Chapter 3: The Entrance Exams
Alright, let's get something straight.
What was I going to say again?
Anyway Let's continue…
Here's a tournament you can join, he said.
It'll be fun, he said.
Chris if I get out of this alive we are having a major conversation about the term "Fun".
I was currently running through a forest that had not only green trees, but every color of light my retina could see. Chris had told me that there would be a tournament in Universe 500.9. (That's Universe 9, Dragon Ball fans) He explicitly said that I needed to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. Meet new friends.
So far all it's gotten me is to fight for my life in a universe that clearly wants me dead. The tournament was a city wide battle royal with a dome over it. There was a seven day time limit. They started by flying competitors to different parts of the city. The locations were decided randomly.
All contestants were given battle monitors on their necks. They had collar-like appearances with a thumb pad that allowed them to surrender in the tournament. The collar scanned brain function so it wouldn't allow someone to force them to push it. It also checked the vitals of the wearer. If someone was too injured to fight then the collar would teleport them to a medical center. The technology in this world could heal people from pretty much anything.
In the case that someone was killed, the killer would be eliminated. The final prize was a currency that I didn't have any need for. I'm here to grow stronger.
Once the canons indicating the tournament had begun I had blitzed to the forest near the city. It was a terrain that gave those with great mobility the advantage. And it would allow me to stick to the shadows. This was important for me because, in terms of raw strength, was one of the weakest in the tournament.
I was taking cover behind a black bush. Many larger opponents are roaming around me. The dark of night hid me as I tried to remain quiet. These individuals were too powerful, I would need to find someone who was weaker.
I closed my eyes to start sensing the area. I put my hand on the soil and started sending ki pulses through the ground. Similar to echo location, I used this to start looking for others like me. There had to be more than just these goliaths.
I began to pick up a couple individuals just north of my location. I looked up and saw that most of the giants had moved on. I jumped out of my hiding place and started parkouring on the branches to the targets.
After about five minutes I came across a clearing. I counted about seven contestants battling each other. One was one of the stray giants that I saw earlier. He had similar qualities to a cyclopes. With one eye on his head and a large toothy grin, he was the powerhouse of the battle. With a Greek style robe and a battle axe he was giving his opponent a difficult time.
Said opponent was by no means a small individual. Being about eight feet tall and taking the appearance of a guy who looked like he was made of bone, the fighter struggled to avoid the large axe being wielded by his opponent. After dodging by jumping to the side, he was immediately kicked into the cliffside.
The giant roared in victory as the boned being disappeared in a blue light, too weak to continue. If he was able to take out someone like that with a single blow, he possessed incredible strength.
The other fighters, having seen the battle, retreated into the forest. The cyclops started yelling insults at the runners. "Ya, ya'll run! Opac is supreme!"
"Why hello, Opac is it?"
The giant turned to the voice. I emerged from the forest and started to approach the being. When I was about ten yards away I stopped. Looking Opac in the eye I continued. "I think I would like to test your theory on whether or not you are supreme. Would you care to battle."
The giant grinned before lifting his axe overhead and bringing it down towards me. There was a large boom as the axe sunk into the ground sending debris into the air.
When the dust cleared, Opac's opponent was nowhere to be found. He began chuckling to himself thinking he'd won. I decided to clear my throat to get his attention.
He looked around, trying to find the source. He finally looked behind him and saw me in the same stance I had when he brought the axe down. He pulled the blade out of the ground and swung horizontally.
I jumped into the air and onto the moving axe. Then I used it as a springboard and pounced towards his face. "Without your friends you are easy pickings to someone who can see through your moves like me."
I then started slicing my hands through the air collecting the moisture on my hands.
Fist of Flowing Water Crushing Rock
I hit him full force in the face with all the stolen momentum from his axe into my attack. I heard a sickening crunch as my open palm sunk into his jaw he then fell onto the ground with a crashing noise. He then disappeared, the collar on his neck having discovered that he was knocked out by a competitor.
"Timber" I turn around and was about to start giving chase. Maybe I could try those opponents who decided to book it.
Then I sensed an incredible power approaching. I turn towards where it was located. Whoever it was, it was moving fast. Faster than anything I can fight.
I'm about to duck into the thicket when I get hit behind the ear by a massive force throwing me into a tree. The wood gave way as I went straight through it. This process repeated for about fifty meters until my movement came to a stop.
The pain then kicked in as I clutched my now bleeding head. The damage could have been worse but it still hurt like hell. Pain was good. It meant my brain didn't take too much damage.
