"Attention!" The navy-haired guy, the commander-in-chief of Kaen, blurted, "His Majesty of Kai Hiwatari, the honorable emperor of Kaen, is entering!"

Trumpets echoed in the courtroom larger than three football fields. From the golden chairs, the court members stood up to show honor to the king as the latter's feet, wearing black knee-length boots with golden buttons, fell on the red velvet carpet covering the marble floor of the chamber. Face was washed this time, yet, forehead was lidded with smoke-colored bangs. The white cape hanging round his toned neck slid against the soft runner. He was dressed in full-sleeved, black silk tunic designed with golden quatrefoils that ended an inch below his knees, showing the extension of his deep violet trousers. Wrists were confined in golden cuffs, ruby buttons and gold badges were attached to his torso. The crown was shaped like the head of a phoenix, its eyes made of fire opals, same went for the circlet.

Straightening his backbone, keeping his amethyst eyes forward which were looking at no one or nothing, he marched towards the phoenix-designed throne holding countless ignited candles, ascended the stairs and sat on it, wheeling and letting the edges of his white cap dance a bit. A pair of soldiers set fire on the stony lamp-stands by both sides of the royal seat as his face flashed with the flames, his aventurine pools being the brightest. Resting one arm on the handle and holding the regal pole in another, he raised it, ordering everyone to sit down. After it, the court members took their seats as he left his own, standing up.

"Good morning, honorable court members of Kaen," His thunderous voice echoed everywhere, "I hope you all are doing well."

"Everything is going good here," The prime minister informed, "Due to your keen observation as well as your immense kindness, your Majesty."

"Hn," Kai wasn't a bit flattered, "Before starting the assembly, I would like to thank Mariam Kinomiya, one of our shrewdest and bravest spies, for accomplishing her mission in Hiawatha successfully."

"It's my pleasure, your Majesty," The royal blue-haired woman bowed, "Destroying two woodlands wasn't a big deal."

Takao glared at his sister, gritting his teeth. He hailed from Kaen, the fire kingdom, but he was a nature lover. Hurting animals or plants was against his ideals. However, before it, he'd tried a lot to convince the king but each time, he'd failed. That's why, he could do nothing but heaving a sigh, turning his face away from the female blunette.

"Did you face any difficulty there?" Kai asked.

Mariam winced a bit at the question of the king, remembering her encounter with the blonde. He had been so soft but when he had raised his lance to protect his motherland, his actual strength had been witnessed by the blunette. Somehow trying to hide the red tints on her cheeks, the agent of Kaen replied, shaking her head, "No, your Majesty."

"Good to hear," Kai remarked, "But it doesn't mean that our mission has been over. Not only the resources, but we have to destroy the human assets of Hiawatha as well. For it, I have another weapon which will never miss her target. Takao!"

"Order, your Majesty." Placing his hand at the left side of his chest, he lowered his head.

"Call princess Salima."

When the name was uttered, far from the serious courtroom of Kaen, a pair of feet were gently, yet, swiftly trampling the fallen rose petals on the floor as their owner was running, the scarlet sepals blowing around her and blooming under her toes, getting a new life. Through a transparent, golden georgette curtain, she could be seen wafting her dense, blood-colored, soft long hair at the left like a thunderstorm. Pearly teeth flickered through her cherry lips; kohl-streaked ebony eyes twinkled. When the milk-complexioned maiden was sprinting through the lobbies while caressing the candles, getting touched by her fingers, automatically, they were being ignited. The fringe of her white gown skidded. Taking a platter of candles, she threw it up as all the flames rained on her. She spread her arms, swirling once. Astonishing it was, fire turns everything into ashes but she was playing with the fire itself.

"Salima…" The dual-haired girl panted, running behind her, "Calm down, dear."

"No, sister Julia!" She was amused, "You cannot catch me. Hahaha…."

Showing her a thumb, the redhead again started scurrying. Igniting all the halls, lobbies, dressed in gold and amethysts, finally, she halted before the courtroom as the guards kowtowed, separating their javelins from the cross. Everyone stood up from their chairs. Seeing her, a faint smile rose all over the stern face of the dual-haired emperor.

