Chapter 3
Summary: On the second day at Ocean City, the Alliance decide to play beach volleyball in the afternoon in random teams to test their skills.
Takes place after Chapter 9 and before Chapter 10.
Ocean City Beach, Ocean City, Worcester County, Maryland
"Kageyama, nice serve!" Daichi hollered.
Kageyama performed a powerful jump serve, spiking the ball towards Nishinoya, who received it nicely.
It is currently the second day of the Alliance's vacation at Ocean City, and for a fun idea in the bright afternoon, Ukai suggested volleyball practices to not only keep Karasuno in top form and learn how to play volleyball on the beach, but to let others enjoy the thrill of it. They are currently using a large, unused area of the beach near the rocks for two courts to use.
On one team is Hinata and Jaune (middle blockers), Kageyama (setter), Daichi (opposite hitter), Tanaka and Kanoka (outside hitters), and Kouga (libero; currently on bench). The other team is Tsukishima and Cana (middle blockers; Cana is currently on bench), Sugawara (setter), Ennoshita and Asahi (outside hitters), Erza (opposite hitter), and Nishinoya (libero). Right now, the score is 11-9 with Hinata's team in the lead.
Sugawara came under and sent the ball to Asahi, who performed a powerful spike, passing Jaune, Kageyama and Tanaka, scoring 11-10.
"Yeah~!" Erza, Nishinoya, Sugawara, Ennoshita and Asahi hollered in unison.
"It's your serve, Asahi-san!" Nishinoya hollered, as it was now Asahi's turn to serve.
Asahi did a powerful jump serve, aiming near Daichi's angle. Daichi received nicely despite struggling with the sand when he's used to the traction of the gym floor.
"Sorry! It's a little long." Daichi explained.
"Left!" Kanoka hollered.
"Amanai-san!" Kageyama hollered, carefully tossing the ball to Kanoka without trouble, as the Niiyama upcoming ace was running to jump.
A three-man block of Asahi, Tsukishima and Sugawara intercepted and forced her to do a straight shot towards Nishinoya thanks to Tsukishima's timing and clever blocking, who did a rolling receive as Ennoshita followed up.
The ball was flying towards Sugawara, who served to Tsukishima again. Tsukishima got under and jumped to spike, which Hinata and Kageyama attempted to block.
But also known for his trickery, Tsukishima did a feint over the Freak Duo and managed to score a point when Daichi couldn't receive it, with the point gap now 11-11 (a deuce).
"It's embarrassing you two fell for that all the time." Tsukishima commented, in a snickering manner.
"Oh, shut up!" Kageyama exclaimed, while Hinata gritted his teeth.
The rotation switched with Cana on the court and Nishinoya out. Asahi served again and Kageyama was forced to receive, and since the setter got the first touch, he can't set. Tanaka quickly followed.
"Hinata! Follow up!" Tanaka hollered.
With his speed, Hinata jumped and spiked, but Tsukishima and Yamaguchi block and got a one touch, which Erza received in time. Sugawara got under and sent the ball to Asahi again, who attempted to score over a two-man block of Jaune and Daichi, but got reflected back to Asahi's team.
Ennoshita received in time and sent the ball over to Daichi.
"Got it!" Daichi hollered, sending the ball to Kageyama.
Kageyama got under the ball and sent the ball to Hinata. Hinata followed and with Kageyama's precision and Hinata's athleticism combined, they used their Minus Tempo Quick Attack and scored before any of the opposing blockers or receivers have time to react, reaching the score 12-11.
"Yeah~!" Hinata, Kageyama, Tanaka, Daichi, Kanoka and Jaune hollered in unison.

On the second court, one team comprised of Natsu and Yang (outside hitters), Ruby (setter), Blake (libero), Yamaguchi and Pyrrha (middle blockers; Pyrrha is currently on bench), and Eden (opposite hitter). The other team comprised of Gray (opposite hitter), Nora and Elfman (outside hitters), Weiss (setter), Gajeel and Mirajane (middle blockers), and Souma (libero; currently on bench) with the score 10-13.
"Yamaguchi, nice serve!" Ruby and Natsu hollered in unison.
Yamaguchi performed a tricky jump float serve, which Souma miraculously received.
"Aw, man…" Yamaguchi muttered.
"To the left!" Elfman hollered.
Weiss tossed the ball to the 203cm teen and easily spiked over a triple block of Natsu, Yamaguchi and Eden, but Blake managed to receive in time.
"Someone cover!" Blake hollered.
"Got it!" Ruby hollered, tossing the ball to Natsu.
Without hesitation, Natsu jumped and got ready to spike. A triple block of Gray, Gajeel and Elfman tried to intercept him and block the spike. In a surprise, Natsu aimed at Elfman's hands and performed a block-out, resulting the score being 11-13.