"That looked like it hurt."
I look up to see the fighter who had attacked me. She had several traits of a feline and a light purple skin and purple hair. She wore what to be female workout pants and a sports bra, both being black. She wore high heels however they seemed designed to allow her to run on all fours. She also appeared to have large claws on her hands.
"I'd surrender if I were you. Even though I'm not as cruel as I used to be, you still might be put through hell if you continue to fight me. So do everyone a favor and push the button." She extended the claws on her right hand slightly and took a fighting stance.
I got to my feet, "Sorry to disappoint, but I'm here to get stronger so maybe instead of batting around the bush I should just challenge you straight up." I knew there was little chance of winning. But that didn't stop me from digging my feet into the dirt and square off.
She grinned, "Alright then, you are going to regret those words but I like the fire in your eyes. So I'll satisfy your wish, then crush you." We jumped at each other.
I decided to fight like I did with the giant. I sweep the air with my hands, once again grabbing the moisture off my body.
Fist of Flowing Water Crushing Rock
The last thing I expected was her to avoid my attacks and kick me in the ribs. I cough up spit and shoot towards more trees. This time I twist mid air and land my feet on the side of the tree before jumping back at her.
I decide to gather my ki to prepare for an attack. Putting the back of my hand with the front of the other a purple aura surrounds me. "Galick Gun!"
My energy attack blasts towards her but instead of dodging she extends her claws even more. She slashes my attack to the side and then jumps to the ground. Turning over she then proceeds to kick me with both legs. I hear a crack and next thing I know I'm sent flying through the sky.
I hear a boom as I see the feline fly towards me. She winds up a strike and punches me, this shoots me back even farther.
I hit the side of a cliff and fell onto a ledge. With adrenaline still pumping through me, I get up to challenge her but to my surprise she is nowhere to be seen. I look around trying to find her.
The ground then appears to split open as she emerges behind me. Before I can react she slashes my back with a vertical swipe from her claws. Blood sprays across the ground as the wound is deep.
I fall to my knees as I struggle to gather strength. Soon after the adrenaline leaves me and the pain follows. I do everything I can not to scream but that only lead to pained grunts.
The feline, seeing I'm defeated, walks in front of me and kneels to look me in the eye. "You've lost, give up." She puts one of her hands on my chest and I feel her claws slightly press against my chest.
After getting a proper look at her I realize something. "You're one of John's disciples."
If I remember correctly, John had taken in ten members of Universe 500.9 under his wing when he was tossed here after a battle. They are the toughest of this universe but after getting trounced by saiyans they decided to learn from him.
The feline seemed surprised. Then a look of realization hit her. "And you're the student to Dratten aren't you." I nodd.
She stands up and glares at me with her hands to her hips. "Then you know that you stand no chance." I look down. Then I reach up and press the red button.
As a blue light encompassed me I looked at her one more time. "We will meet again. Remember my name. Leo."
She smirked. "Hop is mine. The next time we meet you better have gotten stronger." Then everything fades to black.
Fire
That is all I saw as I weaved through buildings and mantled debris. The whole city was completely destroyed.
Turning the corner I look up to see one of the tallest buildings in the city start to cave in and fall towards me. Stumbling to get away, I trip on an outstretched piece of concrete.
As I look up to see the building falling towards me I expect it too crush me. But instead it seems to push me through the ground.
I hit whatever layer underneath me and all I feel is pain. I grit my teeth and force myself to stand up.
Trying to understand what I was seeing, I started looking in all directions. The whole area was black. The only source of light seemed to be me.
Hesitantly, I began to poke the darkness below me to see if I would fall. Confident that solid ground was beneath me I began to walk. Where? Anywhere but here.
I hear a noise and turn to see a mirror. What looked back at me had me fall back in surprise. After a few moments, I get up and start making my way to the mirror.
What looked back at me was me, except it was me when I was ten. I reach out my finger and touch the glass. The mirror exploded in a burst of glass.
All of a sudden the world around me lightens up as I'm in a familiar place. Rubble surrounds me as I stand alone.
Alone, except for my sister crying next to me. I reach out my hand to grab her but then I see a light. I look up to see the image of a flaming wolf.
I could only stare at it as an all too familiar feeling washes over me.
Fear
The creature appears to smirk before raising his paw. Fire seems to accelerate around the end.
Then I feel an endless pain in my chest.
I shoot up out of my resting position. I turn to see green humanoids leaping back from me. They all wear the same white clothing.