"Greetings, brother," She bowed, "I hope your assembly wasn't interrupted by me."

"Come in, Sal." He softly spoke.

Smiling and maintaining her composure, she entered the hall and stood in front of her brother, joining her hands, "Tell me, brother, what can I do for you?"

"Being present around me is enough, sister," He snickered, "Yet, you must know the reason behind your birth."

Salima nodded, recalling the moment when she had opened these eyes to the world for the first time. Yes, her birth hadn't been natural. There was a sacred place in her kingdom where the soil was ash-colored. It was supposed to be the birthplace of Dranzer, their clan Goddess as well as the protector spirit of Kaen. From the same clay, her figurine had been made and set into fire after uttering some chants, in the presence of the wise scholars and priests. Within no moment, the flames had spread throughout the body, filling each and every limb of her with color. When women had surrounded her with unfolded cloths to cover her dignity, she'd opened her ebony eyes, witnessing the beauty of the earth.

Dressed, she'd stood before Kai, bowing towards him. She could still remember how happy and satisfied he'd been on the occasion of her arrival that his bright smile had been glowing all over his face.

"You're the boon of lady Dranzer, so am I," She said, "Thus, you're my brother and I am your sister. Brother, by which name will you call me?"

"Fire-princess you are, yet, casting my eyes with peace," The dual-haired emperor announced, "Oh, the peaceful maiden! From now on, by me and everyone, you'll be called 'Salima'."

"I was born to destroy Hiawatha, thus, giving my motherland peace and harmony," She spoke with determination, "For my goal, I can do anything, brother. Just order me."

"In a kingdom, the ruler is considered to be the heart and the commander-in-chief is called the brain," Kai replied, "You have to damage the brain of Hiawatha, thus destroying it."

"Your orders will always be obeyed by me, brother," Salima assured the phoenix-prince, "But…may I know who the commander-in-chief of Hiawatha is?"

"Hmm…." Taking a sharp breath, Kai answered to the question of his sister, "Ray Kon."

The rows of skyscraping, ever-green mountains of Hiawatha were producing hundreds of fresh, white, fragrant streams of cataracts which found their ways to the depth of their cores. Under the different-sized highlands, a narrow creek was flowing like a serpent. It was slim; yet, long and bottomless. Rabbits, squirrels, deer used to come there to drink water, coming out from the bushes by both edges of the hilly river. The surface of the mounds was coated with green grass. Often, nameless pink and purple flowers used to bloom there. As a result, butterflies and bumblebees used to visit the piece of heaven too more often. Between these two queues of knolls, there was a hanging breeze, made of bamboos and ropes. A little feeble and wobbling it was; yet, being the only connector using which one could reach another edge.

A few children were carefully crossing the bridge, taking each step so cautiously that it couldn't break. The elder two reached the other end but the youngest of them lagged behind. Not because of she couldn't walk fast, but because she was viewing the divine beauty of nature around her. The more the pinks, purples and greens were dazzling her bubbly eyes, the more she was being overwhelmed, giggling and dropping her jaw now and then. Her siblings were irritated with her, a bit tensed too but she wasn't caring. Suddenly, seeing an orange butterfly with black dots scattered on its wings hovering over her head, she couldn't resist her temptation. Totally forgetting that she was on a hanging breeze which could be broken anytime, she leaped to catch it.

"No!" Her brother screamed out of horror, "Aiko!"

Too late it was. All the bamboos got displaced beneath the feet of the four-year old due to the sudden force as she landed on it, unable to catch the beautiful arthropod. Instead of the solid surface, her toes met the air. As she looked down, her heart reached her throat. She tried to hold something but only the vanity was grasped in her tiny fingers. She screamed; tears of fear filled her wide-open eyes-but nothing could prevent the action of gravitational acceleration. She was falling, within each second, her velocity was increasing. Even tossing her arms and legs desperately, the toddler couldn't get any support that could save her.

"Someone!" Her elder sister sobbed, "Please, save her!"

