Ethan declared, getting not much joy out of his starter, who was more concerned with Cyndaquil.

"Ugh, Cyndaquil return!" The red head muttered, as he sent his Pokémon back in its Pokéball. "Humph! Are you happy you won?"

"Kind of." Ethan said, getting all full of himself. "Who are you?"

"You want to know who I am? I'm going to be the world's greatest Pokémon trainer." The Red head said, as he walked past Ethan.

"Wait just a sec." Ethan said, placing his hand on the red head's arm, this pissed the strange kid off and he shoved Ethan's hand off.

"Do not touch me, you filth!" He yelled. He went back to walking off.

Ethan snickered, taking hold of something red head. "Let's see you're fourteen, your birthday is September 19,"

The red head realized Ethan had gotten hold of his Trainer id.

"Give that back, you nuisance!" He said, snatching it back,

"And your name, is Silver." Ethan said, smirking.

"You'd be wise to remember my name." Silver said, as he walked off.

Silver, I get a feeling we're going to meet again, Ethan thought.