The monitor next to me was screeching weirdly but appeared to calm down. I then realized I was in a healing chamber. I then realized I had grabbed one of the doctors by the throat and was currently suspending him in the air.
I let him go and look at my hands. They were still shaking. I hear coughing and turn to apologize to the doctor. "Forgive me sir, I did not intend to harm you."
The doctor, still holding his throat, signaled to me to calm down. "It was my fault my boy. I had probed at the scar on your chest and you had a violent reaction to it. Tell me, how did you obtain such a wound?"
I look down and realize that the scars on my chest were revealed to the open. Panicking, I put my hand on my chest.
"Clothes Beam!" A jacket and some gi pants appear on me. I jump up off the table.
"Please sir, you are still recovering from the tournament. The cuts on your back haven't fully recovered. If you don't let us treat them they could lead to more scars." The doctor who I had choked had jumped in my way.
Looking at him, I sign. I turn around and sit back down. The doctors surrounded me and started working on me. Whenever one of them accidentally touches one of my scars I shiver.
I hear a ding and look at my watch. It wasn't as fancy as other watches, but the one I had still had the capabilities of a flip phone. Why didn't I get an apple watch? Let me give you a hint.
This was a Nokia watch. This thing didn't break, nor get in my way when fighting.
I looked at the notification and nearly jumped for joy at the message. The message was sent by Chris.
That school agreed to take you. You need to complete an entrance exam to prove your worth. Be at Universe 605 at four o clock.
-Chris Dratten
"I got my chance!" I yell. The doctors, surprised by the sudden outburst, all looked at me with curiosity. "Oh, this school is giving me a chance to get in."
"School?" The doctors looked at me even more confused.
"..."
I needed to get out of this place.
Wait, what time was it? I look at my watch again.
3:30
"Fuck!" I jump up and start running to the door. "I don't care about the scar! I'll drop by and pay for the bill later!" I burst through and reach into my pocket and pull out a rectangular device.
I press a button on the device and start scrolling through numbers. Eventually I land on the one I want. 605.
After turning a notch, a blue portal opens in front of me. I brace myself and jump through.
My vision twists and turns as I'm sent flying through universes. Wind blasts my face as I'm thrown into a cylinder that is an assortment of colors.
Eventually, a hole opens and sucks me in. After a final flash I fall onto my feet in what appears to be an alleyway. Trash is tossed into the air.
I start waddling to a trash can. Dizziness overtakes my body as I expect to let loose what little was in my stomach. Fortunately, that did not happen.
A street nearby swarmed with vehicles. Strolling to the sidewalk I see that this world is very similar to my own. There is garbage, restaurants, even the vehicles were similar. Even if the people had more differences it wasn't unusual.
My senses then warn me of danger as it pushes me back with a jump as a man about my size bulldozes his way past me. He is carrying a duffel bag with wads of cash flying about.
After realizing that this man is a thief, on instinct my hand extends to launch a ki blast to knock the accomplice down. But all of a sudden a blur zips past me and rams into the thief.
Having knocked the man down, they turned to me giving me a good look at them. The man has blond hair with eyes that appeared to have no white covered by a yellow visor. The biggest smile I've ever seen splattered his also wore a white top with the number for million on his chest. A red cape flapping behind him.
"Sorry about that, this guy was a quick one. I had to chase him for three blocks before I caught up to him. He didn't hurt anyone did he?" asked the stranger.
I lower my hand and respond. "I had managed to get out of the way before he could ram me. Thank you for asking...what is your name?"
"Oh that's right, I'm the hero Lemillion." The hero raises his hand in a peace sign. This jump started my memory. In this world the people who fought crime were actually enlisted professionals. Hell wasn't that why he was heading to this school.
Oh year the school. Shit.
"Could you point me in the direction to a place called UA high?" I ask. He looks at me with a raised brow.
"So you are here for the entrance exams. Well UA is east of here. You shouldn't be able to miss it. It's huge!" The hero, Lemillion, pointed down the street. Many other teenagers were hustling down the street. Might as well follow the crowd.
"Thank you, kind individual. But I must now take my leave because I have ten minutes to arrive at my intended destination.. I hope we meet again Lemillion." Then a sudden dust cloud appears leaving the hero in a confused state. Blitzing my way through the crowd.
Finally arriving at the center of commotion, a huge wall took me by surprise. It happened to be eight meters tall and made of concrete and metal. The only apparent entrance was a monstrous gateway that seemed like it was designed to hold out an armada. Stepping through the gate then revealed the school which in terms of height wasn't impressive. What did make it interesting was that this building appears to be only a small part of the campus. And that was only what the eye could see.