Listening to their pleadings by offering his ears to the nature, someone sprinted across the hills at the other edge and jumped in a savage vertical speed, getting mixed with one of the linear cascades so densely that the viewers were unable to differentiate between him and the chutes. Right before the fall of the girl, he dove in the water. Making a huge splash and taking no time, he rose from it as if the creek had been his best friend since the beginning of life. Droplets of water were clinging to his bronze-shaded, exposed, mesomorphic thorax, dripping down from his well-toned Adam's apple and diamond jawline. Charcoal bangs were clinging to his cheeks, thick, long extension was hugging his broad back and shoulders. Raising his brawny arms, he held the toddler, thus, preventing her fall. She was still shivering.

"Hey," His soft amber eyes sprinkled assurance and kindness on the unknown girl, "No need to be nervous. You'll be safe. Just ride my back, okay?"

Somehow nodding, she rode the drenched back of the man, tightly wrapping her tiny arms around his bullneck; legs encircling his ribs. Taking a sharp breath, the raven-haired young man carefully, yet, hurriedly swam towards the hill where the children were anxiously waiting for their sister. Clasping the rocky mounds, he carefully placed his feet in the safe niches, thus climbing the knoll. The hold of the girl around his neck was quite tight, he felt difficulties to breathe. Nonetheless, not stopping for a while, he climbed the towering hummock effortlessly like a Jaguar and reached its peak. As the toddler got down from his back, her siblings rushed towards her, enveloping her into a hug.

"Thank goodness!" The little boy huffed, "I thought we had lost you!"

"Thank you so much, Sir," The eldest sister bowed, "If you weren't here, we would surely lose Aiko."

"No problem, children," Ray patted the head of the four-year old, "Be careful from the next time, okay?"

"Sure."

Nodding, the children left the place, waving their hands at the raven-haired neko-jin. Watching their departure, he sighed, reminiscing his old, sweet days of the early stage of his youth. He always came to the same place for getting lost down the memory lanes; the best events of his life cherished with a certain pink-haired teenage girl before nine years. She had been his best friend, an affectionate lover and a cheerful lass. The eldest daughter of the earth she had been; loving, doting and a pure-hearted angel. Whenever he'd been tensed, she'd absorbed all of them and replaced his worries with her happiness. They both had loved each other madly. But fate, the cruel fate, didn't let them get together.

Flashback:

Spring it was, adorning Hiawatha, the water kingdom with varieties of flowers like a queen. The Sakura trees were the feathers and gems of her crowns, with the branches carrying countless pink and white cherry florets. Whenever the last gusts of the late winter wind used to flirt with them, they shook blushingly, showering all the love and affection on the evergreen earth of the empire of water, thus tinting them pink and white. It was a happy time for all the subjects; specially for the daughters of the earth. Mariah Wong, their leader and the symbol of daintiness, wasn't different. That's why, whenever the spring arrived, washing the coldness of winter, she used to keep standing before the rows of the cherry trees, watching the coral-white falling angels with her overwhelmed honey orbs.

"Shoosh!"

Out of nowhere, the cherry flowers metrically started raining on the girl with a single gust. Her face adopted a huge smile as she spread her arms, swirling, gazing above. Her untied magenta hair bounced on her waist; the pink fringe of her skirt wheeled. The tender sepals were brushing her tender skin, she took a deep breath and inhaled their divine perfume, filling her lungs with it. As she turned back, she stopped, viewing the presence of the raven-haired neko-jin who was simply grinning at her girly antiques, much to his amusement. His back was carrying a quiver of arrows, a hand was holding a bow. Mariah effortlessly realized why the Sakura flowers had decided to be crazy unexpectedly.

Holding the mischievous smirk, he gently walked towards her, amidst the shower of the Sakuras. She blushed deeper than the cherry flowers, yet, screwed her nose and eyebrows at him, "Coming here late, you think you can pacify me? No way, Kon."

"O, the queen of the nature," He flirtily spoke, expanding his arms, "I just went to bring your crown."

"Crown?" Mariah creased her brows, "Where's it? I cannot see it. You must be kidding with me once again, mustn't you, Ray?"

