A school for outsiders – Miratim

Note: Sorry I haven't updated in a while I've had a lot of schoolwork and mock exams for IGCSEs.

It is 1955 and a family called the Kensinger's moved to Zürich. This Family was made up of an English woman and a swiss male, they were the Kensingers. They moved to Zürich because that meant, that they were near Mr Tim Kensingers Family. The family lived in Zug. The Kensinger's compromised where they were living, to live in Zürich but visit Mrs Elisabeth Kensinger's Family every Christmas and Easter holiday.
After living like this for four years, Mrs Kensinger fell pregnant with a baby girl. This girl was born at the start of the year 1960. Her name: Keziah Kensinger. Every year they visited Keziah's English grandparents. One year something very unusual happened when Keziah was five and at Christmas in England. She made the cup of hot chocolate fly across the room. Everyone thought they were imagining it. (When Keziah did that accidental magic, it registered her in the magical book in Hogwarts.) They put it to the back of their heads and carried on with their lives. A special thing about the Kensingers is the fact that they were not religious and were mostly agnostic.
A few years later, at Easter, when Keziah was 11. A lady, named Pomona Sprout came by to explain the wizarding world to them. She explained that all magical English were registered in the magical book in Hogwarts.
"But I was born in Switzerland and why did it register me then?" Keziah asked.
Pomona explained: "Because your family is part English, you are registered in the book."
With that, they scheduled to meet in the summer with other muggle-borns. She would show them the magical world in more detail. Professor Sprout then apparated away with a pop!

It was a big surprise for the Kensingers because Keziah hadn't even finished primary school yet and already they were about to send her away to a boarding school in Scotland. The Family would now have to go through the trouble of going to the Gemeinde and explaining that they are sending Kailasa away. The other fact that was troubling them was the fact that the school was rather expensive. The school costs 1000 galleons to send to school for one year. That is about 25'000 CHF. Between the two parents though, they would be able to get the money together.

The excitement about finding out that she was a witch was overwhelming. Keziah couldn't wait for the summer. She was disappointed by the fact that she couldn't tell her friends. Though when they asked why she was going away, she explained it away as a school her grandmother visited. By the middle of July, even if she didn't need to care what she got in her Zeugnis. She still did very well. That summer she and her parent drove to England, going through France.

While in England she decided to read up on British history. Of course, she learned about the British involvement in the second world war as well as the first. But she wanted to know a bit more. She found something exciting. The fact women could vote in Britain amazed her. And the fact since 1918. Women in Switzerland hadn't been allowed to vote until last year and that was only on the national level. Most Kantons still didn't allow the vote.
Her English had also gotten better. She had been in England for only a month and already she could speak it more fluently than before. She had been learning at home and school since second grade. But this last month gave her a boost.
The culture was also a lot different here people were a lot more open to ideas. Her experience in England so far had given her, a completely different view, of how people behaved.

That week they said goodbye to her grandparents and headed for London. She would be meeting Professor Sprout again in just a few days. Then they would meet other muggle-borns and buy their school supplies.

On the 31st of July, Keziah Kensinger was ready at Kings cross with her mother, waiting for Professor Sprout. "Hello," Professor Sprout said as she saw the two people.
"Good morning" Keziah and her Mother replied.
"Today we are going to the Leaky Cauldron. That is where the entrance to Diagon Ally is and where we will meet with the other muggle-borns. Then we will get your supplies which you got a list too, in your letter." Professor sprout said.
So, they went to the leaky cauldron. There were 10 other muggle-borns there. There, Keziah met a girl called Lily Evans. She looked quite excited to be there. They talked for a bit and Keziah told Lily about growing up in Switzerland.
"Right, everyone, do I have your attention", Professor Sprout said in a very loud voice. "We are all going to go into the Leaky cauldron, first."
All the parents looked around not being able to see it, so the kids had to sort of drag their parents in. Within the pub, everyone looked at them weird, but Professor Sprout led on to what looked like a dead end. There she tapped onto the wall with her wand.
"Welcome to Diagon Ally!" Professor sprout proclaimed.
It was utterly amazing what Keziah saw. It was so full of life and just so magical. The first thing they did was go to Gringotts. There all the parents went into exchange money. After that, they headed to the bookstore. There they bought all their schoolbooks as well as parchment and quills. Another few things that were not on the book list, but Professor Sprout insisted on buying, were books on general magical history, the different houses of Hogwarts and their founders, and books on magical culture. Within the book about culture, there were different descriptions of how to dress and greet people. Professor Sprout said these were just, so we don't accidentally insult someone.
After getting books and parchment, Professor divided the group into boys and girls. There were 6 boys and 5 girls. The reason being, that one group would go get their uniforms and another would get their wands and then switch. That meant on the way Lily and Keziah could talk more.
They opened up the book about the houses and began to discuss while waiting for their turn in Ollivanders shop for wands. Lily expressed "Gryffindor looks like a good house to go to, they also represent bravery, nerve, courage and chivalry. Here it also says that the Great Albus Dumbledore goes to that house."
Whereas Keziah disagreed; "I think Hufflepuff looks like a good house. They represent kindness, fairness, loyalty and hard work. I think I want to go there. A big benefit as well is that that is Professor sprouts house."
"Although, I could go to Ravenclaw, as well. They represent intelligence, creativity, wit and Quick-thinking. ", replied Lily.
"Good thinking, I think, I could also go to Slytherin. They represent; cunningness, ambition, determination and cleverness." Keziah stated.
Just after finishing her sentence, it was Keziah's turn. She went into Ollivanders shop and he measured her right hand and arm. He then gave her first wand 10 inches unicorn hair with apple wood. Keziah flicked it and accidentally broke the lamp in the corner. The next wand didn't work either as it just broke the plant pot in the corner. The next five didn't work either, as they either broke thing or made things fall over.
At last, Ollivander said," This should work. You are a person harder to find a wand for, aren't you?"
"I guess," I replied.
He gave Keziah an Alder wood wand with a phoenix feather core, 10¾ inches and slightly springy flexibility. In the end, the wand worked and cost 7 Galleons, which was quite expensive and 175 pounds. Probably the most expensive thing that day. They went out of the shop and Lily didn't take nearly as long as she did. They then went to Madam Malkin's and got their uniforms. Afterwards, they went to the potions shop and got all they needed for potions. And they also got a school trunk and put everything in it, that way they didn't need that many bags. The last thing on their list was at Kings cross, where Professor Sprout would show them where the platform was.