After navigating my way through the structure, I eventually came across the conference room for newcomers. Searching for the seat assigned to me, eventually finding it in the front, other applicants began filling the room. Several in particular stood out.
One such person was a perceptively tall individual with glasses who kept on getting on people's cases for being late. He had sent a glance my way, but after pretending like I had been there for a while now he looked away.
Other such individuals grabbed my attention. Such as a kid trying to avoid attention. A green haired teen was seen with his head low and a low mumbling coming from him. After my ears having been in ten times earth's gravity for eight years, I was able to understand parts of what he was saying. The kid was apparently a fan of the powers around him and was geeking out upon seeing them.
All my senses were immediately put into shock as those great ears that were mentioned took the full force of a guy who sounded like concert speakers. I grab my head as I try to recuperate while the human speaker begins explaining the rules of the entrance exam.
The guy, who presented himself as Present Mic, had long blond hair that was spiked because of hair gel. He wore a black jacket with black jeans and had speakers on his neck. Mic was currently in the middle of the part about combat robots when the glasses male from earlier raised his hand and asked about a forth opponent on the handouts.
"If this was an error on UA pamflat then it is unacceptable! Also you up there!" glasses male pointed to the muttering green haired kid. "Your muttering is distracting, please cease at once! And you!"
Looking down to my direction he continued. "If you don't want to listen to the announcer speak then it is best that you leave! You are disrespecting them!" Before I could respond a voice next to me spoke up.
"For your information, the man you assumed was trying to block out the teacher's speech was actually clutching his ears because he heard his speech too well. The opening ruptured his ear drums." The one who spoke possessed the head of a black bird. Looked to be about 5'2 in appearance making him even shorter than me. He wore a choker on his neck and wore a typical Japanese school uniform.
Glasses male then flinched. "My apologies, forgive me for my assumption," He then proceeded to sit down. Present Mic cleared his throat.
"Thank you for the comment attendant, and I apologize to the ones who were hurt due to my opening. And to answer your question, the forth robot would take the place as something that you won't be able to defeat. Also fighting it would prove worthless since it's zero points. It's similar to a natural disaster."
Present Mic continued, "Now let's all head down to your designated sector. The buses have numbers on them that determine where they are headed."
I looked down at my pamphlet. Test site E. Guess my bus would have E on it. We exit the building and start making our way to the buses. Boarding the proper bus, I see that it is already pretty full.
While making my way to the back the bird boy from earlier saw me coming and moved his bag to his lap so that I could sit down.
Once the bus started moving I spoke. "Thank you for standing up for me back at the auditorium. You didn't need to do that."
The bird boy tilted his head towards me. "Even though I didn't need to doesn't mean that I wouldn't. You seemed to be in a lot of pain. In fact it looks like it's not just the ears. Are you sure you are ready to take this exam?", he asked.
"Well I just woke up from a battle tournament not too long ago and it was safe to say that my ass was kicked. Hard." This made the boy raise his eyebrow. "And before you ask, it wasn't an illegal street tournament. Another universe had an extended tournament I had joined to get stronger." After saying that it came to my realization that probably just gave him more questions.
Instead a look of realization came to his face. "You're from that new universe that has been on the news recently. I was surprised to learn of your existence. Tell me are there others here.
I shook my head. "I'm a candidate for a new project that would keep our worlds separate but allies at the same time. If I pass this exam I would be emitted as a special case for the hero course. My file was separate from the others so I didn't expect to make it in. But here I am."
After nodding his head the bird boy's expression then switched to a look of worry. "I have heard that this new universe has no quirks. If that is the case how do you plan on fighting? Not trying to be offensive but this is a very dangerous exam."
"Thank you for your concern but be assured that I have trained for years to the point that my body is many times stronger than the average person. I also possess great knowledge of martial arts and am able to access my life force energy to launch attacks. It's known as ki but it is commonly mistaken for chi." After stating this he seemed to relax.
"This just adds more questions for me but it is good to know that you will be able to hold your own. I guess it's only fair." It was my turn to raise an eyebrow in confusion. Then I see a little speck of darkness appear out of his uniform. Like him it bore the resemblance of a black bird. Except it was pitch black.
"My name is Fumikage Tokoyami and this is my quirk Dark Shadow. He is how I plan to fight in the upcoming battle." Dark shadow looks at me then gives me a thumbs up. I return the gesture.