"Nope, not at all." Shaking his head, Ray turned back and whistled, seeming to call someone. Responding to him, within a few moments, a pair of house sparrows flew in the direction of the couple, flittering their tiny wings. In their claws, they were holding a wreath, made of emerald vines and petite white baby's breath flowers. They softly placed the floral crown around the forehead of the pinkette and sat on the Sakura twigs. Mariah was overwhelmed with this, not knowing how to react.

"Mariah," The jet-haired young man gently laid a hand on her cheek, "I don't know whether I can be a king in my life or not, but I promise, I'll always keep you in my heart, making my queen."

The soft amber eyes of the pink-haired girl started brimming with tears; cheeks got painted like her hair. Sniffing, she posed her head on his chest, wrapping her arms around him. He embraced her waist and head carefully, closing the eyes and the Sakura tree kept showering her blessings in the form of pink and white flowers on the lovely couple, on the junction where the ever-flowing cascade affectionately kissed on the lips of the ever-green, flower-studded meadow. She closed her eyes, her strawberry-flavored breaths were tasted by him. A bit young they might be; but, they knew how to love each other.

Flash forward:

The neko-jin sighed, lying down on the grassy plane and placing his head on one of his arms, keeping watching the sky as the rays of sunshine in the middle sky caressed the face of Ray, along with his eyes which were sparkling with tears. He didn't want to let them fall so easily; yet, he was unable to stop them. Without her, he, the chief-commander of Hiawatha, could never have thought about even breathing. Now, he was successfully alive though she was permanently absent in his life. No matter how much he cried, how desperately he begged, how much he searched only for a single glimpse of her, he knew it far well that he would never get her back. It was all for the sheer enmity and hatred between Kaen and Hiawatha.

Daughters of the earth were always considered to be the trustworthy friends and well-wishers of Hiawatha. For Kaen, they were enemies, as expected. However, the problem arose when Raul Fernandez, one of the princes of Kaen, had fallen in love with Mathilda, a daughter of the earth. Banished from his kingdom, instead of begging for the apology of his uncle and aunt, he'd fled away with her like a pigeon out of its cage. That had angered the former king and queen of Kaen more. Out of extreme vengeance and wrath, they'd attacked the land of the earth's daughters one day, only to murder Raul and Mathilda as a ritual of honor-killing, famous, respected and supported vastly in both Kaen and Hiawatha.

Receiving a letter, Ray had immediately reached the area, riding his own black horse. But already, it had become too late. He had found the other girls weeping, embracing one another and his pink rose…absent.

Flashback:

"Ladies…" He whispered, "What…happened?"

"We have been orphans!" One of the girls wailed, displaying his bleary bloodshot orbs, "Our…our leader…"

A cold current passed through the spine of the young prince of Hiawatha. Really, she couldn't be seen there whereas she would always remain with her sisters, not leaving them for a single moment-at least, not at nights. Gulping, he asked, "What…what has happened to Mariah?"

"You know, our sister, Mathilda loves Raul, the prince of Kaen," She somehow replied between the fits of tears, "She brought Raul here as he was banished from his kingdom. Suddenly, we got to know that the soldiers of Kaen are coming here to kill Mathilda and Raul…"

"Sister Mariah sent them away, to a safe place," Another continued as the former couldn't due to her tears, "The soldiers came and searched but couldn't find them. When sister Mariah was being interrogated, she kept saying that she didn't know anything about them. They whipped and thrashed her brutally, in…in front of our eyes but couldn't get a single piece of information about Mathilda and prince Raul. Failing, they abducted her and…."

"And…buried her alive under the ground of the sacred place of Kaen!" The third girl burst into tears, "Beneath the ash-colored soil!"

Ray's eyes went widened. What…what did he hear just then? His…his Mariah was no more! No, how could it happen? She'd promised him that she would always remain as his queen. Then…Ray couldn't think anything else. He just landed on his knees, leaving all the weight of his body.

"You know, Sir…" The first lady sobbed, heaving a painful sigh, "Before departing, Mariah was craving to have your glimpse once but the cruel soldiers of Kaen didn't let her do that. But…she told us to tell a few things to you!"

