By the light of the moon
The moonlight cast long stretches of silver upon the forest floor, some bouncing off of the surrounding trees, others pooling amongst the debris of leaves on the ground. A multitude of things, of creatures, hid in the shadows, some rustling and some keeping very silent. But all of them watching as the huge black dog came bounding around the corner, a high pitched "yap!" echoing around the forest.
Following the dog came the wolf; huge and fierce, yet light on his paws as he galloped through the darkness after the dog. It was a game, a game of chase.
The dog zigzagged through the trees, bouncing over fallen branches, tearing this way and that until finally he reached the clearing where the moonlight cast a silvery glow over everything, so bright no wizard would have even needed his wand light.
As the dog came to a stop, panting heavily, he turned to face the wolf who was close on his tail. The huge animal stalked steadily closer to the dog, but paused and sniffed the air. There it was, that familiar scent. That scent the wolf knew meant safety, no threat, friend. He let out a soft growl and the dog barked twice in response before bounding over to lick the wolf on the snout. Now he was being brave.
The two of them circled one another, letting out a series of yaps and growls, before the wolf threw back his head, stared at the moon and let out an almighty howl.
Cocking his head to one side, the huge dog watched for a moment before he too, let out a long howl into the darkness.
As silence fell on the clearing once more, the two huge animals regarded one another, sniffing the air and pawing at the earth beneath them. Suddenly, the dog turned tail and ran once more through the dark trees, knowing the wolf would be following close behind him.
The game was beginning again.