"And my name's Leonard Akidna but you can call me Leo. Please don't tell anyone my full name. I'm telling you because I owe you one. It was nice to meet you, Tokoyami. Let's say we give these exams something they've never seen before."
And with that a friendship was born. We both wait as the bus takes us to our destination.
Test Site E
Me and Tokoyami got off the bus and were surprised by the massive wall in front of us. It made the gate at the entrance look tiny. It stretched as far as the eye could see and you could make out the tops of buildings over the wall.
We had gotten changed in one of the changing rooms. I was in my black typical gi pants with some black tennis shoes. I wore a long gray shirt that covered up my scars. I had used a clothes beam when no one was looking and anyone who saw.
Tokoyami was dressed in a black tank top with black shorts. He wore tennis shoes the same as mine and he kept his choker on.
Everyone started to stretch to get ready to fight. I began giving some advice to Tokoyami on how to stretch.
"Now push your hips forward while keeping your feet flat. If you don't feel anything, move your front foot farther from your body." Tokoyami did as I recommended and grunted.
"I feel something alright," he joked. This caused me to smirk.
"And go!" We stop and look at Present Mic. I then realized the door to the inside was open and patted Tokoyami's arm and then booked it through the gates. Tokoyami was following close by because of the heads up I gave.
"What are all of you doing? Follow those two!" The other contestants then started swarming the field.
Tokoyami turned to me. Dark Shadow was using itself to propel his body forward with massive claws. "It is best if we split up so that we each get enough points."
I nod and he makes a left and vanishes. Turning to the robots ahead a thought runs through my mind.
My body is slow. The wounds from my battle with Hop must not have fully healed. Not to mention the ring running through my ears from my eardrums having been ruptured. Even if they have been reduced to the average hearing my concentration would still be diminished.
Taking a few deep breaths I glare at the group of two and three pointers. Moving my hands at rapid speeds to gather wind pressure around them as well as using the wind of my momentum to form blades of air around my hands.
Fist of Whirling Wind Slashing Steel
Just as the technique was intended for, my body cut through the metal just as easy as a hot knife through butter. My body began to twist in mid air as I tried to build my force into the attacks as I cut through the robots.
Coming to a stop, I hit the ground and turned to the wreckage. The tops of the robots were gone and their remains stood straight up. It came to my realization that the higher points were made of stronger metal. That must mean that the one pointers must be aluminum made out of the same metal used on airplanes. Which the average fighter could tear off with their bare hands.
Then if he had to guess, that would mean that two pointers would be made of magnesium and three pointers would be titanium. But what would a zero pointer be made of?
I didn't have to wait long as the ground began to shake violently as doors opened from below in front of me. What began to emerge was a behemoth of a robot. Towering at fifty meters, it was even taller than the cyclops he had battled earlier.
"I can't fight you like this." I accept. My body was too injured to gather the strength to battle this thing. If the other robots were to compare then this thing must be made of a stronger metal. Only one material came to mind. Chromium. He could cut through it easily if he was at full strength but in his current state it would take too much stamina. And it would take more than one cut to take this thing down.
But I don't need to fight it. I can run off and gather points elsewhere. My body ignites in a burst of ki as I take off to the sky. Believe it or not, my speed is faster on foot because I have yet to learn how to fly at high speeds. My top running speed is 16 meters per second. My flight speed is 11 meters per second.
But this allowed me to cross the buildings faster. I begin to look for more robots to defeat but it appears that the other contestants have already dealt with them.
"Stay back, you fiend!" Stopping mid air I turn to see Tokoyami sending Dark Shadow to attack the zero pointer. It's attacks were damaging it but not much.
Why wasn't he running? It served no point.
Then my eyes catch something below him. A girl that held similar characteristics to a frog was trying to help up a purple haired kid who looked dazed. Blood ran from his forehead.
That's why. The purple haired kid must have been struck by a piece of debri from the buildings. Frog girl must have seen and went to help him and Tokoyami must have been nearby to notice that they needed help.
The zero pointer began to rear it's fist back. It was evident that if it's attack struck then they would be seriously wounded. Or worse.
I drop to the top of the building then place my legs on it's side. Pushing off the side, shooting towards Tokoyami and the others I put my hands together and began to gather energy at my side. My mind flashes to a story that Chris told me in the time chamber.
"...And then Jiren struck him with a full force blast, throwing him into the sky!"
I was leaning in close to Chris. My full attention to the story. "How did
Goku survive? It sounds like there is no way to block."