"The foolish soldiers of Kaen!" She blurted, smeared in her own blood at the different spots of her body and wearing ripped cloths, "Today, you are taking the chance of my weakness only because I'm the daughter of the earth, thinking that I'll be submissive like her! But don't forget, you illiterate-right under the earth, there remains fire! Hidden fire-which can melt everything in this world! The ever-fixed mountains also emit lava whenever they are underestimated! I'm departing like the earth today but someday, I'll return, being the fire! To purify your ill thoughts, to unite two kingdoms, to institute peace-I'll return, being the messenger of the peace-with a new avatar, with a new name! My end will be my beginning! This is the last message of Mariah Wong!"

The daughters of the earth were explaining the last message of Mariah to the neko-jin but a single word of them wasn't entering his ears. He gritted his teeth, trying to clutch the merciless ground. His eyeballs shivered along with his shoulders and heart which was pounding hard, not able to take the grief of losing the precious pinkette and his eternal queen, tears seeped on his cheeks. Shaking the atmosphere, he screeched, almost ripping his vocal cord:

"MARIAH!"

Flash forward:

Watching the white vapors passing through the blue ocean of vanity, he sighed. When Hiromi had known about the murder of Mariah, she had been so outraged that she had tricked her parents to wage a war against Kaen, only in order to avenge the poor, yet, pure soul. After it, in the bloodshed battle, a lot of fresh lives had been snatched away by the angel of death from both of the kingdoms. Stains of the crimson liquid of life had been clinging to the stony surface of mount Fuji for four months, yet, the serious mountain couldn't have been softened a bit. The emperor and empress of Kaen had been imprisoned and assassinated due to the wit of the chocolate-haired princess of Hiawatha as she had kept the phoenix-prince busy, challenging him in a sword duel.

'What's been the cost?' Ray asked himself, sighing, 'The murderers of Mariah were punished but…did my Mariah return to me after it? No, right? Then what was the cost of shedding so much blood in that war? Now, I'm the commander-in-chief of Hiawatha, I must be prepared for all the upcoming battles. But how many of them will be fought by me with my full determination, concentration and dedication? No no…what the hell am I thinking? If people know that a warrior like me is being emotional and thinking about only love, not wars, I will never be accepted by them. But…what should I do? What kind of dilemma is this?'

Sitting on her bed as two maids were making her wear the royal jewelries, the scarlet-haired girl was staring at the rectangular portrait, without any wink of her onyx orbs. There, the image of a raven-haired neko-jin was painted. Jet locks were flurrying in the air, deep amber orbs were gaping right at her. Skin was bronze-shaded, reminding her of the ashes of sandalwood. Lips held a slight smirk, belonging to pride, determination and victory. He was possessing a long sword, diagonally clutching it. Even having a glimpse of the painting was sending so many unknown jolts to her heart. He was her target but without any reason, she felt as if he'd been the one, targeting her since the beginning of her life.

"Kane Yamashita, the son of the wind," One of the maids brought the news, "Wants to enter your chamber."

When the name was heard by the redhead, her face went enlightened with joy and excitement as well as a pinch of relief. Standing up, she hurriedly wore the rest of the ornaments and ordered the maid, "Tell him to come in."

"As your wish, your Highness." The maid went away along with others, totally emptying the chamber of the princess of Kaen. After a few seconds, the familiar blunette entered her chamber; his brilliant azure orbs flickered at her. Salima's heart got filled with a strange kind of peace as she saw him. She bowed towards him, "Greetings, Sir Yamashita. I hope you didn't face any problem while coming here."

"No, princess, don't need to bow before me," Kane smilingly assured her, "I am your friend at this moment, not the leader of the sons of the wind."

"Yet, you're the person whom I can trust the most in this world, apart from brother Kai," She acknowledged as he had his seat, "My birth was not natural. I wasn't born but created due to the austerities by my brother and the supernatural powers of lady Dranzer. I was unfamiliar to the world. You taught me everything. If these hands can operate swords, pens, painting brushes, musical instruments, culinary instruments, bows and arrows with much skill and purity, it's only for you and your wife Amisia, Kane. I cannot describe in words how much I am thankful to you both."

