The little boy followed the escort to The Shadow Kingdom while keeping a safe distance. Once they crossed through the city gates they made their way to the castle. The little boy left his horse at a stable and continued following on foot. Finally, at the steps leading to the castle, Sir Azemar dismounts his horse. He helps Nadine while holding baby Kane dismount her horse.

The little boy hid in the shadows, near a parked hay wagon. He listened to Sir Azemar's men talk amongst themselves while their leader was attending to Nadine. "Why did King Theodre have us escort this servant and her child?" One knight said to another. "I heard King Theodre bedded her and that, that child is his bastard." A senior knight spoke while feeding his horse an apple.

"Yes, Sir Randoul, you are correct. But, it is also our sworn duty to our king that we take this secret to our graves. Understood?" The stern, booming voice was of Sir Azemar mounting his horse. He gave his men a serious glare. The rest of the knights crossed an arm across their chest and said in unison, "On our honor, we swear."

The little boy looked at the hushed-toned men in shock. 'How could, father do this to mother?' He furrowed his brow in disbelieve. He was about to turn to sneak back to his horse when he accidentally kicked a bucket of grain over. The knights looked towards the sound and were surprised at what they saw. "Prince Jareth? What in the Gods names are you doing here?" Sir Azemar scolded him as he dismounted his horse and charged over to him.

Jareth didn't know what to say. Sir Azemar scared him a little for his stern temperament. "I-I was just curious. Please don't tell my father." Jareth looked down afraid of being reprimanded. Sir Azemar sighed and placed his hand on Jareth's shoulder. "I promise not to tell King Theodre if you promise to never speak of this day. Understood, Your Highness?" Jareth looked up with appreciation. "I promise, Sir Azemar." Sir Azemar smiled and patted him on the head.

Then he made his way back to his horse and mounted it. "Best be getting back, now. Where did you leave your horse, Highness?" Jareth pointed to the stable near the city gates. Sir Azemar nodded and made his way there. Jareth followed on foot. Once he mounted his horse they made their way back to The Goblin Kingdom.

Sir Azemar knew King Theodre would be awaiting their arrival, so he told Jarerth to wait 30 minutes before he took his horse in the stable. Jareth nodded and waited in the city for the allotted time. While he waited Jareth thought of many different things. 'Did his father love the servant? If so would he visit her and the baby in secret? What will happen to the baby now? Will they raise him to be a good king like his father?'

Many years later:

"Did you hear, today is Prince Kane's coronation." A laundress spoke to another laundress while they folded linens. "Aye, I wish his parents were alive to see it. I only wish he would've grown to be kind and just like they were. Instead, we got stuck with a tyrant." The other servant scoffed.

"Yeah and a libertine, to boot." The two women laughed. An older woman walking by heard the scandalous conversation. "You two would be wise to shut yer' traps or else someone might get the wrong idea" she scolded the two women. Both spoke in unison, "Yes Mrs." Then they continued their work in silence. The lady's maid nodded and moved on to continue her duties.

The sound of breaking glass can be heard throughout the corridors. A tall handsome young man, with short disheveled blonde hair, a toned body, and jade green eyes, paced his room in anger. "So, you're telling me that, that bastard King Jareth expects me to pay him taxes for protection. Does he think my kingdom is insignificant compared to his? I am going to be crowned as king today and he decides to write this filth today?!"

Kane threw the letter from Jareth on the floor. "Please Kane, you need to calm down. It is courtesy for the smaller kingdoms to pay for their protection from The Goblin Kingdom. Your father presented these terms to King Aien and Queen Naesala as a sign of peace. So, logically King Jareth is continuing his support to you as the new king of The Shadow Kingdom." Kane sighed.

"First off mother, do not call that coward and pathetic man my father. He abandoned us, remember? Secondly, I am a force to be reckoned with, and Jareth should be thinking of protecting his poor excuse for a kingdom from me." Kane walked over to his mother and lifted her chin to look at him. "I promise to make them pay for how they discarded you like trash and kept my birth a secret like I was a disgrace." Nadine smiled at him sweetly.

"Kane, I loved your father very much and I think he did this for your own good. He knew if someone had found out of our affair and your birth, I would've been beheaded and they would've drowned you," she reached her hand to cup his face. Kane scoffed released her chin and turned his head away. "Believe what you wish mother, but I know he only did what he did to clear his own conscious and save himself humiliation."

He straightened up and walked towards the window. "No matter, I now have a chance at revenge. One day my time will come to bring Jareth's precious kingdom to ruin…." He relished at the thought. "Come mother, it's time for my coronation." Kane walked over to Nadine and held out his hand she smiled and placed her hand in his.

She said a silent prayer to herself, 'Theodre, I pray our son has a change of heart and becomes a good king. Please watch over him and guide him to the path of righteousness. For I fear he will be his own undoing.'

Hours later Kane makes a speech to his people as their new King. Unfortunately, he will go down in history as Kane the Sadistic Shadow King.

Over the next many years:

Kane tyrannized his kingdom, conquering neighboring kingdoms with his vicious army. He defiled any woman who caught his eye and then tossed them aside like trash.

Nadine took her own life when she realized her son was pure evil and would never see the wrong of his actions. She felt as if it were her fault, so she took a dagger and slit her throat hoping the Gods would forgive her. At her funeral, Kane only shook his head and muttered, "Stupid woman." Then he walked away, never shedding a tear. From that day his sadistic behavior only worsened.

Many years after that:

Kane heard the news of Jareth's wedding to the mortal girl he took in as his daughter 18 years prior. Kane knew this was his chance to strike. He knew Jareth wouldn't see him coming. That night Kane set his plan into motion by delving into the mortal's dreams. He watched in a crystal as she went to sleep. Then he smirked cruelly, "Sweet dreams, dear Ella. I will be seeing you very soon, love." Kane proceeded to laugh maliciously as Ella's dream played before him.