Chris leaned back. "Remember that Kamehameha he had launched. Well it still had energy left in it. With what energy he had contained in it, he created a barrier with the force of it."
"You can do that with the Kamehameha? How? Please teach me!" I was bouncing up and down at the excitement of such a way to use the attack. Chris leaned down and patted my shoulder.
"I don't need to. Just as Goku you will know what to do once you are put in a situation that requires it. Just remember that it's possible and to never overlook a problem."
"Ka"
The frog girl grabs Tokoyami with her tongue in a desperate attempt to get everyone out of the way in time. But is unable to because the robot is moving too fast.
"Me"
Dark Shadow retreats back to his master and attempts to shield the three with its body. Tokoyami yells at the other two to leave him and run.
"Ha"
The zero pointer swings its fist down towards the group. The mass of metal moving like lightning towards them.
"Me"
I slam into the ground in front of the group. My left shoulder digging into the ground. I manage to keep my ki on my right side. Unaffected by the impact.
Tokoyami looks at me with a look of worry on his face and yells. "Leo! What are you…"
"Paying you back. HAAAAAA!" cutting him off. I point my right arm in the air. My left arm is still halfway buried in the dirt. The Kamehameha, instead of blasting towards the robot, proceeds to stay in place as its energy creates a shield that covers enough space to cover all four of us. The zero pointer's fist splits in two and its pieces are forced around the group.
The zero pointer, expecting to lose it's momentum, started to fall towards us. The frog girl, who had already grabbed Tokoyami and the purple haired child, jumped away carrying the two with them. Dark Shadow then dashed forward and pried me from the concrete. Then proceeded to carry me with everyone as the robot crashed where we were just moments ago.
We came to a stop about 70 meters away from the collapsed robot. Dark Shadow set me down on my feet. Which I then proceeded to fall over face first onto the road.
My vision is blurry and my entire body is ablaze with pain. What little energy I had was used to shield us from that attack. I could feel something warm on my back and I could only assume that the wound from Hop was reopened. And if I had to guess, since all my energy was in the Kamehameha, that I had no energy guarding my left arm on impact so I may have broken it.
"Times up!" An alarm blares signaling the end of the exams. Other applicants began making their way to the entrance. Tokoyami runs over to me and checks to see if I have a pulse.
"I'm fine, it looks bad but I've had worse." I replied. He gave me a confused look before sighing.
"Just stop talking. Everything you say is giving me more questions that I want answers for." He offered me his hand which I gladly accepted. Slinging my arm around his shoulder, we start limping to the med bay following the frog girl and the purple haired boy.
When we get there an elderly woman is going around kissing everybody. I hear someone say she is an elderly hero known as Recovery Girl. Apparently, her quirk lets her heal others with a kiss by draining their stamina.
She was approximately 3'9 and was wearing a typical doctor's uniform. Her hair was gray and she had pink ear protectors with a visor. She looked to be in her 60s but he wasn't going to attempt to guess her age any more than that.
After healing the purple haired kid she walked over to us. She looks at me with concern. "You look too exhausted for me to use my quirk. I can give you these gummies but we may need to take you to a medical ward after this." she states calmly.
I shake my head, "It's fine, I was going to one after this anyway. Until then this would have to do." I put my hand on my chest. "Clothes beam!" I yell. A cast forms around my broken arm.
Tokoyami looks at the cast and then back to me. Then to the cast then back to me. He put a hand to his face, "Let's just add more questions to the pot now shall we."
"Ah, I recognize you," Recovery Girl says. "You're that kid from the other universe that took the staff hours to pick. Well the principal advised me, if I found you to tell you to meet him in his office. It's on the third floor of the main building. You should see signs that would direct you there" she pointed towards the direction of the towering glass building.
I begin making my way towards the bus to take me there. Tokoyami followed quietly as everyone else filed in. I took a seat and move to the side so that Tokoyami could sit next to me.
"Excuse me, ribbit" we turn to the opposite seat as the frog girl from earlier is staring at us. She was wearing a tracksuit that she must have changed into when everyone got there. "Thank you for saving us back there you two. I was worried that we would get crushed"
Giving a nod I replied, "You are welcome. What type of person would I be if I did nothing. And I'm sure that Tokoyami feels the same." He nodded.
She smiles, "Well I hope we all make it into the course. But just in case" she extends her hand. "My name is Tsuyu Asui but you can call me Tsu."