"And what about you?" Kane crossed his arms on his chest, "Do you want to say that you didn't work hard for learning them so skillfully?"

"Duh, arguing with you means my defeat," Salima sighed, giving up, "Anyways, Kane, I'm going to accomplish a hard task. I need your blessings for that."

"Hard? For you?" Kane was amused, "May I know what you are going to do?"

"You're seeing that guy?" The redhead pointed at the portrait.

"This guy?" The blunette frowned, trying to remember something. Suddenly, his face lit up, "Ah, I do know him. Ray Kon, the commander-in-chief of Hiawatha, isn't he?"

"What can remain hidden from you in this world, Kane?" Salima praised, "Yes, it's he."

"But…he hails from the water kingdom, right?" The son of the wind raised a brow, "Why does the flame want to commit suicide by jumping in the cascade?"

"My attempts may seem suicidal to you, Kane," The face of the redhead went stiff, "But, actually, these flames want to turn the cascade into vapor, thus, removing his existence from the world."

"Turning water into vapor doesn't erase the existence of the water, dear," Kane smirked, "Rather, it energizes the water. Whenever the vapor gets chance, it showers on the world, being rain; with double amount of fierceness."

"Sometimes, I cannot understand the meaning of your words, Kane," Salima huffed, "Anyways, bless me so that I can fulfill the order of my brother, thus fulfilling his goal."

"I'll always keep supporting you, Sal," Kane gently smiled, placing his hands on her shoulders, "My blessings will always be with you. May you be successful in fulfilling your goal, Sal."

"Are her goal and my goal different from each other?"

Before Salima could utter anything, the king of Kaen who had been standing there and listening to their conversation asked the question out of nowhere. Without the permission of anyone, he entered the chamber of his sister. Clearing his throat, Kane bowed towards him but the phoenix-prince raised a hand. Looking at Salima, he softly asked, "Sister, may you leave us both alone for a while?"

"Sure, brother." Nodding, she left the chamber.

"So, Kane Yamashita, the son of the wind," He folded his arms on his chest and faced the blunette, "What were you putting in the brain of my sister?"

"Just reminding her of her goal," Kane calmly replied, "To institute peace in Kaen, your Majesty."

"She knows far well about her goal, better than you," Kai simpered, "You don't need to eat her brain."

"I'm eating her brain? I?" The blunette grimaced, "Pathetic, your Majesty! You are poisoning her pure heart for your own selfish motive and accusing me for that?"

"Shut up, Yamashita!" Kai's voice was deadly, "Isn't your heart trembling a bit that you are questioning my goals standing on the floor of my own castle?"

"Your goals are only to destroy Hiawatha, instituting peace is only a pseudonym of that," Kane's tone was blunt, "Kane Yamashita's heart never trembles when he speaks a truth."

"Only you're one of the sons of the wind, that's why I'm letting you go," Kai pointed his finger at the open door of the room of his sister, seething violently, "Otherwise, your ashes would remain here. Now get lost! Don't dare meet my sister once again!"

"Fine," Kane exhaled, "I'm leaving for today. But…don't blame yourself if you lose someone dear to you in this hateful, sinful game of wars and revenge!"

Gritting his teeth, yet, not showing it to the world that he'd been insulted, the azure-haired guy left the chamber, wheeling back. Not even facing him, not even fearing his warning, the dual-haired emperor gnawed his jaw, recalling his dead parents and the sword fight between him and the chocolate-haired princess of Hiawatha before nine years which had been nothing but a trap to kill his parents. Her laughter rang in his ears, giving him a headache. Clasping his head, he slumped on a chair.

'Hiromi Tachibana, the arrogant empress of Hiawatha….' Hot carbon-di-oxide came out through his nostrils, 'Soon, your body ashes will be my bodywash…very soon…'

Done! So how was it? This story has a hidden thing, I've done a stupid thing here. Thinking deeply a bit, you can get the point. Whenever you unearth the mystery hidden here, don't forget to burst out laughter, okay?
