Arizona was sitting in the further corner of the cafe, her back to the door.
She didn't want to have a view of the street nor of the door. If she had she would seem to desperate for Callie's arrival, her face would show the worry of the wait. It would show that the bold attitude at the house was just a way to control her excitement.
Nope, she didn't want that.
She faced the back of the shop and pretended to be there just for a nice cup of coffee and some emotional turmoil. It didn't really matter that she had been there for already forty minutes and she didn't have a cup of coffee yet.
Was Callie excited too? Maybe she wasn't excited. Maybe she was just glad. What was better? No interest or a mild interest? Maybe Callie didn't really see the point of spending time with Arizona.
God, she should have asked instead of just voicing her thoughts. Callie could have said something though.
The truth was that Arizona spent years fantasizing about meeting her ex again. So much time that now she was almost questioning her ability to discriminate between dreams and reality.
No, she actually knew that it happened. She could still feel Callie's perfume, she could somehow stil taste her skin.
If Callie didn't show up, Arizona would be just grateful for that glimpse of her.

After another ten minutes, Arizona turned at the umpteenth door opening and saw Callie hurried towards her. Who she was trying to kid, that glimpse would have never been enough because Callie was such a sight for her sore eyes.
"A coffee with double cream and a deca" the brunette said to the waitress that was approaching the table when spotted the second guest's arrival.
Callie sit in front Arizona asking silent confirmation of the order she just made.
The blonde just nodded, her worry not settling with Callie's arrival. Actually, it intensified somehow.
They looked at each other smiling embarrassed for a minute. Maybe ten since the waitress was already back with their orders.
"Something didn't change..." Callie started with something simple, the coffee could be a simple start.
"And something did... Deca, really?"
"What can I say? I don't think it's good to add other stimulants to my day"
The table went silent and then they both bursted out laughing. Yeah, it was good seeing each other again.

"I am really glad you came."
"I am sorry for the wait."
"Don't be. This was unexpected for me too…" but Arizona wasn't talking just about the coffee and added "I wasn't expecting to be so pulled towards you… I didn't know I would still be." The blonde was failing miserably with words. Callie was the talker, after all. She was the doer, always had been.
So Arizona changed place, positioning herself on Callie's left side. The blonde didn't add anything else. Like in the house, at some point she just needed to be closer. And Callie didn't complain this time either.
They talked about Seattle and how the city had changed, about that Indian place that used to be on Devie Street and this coffee shop that had become one of Arizona's favorite.
At some point a man tripped on his way into the café. He was close to fall down and caught everybody's attention. Nothing major but if there was something irresistibly funny for Arizona that was people falling. It was not about making fun of them, she just couldn't help herself.
This time was no different and she bursted into a fit giggle. She tried to hide her face behind Callie's shoulder to not further embarrass the man.
That's when Callie whispered in her ear "you are awful… and beautiful."
There was an immediate mood shift. Arizona regained quickly her composure, face slightly red, a bit for the laugh a lot for the compliment.
Callie held her gaze, smiling "Don't act like you don't know."
"I don't know what you think anymore."
"I told you, something didn't change."
And then the moment ended and they went back to speak about everything and anything.

It was actually going great, they were chatting and catching up like two old friends.
Two things should have concerned them though.
The first was pretty obvious: on that table there were four hands and two weeding rings. Way too many, if I might say. Easy to slip off, if I might add. However, they were right in front of them. While holding a cup, playing with a napkin, calling the waitress for a second round. Yet, nobody asked or talked about their marriages.
Maybe they were trying to maintain a certain distance. A polite way to not intrude into the other's life, in the other's private business.
Then again, there was another concerning aspect. They weren't very good at keeping the same distance with their bodies.
Slowly but inevitably the closeness led to hands touching, strands catching, cheeks caressing. The more they pretended to be two casual acquaintances the more their bodies reclaimed their intimacy.
For two married women it didn't take that long for Arizona to leave a kiss on Callie's neck and for Callie to grasp Arizona's thigh under the table.
It wasn't appropriate but still it was on day light. Nothing really wrong could happen in a coffee shop full of people, right?
Picking up a public place for a coffee meeting was a good idea. Smart. Safe.
At least it would have been, if the two of them would stayed there. Put.
However, you can't really stop an avalanche once it's started, can you?

"We should go"
"Oh, uhm... ok" Callie was taken aback but the hurry Arizona seemed in abruptly.
The blonde left plenty of money on the table and grabbed her stuff.
Callie followed her outside questioning Arizona's behavior. Did she do something wrong? Did she go too far?
"Where is your car?" The Latina pointed the SUV on the other side of the road.
"Mine is the Audi over there. Follow me."
Callie was confused. She was trying to catching up with what was happening or maybe she was trying to gain some time before doing something stupid. Something even more stupid that what she was already doing.
Arizona could sense the brunette's hesitation and that confident self came in handy again. She came closer to Callie and stated the obvious:
"I want to be alone with you. I want you to follow me with your car to somewhere more private" and everything that could be implied with it.

As I said, Arizona should have asked. You can't really state your thoughts and believe that someone would just follow you.
Callie could have said something though. You can't just follow someone without any concern.
However, outside that cafe, there weren't just two someone.
There were Arizona and Callie. There was Arizona claiming for the both of them and there was Callie granted it for the both of them.
So, Arizona left the parking lot and Callie followed right behind.