Tokoyami shakes it and then I, "My name's Fumikage Tokoyami and this is Leo. He wants to keep his full name secret for now. But I have a feeling we are going to be seeing each other more often".
The bus stops at the main building. While others, including Tokoyami and Tsu, make their way to the exit. I head to the UA school house. After getting inside and locating the elevator I make my way to the third floor. Once exiting I start following the signs that say 'Principal's Office'.
I turn a corner and come face to face with a guy who looked like he just came back from the dead. We look at each other for a second before he replies. "You must be Leonard Akidna. Recovery Girl notified me you were coming. Follow me."
After taking a moment to register what he said, I do as he told me to do. We make our way through the halls until we come to our destination. The man knocks on the door of the office.
"Come in". A voice on the other end yells. We open the door and I'm greeted with the sight of a mouse behind a desk. He was in a tailored suit that looked like it was custom made to fit his size and a scar crossed his right eye.
Nezu, as what the nameplate on his desk said, looked up from the files he was reading and saw me and the man enter the office. He raised his paws in the air in a welcoming gesture. "Hello Mr. Akidna, it is a pleasure to meet you. Please sit, we have much to discuss."
After taking one of the seats across from the desk, the man that led me here stood beside the principal. Nezu looked at me for a few seconds before commenting on my injuries, "You seem to be hurt. And from what I have seen during the exams you seem to have been for quite some time. May I ask what happened?"
I tensely shift in my seat, "I was not aware that Chris's recommendation would make it through to this world, let alone accepted. I was actually eliminated from a fighting tournament when I got the news that I had to be here in a short time. I was going to return to the medical bay of said tournament once I was done here."
The principal seemed to be at ease slightly at that news. Reaching into one of his drawers, he pulls out a file that he could see had his picture on it.
Nezu opened the file, "The test that you took to qualify showed you have excellent scores in almost all categories with the exception of any of our history. But that's understandable. And although you are a little bit older than other students in the first years, that doesn't disqualify you from joining."
"As for the exams you destroyed four three point robots, and seven two point robots. That leads you to a score of twenty six. You had spent too much time on the zero pointer for you to have passed on battle points alone. And fighting weakened wouldn't have helped."
I flinch at that. Did that mean I didn't pass because I was too busy helping Tokoyami and Tsu. Maybe if he hadn't joined the tournament before hand he would have performed better.
"However it's not just battle points that this exam is based on," Nezu stated. I perk up at the news. "We don't tell the combatants before the exam but we have a second set of scoring. If an applicant performs a heroic deed during the exam, we award them rescue points".
He pushed a button on his computer and turned the monitor so that I could see it. The screen showed when I had jumped in the path of the zero pointer and had used my Kamehameha to shield the three kids.
Nezu continued, "During the entrance exam, our judges had seen that you entered the exam in a weakened state. We were more than surprised when we saw a quirkless individual show such strength and reveal hidden power that we didn't know existed. But above all else, your courage to save those applicants showed us you have the heart to become a hero. And so our judges gave you fifty rescue points, topping you off at 76 points."
"This has put you at not just enough points to get you into the school. But enough to get you into the top bracket." The screen changed to a scoreboard of the exams. His file must have put he wanted to keep his full name a secret so it had only said his nickname on it.
Katsuki Bakugou Villain:77 Rescue:0
(Classified) Leo Villain:26 Rescue:50
Eijirou Kirishima Villain:39 Rescue:35
Ochako Uraraka Villain:28 Rescue:45
Ibara Shiozaki Villain:36 Rescue:32
Itsuka Kendo Villain:25 Rescue:40
Tenya Iida Villain:52 Rescue:9
Izuku Midoriya Villain:0 Rescue:60
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu Villain:49 Rescue:10
Fumikage Tokoyami Villain:47 Rescue:10
After taking a look at the scoreboard, I noticed that Tokoyami had cracked the top ten. So that means he would be entering the school.
Nezu turns the monitor back to himself, "Let me be the first to congratulate you on becoming an official member of this school. Our first quirkless student too."
I try my best to bow in my seat, "Thank you sir, for giving me this opportunity. I promise my full effort will be put forward."
"Now for some special accommodations. Since you are by all means a transfer student, that would just put you in a class with twenty. However, given the circumstances we have decided to make you the twenty first student. Mr Aizawa here would be your teacher." He gestures towards the man that walked me here.
Aizawa turns to me, "What your file says about you better be true. And you better keep true to your word about your effort. I'm going to put you through hell." He sends a glare my way that would freeze lesser men.
