Hi.
Here you guys go another Drabble, or continuation...
DISCLAIMER: Little Nightmares does NOT belong to me.
III:
Feel
He wanted to leave.
Being trapped in here, again, after endless loops, made him feel on edge. He thought he was certain of his decision, but sometimes, the silence was too much to bear.
… except for that music box… still winding.
Mono would never tell Six, but he despised that melody. That tune was like a curse, for both of them, and he hated it. He kind of understood Six's reasons for treasuring it, but he couldn't. Being betrayed just because he wanted to save her… it felt…
His eyes darkened.
He wasn't sure why he was able to remember every timeline. Was it the tower's influence? Did it make him remember it all to make him desist of his desire of saving his friend? Well, it was succeeding a little. Tormenting thoughts were swimming around his head, remembering the pain, the wrath… all over again… it was insane.
Six had huffed behind him and he turned to look at her. She was holding the little duck in her hands, and he softened his gaze a little.
Still… it's a beautiful melody.
Even if he felt such rage and hurt whenever he heard that tune, sometimes, even in the last loops when he was left to die by Six, he'd still hum the song, wanting… pleading to feel something aside those dark feelings that surrounded his heart. He wanted to believe, though deep inside he knew it wouldn't come true, that his friend would come back for him. Humming that song made him remember her, all the time.
It made him feel.
The numbness was something he tried to avoid at all cost inside the Flesh walls, but it seemed futile, not when he'd be so used to the pain that it'd become part of him, the screams inside his head would be so loud that he's swear he couldn't hear them anymore. He feared that, if he glanced up, he'd see a door; that door. He would see it opening again by himself… then…
Then…
Mono blinked as a book was placed on his lap. He glanced up and Six's monstrous face was close to his, wanting to see what was going through his mind. He wondered… did Six remember everything too? Or the tower just wanted him to remember?
"What's wrong?"
She retreated a little, then glanced at the book she put on him. Mono glanced down and grabbed it.
"Hansel and Gretel?" He read the title. He glanced up and stared at her face. "Do you want me to read it?" She nodded. "Have you read it before?" She shook her head no. "… but you know it?" She nodded. "Okay…" Then he paused, glancing at the book. "… Six? Can you read?"
The monster stared at him in silence, almost glaring at him for such a question. Mono figured she couldn't, since the book was too small for her, and, because it wasn't surprising that kids in this situation couldn't read. If he could read, it was because of an old group he used to be part on. They didn't like him, and didn't seem to enjoy reading either, so they taught him so let him do that task. At first, he only could make just a few words in this kind of books, however, with the tower giving him his old past lives experiences, he could read well enough.
Already knowing she wouldn't reply, he opened the book and started reading out loud. It seemed like a nice atmosphere; his voice along the music box playing on the background as the story kept progressing. He had to stop at some point, since he found this fairytale kind of gruesome. It touched a nerve since the children's father decided to abandon them, and he flinched at that information. Then, it almost felt like one of his adventures with Six, always running from the monster. But he guessed having a gingerbread house along a crazy witch was far better than an old school with a creepy long-neck teacher and a hospital with terrifying mannequins and disturbing doctor.
What would happen after that?
As he finished, he narrowed his eyes.
If he ever succeeded in getting Six out by her own will, then what? The Signal tower would fall apart, it was possible the signal would be broken, and the viewers would be more aggressive… and…
What would happen to…?
Six seemed to like the story, since a really weird sound, almost a happy sound came out as a growl, or it sounded like a… he didn't know, a giggle or something? He widened his eyes as he saw her laying down. She almost looked like a giant cat. She palmed the ground that was right in front of her. He guessed she wanted him to lay down with her. Mono walked towards her and let his body drop right in front of her face. It wasn't visible, but he could see her gruesome big red eyes.
He knew they couldn't sleep. The tower never let him in the past loops, he doubted it would let them now. He just kept staring at her eyes, searching for some kind of hope that she'd want to leave.
He found none.
He curled into a ball, avoiding her face now. He didn't even want to move anymore.
And the music box kept winding.
Aaaaand that's it.
I noticed some similarities between Hansel and Gretel and Little Nightmares, so I was like, why not? Besides, it's a dark story, it wouldn't be surprising that Six would like something like that.
Anyway, I hope you guys liked it!