"Booyah!" Natsu, Yang and Ruby hollered in unison, doing a triple hi-five.
They turned to Blake and expect her to join in too, much to her embarrassment.
"Uh… B-booyah…" Blake said, stuttering as both her arms were raised up.
"You're getting there." Yang commented, giving Blake a double hi-five.

Several minutes later…
Hinata and Natsu's teams managed to win against Sugawara and Weiss' team, and are now changing players via mix-and-match for just one team since they have other stuff to do in the afternoon, getting even the youngest members for fun.
Now it's one team of Hinata and Yachi as the middle blockers (which Yachi felt extremely nervous until Hinata comforted her and remembered the times they practiced together after school), Natsu and Tanaka as the outside hitters, Eden as the opposite hitter, Ruby as the setter, and Kouga as the libero, against the opposing team of Kageyama as the setter, Gray as the opposite hitter, Juvia and Kanoka as the outside hitters, Jaune and Pyrrha as the middle blockers, and Blake as the libero. The current score is now at match point with Kageyama's team in the lead (23-24).
Currently, Juvia dug the ball after a one-touch from Jaune and Kanoka against Tanaka's spike, bringing the ball to Kageyama and tossing it to Kanoka again.
Hinata, Natsu and Ruby did a triple block and did a one-touch of their own, allowing Kouga to dig the ball himself back to their side.
Ruby got into position and tricked the blockers when they were expecting her to set… she did a dump shot and scored 24-24, making it a deuce.
Ruby gave a Cheshire-like grin. "Sorry, not sorry."
"Well played." Kageyama thought, smirking with twitching eyebrows.
"Your serve, Hitoka!" Hinata hollered, as Kouga left the court and Yachi now tagging in.
Yachi, while extremely nervous, feels Hinata's confidence and decided to believe in him believing in her. She did a steady, normal serve that went straight towards Kageyama, forcing him to receive.
"Kageyama received!" Sugawara hollered.
"I can't believe she managed to do it!" Lucy commented.
Kiyoko gripped her fist at seeing her future successor perform a successful serve and smiled.
"I got it!" Gray hollered, passing the ball to Juvia, to her joy.
"Thank you, Gray-sama!" Juvia hollered.
Juvia jumped up and managed to spike over Hinata in his attempt to block, but Eden managed to dig the ball in time, allowing Ruby to get under and toss to Hinata. But Hinata acted as the decoy and tossed to Tanaka, who easily spiked through a two-man block of Kageyama and Jaune, now with Hinata's team at match point, 25-24.
"One more point!" Happy hollered.
"One more time, Yachi-san!" Natsu, Ruby and Tanaka hollered in unison.
Hinata gave a thumbs up to Yachi as she did the same routine to Kageyama, only for Gray to receive instead.
The ball came over to Eden, managing to receive and tossed to Natsu.
"I'm on it!" Natsu hollered.
"Block him!" Gray hollered as he and Jaune hurried to block Natsu.
Natsu spiked, but the ball tipped over Jaune's hands, allowing a one-touch for Blake to dig the ball that was about to go out of bounds and back to Kageyama's team.
"Juvia-san!" Kageyama hollered, tossing the ball to Juvia.
Juvia made her run and spiked through a two-man block of Eden and Ruby, but Yachi quickly received somehow and back to Ruby.
"Finish it, Shoyo!" Yachi hollered.
Hinata and Ruby then looked at each other and nodded with a plan in mind.
"We have to block him!" Kageyama, Gray and Jaune thought in unison, quickly rushing to intercept.
Hinata made his run and jumped as high as he could, followed by Ruby's strong toss that managed to meet Hinata's spiking point.
With a clear mind and knowing where to spike, Hinata performed a Ruby and Hinata Minus Tempo Quick Attack that hit the sand next to Blake's foot, scoring the final point and winning the match 26-24.
The whistle soon blew once it's game over.
"Yeah~!" Natsu, Hinata, Ruby, Eden, Yachi and Tanaka hollered in unison.
"Alight, gang. Let's take a breather." Ukai said.
"A few more games! Please!" Kouga, Natsu, Ruby, Hinata, Blake and Kageyama hollered in unison.
"You guys… Daichi, Erza, talk some sense into-" Ukai explained, before he was soon met with all eyes of the Alliance, Oscar and Saeko keen on playing volleyball some more.
"Good grief…" Ukai muttered.
This is the first time I'm doing volleyball in my FanFiction, since I'm using Haikyū! (Which I've watched tons of times since last year to know all the plays and techniques) as one of the four verses in this crossover. I'm relatively new to using this sport but will do the best I can. In fact, there's going to be a volleyball match in part of Holy World Adventures much later on! Can't wait!