I look at him with respect. "If you are a strict teacher then I will have no problem learning under you. They always get the job done. Just don't take my quirklessness for being powerless."
Aizawa lets loose the smallest of smirks before getting up and exiting the room. Nezu then speaks. "Classes begin in two weeks. You will stay at an apartment complex in the downtown sector. I have seen it and find it weird that you would want to stay there."
"If it has a roof I'll be fine. Chris probably chose it out because he knows how little I can work with." I stand up. "If it is fine with you I think I should make my way to that medical ward. Gotta get these wounds healed."
Nezu nodes as I leave the office. Making my way to the gate, I stop and look at the towering structure behind me.
So this would be where I start my new path. Not Chris's path. My path. Here I can become someone Luna would be proud of.
This… was my hero academia.
After spending what felt like hours in a recovery pod, the green skinned doctors let me out of the tank. They explained to me that since I had waited so long to get treated the slashes on my back would scar. Just another to add to the collection I guess.
They had then given me directions to what they call a battle bar. A bar that has medical centers with training areas. The bar itself had consumable products that would help fighters stay in healthy condition and would allow them to perform intense training.
This place seemed like a great place to get stronger and to prepare me for UA. I hear a bell go off when I enter the front door. Several large individuals looked my way from their table. But they quickly went back to doing what they were doing.
The bar was mostly empty. Probably because they didn't sell alcohol here. Story about this place was that this universe's destroyer asked for them to be set up because he had wanted to make this universe stronger. As an added benefit they were free to go to.
I took a seat at the bar. "Can I get some water please?" The bartender, who bore similarities to a rhino, slid a large container my way. I stopped it then took a swig out of it.
My thoughts went to the entrance exams. How there were people who possessed animal characteristics. Growing up in the time chamber, my fighting style had never been suited to battle non-human individuals. That is how his martial arts was so easily defeated by Hop. The robots fell apart easily because they were big hunks of metal that you didn't need a lot of combat knowledge to avoid.
If I was going to train to become better, I had to find somebody to help me train to get a better hold on that weakness. Maybe even get rid of it. I couldn't ask John. He was way too out of my league. Maybe he could ask him to tell him where he could find Hop. She would be the perfect sparring partner. Granted she didn't kill him.
Hell she was in this universe. She could be nearby. She could be…
All of a sudden a large scream came from one of the training areas as a humanoid possum came flying out the door and onto the floor. He had his teeth knocked out and looked like he had both his arms broken.
I wonder who did that to him. Then the door opened again revealing a familiar face. It caught me so off guard that I had to grab my mouth not to spit water.
Coming out of the training area, wrapped in bandages, was Hop. She looked to be pissed off and trudged past the possum. She took a seat two spots away from me. "Bartender, get me whatever can help these wounds faster." The rhino slid a small bottle of blue liquid that she picked up and drowned the whole thing in a second.
You know how I was going to ask for her to spar with me. That thought was removed from my brain at the sight of the unconscious possum. He wasn't afraid. Just not stupid.
Hop then caught a glimpse of me from the side. She looked without turning her head. "Didn't we meet at that tournament? Last time you were on your knees because I clawed you up."
I twitch at the memory of it. "Yeah that's going to leave a scar so I have you to thank for that." She huffed and put her feet on another bar stool. The rhino looked like he wanted to object to it but he, like me, was clearly not stupid.
"Well student of Dratten, you at least did better than the others. Granted you never touched me, but you didn't grab a hundred guys to fight for you."
"Is that why you're put in bandages right now?" immediately my senses told me to curl up and play dead at the menacing look she gave me.
"I was so close to winning too. But he had to wimp out and hide. Now I'm pissed." She then looked at me. Her brain looked to be hard at work. Then she slammed her hand on the table. "Get up, we are fighting".
My head turns to the possum who was currently getting medical attention. She followed my gaze. "That guy tried to hit on me. As long as you don't do the same we should be on good terms."
"OK, but why do you want to fight me? I mean don't get me wrong, this fight could help me improve but what would it do for you?"
Hop pointed at herself, "Didn't you hear me? I'm pissed! I need someone who I can beat the shit out of for a good while. As long as I don't use my claws you will make do."
Before I could respond she grabbed my arm and started dragging me to the training room. I could only think of one thing before I'm pulled into the room.
Fuck. This better not become a thing.
This chapter was way better and way longer than the previous two. It took me longer but I'm satisfied with it. If you have anything you want to add please do. I need all types of comments to improve.
